FINALLY! An actual good demonstration video !! I love that you said, ‘Don’t cry about it, fix it and move on with your life’ 😂😂 I need to remember that because I’m definitely a stresser and cry over everything when I decorate with fondant 😂😂 saving this vid for later!
amazing demonstration liz! i am still baking my cake praying its going to turn out right and once done i will will follow this fondant video since i just bought fondant today. your amazing and a perfetionist. thanks a lot
Thanks Liz... I'm doing my first ganached cake next week... Perfect timing 👍🏼 also wanted to say thanks for periscope series on getting started with a cake business. Especially the bit about logo design. My husband is a graphic designer and had told me the exact same thing about keeping it simple. Well, I listened to him after watching your periscope and now he is less annoyed with me constantly wanting to tweak my design!! Haha.
The upside down bowl is genius. I wish I’d watched your video last night when I was struggling with the bottom of the cake instead of waking up this morning and seeing how terrible it looks!! I’ll use this in the future. I always hide the mess at the bottom with some kind of thin band or decorations but this one is for someone else and had to copy a picture. I have no idea what I’m going to do to fix it!
Fondant cakes was all I ever knew growing up in the UK. So when I moved to America, I was surprised that birthday cakes typically come covered in cream and not fondant. I had to go to a wedding cake shop just to order fondant cakes for birthdays. Now I can make my own fondant birthday cakes at home.
Great video, very helpful. Idk what lmf is, assuming it's the brand or type of fondant? Also, was that crisco you had in that little bowl that you used to work into the fondant? I'm like, brand new to fondant, been cooking about 22 years and just getting into baking. It's a fun and wildly expansive field of culinary art and I have nothing but respect for you and others who have the talent for it.
'LMF' was the acronym given to her fondant by the community after it became popular with bakers. L and M are her initials and F is, of course, fondant.
you make it look so easy. i always have problems with the bottom. i always get pleads. i will try using the small bowl next time. Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Hello, I tried to make a cake using fondant yesterday, that was my first time, but why is the fondant that I use melting fast, can you give tricks and tips so that the fondant doesn't fall quickly?
Great job. I want to make fondant but can't find some of the ingredients needed here in Munich Germany. Looking for glucose I ended up getting Truben zuger .can someone help me out please.
Thank you for the visual demonstration. Im taking up cooking because my middle boy wants to become a chef and he choose pastry chef. My taste buds love it but my brain has no clue whats it is in for
Thanks so much for this. I make a lot of cakes at work and my new chief wants to start using fondant on some of the more important cakes so this was a huge help.
hi liz, thanks for sharing... I will be using buttercream under my fondant, should I chill my cake before I cover it? our climate is warm at the minute. thanks
killercake90 freeze it for about 10-15 min-- just long enough for the outside to freeze. If the cake freezes all the way through, it will definitely sweat.
I love your videos! I am having problems with the fondant however. It is getting very sticky and sweaty after I apply to the cake... I can't even touch it with out it turning into goo. How can I fix this? What am I doing wrong :.....(
Hi Liz I have 2 crumb and final buttercreamed cakes that I froze and need to apply fondant today. Should I thaw first or go ahead and cover frozen. Thank you for your videos
I tried to cover a cold Cake in fondant. The fondant was really sticky and started to tear. Was I supposed to use tylose in the fondant before covering the cake?
Hi, just want to ask, your butter cream was chilled before covering w/ fondant. After covering it, does your fondant sweat because of the cold? what do you do if your fondant sweats?
I'm pretty new at fondant. Only covered a handful of cakes with it. I have wondered what to do with the dirty fondant offcuts. Perhaps because I'm new at it, I often end up with a not-insignificant amount of waste.
+Matthew Ryan There shouldnt be any waste. If you are crumb coating your cakes and then covering with buttercream before you cover with fondant there should only be maybe a little buttercream on a small part which can be kneaded into the fondant and will not affect it.
I tried the chilling cake thing then put fondant on and it sweats gets sticky and start to have little holes in it.I never do it again.I just frost the cake and cover in fondant.does your cake sweats?
