    Great video very informative if not a little rushed but better than spending half hour on just one venue!!
    Really enjoyed it, given me a good insight as to where to head in my trip over next May 👍

    I arrived in 2009, same year this video was made. I'm having a hard time watching it while realizing what has happened to just about all of this since the beginning of the pandemic and the riots, not to mention everything that has happened since. When I moved here, it was a beautiful city and everything he's talking about here. It's so sad to know that what he's talking about no longer exists.

      *Stefan Alexander* not so awesome if you work downtown and want to catch a quick bas to lunch and back to work. . .That was the whole reason of making the busses free in downtown to begin with. . . and it worked great until carpetbaggers moved in and fucked everything up. . .

    You don't have to take a cab to West Seattle. There's a water taxi from Pier 50 downtown, which is at Yesler Way and Alaskan Way. Just make sure you get on a boat going to West Seattle and not to Vashon Island!

    Part (1) Here is my opinion of Seattle. I could not wait to move there. Did so in 2013 for 5 months. Pros: Different type culture from the east coast. Excellent economy in the Seattle area. Good bar and nightclub scene. Several community colleges and University options. 30 miles + outside Seattle feels calm and laidback and essentially the countryside. Cons: Different culture from the east coast. People are not as genuine. Many are quite phony and fake. Drug culture is widespread. A large % of weird people in the general population. Homeless people everywhere!! Seattle is not a beautiful city, although the backdrop of mountains and water front areas, does add beauty to the city look. You are more likely to make friends with people that are not from Seattle, than those from Seattle.

    • @bitchpuhleese
      @bitchpuhleese 10 років тому +1

      People are phony everywhere. Yes have heard it's "hard" to make friends, but where I live people are pretty phony too, and I live on the east coast Raleighweird. Talk about boring and pretentious.

      Yup. Two years later. My girlfriend was knocked down by a bum in Pioneer Square. Wish I had been there to give this worthlessness a piece of my mind. There is no more just hanging out downtown like it was in the 70s and 80s. Watch out where you walk or sit. What a change it is.

    Having lived here for about 18 months, I'll say it is worth it. Hard to explain why unless you spend some time here. It's the most gorgeous place, for one thing, and all the neighborhoods are great for various reasons. It's also a very healthy city (one of the best cities for people with respiratory issues, some of the best cancer/cardiovascular/burn care in the US), a very temperate climate. If you're a liberal-minded hippie at heart, this is definitely the place for you.

    Some of the South Lake Union area, especially the brown building at 5:24 was shown a little bit in Sleepless in Seattle. The thing I like about Seattle is that there is no set central "downtown area". No matter where you live there is a downtown area to make you feel like you're still in the city. There's something to do everywhere and at any time pretty much. If you are single and middle-aged, you should have no problem trying to find someone, unlike most other cities.

    This video made me miss living near Seattle. I lived in Kenmore at the north end of Lake Washington for 30 years. Although I spent most of my time in Everett. I now live in the Texas panhandle. It's alright but I miss the North West. In spite of the rain. I do not miss the cost of living up there. Minimum wage in Washington when I left was 10.50hr. Minimum wage in Texas as of 2017 is 7.25hr. Gasoline up there was around 3.60g. Here its about 2.20g. You can get a 2or3 bed 1or2 bath house in fair condition for less than 50,000 down here. In the surrounding areas of Seattle you will not find a comparable home for less than 230,000. So much cheaper to live down here. But, Seattle will always feel familiar to me.

    I miss Washington State already. I flew up there last month and visited some friends in Port Angeles, beautiful country indeed, was lucky enough to see it with the sun shining and clear skies, but I don't mind the overcast and rain at all. It was welcoming, compared to the Texas heat, humidity, and insane brightness that of which I am acclimatized to.

      +LivingMindfully1975 None. LMAO! It's tough as nails. Just go to Hawaii, cause Washington is a travel state, not a destination you should actually want to live. You should come here for work, because it's definitely not at the top of the charts, for greatest places to be. Unless you like being cold, lack of truly amazing detail, and not much to do but watch or look at from a distance. Then this would be good. I'm more hands on. So I belong in another city, with more nature, detail, and openness. Washington seems so business oriented, and if relaxing is your thing. It's definitely not the to go place for that, or to spend time taking things in. In my books. Washington is a place like many, with not much different than what you can find more rare elsewhere.

    I've now been in Fayetteville NC for three months and thus far its a nice place.But I still wonder what it would be like to live near the Seattle area. Here in NC, the cost of living is reasonable.A nice new apt cost about $570,utility bill $90,cable tv $125.This is a place that allows for the little extras due to low cost of living.I'm from New Jersey and living there was the opposite.I wonder if seattle so expensive that most people have to work in order to stay even, instead of progressing?

  • @FASSY524

    Shopping district? Its called WESTLAKE CENTER aka Downtown Seattle! And the area he went to that he called Queen Anne, wasn't even Queen Anne, it was still Seattle Center. Queen Anne is up the big hill behind him in the beginning of the video. They don't make a real video about Seattle. Maybe I'll make one that both natives and visitors can agree with. He left out Columbia City and Seward Park.

    Haha! So not true. Yes there is a lot of sun, but that doesn't make Seattle miserable. London England rains probably rains 10 times as much as Seattle. Today for instance was absolutely beautiful. Blue sky, no clouds and SUN! People, don't read this comment, its false! The weather here is actually quite enjoyable. Not too hot, not too cold! Perfect! I move from Orlando Fl to Fayetteville North Carolina and it is an improvement.Florida has many downsides.North Carolina has better quality of life and amazing scenery and the friendliest people. Lived a lot of places and Seattle might be the only place in America to rival the quality found here in NC. Reasonable cost of living,safe place for children to participate in the community,and ability to afford a beautiful home for less than $250K.North Carolina is tough to beat!

    I'm in a similar position.Trying to decide if Seattle is the right place to call home.I'm in Fayetteville NC.LOL. Recently moved from Orlando FL. North Carolina is an improvement but too early yet to tell if I want to call it home. Friendly people here but man is this place COUNTRY!! I'm looking for a balance of living in the burbs about 20 milies from a real city. I like down home people but some where near a city.Maybe that is too much to ask for.I hope seattle offers something great.

    I'll take the long commutes in Seattle any day.I've never been there but on paper it does seem to tick the boxes on my wish list.Progressive politics,four seasons,ethnic diversity,decent night life,comunity feeling. Seem like a winner, just have to spend some time there and figure out what area works best.Trying to find that one place where I want to call home for many years.I'll know after living there with-in one month's time. Avery, are people friendly? You ever miss living in Minnesota?

    40+ minutes to drive 25 minutes distance is par for the course during my time living in north new jersey.Any where near NYC is that way.It's gets worse in winter when there is two feet of snow on the roads and the tempts are around 5 degrees.Sadly, its even worse here in Orlando FL because the multiplying population is growing faster that the infrastructure.No wonder there are not enough jobs to go around here.Florida is not the place to live.Too many right wing nut cases.

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    And that $500K house will not be in Seattle.More likely in Renton or Bothel. To be in Seattle with the similar house to my north carolina comparison,about $750K. You get a lot of house in North Carolina and it would be brand new!. I hear Sammamash is very nice.I really like being out from the city but with in a 25 minute drive to Seattle.That would be idea.Kinda like when I lived in New Jersey but stayed 25 minutes outside New York city. Btw,are there Bears running around the seattle area?

  • @nyanbinary1717
    @nyanbinary1717 12 років тому

    I moved from Minneapolis. The cost of living is high in Seattle, I don't deny that. Utility prices actually aren't that bad. I can't really speak accurately to food prices because I buy at the local organic co-op, but the rent is higher than most places. The economy is relatively stable, though, and the pay is compensatory to the cost of living. (WA has the highest minimum wage in the country and other jobs seem to be scaled accordingly.) In your field it shouldn't be hard to find a stable job.

  • @RoughRider757

    Can I ask what part of the country did you move from? I'm in the process of moving from Orlando to Raleigh NC. Looking for a place which is progressive and has medium cost of living and a fun night life. Not many places to choose from with those qualities. I wonder how good is the economy in Seattle? I thinking about moving to Seattle after getting my respiratory therapist degree. Avery, have you found the apartment,ultility and food prices very high in seattle? How are the nightclubs?

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    Imo Washington State offers broader life style choices.Progressive politics and way of thinking in general. Far fewer Tea Baggers and people that want to use government to tell society what is moral.Someone has told me that crime can be kinda bad in Washington State.Car theft and violent crimes might be higher in Wa. I wonder if there is a REAL community feel to the seattle area? NC is still a state where respectful behavior is important.If in trouble someone would stop to help you on the road.

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    Thanks Josh. Really is not an easy decision in front of me.Would love to begin a new start in the Seattle area.The idea that home prices have gone down considerably presents a big opportunity. Hard to believe $450K can buy a very nice home in the outter Seattle area.That will not last past 2014.Prices will start to increase.The counter arguement for moving to Washington is the higher over all cost of living compared to north carolina.

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    Seattle would be a choice based on pace of life,dating opportunities, life style,FUN FUN FUN.I'm from New Jersey and miss living near a big city(NYC) so I know Seattle offers a lot of entertainment.I know the scenic beauty of Washington state,just like north carolina,would be wonderful to experience on a daily basis.But at the end of the day it comes down to practicality.I wonder if the economy in Washington state is better than North Carolina's economy? I wonder if there are many jobs in Wa?

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    A nice apartment in Orlando area is about $950 for a 2bd,2bth.That comes with clubhouse,workout rooms,multi-pools,gated newish interior,exterior.Washer,dryer in apartments.Basicly a luxury place. Same apartment with similar or better amenities in North Carolina(Raleigh or Asheville) is about $700 per month.Same apartment in Bothel,Sammamish or similar outter areas near seattle seem to be about $1300 per month for same amenities .Don't want to live in shabby apartment and pay $800.

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    Not easy.A decision to move clear across the country has to be very thoughtful.I'm in the process of deciding between North Carolina vs Washington state. Because of the high cost of living in Seattle area, I might have to move to a very good second choice visa vee NC, to complete my college degree then a few years later consider a move to seattle.Cost of living here in Orlando is not cheap.At least 20% more expensive than NC. Seattle is about 20% more expensive than Orlando.

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    I wonder if Seattle is a great on paper but bad in reality kind of place? I would like to buy a house one day and buy a nice newer type home.I wonder if the cost of living in seattle is so high that people are living in little older places and in mostly condos or townhouses? Out of control cost of living is why I left northern New jersey.Don't want to live on top of other people like you see in the big metro cities of nyc and northern nj.Is an affordable life style in the outter seattle area?

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    Where ever I relocate options should be added and not substracted.Wa state is probably as scenic and beautiful as North Carolina but more progressive.Only Asheville can be compared to the politics of Washington state.Would love to give seattle a go, but not sure if the place is worth the extra cost of living. Miamibeach is beautiful and way fun but after being there for a couple months u learn its dirty wild over priced and many of the people there are discusting.Wonder if seattle is the same?

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    Seattle on the other hand would be a complete fresh start.Don't know anyone there which is a plus and on paper the place would seem to be idea! Progressive politics open minded people inclusive attitude toward all ethnicities.The home of Jimmy Hendrix.Need I say more!!! The down side is the cost of living.Gas is probably as high as in california.Apartments are like paying a home mortgage.And could I ever hope to own a home in Wa state. That is another reason why I left NJ.

  • @RoughRider757
    @RoughRider757 12 років тому

    That is expensive! I'm use to the southeast prices.High cost of living is one of the reasons why I left new jersey.Need figure out if the seattle option is doable especially for a person of modest means. Have narrowed down my top picks to two places.Seattle Wa and Asheville North Carolina.NC is much cheaper to live.Asheville is Hippieville which I love.Like a slice of California placed up in the BlueRidge Mountains.Raves,Art Galleries and dinner Clubs w/ live music bands.................

    Rambling
    I'm from new jersey been in orlando florida last 4 years. I miss having a real city(NYC) nearby while being able to live on the outskirts in the country. Are you from seattle, and is living near the place worth the extra cost? I want to go for this but don't want to end up in a flop house.$600 rents a VERY nice place in any state from Virginia to Florida. I just thats true in the Edmunds, Lynnwood areas.Are there colleges,jobs in that area? Thanks

    Thanks rambling
    I sense my experience in the seattle area is going to be a bit of a shock, especially compared to what is expected here on the south east coast. The wages are not high here in florida unless you have a degree but the cost of living in florida is higher than the wages can keep up with.Plces like North Carolina is a far better deal, wages vs cost of living.I want to live near seattle if doable but I don't want to stay in a horrible part of town.Edmunds sounds interesting.

    Thanks tjsallah for resonding. So $700 might get a nice 1bed-1bth apartment in renton or burien? Would I need a car to live that far away from seattle or is mass transit very good? I just want clean,safe, & place to park a car if I need one. Currently in college in florida but really don't like the southeast,too hot,bad economy. I hear that wages are good in seattle for entry level jobs.$12 an hour is possible for security guard or similar work? Are there jobs in seattle area?

    Need some advice about seattle.Currently living in orlando florida.Grown tired of the year long hot weather,high crime rate,and lack of night time entertainment,only theme parks here.Economy is also horrible.Plus', are low rent for very nice apartment,$650 for 1bd-1bth in gated new luxury complex with several swimming pools,with work out rooms.Want to find a similar nice place 20-25 minutes near seattle,low crime rate,dinner clubs,friendly open people.Is this doable for less than $700 mth?

    Dated Video - No More Free Bus Rides in Downtown District, which is indicative of some of the countries WORST Public Transportation or lack there of in the greater Seattle area. Tacoma is much more user friendly, as is the big nemesis to Seattle 2 1/2 hours down the Interstate - Portland, Oregon. There's a reason Portlandia is such a huge success! Haha.

    You missed, renton, georgetown, columbia city, leschi, wallingford, greenlake, north seattle, burien, tukwila, kent, federal way, bellevue, tacoma, issaquah, bremerton, kingston..the NW is so growing..it is the most diverse amazing place to live. I AM in the BAY area..and it is dirty, poor, stink and full of bullshit. SEATTLE HERE I COME.

    The rent in Everett and Lynnwood is 730 - 950 those are regular apartments, nothing nice. It's about the same prices in Seattle neighborhoods but if you want all that it would be somewhere around 800 for a one bedroom

    I love this video as it shows different-neighborhoods in Seattle as I am thinking about moving there one-day.
    I love Southern-Oregon but I have made a vow that I am not living here for the rest of my life as it doesn't leave you with much to do as I have learned from living in Ashland, Oregon specifically for about 11 years now.
