Always loved The Levellers. It's a funny old world isn't it -- years later I discovered they were formed at the same Elephant Fayre in St Germans as we were. That was a special - absolutely lawless festival at a very special point in time - and our band has been together ever since. It was a life changing few days.
Man I love this band so much. Boatman always chokes me up. Such beautiful words and so incredibly relative to so many people, I for one wish I was able to live the life I please!
Great stuff .We were lucky we got to see the Levs at Port Talbot this year just before lockdown .Got tickets to see them in Berlin next year Cant wait already . Never tire of watching them .
Thanks so much for putting this up - I can't believe I'm watching this concert FOR FREE - would have gladly paid a tenner for the DVD lol. One of my favourite bands and partly influential in my political outlook too. Great stuff.
This must be the most un-animated crowd at Leve's Gig I've ever seen. I'm more use to them nearly bringing the house down, the crowd and myself get so worked up.
Seen the Levs dozens of times up to an including the third album; after that sort of lost touch with them....best night was when Chumbawamba supported them (before they released that dreaded tubthumping).
Oh my goodness. That crowd! I am shocked, well done guys for carrying on, must have been very disheartening with a crowd like that. Absolutely no feedback and hardly any movement! The Levellers live set is not made for tents. AT ALL, I think the band did amazingly well with that crowd and the poor venue given. Much love to the Levellers, AMAZING band.
Straddling the knife edge between some kind of warped folk and country punk is a sticky wicket, but the Levellers pull it off well and have a wide fan base. Crowd pleasers.
Sadly, a Pale Shadow of the Brilliant and Powerful Band they used to be, but there again we are all getting older, and I suppose its great to see this Band nowdays.......
I think it's the mix on the video - it's all kinds of weird; they sound much more solid and heavy in real life. Plus, I'm pretty sure Mark's not in great health here - he's in much better form today, thankfully.
No chance of a mosh pit with this crowd!? One of the best bands in my opinion and their all stood there like there watching Susan Boyle! unlike Boomtown.
I agree I also suspose age has a factor to play in it too I suspose they can't keep leaping up and down the stage like lunatics with out feeling it these days can't wait for levelling land tour this year I'm going to Brixton Portsmouth and Bournemouth oh and mark Chadwick solo at talking heads in Southampton that's dedication to a cause!!
Love love Levs seem them over fifty times first was Brixton levelling land tour they still put on a good gig but they seem to play the songs more slowly these days don't seem as energetic as I remember
Yes, totally agree with both comments above. Seen The Levs many times in the 90's, and they were just BRILLIANT.....Sadly, time has caught up with them now, and they are a pale shadow of that massive bundle of energy that they once were......
@@n13roy You obviously havent seen them at the gigs I have ,still seem enthusiastic as ever , mind you the audience at this gig enough to drag any band down
@@SteveC010 .. I have seen the Levellers Live MANY times over the Years mate, going back to the early 90's...and they are / were a stunning powerful Live Band. This was NOT one of those nights. But I do agree the Audience were pretty boring on this show......
yes I must agree , they are one of the best live bands around ! you always walk out of their gigs , sing their songs with other members of the audience ! ritchie .
Bri, maybe not as energetic but they do play too many of their songs, especially the ltl material faster than they did in the 90s as the 2011 album tour proved. Good thing or not is down to personal opinion. Be interesting to see how they might it up with this year's tour.
How is it possible to actually stand still when they play beautiful day..? Even if the beat in your head is The Beastie boys, Paula Abdul, Beethoven, or even some nursery rhyme.. Music has been castrated.
Shrewsbury's funny like that. I've been a couple of times and there's nowhere near enough bouncing about for my liking. I'll usually be down the front bopping about... but so many people stay sitting. Don't understand how they can!
Shame the crowd are so awful. I’d expect better of Folkies. Puts me off wanting to go to Shrewsbury Folk Festival. Hard for the Levs to get up for a gig like that I guess. They are so much better than this at their own gigs.
Going to see them this month in Glasgow, goodness I hope Mark doesn't sing like that. I hope it was more to do with the technicians and the setup as well as acoustics, but this sounds bloody awful.
Great !! .. But not the best. Chadwick mate, you need to stop with that silly sounding American accent twist you seem to be putting on in the set. I know you want to do it a little new to keep it fresh and fit in with the younger peeps.. But it was hurting my ears a little.. lol .. Still love the Levellers and always will. Cheers
Its not so much the affectations its the lack of passion. personally I think he's probably knackered. And I mean that in a very general way. If he can't be that assed why should we?
Cheers Chadwick, way to go, dismiss our folk music traditions by trite remarks, none of it exists as far as you are concerned then? What a bloody insulting and outrageous remark.
Abiezer Coppe Well, how do you define "folk" music? Folk music, as it is known today, is the descendent of the traditional sound of Irish/British music. Music of the mass population, of the people (ie, "folk"), rather than of the higher classes (or "classical" music, as it is called today), but from a very specific musical tradition. "Folk", as a term to describe music, has become rather restrictive (or prescriptive), but taking the real basic meaning of the original term, jazz, blues, rock and roll, and punk are all variants of the "folk" music tradition. They are all music of the common people. And each national culture around the world has it's own musical heritage, which can be accurately described as "folk"...
imbecilik Sorry to be curt on this, but, seriously, to get an answer, read a book on folk music. One of Bert Lloyd's books on English folk music would be a good start. There are plenty of others too. We could argue the toss here, but the point is that these folk traditions do exist and can be recognised. As Bert himself once commented (and I paraphrase), the edges of the definition of folk music may be blurred and grey, but like the border between night and day they do exist and can be recognised. Folk musicians and folk music is under constant pressure from mainstream pop and commercial "culture", pressure to conform and not do our own thing, pressure to be "like everyone else", stop being so weird, turn up the beat and the drums etc etc., be this that or the other ... I don't apologise for being defensive when people openly dismiss my musical traditions.
Abiezer Coppe Nobody dismissed anything. This is the Levellers, who openly present the British folk music traditions that influenced them. Although, you did seem to dismiss my comment and point of view. Folk music traditions are not owned by one group of people, playing one type of music. Music is an organic beast, and evolves with the social situation. The defining point is that its origins are with the common *people*. Unless you can accept that, then you clearly don't understand folk traditions as well as you think you do.

Great players, great songs and sounds..! - if you get a chance to see them live don't miss it....!!
I was there dancing my socks off outside with my dog a lady I had just met and her dog. We were very appreciative 😍
Man I love this band so much. Boatman always chokes me up. Such beautiful words and so incredibly relative to so many people, I for one wish I was able to live the life I please!
You can, you just need to overcome your fear, you only get one spin on this crazy merry go round, make the most of it
An absolutely brilliant band. Insanely talented. Can't wait to catch them in Ireland if they come over again.
les levellers quel vent de liberté toujours dans l'esprit folk music. Merci pour l'energie Traveller
Love this Band , Pure Energy, Thanks for posting!! Happy 2022 to everyone.,,. Love and hugs! :D
Long Live The Levellers ✌🏼🎶❤️
Remember being there, down at the front. Fantastic. Can’t wait to see you guys again.
Love the Levellers first saw them in 1998 at the age of 8! Lost count of how many times I've seen them since! See you in Brum!
Ohhh yes credit to the nation was listening to them today I think they reformed a couple years back great unforgettable band
Same here! Saw them in Hereford at age 7 in 1998 I remember dad threw me up on his shoulders and started jumping around lol
tout petit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just amazing, watching this during Covid lockdown and has made me miss live music so much!
Off to Rock City to see them in Dec, first gig in two years ;-))
Saw them in Bristol the other day and they killed it
Great show! - I saw the Levs play the same set at Folk by the Oak - went down a storm...!
Surely one of the "least appreciative" audiences they've had in recent years .
Loved Mark's comments at the start
saw the levellers at brixton recently and it was frigging awesome levelling the land 25th anniversary all I can say is thanks for brilliant night
Wonderful band and brilliant video mix! Wish I could have been there . Thanks from al lonely self isolated sound mixer.
THE LEVELLERS FOREVER !!!!
If you were at that festival -literally how would you top this 😮😮❤
You just couldn’t 🎉
Glad to hear they till play songs off the levellers album. Saw them when levelling the land came out. Have to see them to fully appreciate them
Great stuff .We were lucky we got to see the Levs at Port Talbot this year just before lockdown .Got tickets to see them in Berlin next year Cant wait already . Never tire of watching them .

Awesome! Inspiring stuff! Love the Levs!
You think this was an awesome gig?
Pat Kelly i wish I could have been there
Fair enough. The band were great but Mark was bloody awful.
He does try, its kinda hard when crowd flat.
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing!
Best band ever.

Fab gig nevertheless. Hope they return to #shrewsburyfolkfestival soon 🤞
After a 6 month review.. I concur .. let's dance 🙂
I love your music its the best
So good
And when Seth joins in at the end - brilliant
Proper old school love it
If anyone can tell me where my old friend John O'loughlin is I would be very grateful. Patrick from Ghent.
Seen the Levs dozens of times up to an including the third album; after that sort of lost touch with them....best night was when Chumbawamba supported them (before they released that dreaded tubthumping).
was there ..and yep wamba wammed off my radar then ..but levs ..boooom

Much love to the Levellers, AMAZING band.
hi i agree they seem better in smaller venues
Going through the motions
It’s insane to think that I was in that crowd…
shrewsbury people have no knees = no bouncing haha i would have been like a whirling dirvish!!!!! awesome show guys!!!!!
Oh yesss☆♡

when you play to a dead crowd , this is what happens .
I think it's the mix on the video - it's all kinds of weird; they sound much more solid and heavy in real life. Plus, I'm pretty sure Mark's not in great health here - he's in much better form today, thankfully.
Brutal
@@rockfan9275 Ye I know what you mean about Mark ,he does seem fitter and healthier lately .Good for him ,he is great doing his solo stuff too
Love You!!!
My favourite song boatman at 26:40
Miss the Boatman jig tho!
No chance of a mosh pit with this crowd!? One of the best bands in my opinion and their all stood there like there watching Susan Boyle! unlike Boomtown.
*they're
*they're again
Middle class pricks, dar’t sit down for fear of sucking up the furniture
The didgeridoo such a beautiful noise...dreadlocks are as long as the didgeridoo..he come close to getting tangled in his strings a couple of times
And we are still sellin out as a race 30 years later, me included. Sad state of affairs
Great stuff
Legends. :)
Boatman...fantastic ❤

Nooo! What happened to your voice? Don't break my heart, howay man put some welly into it
They were in Brisbane a few weeks back for the Levelling the Land tour and they rocked like the old days.
ouffffffffffffff
Many many years of smoking.
How can Jeramy go from red dreads down to his ass in one clip to short black dreads in the next ?
Katie? ur kidding?xx

It must be hard playing the same songs 1000000 times and keeping the passion. Just ask Mark Chadwick.
Great gig shame the crowd are all half asleep. I guess that's folkies for you.
Goood
Good
Boatmans at 26 minutes if that's what you came for x

A bit too much reverb.
What are you talking about, things better with age! Like a fine wine! Don't talk rubbish
How tame is this Levs gig?
Always one of the best gigs but look at these fuckin lame crowd
Very ppor!! One Way!!
What a dead crowd....!
Too busy scratching their beards and pondering
God they lost it years ago
Going to see them this month in Glasgow, goodness I hope Mark doesn't sing like that. I hope it was more to do with the technicians and the setup as well as acoustics, but this sounds bloody awful.
i fear coke deaths aplenty. sad to say but ive seen it all before.
Whoever was on the sound desk should be shit and the crowd should have been. Bloody awful. And I love the Levellers.
I think all this crowd were on smack.

henry chaplin I watched them at beautiful days and they sound 😊 goodI mean amazing
Remind me never to go to Shresbury folk festival. Looks the worst crowd ive ever seen & not interested. You cant help but enjoy the levellers live.
Darren Alderson something tells me you may not be welcome at that festival. It's family friendly. You know, children etc.
Let's Chadwick shave his beard and take off the pork pie. I prefer his previous style.
What a terrible crowd... I'd have danced my guts out ten minutes into this set.
Magnificent band. Rubbish crowd.
Great gig but that audience really, sucked the life out of it . ,Band should have walked off ,saying if you aint bothered nor are we ,
