MAFEX Spider-Man Marvel Comics Medicom Action Figure Review

- In the span of this review I went from thinking the Medicom MAFEX Marvel Comics Spider-Man was high on the list but not the top because of some flaws to realizing that dang, this is my definitive Spidey. Sure, brighter colors would have put it over the top but this will definitely do for now.

Mafex, hidden joints, great articulation, great sculpts, awesome paints. They've really come a long way. They've always given a ton of accessories though.

The correct answer was "Not from a Jedi."

Well Gwen Stacy learned it, the hard way....
I'm so ready for mine
Ok...
Same here
Hands down, Jeff, this is my favorite Spiderman Action figure!
Same here
Same, and Istg if it’s a bootleg-
I'm looking forward to mine arriving. The proportions and wash application gives me such Toybiz vibes.
Where do you get it?
Ami ami
Thank you!! But how much is it?
Just got mine for the double the price. It was still worth it
Good stuff, Robo! Thnx for doing the work! Ain't got mine in hand yet, but, man, gotta admit, the tweaked leg posturing bums me out a slight bit in that neutral pose ... we'll see what's up when I get it in hand this weekend.
Also looking forward to seeing your take on this bro 😊👌
For $80 price tags we really need to be holding these companies accountable on their QA issues. It aint right
Huh? It's a high quality figure, excellent sculpt and articulation, i say those quality guys did their job
@@jimmyju76 QC, is much different than a company just delivering a high quality figure.
@@FlipFlab yep. The one I received is a piece of junk
@@TheGloominati that’s a shame, I have 4 Mafex boys currently, my Spidey, Venom and Carnage haven’t come out of the box yet. But, I have the Mafex Alien and boy, what a shitter piece of junk that thing is. Looks great but I’m gonna have to pick a pose and the accessories I want him to have and just glue it all together. That figure basically fell apart when I opened it. Very disappointed.
It does indeed look like a retool of that Spiderman classics "mcfarlane" Spiderman.
But artwise, it's not McFarlane, it's Bagley or even if you said Larsen, id agree.
Eyes are not McFarlane nor is spider symbols.
That head screams Bagley. Body's a little bulky for him though. Mark bagleys spidey looked emaciated in his suit
TheBd62 Bagley didn’t make him too skinny most of the time. He liked to give Spidey some thunder thighs lol
@@elib3093 yeah but the worlds tiniest waist. Especially when he was crouched. Bagleys still my favorite modern spidey artist though
It's definitely mcfarlane spider-man, same as the venom
@@jimmyju76 I disagree.
The sculpt and proportions on this figure is so good. I tend to not like classic comic Spider-Man figures, and I think it's because it's a hard design to pull off without it looking bland and basic. This figure just gets so much character and aesthetic across with the details. It's hard to explain, but it just looks right.
"Cry on his own shoulder"
Cause we all know know Spidey needs that in his life.
I can't wait for mine and I'm over whelmed as it is with pre-orders, but this is one of the few I'm really hype for.
Liked that rewind effect, hilarious, thanks great vid Robo
The neck on mine seemed to loosen up a little, but not floppy to where it moved by itself.
I'm gonna assume the holdable mask is really small to make it seem like it stretches out a lot.
Unless you consider the eye parts lenses.
@@TheFwoosh I don't when it comes to cartoon/comic figures.
@@JRSanchez93 I agree. The comics I never thought of them as lenses. The movies have us conditioned now to see them as lenses.
@@Toy_Reclaimer even in the comics they're reflective lenses, shattered many times, they've always been like that and described like that
You lucky bastard. I've been keeping an eye on eBay for a good price, but my big bad toy store pre-order is still a better price. So I guess I'm waiting a bit longer.
Also, really hoping they make a black suit version. Cause it's the best.
Never order from BBTS for imports that aren't shf they spike up the price
@@paullondon6956 At the time it was simple "guarantee I get one" but now it's actually a better price. $90 at BBTS vs $120 on eBay. But, yeah, they do jack up the price.

So lucky. I've been wanting to get my hands on this figure since the first in-store pics came out a few days ago. (I'm happy I decided to preorder him last year, but I'm still waiting for my supplier's notification.) Great review, man!
Great review! Wish the colors were a bit brighter. But this color harkens back to when marvel got rid of mcfarlane for making a too grown up spidey book
My favorite reviewer! You always make great points and make me laugh without trying too hard. Never change bro!
Re: Spidey, he looks a bit dirty, they way I imagine him looking after climbing NYC buildings and rooftops. I love him, indeed he's a good update to the McFarlane Spidey from years ago.
The sculpted web on the costume is sick, same as the old "Macfarlane Spider-Man". Also love the multiple heads. This is a very nice figure; I agree it could be the end all be all6 inch Spidey Figure. Also agree with the comments you made about it being worth it. I just dropped $230 at Target for those Neca Ninja Turtles, and at first felt like a sucker, then I thought I've wanted them since Comicon and missed out, so it's totally worth it. Besides, you can't put a price on Passion, brotha! Keep up the Updates and uniquely funny reviews.!
If it makes you happy and it's not hurting anyone, it's worth it! Can't put a price on joy.
I've been getting more and more into toy collecting and toy photography and your reviews have helped see them before I buy. Thank you! I loved this review and was wondering where you got your diorama backgrounds for the last bit of the video? Thanks in advance and keep up the great content because you're doing an excellent job
Got the notification so I had to come watch this. Watching this made me think why didn't Hasbro put an end all be all spidey in the 80th anniversary line?
In your shot at 13:06 the colors and shines look fantastic (and pretty close to the prototype), so I'm thinking this guy just needs the right lighting.
If you mean keep him in near darkness, then yeah, haha. That's my camera compensating for dim lighting.
I’m so excited for mine to come in, I’m not too disappointed In the changes made but I just hope they don’t change the look of the iron spider
Great review Robo! Definitely a good Spidey for your shelf. That handheld mask is super-tiny, lol.
I feel you Robo, I was expecting the definitive spiderman bright red and blue but the wash looks really bad to me, great mcfarlane but he is not my favorite artist and his stile doesn't blend well with others I want It but 80 bucks for a spiderman it better be everithing that I want haha
as much as the wash ruins the colors of the figure, i skipped out on the mafex homecoming version and preorder this one. the articulation looks legit, and the pictures you posted at the end confirmed me of the poses i want him to be in my collection. Good review as always Robo.
Thanks man!
Very well done review. I enjoyed that. Gonna order this figure tomorrow for sure. Thanks pal.
No, thank you!
This is going to be my first Mafex and probably my last, the price is just too steep and they seem to be trending upwards. This will definitely be my definitive Spidey in my Legends display though. Guess I can always sell my new in package pizza Spidey to pay for it lol
Immortal Sennin the only mafexes i plan on getting is gwenpool and maybe movie aquaman since i love both and the figures are just too damn expensive. both also knock out the accuracy of both characters and their characteristics
@@blankisfornerds That Gwen looks great I can't lie, I just collect too many lines, S.H. Figuarts DBZ, Storm Collectibles, Legends, MP Transformers....yeah, can't afford anything else lol
Though the figure is amazing, I'm just a little dissapointed because of that paint. I definitely think it's up there with the best Spidey figures of all time (it maybe even IS the best Spidey figure yet), though I really wished it looked more like the promotional pictures; it would've made the figure perfect and without a doubt the best 6 inch Spidey figure.
P.S. Been waiting forever since the reveal for this figure lol.
OH MAN THAT IS AMAZING!🤩👍🏻Great review too man!😉👍🏻Though after seeing other reviews, it seems as though yours has couple defects.
Mine probably arrives next week, I'm a bit worried after watching reviews and photos of the figure. Since the photos from the Wonder Fes? Toy Fair? Can`t really remember from where are those, but yeah, since these pics I noticed the heavier paint apps on the unmasked head and the whole body and that discouraged me a bit. I still want it because the figure looks really dope when posed properly, kudos to you for these pics at the end, that's the kind of stuff that keeps my hopes up for when mine arrives.
Thanks for the video, the detailed review and the nice pics. AmiAmi shipped my Spidey altogether with Fate's Mordred figma, so I think I'll still have something to be happy in the case I end up not liking it when in hand, lol, I hope that doesn't happen, though!
I was looking forward to this but the shading looks horrendous, shame they couldn't have giving this a matte finish
RazzyBark this looks like a fake to me
It's a great 90's Bagley Spider-Man. Now, we just need that perfect Romita Spider-Man, and all will be as it should be.
Ain't _M.Bagley_ the Org. (and main) 'Ultimate Spider-man' artist from the 2000's.... Not the 90's. An what Romita? Specify, Cause Sr. & JRJR's ASM templates our completely different.
@@latestred6510 Bagley was the artist for Spider-Man in the 90's... Notably for the first issues featuring Carnage!
And Romita Sr.
I still love the Spider-Man Classics Series 1 Spider-Man figure. The one with Amazing Spider-Man #301 in the package.
Might get this next week, I’ve been eyeing this one or Peter B for a while now. I like the dark colors of this one more than the rerelease
The sculpt and articulation is really good, I just wish it had brighter colors... still, not sure about the price
Another Great review.. thanks!
Is it time to compare all the Spider-Men in your collection, for a proper buyer's perspective, with a score at the end? Thank you, as always, for a sweet review (loved the pictures at the end, please more of that, if feasible).
I really wish I still had a lot of the older Spider-Mans to compare to but I went through a heavy customizing phase and nothing was sacred. Not that I care about value but it would have been handy to have those for this.
Yeah he looks better on the box😂 those colours are too dark for me
I’m totally with you on the conflicted side. This was one of the highlights off the year for me and if I liked this figure I would go deep in on the comic Mafex.
It is a good figure and I do like it, but I don’t love it.
Saying that, I do love your review and I hope you are well.
Thanks man, finally feeling back to normal. And yup, you got it, I really REALLY like the figure but there is room for improvement.
Ha! (regarding "double trouble", the Spider-Man quote). Both Mafex and the Yamaguchi line seem to get their quotations by randomly throwing darts at a comic. Yamaguchi's Psylocke: "I'm not avoiding anything. We should go into the city and have dinner."
I SO love how you review your action figures BEFORE you do the review to your action figures, if you catch my drift. Another reviewer I watch, that will remain nameless, just opens them & goes right to the review. He constantly breaks shit & gives bad reviews to figures that deserve more credit all because he don't know yst. He's one of the biggest critics & I do like him but maybe that's all I'll say about that. Love this figure.
I’m gonna guess you are talkin about Anthony’s Customs.
@@shism28 Heh. Yeah but he's dope too. Just a major critic and can change his words depending on the day is all. Meaning I seen him re review a toy and give it a completely different overhaul and rating. But I absolutely love how @Fwoosh, aka Robo always knows his toy first. On my channel I would do it more said other reviewers way but that was a time and space thing. I'm @ Cdog Cdog mostly Transformers reviews.
The best part of sculpted weblines is the web paint won't wear off or get scratched off. And if it does, it's easy to fix.
Agreed. I prefer it this way to being sculpted out or just painted on.
Yeah that does look like a toybiz spiderman , & after that quick glimpse of a part of your shelf I would like to see an update video of your collection shelf how long ago did you do a video on you collection shelfs
I was waiting for your opinion! Nice review as always. IMO this is a VERY good Spider-man, but it's not great. I like the mold a lot, most of the articulation and the magnets are such a cool idea. However, besides minor gripes (torso kinda limited, it looks weird in a neutral pose, faceprint is really soft), I think the biggest one is the price & paintjob: considering you're paying 80 dollars for it, it should LOOK like a premium action figure...and frankly, it doesn't. It's clearly better than a Marvel Legends, but it is possible to mistake it from a far because of the paintjob. I wish they found a way to hide the inner-workings of the legs as well. I think it's still my favorite spider-man so far, but it had the potential to be amazing...maybe their Venom then ? (tho I love what Yamaguchi did, this Venom is so different it's worth it).
While the darker colors are different from the promo pictures, it still looks great! Definite 90s vibes. QC doesn’t seem to be an issue and the articulation is great.
Oh, definitely agree, just kind of jarring change in color. I'd prefer the brighter colors but this is no slouch at all!
This figure is insane!
As much as I love this one, I have to wait for the version 2.0
I want to get the "clean" one that they showed in the promo pix and cons.... Thank you for the review Robo!
Oh, that would be pretty sweet.
Better get this one then. The reissues gonna be worse imo.
Why I love those plastic thing so much?
Will you do Venom review? Would love to see that.
I have it in the pile, may have to go back and review it.
The reason the mask is small is because the mask is elasticized so it retracts
What about the eye lenses?
I suppose it depends on what the comic depicted them as were they lenses or just a pattern change to see through ? You make a good point.
Hah that rewind imitation was good
I can hear the electric guitar already,"spider blood, spider blood, radioactive spider blood."
I think the stand and cone webing should be for the "attached to ceiling" look. Also about the removed mask, think of it like an deflated one so the scale looks small.
That works if you don't consider the white and black part actual lenses.
Stop inching towards madness and take a just jump right in Robo the water feels soooooo good in the madness.. And we all float down here. Anyway great video man and love all the coverage you gave us on the NY toy fair
Love your reviews!
Thanks!
Yeah the darkness or flatness of the color threw me a bit. It kind of reminds of me the Andrew Garfield Spidey Suit. The rest looks pretty great and those eyes really pop.
This spiderman looks a lot like Mark Bagley's run in Amazing Spiderman
Haha exactly !!! As soon as I saw the thumbnail for your vid I instantly thought toybiz Spider-Man classics McFarlane spidey lol no doubt about it, but it still looks pretty damn cool I’m definitely interested in buying these comic figures they’re doing
I'm really bummed I missed out on the preorder. Now it's prices are driving up everywhere. Hopefully they come back down in a few weeks :/
Great review, the reason for the mask being smaller is that it is made from stretchier material.
Unless those are lenses for the eyes.
Whatup Robo! Mafex (Medicomm) should've had the rings on the webbing colored red so it blends with the suit.
Didn't even think of that, but agree. May be tough to do two colors in the same mold consistently, even though we've seen Bandai do it. I guess slapping some paint on wouldn't have been too much though, hmm.
Hi, thank you for the great review!
Can you please tell me where you got the diorama from?
What do you figure the retail cost is in Japan (in dollars) as a domestic product there? Heading over to Tokyo later this year & I'm wondering whether just to pick it up there to bypass these ridiculous gouged secondary market prices.
It's about $70 there but no telling if it will still be available by then.
this is so a 90s spiderman its a shame the holdable mask is small an at that price i would want a perfect paint job ! but still another fantastic review from the master
Any ideas on how to get the wash off? Not a fan.
It's pretty much imposible for a Spider-Man with sculpted webbing to have all of the lines painted, this one actually does a better job compared to most of the ones I've seen.
Now, it's true, the Revoltech one is considerably more articulated (I'd even argue that there won't be a more articulated Spidey, ever.) yet, if you want to sacrifice only a LITTLE BIT OF RANGE for a better looking Spidey with better sculpted proportions and high detail, I believe MAFEX is the way to go.
Now, personally, I don't have a problem with it not being as "shiny" as the promo pics show, I believe it would've look wat too metalic, which is a throwback, at least for me... Considering how most Marvel lines don't have metalic-ish painting, which could make it look off on a shelf, so again *PERSONALLY* the fact that they reduced the shiness on it, actually makes me happy.
... Still, that unmasked head... For the love of God, that's horrible, nowhere near the promo pics.
Oh man, you're in the Fwoosh zone, don't be nervous to throw your opinion. We all dig different things and that's totally cool. I'm actually pretty down with the darker colors now that I've sat on it for a few days, just threw me that it was so different from the advertised colors. But me being me, I'd probably buy a second one with the brighter scheme. Then another in symbiote colors. Then another in whatever look they want to give us, haha.
It looks like the paint is a little fuzzy around some of the places where the blue meets the red. Is that accurate to say?
It's stuff I didn't even notice until I was editing the video, not that bad in-person. But it also may be time to get my eyes checked.
Yo actual display and not the blue background when its pic time? Lol it was pretty cool
I really love the figure but I was a little bummed the colors were darker than expected
Yeah, which is still coll in a different way but not really what was advertised.
The Fwoosh yeah I know, when I pulled it outta the ami ami box I was like “oh yea....why’s it so dark?” But I do love it....mafex killed it on the head sculpt for the last Superman release but the Peter Parker head is so so, maybe cause they were going for a comic look instead of real life
I can’t wait to get this guy
This is one of the best spider-man figures. Im surprised at how hesitant you are about it. No gimmicks. Great articulation. Nice accessories. No yamaguchi-whatever nonsense. Great figure. What's the problem?
Unless you're a fan of yamaguchi-whatever nonsense. But I wouldn't liked a little more range in the torso and brighter colors, maybe a little cheaper. And before you go "You're just being nitpicky" I do really like the figure, and I think it's my main shelf Spider-Man. But there's room for improvement.
I really, really enjoy the yamaguchi aesthetic and range of articulation in the figures, I just always feel like I'm going to break the joints if I accidentally pull the wrong direction. I can agree that I would like the colors here to be slightly brighter, but I have seen a few of these that are not as dark as yours. Maybe it's the way they're coming out on the camera. I can't wait to get mine.
How does this figure hold up joint wise? Are the joints starting to become loose after a while? I've never had a Mafex figure before and didn't know if it was worth spending $100 on a figure that will loosen over time.
So, let me give you my experience with Mafex so far
I have three separate Mafex Spider-man figures. The Amazing Spider-man 1, The Amazing Spider-man 2, and the Spider-man Homecoming. Each of them have their pros and cons, but I must say. They all look BEAUTIFUL. I mean, I have my S.H. Figuarts Star Wars Ep. 3 Anakin fighting the Amazing Spider-man 1 figure. They hold their posture very well, and I haven't had any problem with any of their joints. Just be careful with the hand pegs, because they're a little smaller. I would recommend buying them through Amazon (MAKE SURE THAT THE SELLER SAYS MAFEX!!!!!) or Big Bad Toy Store. Both are very reliable websites they will not have you waste money
for some reason in the photos, at the end of the video, the coloring looks SO much better than the video parts. which is more accurate to life?
At the end my camera was compensating for dim lighting and pulled the colors a little too hard, it's more accurate in the actual video.
Happy I canceled my preorder. That paint is such a disappointment
@@scottloring6188 I COULD get this, just can someone tell me why it's so expensive?

I don’t get it either. I too liked the promo shots but people are making it seem like the black wash is somewhat of a defect when it’s accurate to the source material.

Thank you!! How much is it?
@@matthewgonzalez6235 $67.99 plus shipping
THANK YOU SM!! Really appreciate it!
I’m getting mine for Christmas 😁😁😁
I can see why you’re conflicted. It looks great and has all the articulation you’d want in a Spiderman figure, but $75-$90 is expensive and from the reviews I’ve seen so far, there seems to be issues that shouldn’t be in a figure that’s almost $100. Like the loose hands you mentioned. The unmasked head doesn’t look that great and the detail is pretty fuzzy for the face. I’ve also heard of other loose joints like the torso and shoulders as well as the shoulders popping off, and missing paint wash for the webbings. If I’m paying $75-$90 on a figure, I expect the quality control to be top notch or at least with no minor issues that really shouldn’t be there. So yeah it looks good but I’m not sure it it’s “$80 good”.
You, my friend, absolutely nailed it. Said in 30 seconds what took me 15 minutes.
Sorry to do your job for you lol but this was a great video and review. Big fan of your channel. Keep it up!
Let's see a review of the Reiusse, dude!

Hobby link japan is doing a back order for this and venom I already pre ordered this guy
i am going to buy this now that is definitely macfarlene spidey
It seems like the blue is brighter depending on the lighting situations. In some of your pics the blue looks kinda saturated. I wish they kept it like the promo pics. I was excited about that super bright blue. you think they will fix it once it releases again?
Not sure, but if they do, I may not be able to resist.
I love it. Can't wait!
Damn , I'm still over here waiting for mine to even get shipped. I'm fucking jealous
Funny thing too, Amazon.jp did the old "Your credit card is invalid" which means I'm boned there, so I had to jump over to Amiami after release and grab it. I'm loving DHL.
@@TheFwoosh hey robo do you have any information as for when we should start getting this Spider-Man shipped out in the U.S. via sites like bigbadtoystore?

Apparently the paint isn’t looking as bad in my review... 🤔
Just curious, where do you buy this brand? This thing in package looks great and very 90's.
I really like more the paint of the toy instead of how it looks in the shots and pictures
I sooo need this. I orginally had planned to order it. I guess I didnt
Im mostly getting it so I can finally have spiderman that can make crawl poses and lack those damn red pins in the arms articulations.
I'll probably stick with my Revoltech one.
I really put great posability >> joint visibility.
Unkess it's DC, then I'll probably go with Mezco.
Different strokes make the world go around! I still love my Revo too, nothing wrong with that.
The Fwoosh
Though I'm pretty jazzed about that Mafex Venom. I'll definitely pass on Revo Venom and go with Mafex for my shelf. I've honestly never liked big monster venom. Gerardo Sandoval has my favorite Venom design, and really it's an updated, bulkier McFarlane Venom.
I’ve seen a lot of people give huge compliments to this figure and was really waiting for your review but I’m not sure I’m gonna get it. Also didn’t sound like you were 100 percent in either. The price might just be too high and not worth the risk plus not sure about the aesthetic either. Idk still back and forth. 😔 plus last time I bought mafex it was broke out of the package. Don’t wanna spend that much for a broken figure. At the same time it’s so cool uggggh
Honestly, I've had the broken MAFEX thing too, but not with the past few years worth of releases, they've really seemed to concentrate on the QC department after those dark years. But now they need to focus on making the final product look like the prototype more. Don't get me wrong, I love this thing but I feel like there is room for improvement.
The Fwoosh true. I think I am gonna get it unless another order comes out before. I have this money saved for this figure (or something better) just worries me because my last broken figure was the Mafex tactical Batman which was a real shame because I got the regular one and that is probably the best Batman figure out there minus mezco.
Seems like yamaguchi has met its match. But can you truly compare a MAFEX figure to the reputable revoltech mechanics? I’m afraid this figure’s joints may wear out one day and fall out of pose or something 😬
I wonder also how well he scales with McFarlane figs, especially COD and Fortnite ones. My friend [from my local FB collectors group] wants to sell few of his spare figs and i wonder would those COD and Fortnite soldiers work out as a decent merc army builder for my future dio [atm i own Mafex Venom and im waiting for my spidey and miles to arrive , since Mafex did not give us any more spider-verse characters im trying to do some dio with your common mercs and other stuff =) ]
By any chance do the ball joints get lose quickly.
Great video 👍
How strong are the magnetic hands/feet? Waiting for mine to arrive, trying to figure out where I'm going to put it.
Pretty damn strong
If you're using a flat surface, not bad at all, but my fridge and shelves have the hammered texture and it didn't work that well at first but got better the more I tried.
Web-Linez - thanks!
The Fwoosh - thanks, the surfaces I’m debating over are all flat, just a matter of where my house needs more Spider-Man-ing up the decor.
did you get the figuarts Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan? i've seen reviews and usually your review is around that same time
I did but I'm struggling to do a full review on it, not being too different from the ones we have.
The Fwoosh that makes sense. just curious cause I thought it looked like a pretty solid figure
The main thing I dislike about this figure is the hands, they are just not comic book.. they are just re-sculpted from mafex's previous Spider-man release, which seems a little cheap to me, same with the mask accessory, that's why it's too small, it's just the re-sculpt from the amazing spider-man 2 mafex figure. Mafex definitely cheeped out on us here.. That being said; I love this overall, the 90's style head sculpt's and the overall design hits me right in the geek spot. As for the hands I plan to replace them with the amazing yamaguci spider-man hands, which is what mafex should of given us. I've seen someone online already try this and it looks ten times better than the original hands. This figure Is way overpriced in my opinion, but I am not gonna miss out on it, who knows when we'll get another comic spider- man?..
Could be another life, so this is it. Get it while you can folks 🐱👤🔥💖
What's up Fwoosh?!
I have an ever growing Neca Predator collector & I was just wondering if you knew anyone that would make & sell a jungle diorama 4 my Predator figures?
