Thanks for all your videos Paul. Your open, down to earth approach is terrific and I look forward to each new video. I'm living in Australia now, but did a lot of walking in Edale and the Peak District whilst at Sheffield University so your footage often brings back great memories. Cheers!
Why not cut your steak and mix with mix and peppers etc and leave in ziplock bag. Less weight and better marination. Less prep time in tent. Also bit of oil in marinade saves carrying oil.
Stunning Sunrise Paul, worth it just for that:) A nice way to start the new year even if you did forget a few things! All the best for the New year to everyone Sandy
Really a good job filming that hike to your camping place. How you can hold the camera out away from you and negotiate those odd, off-balance (and water covered) steps must take a while to master. And the tent looks like a Terra Nova Voyager... One of my favorite tents. A good, challenging night out. Thank you, Paul.
It's great that you admit and publish when you think you've gone wrong. Truth be told that camp was probably how 90% of them happen for us that do it a few times a year. It's completely worth it for that view though. Happy new year.
Good to see that we're all able to make mistakes and admit to it. At the end of the day it all worked out. I had a similar experience recently where the boggy terrain slowed ne down and i hadn't t accounted for it in route timings, so ended up coming off the hill in the dark. Great video as always
The voyager is a classic superb tent, the only reason I didn't buy one 15years ago I prefer lying parallel with the entrance so when for the Solar. Always had inner pitch tents and would never have anything else.
No bad experiences when camping, just lessons to be learned. Ya should try camping in Ireland... It's non-stop rain.. All my tents, (all three of them) are outter pitch first for that reason and I always have a light tarp. That's only useful if there's no wind though.
I've done a handful of nighttime with light rain setups and after you've done a few you come away stronger and wonder what all the worry was all about, as long as you've got light and make haste it's great life skill to add to your arsenal.
Good deal on those Rab insulated trousers, last year I grabbed a pair of Western Mountaineering Flight down pants on eBay and what a game changer! Being able to sit around on a breezy -10C night and be toasty warm thanks to the down pants, down booties, and Marmot Greenland down parka. It’s well worth the 1030g and 3l of volume they take up. I’m using a 70l pack right now so 3l is hardly even missed. Have a great new year!
Your pitch reminds me of when I walked the Cleveland Way. One night I pitched on the moors after dark and I walked around an area of grass and chose the patch which didn't squelch when I trod on it (It was hard to see the profile of the land by torchlight) and after a night of heavy rain, I woke in the morning happily and beautifully pitched on an island. I'd highly comment the inland section of the Cleveland Way. The effort to reward ratio is very high.
I do love this configuration of tent for solo backpacking. I have used a TNF tadpole in some awful conditions and slept safe and sound! They're not fun to pitch when it's raining etc so you did well. I love a all on one pitch tent these days!
I watched this video randomly about a week ago. Since then, and 20 odd of your videos later, I’ve purchased a full camping set-up and had my first night with my 8yr old son in the garden. Baby steps. Thanks Paul, you really inspired me / got me excited about this. Really enjoy the ‘real’ approach you take. Great, useful and entertaining videos.
... A bit of a wet start to the new year ,, but a safe hike .. a good feed ,, a dry tent and a beautiful sunrise to start the next day .... sure seems like a win to me .... Stay Safe ...
It a nice looking tent Paul and i was surprised how light it was for the number of poles it has. Using it on overnighters seems like a good idea as if the inner gets wet it only one night and you can then dry it out. I dont think i would trust it on a long distance hike though as you can guarantee one thing in the UK... it will rain. Thanks again for the content, i genuinely love the stuff you look at so we all can get an idea of the merits of the kit you test. Keep up the good work mate.
Those down pants are a welcome addition to the winter kit Paul. I picked up the Argon ones at Mountain Outfitters early last year, keep toasty warm before jumping into the sleeping bag. That climb up the side of plantation never gets any easier 😂 do enjoy the small scramble on Ringing Roger though.
I remember my years of an inner pitch first tent, my wife and I got very good at threading the poles with the fly held over the inner when it was raining. But now that I walk solo more of the time, I am far happier with an all-in-one pitch. In my limited experience the inner is only saggy on (all in one) tunnel tents not domes and geodesics. So you can have your cake and eat it (even without the spice mix...)
Not as calamitous as our last camp when yours truly forgot to take any gas for the first time ever! But at east there was a pub withing walking distance, so every cloud etc :) I can't wait to get out wild camping again, but I have a new little tent so I'll wait for better weather I reckon before testing it out :) I've loved Ringing Roger since I first went there on a geography field trip with school in the early 1970s!
Another fantastic video Paul and a great sunrise.. Enjoy your new approach to video making and don't worry about the accusations of being paid. You're a great honest guy and we appreciate you .. Happy New Year 🎉
Usually the bad ideas end up being good. Unless you’re getting really p** off then probably a no no and revaluate the situation. Great camp kudos for your efforts on a challenging wet week. It’s the Messner affect that gets us out.
I think it just shows that if you take that first step and put the effort it , then rewards are often just around the corner. Another enjoyable video. Thanks to the algorithms and watching your channel I’ve recently been introduced to Andrew Beavers and his ( imho) excellent channel. You featured briefly in one i recently watched. All the best to you and your audience for the New Year and I look forward to whatever you produce for us 👏😀
Mate love your vid’s how you can cook while all your kit out(sleeping system) etc? I unpack all that when it’s time to sleep. Only use kit then put it away?along as your dry and warm no better sound with rain on tent/pouch until you have t get out. Glad you kept filming 👍
Happy new year to you paul. You did well getting up there with weather being so rough. Your cooking skills were great. Must be lovly getting everything sorted in that enviornment and enjoying freshly prepared food. You are an inspiration. Karl
Hi Paul!! Happy New Year mate 😃🎉🥳 Great video and glad you enjoyed the fajitas even without the mix haha. What an awesome surprise in the morning... fantastic 😁 Take it easy pal... ATB.. Chris 🙏🏼👍🏻🍻🏕
Good to get the first of the year done amd dusted and out of the way. The morning's view was worth it for sure! Just a thought but would be interesting to see what you reckon to the zenbivvy sheet that goes over your mattress. They look good and hold the pillow in a pocket and it might reduce the noise...
Happy new year. That tent looks very decent, sturdy structure design (looks pretty similar to a Hilly Jannu), spacious and indeed minimal flappy inner. Inner-first setup isn't necessarily a deal-breaker, used an UL 'inner first' for years. Did need a microfiber cloth occasionally (and a bit of verbal ventilation in very bad weather). Beautiful pitch up there with a gorgeous little sunrise to start the day/new year.
I've recently discovered those instant coffee bags...great first thing in the morning on a wild camp. I leave the bag in the cup and just keep topping up with water, no milk!!
Paul - love your videos. Keep up the amazing work. An idea (maybe) could you explore coffee making in a wild camp, it would be good to see you try out portable espresso machines. Coffee in a sachet doesn’t have any theatre……
Adversity is so paradoxical when wild camping. On the one hand, it can put a bit of a downer on the adventure. But at the same time, when you conquer the elements, you feel like you’ve accomplished something and become stronger for it 💪🏻 That’s why we always say “It all adds to the adventure” 🤙🏻 Great video as always Paul! Hope to see you in the hills one day 🙏🏻💙
You don’t “conquer the elements “. They are not animate. The elements don’t give a toss about you. You just accept what they are, and adapt with perseverance and joy.
It all was fine Paul, 🙂, the pitch, the vista, the weather cleared for you, no fog, the 3 season tent performed perfectly....however, you forgot the SPICES! 🙃
I've always said that a good inner pitch first tent is no bother in the UK. I've used my mates voyager super light loads of times, it has clips instead of the sleeves of the standard voyager, it's really quick to set up and there's a dwr on the inner. My Mrs elixir is particularly taught, especially when I use my trekking poles to support the ends of the half pole (video on my channel of the mods I made😉) great video as always Paul, Happy new year to Jo and yourself.
Happy New Year. A campsite with its own water feature - lovely! When you said you'd forgotten pat of your tea I thought you were going to say the fajitas. Cracking sunrise though. Cheers
Happy 2024 good sir ! Just watching this reminded me to look into getting a Bivvy and try it out. Just for easier and smaller footprint while camping. Now to research into which one to purchase
Great video. You say ‘easy fit’ with your added guyline but one day a short vid with instructions would be fantastic for those of us who would benefit from some tips.
Messner castle, with a moat and all. Love the soto windmaster. Been waiting for the msr lowdown to go low in price or find one second hand. Not happened yet :) One thing I don't get is why bother with the msr lowdown on the table. I recon it'd fare better straight on the floor, no chance of sliding. And would create a bigger separation to tent fly. In all, good set up.
The only calamity/mistake I saw was forgetting the fajita seasoning. You do make your camps seem effortless but most of us know it’s anything but that.
nice video as always.and it's always nice to wake up to that type of view's :) just got home this morning from a 1 night trip and it was almost 30 degrees below 0. so it was a bit cold and very "difficult" to get out of the sleepingbag :)
What a beautiful view you had in the morning, I like my lowdown, I know an oex hiero fits, do the bigger ones? You have them lol, I think they are to tall, Coleman do basically one on a lowdown , The lowdown is expensive
Watching this whilst pitched in a Voyager myself just off Kinder Low trig 😀 Edit, fyi Paul you can pitch the Voyager with the rain fly on! It's just a bit more fiddly :)

I love that when it feels like everything is going against you,and then mother nature rewards you with a sunrise like that, great video paul,🎉
Don’t beat up on yourself too much Paul, we all make mistakes, thank you for the video mate 😀
Camping in style, Paul. You've got a moat around your tent!
As always, great video.
Looks amazing, challenging camps make great memories and viewing.
Impressed that you found the only spot to camp with a moat. That’s a win in my book! Thanks for the effort pushing out the content and Happy New Year
that looks like a cracking tent that one, very snug and cosy inside
Why not cut your steak and mix with mix and peppers etc and leave in ziplock bag. Less weight and better marination. Less prep time in tent. Also bit of oil in marinade saves carrying oil.
Happy New year Paul
Looks another good camp
Do you ever do a video of what you do when you get home with all the wet camping gear
Thanks
Jim
Stunning Sunrise Paul, worth it just for that:)
A nice way to start the new year even if you did forget a few things!
All the best for the New year to everyone
Sandy
You did more than the rest of us you got out and completed your first 2024 camp still got to do mine well done and happy new year 🎉😊

Tell me about it you must luv camping and are well Prepared especially in our Weather ☘️👍
Yes Paul.. Soto Windmaster is the 1 😎😎
Great vid as always, scran looked decent even without the fajita seasoning! 😊
Struggling to see what the calamity was here. Looked a decent camp to me. The tent didn't fail and you still had some barrie grub, by the looks of it.
If forgetting the spice packet for his fajitas was the worst of it, then that wasn't too bad!
You must be the only outdoor and camping content creator that has a rain cloud that follows him where ever he goes, nice job mate.
He must have meant because he started too late, ending up setting up camp in the dark and rain.
Soto Windmaster stoves. I like them so much I've got 2. I use the pots & kettle with the heat ring underneath. Super quick boil times. 10/10.
Happy new year Paul that pad is well noisey, get yourself a Big Agnes Q core , really comfy, and no noise. keep up the good work for 2024

Happy New Year Paul, after the wind, rain and storms we've had that sunrise was beautiful to see thanks😀
Beautiful video , great shots and nature , best greetings from a swedish bushcrafter 🌲
That food + the sunrise was awesome. As a lay person I'd say it was a successful trip. Keep them coming ❤

Cheers from the USA, friend. Lovely sunrise. Beautiful scenery. You’ve inspired me to get out and camp! Thanks for sharing this video!
lol! I hear ya. We make deals with the bears - we leave them alone; they leave us alone. 🙂@bitemyshite

Well done great view tks
Cooking tip, cook and brown the meat and then add veg last. Meat takes longer than veg to cook.
As always Paul , A pleasure to watch your video . Have A safe and happy new year !
Happy New Year Paul. A few hiccups on the trail but well worth it for the fajitas and that lovely sunrise. Nice one.
Another fantastic video Paul and a great sunrise.. Enjoy your new approach to video making and don't worry about the accusations of being paid. You're a great honest guy and we appreciate you .. Happy New Year 🎉

Beautiful views, complete with a sunrise!
Great camp Paul, it wasnt looking the most inviting on your hike up, but your efforts were rewarded with a beautiful sun rise 👍
Great video Paul i have had some bad times trying to stick my tent up in the rain
I love watching these cold and wet camping videos from the comfort and warmth of my home
I think it just shows that if you take that first step and put the effort it , then rewards are often just around the corner. Another enjoyable video. Great comment, 👍
Hi Paul!! Happy New Year mate 😃🎉🥳
Great video and glad you enjoyed the fajitas even without the mix haha. What an awesome surprise in the morning... fantastic 😁
Take it easy pal...
ATB.. Chris 🙏🏼👍🏻🍻🏕
Yip..also got a voyager. A good solid tent with plenty of room and not too heavy. I use a silvered thin poly footprint with mine.😊
Great video paul that tent is awesome looking forward to seeing you more

I enjoyed the video. I thought you fought through the entire process well. And were rewarded with an epic sunrise.
Cheers Paul I'm glad you struggled on and gave us a good video a first for the New year.😊
prep planing prepacking and unpackking , storing matenence tips and hachs please !
Happy New Year, Paul.
Paul I love the sound of rain I can’t wait to get out 👍🏴⛺️
Happy New Year. What a beautiful view to wake up to.
Use the low-down base in subzero so you can invert the canister.
Great video, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Looked like mount doom on the horizon, beautiful scenery
Wow really good vlog. I like hanging out with you from the comforts of my living room. Thank you
Happy new year Paul. Another great video of an inspiring experience.

I was up there last week and it’s a bit soggy definitely. Great vid as always bud
Enjoyed that one. You do eat well on your camps . Happy new year Paul
Great video for us Vicarious campers, thank you. Your Swiss Army knife is beautifully sharp.
I love my S2S mats. The extreme is so warm although bulky. I've seen too many thermarest fail to switch. What a beautiful sunrise 😍
All the best kidda and to all your subscribers.
Brilliant vid.
Happy 2024 good sir !

Av yer thought of doing a calendar with yer tent in the foreground of the broody clouds, inversions and sunrises etc....
'Ull' east yorkshire.
Love it… made me laugh mate when you said you forgot something again 😂
Another great video paul keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Well planned and executed content.
The Voyager remains a solid shelter Paul... I'm still surprised more manufacturers don't produce in that three pole geo format.
It was used by many manufacturers in the 1980s.
The only calamity/mistake I saw was forgetting the fajita seasoning. You do make your camps seem effortless but most of us know it’s anything but that.
nice video as always.and it's always nice to wake up to that type of view's :)
just got home this morning from a 1 night trip and it was almost 30 degrees below 0. so it was a bit cold and very "difficult" to get out of the sleepingbag :)
I have the remote-canister FMS 117T which is lower down and lighter than a canister-top with the lowdown adapter.
What a beautiful view you had in the morning,
I like my lowdown, I know an oex hiero fits, do the bigger ones?
You have them lol,
I think they are to tall, Coleman do basically one on a lowdown ,
The lowdown is expensive
Watching this whilst pitched in a Voyager myself just off Kinder Low trig 😀
Edit, fyi Paul you can pitch the Voyager with the rain fly on! It's just a bit more fiddly :)
Happy new Year Paul! Great way to start the new year! Ciao from the Veneto!
