Yeah. I personally enjoy Kat's character a lot. I relate to her in a lot of ways, and I think a lot of LGBTQ+ people can too, the first sexual experiences after you start exploring, the hipersexualization, the fantasy of it all. At least imo.
I think you're not realising that the only reason Kat gained confidence is because of the sexual attention from men, apart from her weight she has used that attention of men to empower herself BUT now she has lost that attention shes starting to spiral because Ethan's affection towards her isn't based in sex

Sam Levinson needs to let other writers into the writers room. While Euphoria has a lot of strengths it’s biggest weaknesses come from him being the only writer of the series. You can tell from this season there’s not a lot of narrative structure, too many characters & storylines, and the dialogue is messy. Along with Cals backstory being absolutely irrelevant and a cheap way of trying to the audience to feel bad for him. Also there’s too much unnecessary nudity on the show (especially with Cassie) I feel like Sam is taking advantage of Sydneys comfortability with being nude on the show and he needs to stop. And all these problems could be fixed if Euphoria was more diverse behind the screen as well as on screen!
I completely agree! Tyler Perry also struggles with this - literally being the only writer for his gazillion movies, 8,000 TV shows, and his plays… and it definitely shows. I find a lot of Tyler’s work unorganized, unstructured, and just chaotic, and I can’t ever finish any of his TV shows because it’s insufferable. A show that I think does wonderfully in creating cohesive and organized storylines that intertwine beautifully is This Is Us. There’s a ton of characters in This Is Us, but you can tell that there’s a dedicated writing team who has the investment and effort to convey a storyline that’s extraordinary to the audience. I understand hiring multiple writers can be expensive, but I wish Sam would just eat the cost and just do it.
Sydney actually had them tone down the scene from episode 2 nudity wise, so if that was the toned down version…👀
I don't feel any sympathy for Cal from his backstory, but I do see why they included it narratively and I think it's foreshadowing that Nate might get either Cassie or Maddy pregnant this season. The whole narrative theme about Nate and Cal is repeating cycles. How part of the reason Nate is such a psychopath is because of what he saw from his dad. So in Cal's backstory we see that he was a popular straight jock who got whatever he wanted, had a ton of sex with his girlfriend, and turned out to be repressing his sexuality because of toxic masculinity. That repression is part of why he's such a sociopath now, fucking underaged high schoolers and shit. And now we see Nate has been on the same path; popular jock who gets what he wants, has a ton of straight sex, is repressing his sexuality. All of that plus the fact that he saw his dad's tapes when he was younger has made him into the same fucking psychopath, dialed up to 11. So if Nate is going down the same path as his dad, he's definitely gonna get someone pregnant this season.

@@faiali2895 it feels like it’s honestly a totally different show like… episode one of season one set up events for the ENTIRE season whereas episode one of season two didn’t really do much. Rues drug selling is a side plot, fez and Nate’s rivalry seems to be at a stand still, Cassie and Maddie’s story is kinda interesting but also came out of left field (when has Nate EVER said anything positive or even nice about Cassie) and I’m bored of the love triangle already… it really just feels like there’s some type of tonal and narrative shift between seasons.
Hell, there hasn’t even been a real revisit to what happened around Christmas and the special episodes. Why would Jules dad let her go out and party after she ran away like two weeks ago (and why didn’t we get any type of convo between them where he inquired why she left) and why is Rues MOM okay with Rue going out and doing whatever after yet another OD? It really does feel like a bunch of disjointed story arcs and I don’t know why.

I feel like season 1 was better at distributing storylines and screentime among characters, rn it's a little messy and focuses waaaay too much on nate and plot surrounding him. At least they have more scenes of characters interacting with each other cause it feels like they go through a lot by themselves and I even forgot these people go to school together and know each other.

euphoria is the type of show that is never going to solve its problems. Nate and Cal are not going anywhere no matter how much they are hated. The girls are never going to escape the cycles they find themselves in. Its just going to be continual trauma until the views go down
Ya, it’s called generational trauma for a reason. And realistically, people don’t solve their trauma on their own and time doesn’t heal all wounds. They would all need to go to therapy but that’s not where this show will give us. There’s gonna be dramaaaaaaaaa
that’s pretty bleak but i’m sure some characters will get a good conclusion as we’ve seen with ali’s character. his life may not be great but he’s fighting for a better one; one with a relationship with his daughters, one with being sober, and just being happy in general. so yeah we’ve already seen a ‘happy ending’, the other characters just need time because, time heals all wounds purr
Speaking from my lived experience as a trans nonbinary/agender person, one thing I like about Jules' arc is that she went from hyper feminine in S1, to exploring why she had to perform femininity in that way to be seen as a girl in her special episode between the seasons, to being more androgynous in her style and what I'm seeing as more true to her fashion sense in S2. Really resonate with that journey
Definitely. In her therapy episode she said that she spent most of her life basing her femininity off of what men thought it meant and that’d probably why she was drawn to both Nate and cal but now that she’s dating a girl and realizing that femininity isn’t built off mens ideals, she’s wearing a binder and figuring out what kind of woman she really is instead of what kind of woman she thinks people want her to be

I said this in a comment in another video, but I think what people forget is that Gia was the one who found Rue overdosed, so it’s completely valid for her to be upset when Rue says that she’s doing drugs again (smoking weed) or even bringing up the idea of doing drugs again; no matter which drugs they are.

More reasons to hate Elliot: while he seems like he does do drugs casually(if that’s even a thing) it’s clear Rue is in it bad, she almost died their first time hanging out, he seemed freaked out by it but then continues to mindlessly enable her. He’s also so messy about her relationship with Jules, he clearly likes Rue and seems to have little boundaries about his feelings and how that effects the both of them. The discourse about Cassie’s actions really bother me, bc it was all funny in episode 1, but the later we go, we literally see her mental health deteriorate in front of our eyes. We’ve seen her have a depressive episode, a manic episode and it’s getting worse, to me it feels like she’s one step away from psychosis and doesn’t seem like she’s gonna get any help.

Everyone wants to talk about Cassie's obvious daddy issues but I like to add on to what you said - she also doesn't have a female rolemodel. Her mom is a mess. When she looked to the other girls for guidance in S1 her problem was quickly forgotten and they focused on petty drama. Cassie doesn't know who she is not who she wants to be, apart from being "someone's".

Her daddy issues might explain why she has such low self-esteem, but that is in now way an excuse for her behavior. She's still her own person and she made her own decisions. I’m nervous for Rue. She’s already digging into her drug stash, and I know she’s not thrifty enough to make up for the ones she’s using. She’s either going to put herself or Fez in danger, and I really feel like he’s going to be dragged into it.
Also as much as Cassie makes me want to hit my head I can’t help but feel sorry for her. Both her and Lexi grew up with an absent father and an emotionally unavailable mother who watches her daughter break down and simply ask about her like she’s asking about a TV show. She’s showing signs of depression and it seems as if her mother ignores it. But again it really disgusts me that she’s spending time with a man who literally abused her best friend. I understand that teen girls are often conditioned to want male approval (Cassie even more so because her father left her) but it’s still really despicable. Like this man choked her and left scars and you’re still chasing after him?

I don’t have a problem with her weight. I personally don’t like her character much, I think it’s the one I relate to the least out of the girls. I think the main thing with Cal is the expectation to feel sorry for him. That's not what I took from his backstory, I think his backstory does explain why he is the person he is but thats not to say his actions are "excusable" cause he didn't get the life he wanted. Cal is an extremely self centred, horrible man and feels justified cause of what he went through and the pretty lights and style of how his past was shot was reflective of the way he looks back at his own past with Derek and not to attempt to justify any of his actions .

I disagree. This was pretty similar to my high school experience (except imagine if rue was at private school but all her friends are at public school, she does and sells drugs during week and on weekends they all party and use together). Also the show doesn’t glorify addiction, in my opinion it shows the whole hook line and sinker tale of how one drug user can have a ripple effect on their friends and family.

Kat does need to break up with Ethan cause she’s unhappy but there is an underlying(?) issue as to why she is; she’s surrounded by toxic relationships and then spent the last year turning herself into a s3x object for men so I think there’s a disconnect in Ethan simple wanting to date her just to date. And I do think the fanfic plays some part into it cause that affects young girls more than people like to think but it’s not the main issue.

I personally enjoyed the backstory bc it shows that as people we all have complexities that contribute to making us who we are. It made me sympathize with a character who truly doesn’t deserve it. I personally love characters with depth and I think it did a great job showing why Nate is the way he is. My bf & I almost cried while watching his backstory bc it was super fucking sad.
His backstory didn’t make me change how I felt about his character, I still think he’s a disgust, but it created this new layer of understanding for me & I thought it was great.
Maybe it’s bc I’m a mental health therapist & I have to provide therapy to shitty people like Cal on a regular basis & sustain judgement, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

i havent seen anyone bring this up but i realized this as i was watching this video: i am annoyed that they made cal's backstory involve him not being straight because it reenforces harmful stereotypes about the lgbtq+ community. cal's character is violent and sexually aggressive, as well him having sex with minors. all of these things are awful homophobic stereotypes to make the community seem 'inhuman' and devalue them. i hate that s*m levinson decided to have a character represent all of those awful ideas...
the backstory was meant to show the cycle of generational trauma. while his actions are unredeemable, cal literally only married marsha just cause she got pregnant, he didnt love her, he doesnt love his kids neither. he’s a closeted gay man who’s trapped and he’s passed his trauma to nate. yes it’s terrible but unfortunately it’s realistic
the only minor he slept with was jules. i wouldn’t call him a pedophile because he didn’t know she was underage

Cal is at least an interesting character (that doesn’t mean he’s a good man, just interesting), and Jules did lie to him about her age. And the next episode is the payoff for his backstory and the confrontation with his family was amazing lol.
I feel like the family dynamics of Rue and Cassie/Lexi are so underrated. I wanna see less of the Jacobs and more of that this season. One of the best moments from season 1 was watching Rue and her family caught in the heat of an argument that's so uncomfortable to watch juxtaposed with them in the car genuinely happy that makes you feel like you're coming up for air. It was so beautifully shot and well acted. My thing with Euphoria is there's some gems in there like that, but there's also so much that I don't care about. I couldn't really get into Cal's backstory either. Like we know by now that hurt people hurt people, but that doesn't justify their actions. We know by now that people aren't born evil, so I just found it all a bit weird and a waste of time like a lot of what Euphoria chooses to focus on and why I also didn't rewatch season 1.
