- Wyze is the most affordable camera companies on the market with 1080p HD video, two-way audio, and awesome infrared night vision. The only issue is that - if you have and use the Wyze Cam V2 or Wyze Cam V3 or the Wyze Cam Pan cams using RTSP with Apple HomeKit Ecosystem - then these cams dont really support HomeKit Secure Video. Thanks to Scrypted lets enable HomeKit Secure Video for these awesome cameras.

Hey Chris. Your welcome. With the Wyze Cam V2 - the option is not available. So long as the camera supports this hardware feature then scrypted will port it to HomeKit

For some reason my version of Scrypted 0.5.11 running on my Synology NAS does not have the HomeKit Secure Video Local Copy listed in extensions. So I am unable to check this box. I was wondering if you have seen this before with using WyzeCam V3. Thanks!

Scrypted is another platform for camera systems that can be installed side by side HOOBS using a Linux command or Docker which I have done a video as well.

Hey Ahmed - Thru Scrypted - you can program automations using a Shell or Java script. Could be complicated. Another alternative which i have done a video on is to use the Camera Ui plugin > Enable HSV for your wyze cams plus configure a save location to your QNAP ... Hey Shawn ... Yes you can setup Scrypted as an independant system and it will work in HomeKit. However if you want to use it on the Pi 3b+ - then you will have perfermance issues

Great video, just one issue, once wyze camera is updated to RTSP firmware, it no longer supports the accessories, I bought a wyze lamp socket and I can no longer pair it with wyze camera
Hey Zhang - the RTSP firmware is only available for Wyze CAM V2 / V3 & Pan ..... for any other accessories you'll need to use their official app support.

Thanks for another great video Eddie. I just setup a Wyze Cam 3 by following your instructions, and got it working in Homekit - except for HKSV. In Scripted for my RTSP Cam device, I don't have an Integrations and Extensions button, it just says Extensions. Not sure if that is significant - might just be a different version of Scrypted??? Anyway, when I click into it, I don't have the HKSV item to check off. Note, my Ring Doorbell DOES have HKSV available in Scrypted, and it works (thanks for that video too!). But I don't have the option for HKSV for my Wyze Cam v3. Any idea how to fix this?
Hello Steve .. There was an update and theres no option any more to enable the HKSV .. its automatic... Once you add the camera enable the streaming and recording option to enable HKSV
@@eddiedsuza Thanks Eddie. I had "Away" setup for Stream and Recording, but I didn't have "Home setup that way (just Stream). I have now set Home TO record as well. No HKSV yet, but I will check later as I assume it might take some time for the hubs and the cloud to adapt to this new setting. Thanks for the reply!. Will let you know.
My wife just triggered a motion event in that camera, and I now have the timeline in the Home app. All good. Thanks so much for your help, and for your great videos.

Eddie, now that I've sorted out my installation issues I discover that current Wyze Cam's no longer allow RTSP activation (and provide the IP's needed) is this true? Appreciate your reply.
Hey Rick .... I know the versions 2 & 3 are still supported by RTSP.

As long as it supports RTSP ... then you can add them.
Since Raspberry pi4 is out of stock almost everywhere? Will this setup work with raspberry pi 3? And will upgrading it to pi4 later on mean i will have to reconfigure everything again? Thank you.
With the pi 3 - you can install the camera ui plugin to get HKSV without burdening the hardware with scrypted. And yes - when you have the Pi4 - you can migrate the configurations.

One question... Do Wyze cameras need internet or any online account to register, activate or attach the cameras to the smart home system/homebridge? the idea is not to depend on internet to use them
Your welcome. Well you will need to do the intial setup thru the Wyze App. Once completed - depending on your model you can then flash the RTSP firmware. After that - you can use it with Homebridge with no issues and also delete the app.

For Eufy cams - if theres an RTSP option available then yes. But i believe Eufy cams are majority cloud based and theres no current option to move away from that

Hey Anton ... you will need a Apple TV or Homepod Mini or an iPad that works as an hub and allows remote access to your devices installed in your home. cheers

Hello and thanks for the videos Eddie, I recently discovered this on and run the RPi4 with Homebridge installed and working wel, but when I attempted to use your magic script it runs but none of of the setups install: docker, portioner or watchtower. They all return: user mod group 'docker' not installed, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello. At about 4:30 into the video you say we need to enable the HomeKit Secure Video Local Copy, that doesn't show up on mine. I have followed your videos. Camera still works and so does HSV. Also, is there a way to set it up so I don't need to have the Wyze app on my phone? When I turn the camera off in the app to try and get HomeKit to control it, the cam won't work.
There has been some updates that now enables the HSV automatically. I uninstalled the Wyze app and the cam still works ... However you do need the app to add the cam to the network

Great tutorial. I've followed this, but my video stream in Scripted for the Wyze camera shows as "Snapshot Failed" What do I need to do to fix this?
Please use VLC player to check if the RTSP link is working and also if the device is powered on.
@@eddiedsuza yes, I used VLC player and the RTSP link works: I can see the live feed of the Wyze camera. But within Scrypted, when I select the camera, I get “Snapshot Failed”
I am having the same issue. My RTSP stream works in the VLC player but not in the RTSP camera plugin. Anyone able to solve this issue?

Thanks for your previous reply. However have you run into only one WyzeCam 3 getting HomeKit Secure Video? I have 3 of them but only one is getting HKSV eveb after upgrading to the 2TB icloud storage plan and restarting everything including AppleTV, Scrypted, etc. Thx
With 50GB - 1 cam / 200GB its 4 cams / 2TB - Its unlimited.

@@eddiedsuza Hi Eddie, I had them streaming but was not getting past motion detections though for the other cams. I think I figured it out though. I set the homehub IP directly to my AppleTV IP address instead of the default option since I have several homehubs. This seemed to do the trick.

Hey Eddie, I followed the video and ended up getting "snapshot failed" when trying to get a live feed from my Wyze V3. I do NOT have a SIM card in it and I dont pay for cam plus or anything like that. Am I missing a few steps or anything? Ive reloaded the plugins and tried numerous times to no avail. Thank you!
Please check the RTSP link in VLC to see if the camera is broadcasting as well as ensure the IP address assigned to the camera is reserved in the routers DHCP settings
Eddie. In HKSV the video clips only lasts 15 seconds, even if the video motion continues. How can i solve this?

I think I love you, lol. Is there a maximum number of cameras that scrypted/HomeKit can run? I use a mix of Ring and Wyze at my main house, and have UniFi Protect cameras at another home, and plan to add some Wyze cams at that location. The 2nd location has its own Home Hub, and will have its own scrypted install.
Also, is there a dedicated 3rd party HomeKit app you like just for cameras? I’m a Hubitat user, everything runs there, and most all the automation is done there, and it’s brought over in HomeBridge. I use HomeKit mainly as a control device from my phone, and pretty much just use the Home Widgets app, and not really the Home app itself. Just not a huge fan of the Home app. If there is a camera app that can do a widget with camera snapshots, that would be awesome.
Also I’m guessing you can use the Home app for camera notifications also. Right now I have Wyze notifications turned off when I’m home, and on when I’m gone, via IFTTT, but I’d love to dump IFTTT completely if I can.
Thanks for the compliment. From what I know there doesnt seem to be a limit on the no. of cameras that can be added to Scyrpted or even HomeKit.
The only alternatives to the Apple Home App which i use is the Eve app so any automation rules i create for devices like my Synology NAS (based on values) appear also within the Home App. Plus with scrytped now - i have enable notifications on my Apple TV based on detections so I also dont open the Home App that frequently. In short - no camera widgets also available.

@@eddiedsuza I went ahead and set up Scyrpted yesterday on a Pi 3b I have that runs my UniFi Controller, it was kinda slow. Instead of buying another Pi, I think I’m just going to bite the bullet and build a home server. I’m thinking a frame.work mainboard in a 3d printed case. I’ve been wanting to start using pfsence, so I think I’ll run that, HomeBridge, Scrypted, and my UniFi controller on it. I’m gonna over kill it, i7-1185G7, 32gb Ram and a 2tb drive. I wish the AppleTV had an HDMI input like the Xbox does. I mainly watch my cable STB, so I can’t get PIP camera notifications. I’ve thought about getting an HDMI switch with PIP support, and plug my STB and a FireStick into it, and have a PIP window pop up from the FireStick when the cameras detect motion.
On a side note, is there away to tie another sensor into a camera in Scrypted? I live in a townhouse, my front porch is about 10’ from the street, so my cameras in the front pickup just about everything, and setting motion zones is kinda pointless. I have a beam sensor connected to a z-wave door contact sensor at the start of my walk way, so that if someone comes towards my door, it triggers a notification when they break the beam. If I could use that to trigger the camera to detect “motion” that would be awesome. I think after starting this path in March 2018, I am finally going to have my SmartHome where I want it.
Using a 3b+ with Scrypted & the unifi controller - it will slow down .... thats why i started recommending at a minimum the pi 4 with 2GB.
Thru scrypted - you can only enable the sensor that the camera comes with. You will not be able to enable sensors but you can use a dummy switch to enable actions based on some trigger. you may want to try that out (homebridge dummy plugin)

Can you list some major differences between using home bridge to connect camera vs scrypted?
The only notiable difference is that cameras load quicker and scrypted is basically a dedicated system for Cameras and NVRs

I just installed the latest Scrypted in a docker on a Linux system separate from my Homebridge Pi. The latest version has some differences from when you did the video.
Under extensions, I don't see HomeKit Secure Video, although I think I followed all your settings.
When I attempt to add the camera, Home recognizes the device as a camera, but then fails, saying, "Accessory Already in Another Home". Any idea what may be going on?
HSV is enabled automatically. Try reloading or resetting the pairing code to add to apple home
If you are running via docker - you’ll need to use watchtower or manually pull an image

Hi Eddie - in 2023 the scrypted menu looks a bit different. I have my camera working on Homekit and I turned off my Cam Plus notifications on the Wyze and also tried having them on - the two things that are not working is I have it set to stream and record but (1) not getting any recordings and (2) not getting any notifications from Homekit when I walk in front of the camera. Homekit does warn that if the camera can record through its own system the recording will go there. How do I get notifications to work and recording to happen through homekit? What do I need to turn off on Wyze to get it to show up in Homekit? Thank you.
Nevermind - got it to work - I think it was due to adding the camera to the ffmpeg plug in on Scrypted - the user name and password for the RTSP camera firmware for the Wyze V3 - got a notification on my watch

Unfortunately not as it connects to the base station and does not support RTSP. However you can try out this plugin www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-wyze-smart-home (may support the device)

I am having issues with getting feed (snapshot) to load. It just says snapshot failed. I followed all the setting instruction. But on the last step in extension I am not showing HomeKit Secure Video Local Copy option. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong? The camera shows in my home app but says snapshot failed also.

What type of orange pie should I buy
When buying single board computers (SBC) - you want to purchase atleast with 1GB ram to run homebridge. If you'd like to use other applications - then you need to buy a quad core / 4 GB ram. I dont have a orange Pi SBC to recommend.
The raspberry pi b+ costs too much is there a cheaper alternative

Hey!!!! Im having problems setting up my wyze v2 cams, i have 4 of them, and it take 94% of the CPU and then the rapsberry chrash, i discover that if i turn off the "PAM Diff Motion Detection" the CPU just consume 12%, What could be wrong? HELP Please :-)

Its now automatic... Make sure you have enabled streaming and recording plus a Apple TV or an ipad that works as a hub.

How will I get sonof zigbee dongle to work with the NAS? I hope I can find a good tutorial on how to set up docker and homebridge on the NAS that is t out of date

The talk back feature does not work but the inbuilt microphone does pick up audio.

One thing not covered in your video was if there is a video delay and how long it is.
The apple home app updates the snapshots every 10 seconds which is the default value

Hi Brandon ... Am not sure if HOOBS supports HomeKit Secure Video however this video is done by using another piece of open source software called Scrypted which you will need to install on your Pi or NAS or MAC.

Every time when I turn off my computer my camera doesn’t work in the HomeKit app is there any way to fix this?
If scrypted is installed on that computer - then it needs to run 24/07 to work in homekit.

That's a really cool integration!
As for the video, it would be another 25%+ better without constant visual noise about liking and subscribing obstructing the bottom right corner of your frame, where your way of recording actually places things we want to see like screen captures of what you do in the Home app. (That recurring noise alone makes me opt NOT to subscribe, as it'd annoy me every subsequent video you post.)
