I found that for HKSV, it is better to leave the following Camera UI stream configuration parameters blank - max width, max height, max framerate, max bitrate. Then the parameters will default to whatever is requested by Homekit. This resolved the problems I had with Hikvision ip cameras
Thanks for the Tip & Pinning Your Comment
I want to say thank you. We just built our dream home. I went full HomeKit smart home. One exception was the generic ip cameras my networker used. I tried for weeks to integrate them until I found this video. Works flawlessly now. Thank you. Earned a sub from me!!!

Another great video Eddie. Any tips on setting this up through HOOBs instead of Homebrige? I'm having trouble setting it up
Hey Joey - I,ll need to flash and setup HOOBS to test the plugin - will need sometime. However, for HSV to work - at its heart HOOBS must use Homebridge 1.4.0 - if not HSV will not work. Another issue with HOOBS is the files structure of the system - plugins like these strictly follow the Homebridge documentation. I found one closed issue in Github that has a HOOBS user successfully installing it - github.com/seydx/homebridge-camera-ui/issues/116
Please give it a try and open an issue with HOOBS to get the plugin to work with its system.
Awesome Video, Eddie!! Just a few questions, if I want to use my NVR would I still keep the settings the same in terms of the HKSV? Also for the resolution if I want to have everything save to the NVR would I just keep it at the 4k or 1080p as is? Thank you again!
You can standardize it as 1080p across the board that is NVR as well as HSV. If you do it on the NVR level - the 1080p stream is transported natively to HSV with no more processing required. I have been doing that for my customers = 1080p at NVR level
So this is very cool. Insulation configuration was pretty straightforward. Thanks to your video. The problem I have though is it seems to miss a lot of recordings. It’s really to the point that I could see myself on the live feed and it’s simply just doesn’t record it. I’m seeing this across multiple cameras. Is there anything I could do to make it better or more reliable. I was using scripted, but for some reason, it has an incredible high usage rate of resources.
All you can is restart the plugin or restart the Apple home hubs. It’s an Apple feature for HKSV to work within Apple home app.
Thanks Eddie for the great tutorial, is it possible with camera UI to run automation based on motion detection from WYZE cam?!
Through the camera UI - you can only automate the recordings based on Type & Time. However from Homkit - I was able to finally automate scenes using the sensor built into the Wyze Cam. Its better to create the automation witin HomeKit. Cheers
Great video!
Can you share the Wyze Can 2 configuration (video source) that you used?
Yes I can. I used this one sunoo.github.io/homebridge-camera-ffmpeg/configs/Wyze-Cam-v2-and-Pan.html
Hey Eddie, your videos have been really helpful! I was wondering if you have ever run into a situation like I am experiencing? My wyze cameras work in the camera.ui interface but the stream doesn’t work in the homebridge preview window or in HomeKit. Logs say the connection is successful and sending data but the video never comes through and then forces the stream to quit.
Hello Ryan ... Please check the stream link via VLC so as to confirm the stream broadcasts with no issue. And also the video configuration - must be between the range of 1980 x 1080
Would be interested in doing this with Scripted, but thanks for this content.
Your Welcome. Cheers

first of all, great and easy to understandable videos. Thx
I do have a problem with my Tapo C320WS to get broadcasted to camera.ui oder any other plugin in homebridge. RTSP works and got tested with vlc succesfully. Unfortunately I dont't get the rtsp-stream in camera.ui and therefore in homebridge.

This was great for my Wyze cams! Thanks! Will it work with the old spy ip cams that used the now “nonexistent “ bvcam app?

Hi Eddie, many thanx for your awesome work and help you give to us. I have an issue with one of my ezviz camera that i don't know how to resolve. Can you help me? i've 2 ezviz c6n correctly working on homebridge with ezviz plugin, i've installed a new c1c-b with same configuration of the others one. in Home app i see the snapshot but when i go to stream the new camera it goes offline, and homebridge report this: [EZVIZ] STREAM: To ignore this, add a trailing '?' to the map.
i don't know how does it mean.
Thanx for all and to waste your time. Best regards from Italy.
Hello Andy ... please use this website www.ispyconnect.com/camera/ezviz to firstly search for *c1c* and wil see that there are many models that have multiple protocols & path. Please generate a new RTSP link and then use VLC player to test it - to check if the stream works. Thats the way i would do it.
If you have an NVR and wondering how to get the rtsp. There is a direct route to the camera through the NVR and you can find it for your particular NVR by searching for rtsp address for your particular brand NVR. It took quite a bit of research and reading to finally get the rtsp address for my cameras, but once I had that it was smooth sailing....not really. You still need to make sure your homebridge version and the node.jsn is up to date enough to handle camera ui (this was a lot more complicated than just updating). Lots of great tutorials in the homebridge community forum.
If you have a uniview dvr here is the rtsp address: •NVR: rtsp:// [USER] : [PASS] @ [ADDRESS] : [RTSP PORT] /unicast/c [CH] /s[STREAM TYPE]/live.
Example: rtsp://admin:123456@192.168.1.180:540/unicast/c3/s1/live
Where: Address=nvr address on your network, rtsp port is in the network info of your nvr, CH is the number of the camera on your nvr, Stream type is just a number referrering to your main stream (1) or your sub stream (2).
Note: Eddie says to enter the info into the stream config- stream source as rtsp_transport tcp -I (rtsp address). That did not work for me unfortunately. I used the template the app suggested which was just -I (rtsp address). Without the stuff at the beginning.
Thanks for the tip .. Cheers

Now I can keep an eye on my dogs in the backyard 2 Qs: 1) do you know if Wyze v3 Pro supports the RTSP demo firmware? 2) I can hear through the mic on the camera in the Home app, but I’m not getting the mic button to send audio through the camera speaker in the Home app. Good news is that function works normally in the Wyze app
Hello Don .. Glad to know you got them working. Well the Wyze cams dont have talk back. And currently does not support the pro versions due to lack of RTSP support. Cheers
@@eddiedsuza again, thanks for all the help I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “talk back”. I set up my v3 (not Pro) with both Wyze’s app and Homebridge. In the Wyze app, there’s a mic button I can use, and audio that I speak
Into the phone plays on the speaker of the camera. Confuses my dogs to no end! Just curious if there’s a way to get that function to work with Homebridge and Homebridge camera ui plug in. If not, no worries!

Hi Eddie, I have the homebridge installed and rstp setup for my Wyze cam years ago. I’ve watched your couple of videos and it seems that you used different kinds of plugins/software to enable the homekit secure video for Wyze cam. Can you tell me what’s the best plug-in to use for Wyze as of now? Is it cameraUI? Thanks in advance!
Hello Robin ... yes via the camera ui plugin ...

Hey Eddie, I swear I could not have done this without you. I fiddled a lot with FFmpeg and cameras-ui with no use, till I found this video and made my life a whole lot easier. So thank you for that and everything else you do on your channel to help us out.
However, since I set up the 4 ip cams I have at my home I noticed that my cpu temps are over the roof (+80c) and the CPU load is at +90%. I tried to disable pre-buffering hoping that this will not overwhelm the computer every time I open up the home app on my phone but still..
Is there anything you recommend? And since that I have committed to migrating most of my smart devices to homebridge/homekit, do you recommend that I upgrade to a Raspberry Pi 4?
Note: I am currently running a Raspberry Pi 3 B+, which begs my question (Is it gonna make a big difference to upgrade?)
Much appreciated pal, cheers 🍻
Hey Abdulaziz - Thanks for the compliment ...
And its high time you move forward with the base version of Pi 4 or higher ... I recommend the 4 GB variant. It just works with whatever you throw at it.

Great video but I fall at the first hurdle (not using an RTSP broadcast). I'm currently using Apple's HomeKit simulator to simulate a security camera running an old USB webcam which adds directly into HomeKit, but it doesn't use Secure Video. Possibly this is as I'm running it on High Sierra, so getting this running instead via RTSP would be useful.. but am unsure of how to broadcast the webcam feed via RTSP - any ideas or recommendations?? I should then be able to follow the rest of the tutorial... :D
I should elaborate a little - removing the simulator is the best option but I don't know the process to find the right device for the external webcam ( ls -l /dev doesn't give a video result) so using something like VLC which needs the device name to start the RTSP broadcast. Any thoughts to broadcast a regular wired USB webcam via RTSP? Thanks...!
Hi pete - i found this to enable RTSP for USB cams (never knew it was possible) - datarhei.github.io/restreamer/docs/guides-usb-camera.html
@@eddiedsuza great thanks - just managed to get it running on my local Mac but will check it out with the system at home when I get back. I'd heard about restreamer before but for some reason didn't check it. Will report back :)
@@eddiedsuza argh... seems like the usb cam only works with the linux docker image and not osx so it's not appearing. I could use OBS to stream it to restreamer but that would put a heavy load on the system and consume a lot of power...

Eddie, one more question on Camera UI and HSV if I may ? when I add several cameras, my CPU usages maxes out pretty fast at over 90% .... is there a way to reduce CPU load ? Any suggestions ?
Do we have to leave "video analysis" active checked in order to have motion detection or can I uncheck that ? would that reduce CPU load ?
Should I set up a lower resolution video for the motion detection in the "video substream" ? If you confirm that would help with CPU, I am really not sure how to do that. Would you know where I can find a tutorial on how to do that ?
The CPU & camera usage goes up to keep in line with Apple HomeKit Secure video requirements - that is take and record a snapshot. This needs some processing by the Pi instead of the camera.

Wow, you’re awesome; sub’d for sure. Question: What if when adding to Homekit (as you describe near end of video), it says “This accessory has not been certified to work with HomeKit, so some features may not be available.”? It does not give the option to stream and record for me. I just did this, so maybe Apple figured out how to prevent recording from Hoobs/FFmpeg bridge?
The VLC media player was the breakthrough point for me. It allowed me to make sure I had the network stream dialed-in first. Much appreciated.
HA! I’m a moron. The entire purpose of this video is to use Camera UI instead of FFmpeg for this exact reason! I was so excited about gettin the video to work, I skipped around and missed it. thanks!!
Camera UI didn’t work either for Recording in homekit. I’ll keep watching!
HSV Support (HomeKit Secure Video) is key.
So, there is not a “Visual” setting for HSV. I went into the script and changed the “hsv”: to true from false. I also completely uninstalled the mmpeg Plugin. I then connected to the bridge which identified the camera in homekit. Works perfectly! If I wasn’t a noob on hoob, this would have gone faster than 40 minutes. Your video is by far the best on youtube! Thank you!
Is the rtsp_transport needed? And what’s the benefit of using that stream?
Its an additional configuration and its not needed as the rtsp_transport was added in the video stream plus it tells the plugin that the video link is using the real time transport protocol (RTSP) to decode the feed. Cheers
Hello , I'm having a trouble getting my Eufy SoloCam E40 stream to work. The stream generator didn't provide a correct link. Any suggestions
Hey Jason - is the username / password correct and I would use the options from other models mentioned in this link www.ispyconnect.com/camera/eufy
Hi Eddie! I've been following your videos for a while now, keep it up! I am trying to add 4x Yale CCTV Cameras but they lag and freeze up in stream... I tried lowering the resolution but then the CPU usage was crazy high (I think because it was converting the input with FFMPEG) and would only run two cameras at a time with the others not responding.... I then set everything to 0 to stream the original video feed but now it only updates the picture every 20-30 seconds on the Home App, any suggestions would be highly appreciated :D
Please try using a 1080p resolution (which is default in the config) secondly you want to test the RTSP link using the VLC player to ensure the cameras are real time transporting over your network.
@@eddiedsuza thank you! I’ll try this.
@@eddiedsuza I got it running! I fixed it by turning off video analysis and motion sensors in Homebridge which I didn’t really need. All 4 Camera’s now run on Home-bridge using about 20% of the cpu and smoothly. Thank you for your help.

hey Eddie u have any idea why I am keep getting this error message ( DDE6] The image snapshot handler for the given accessory is slow to respond!)
Please try using the VLC to access the camera feed. This checks if your RTSP link is correct. If it works fine ... then ignore the error.
Hi Eddie,
I did not see in your video if we should select the option "video Analysis" because when I do everything goes fine with the recording, when this is not selected, the recorded from HSV does not work.. it is something related?
Hello Ivan ... I didnt select that. I just enabled the HSV option and it works

Hey, I have got a Trolink camera with no name, it connects to Tuya App, and I can access the RSTP stream, But the sound doesn't work, I have look everywhere for many years, but I don't know how to access it besides the tuya app u.u. Do you know something I can do about it?
Hello Giovanni - may be the camera doesnt support Audio and if the Tuya app does allow it - then it seems the RTSP link is limited with video broadcast only.
Hi Eddie
Thanks for your sharing. I have some issue. My all camera appear in My Apple Home in same network, But I using mobile data when I haven't at home the all camera are No Response. Have a some sloving the problem?
Thanks
You will need a Apple Home Hub such as a Apple TV or HomePod or mini to access your cameras using your celullar conenctivity.

Good morning Eddie .. My IP camera is H.265 and i don’t see any option to change it to H.264. would it still work for scrypted ? thanks for your help
For Homekit - the option is H264 & 1080p quality
Thanks for the video, One question im running my cameras through NVR system brand by Dahua and i done the steps to configure the camera ui once it is done it is only showing the first camera only. later i tried to add by the camera IP it self and it functioning in the camera ui interface but in the prebuffering showing invalid for the second cam the first one which has been used the IP of the NVR working fine Valid so what is the best option to configure. and sorry for the long question im new to this world and im trying to learn. thanks again
I found the issue i logged in for each camera individually and adjusted the settings now all cameras working in Homekit app, I noticed if i add the camera in the camera ui it transfer direct to homekit. thanks for your videos

Yes it is possible ... Add the RTSP link here and will show you on how it can be done or send the NVR you are trying to expose

I can't add my Wyze Cam v3 because I think there is an issue with my credentials. The wizard asks for a username, but Wyze uses an email to log in. So how did you configure your login info in the wizard?
You have the create the RTSP credentials within the advanced section. refer to this video - ua-cam.com/video/jURs95pQzms/v-deo.html
I am having trouble getting HomeKit notifications through Camera UI what could I be missing, I'm using an eufy outdoor cam pro
Within Apple Home app > Go to Home Settings > Cameras & Doorbells > Select the camera & enable Acitivity Notifications
I got an authorization failed though I did every step you mentioned here for the Amcrest.
You'll need to check the username and password to access the camera feed via VLC ... If no video loads - check also the assigned IP address
Got it to finally work. Thanks.

Hello Sir.. Can Tuya Smart Camera integrate with Homebridge?
Well if it uses RTSP - Then yes

Unfortunately not cause its not assigned a IP address from your Router. This video is applicatble for Cameras that broadcast over the network

I apologize for being vague in my question. In fact, I'm looking for the RTSP URL of my camera. I can't find it anywhere on the internet. I have 10 cameras of the Hamell brand, model: HW-RH59M. I also read on forums that it was possible to search for the RTSP link using something like Wireshark, but I tried without success. My DVR is connected to my router (JFEYE brand DVR), and I can view my cameras with 4G or Wi-Fi using the JFeye mobile application. I really appreciate it if you can give me an idea of how to find the RTSP link.

Hi Eddie, do you know why my cameras work on Scrypted and not on Camera UI?
Philip this is definitely got to do with configuration and also on what device you are running the camera ui plugin. If its a Mac then you will have an issue with ffmpeg which needs to be mapped to your homebridge install
Please provide the website you used for Generic IP Camera configuration

Hey man! Trying to follow this tutorial but my cameras actually have a password. When I use ONVIF device manager to see the cameras, the user is admin and the password is one that I set. How can I input these into camera.ui?
Based on the camera model. Use the site to generate the rtsp link www.ispyconnect.com/cameras which includes the IP address as well as the username & password. Then use that generated link in the camera ui config.
I was able to add cameras however on homekit, when you open camera, it is not able to play livestream.
Hey Sanjay - please check the logs - if there are any errors or kill the Home app and load again.
Thanks that worked. I also enabled recordings however they are not working at all.
Apparently there is a problem with Camera.UI and homebridge, I got "Error: EACCES: permission denied, mkdir '/homebridge'" and it reboots itself. The directory already exists and the rights are correct... There are more people with this problem in internet. Any solution ?
