I love the attention to detail in this quest too. It doesn’t just send you to your racial starting zone. If you are any hero class it will send you to that starting zone instead.
I think I boosted my death knight initially because when I did this part of the quest, it let me accept the first quest given by the lich king. Since the first quest has the Lich King read out the quest text, after being sent back to normal I still had the lich king talking to me for about a minute lol

They even replaced the map names with murloc sounds when you're in there, it's glorious, and Thrallgrulgulgul, Finduin Wryngrrlgulgll, then just "Captain" Cookie with his normal name.

Gosh, wouldn't it be wild if you talked to him and he was the one npc with different dialogue? Like he just... knew? By the way you carry yourself like a master rather than a disciple, by how your eyes give away that you've seen so much more than the student he knows? And he tells you he's proud of you. ...and then you get yanked back to the present. Edit: NO I'M NOT CRYING
best part of this joke is you get the open scene based on your race AND the date your character was originally made, that and you get to wander around pretty good before he forces you back. can even use the vendors if any near you.
I was playing a Dark Ranger, and in my headcanon she wasn't sent back to the Belf startzone, because that's not where she got her start--she was sent back before the Fall of Quel'thalas, and that girl BOOKED it to try to stop Arthas lmfao Dude basically had to carry her back through the time portal under one arm like an angry cat
This was better for me on a Human since it was right after the voice actor for the Vanilla, BC, WrathDK, and Cata starting zones died, so I got sent back to hear him again. Pandaren and allied races didn't get that.
I did this quest line first on my main which is a human paladin I made when I was 13 back in 2008 and my heart literally skipped a beat when I saw Northshire abbey.
I remember doing this quest on a character that was race changed from a human to a Draenei. Still teleported to the Draenei starting zone, but I think it would’ve been insane if it teleported her to the one she actually leveled in loll

Being sent back to Gilneas as a worgen was pleasantly surprising. I thought it was funny being sent back to the starting zone, oh and the Murloc timeline. Finduin xD
This happened to me on my human, I got ported back to northshire. What made it simply hilarious was I happened to spawn in right as someone else had made a new toon. I had my high lvl gear on and the other person turned and kept looking at me, then the dragon flight npc… I really wish I knew what was going through his head when he saw all this going down 😆
I returned for Shadowlands after quitting at the end of MOP. (and haven't bought Dragonflight) I hope that was as big a nostalgia bomb for you as it was for me. MoP was an amazing expansion and people who hate it for the Pandarens don't know what they were missing.
For real! MOP was probably the best time to play any class. Everything felt powerful for the most part, and the story wasn't half bad. The environments were beautiful. I met a lot of my current online friends throughout that expac.
MoP is my favourite expansion, bar none. I love the aesthetics, I love the Pandaren (how can you not love a bunch of foodies who live life to the fullest in every way?) , I love the culture and mysticism it introduced... It also made me happy how my precious Tauren got a bit of characterization love, in the "Family Tree" quest. Tauren are the only ones Lorewalker Cho actually expresses a kinship with; which I think is awesome.
I played as an evoker for the beta and thought this was a hint at a quest chain to come where time travel would be used to learn the dracthyr origins. Playing my dwarf shaman main on the live game told me I was wrong
Was this the questline that introduces Azmerloth? God, I enjoyed that so much. Just running around looking at all the murloc'd lore characters, haha. I think it was doubly funny, because Azmerloth was only created in the timelines because of the giant murloc that went into the portal. I assume he arrived in the beginning of that timeline and created Azmerloth on his own. 🤣

17 years and still no new hairstyles. Can't even have the ones Lightforged got even though they use the same skeleton. Nothing was lost.

I love that later in the quest line it sends you to Northrend but everyone is Murlocs and they follow it up in the time rift storyline.

When I did this on my death knight I thought it would take me to the death knight starting zone. It did not. Just the human starting zone.
