The nice thing about these videos is that the normal working man can recognize themselves in them. You buy the cars that we all secretly want to buy, but often don't dare to take the risk. I've been following you since the Z4 and these videos about (older) cars remain the most fun and appealing. Greetings from the Netherlands (Oh and ofcourse I like the Porsche)

Owned a 2004 Cayenne S for 10 years and purchased in 2012 for $10,000 in the 10 years of ownership I spent $ 14,000 in repairs and put approximately 96,000 miles on it and had 145,000 miles on the clock. You will have to replace the gas struts for the rear gate every 3 years, the drive shaft will need to be repaired every 60,000 miles - headlights also a problem. Water pump and valve cover gaskets everything seems to go after 10 to 12 years. Not bad to work on would advise getting a Durametric diagnostic unit if you plan on doing all your own repairs. Loved the vehicle just not the parts cost.

Looks awesome mate, I think it’s any car enthusiasts dream to have a car with a Porsche badge on the bonnet😎
It looks like you’ve got a great example there, I think silver suits the Cayenne, it’s a classy colour, for a classy car. I’ve had silver cars for the last 10 years, they look lovely in the summer time when cleaned and polished up, and in the winter time they hide the dirt well! And any scratches etc are invisible unless you get close up.
If the garage health check goes well, I would look at sorting the things like the rear wiper etc, and get a full detail done on it, those scratches at the top of the doors will polish out, and get the wheels refurbed, I saw a few bits of damage. Overall cracking car that looks the part, sounds the part, and as a bonus it’s practical aswell.
Hopefully you have good luck with this car, from what I can see, and what you’ve said, everything is pointing towards it being a good example 👍🏻

I think you can really modernise a car with a few little touches. I had an 09 golf having stepped down from a brand new lease Astra and the aftermarket head unit with CarPlay just didn’t make it seem like it was a much older car (although it was). I think executed correctly it can really enhance an old car.

I've always thought replacement infotainment units are a good idea. Sure, cheap ones can be hot garbage, but a decent one can give a car from the 00's/10's all the mod-cons you find in a brand new car. And it's relative easy to find model-specific ones. I generally think car design peaked in that 15 year period in terms of styling and so being able to add that modern convenience is just a win all round.
And sometimes that common colour/engine combo you'd normally avoid can be the most novel one to buy. And a basic, well maintained car is going to be more enjoyable than a more special version that's got tons of deferred and late maintenance, so hopefully the Cayenne will scratch that itch nicely for you.

Great video Joel, I can relate to the ride quality issue, I had a 2018 3.0 Diesel (Platinum Edition) on 21 inch wheels, looked great but ride was poor (with hindsight my fault as I think the one I test drove had air suspension and ride was fine). Handed it back after 3 years when PCP balloon payment was due and whatever I buy now will have 19 inch wheels at most. Good luck with the ownership experience.

I'd love to see the long term report on this V6 and then perhaps the same on a V8 version of the same age at a later date. This is a car i used to dislike and now i would quite fancy owning, if the repair costs are not too scary. I dont mind high fuel costs as that is predictable. Its the mechanical and electical "surprises" that frighten me.
I would really like to try one of these and look forward to future reviews.

Great job, Joel. I’m a Range Rover fan, but really good to see a different car on the fleet, and see how you get on with it. Looking forward to the next instalment!

Yep. The rear lights are my favourite part, I love them and that’s why I didn’t want a facelift. Can’t explain why though!

I would of gone for a l322 4.2 supercharged with Black interior which in my opinion is the best colour!

Nice car! I used to want one of these! I’ve recently got a similar age Range Rover sport and like you I generally don’t like my cars to be messed with with aftermarket parts (I don’t mind rear tints for me they are a must just not too dark) but I’ve gotta say… I miss having a built in up to date sat nav, and phone connectivity and I found myself looking at aftermarket head units so I can have the same features that are in my i3. I do think I’ll end up installing an aftermarket unit like yours.

I love it! Get that handbrake fixed, every time you use park as a brake you are damaging your transmission.
Also, hard ride contributed by 20” wheels and lack of tyre taking absorption.
Air suspension costs a fortune to fix and bursts airbags or blows compressors.

I had exactly those same marks on my old car. Also silver. Definitely from driving down a prickly bush lane or driveway. You can get it out easily enough with a wet sanding if it’s not too deep. Cheap enough to wet sand and re lacquer it too

Cayenne's have been my guilty pleasure for years but I've never been brave enough to buy one. I've always been concerned with the repair costs and if the 3.2 would be enough as it's a big car.
I will follow this series with interest.

It's a fantastic car. I also own a Cayenne. Mine is an S 4.5 V8. I bought for 2k at 126k miles. I've always bought newer cars but I'm in love with this cayenne. So much car for little money. Might want to convert it into LPG see if that saves you some trips to the petrol station.

Congrats Joel! I recently bought a Cayenne 958 2012 diesel which I love. Would be happy for you to drive to compare the generations :) At the time I was considering the original model you bought as i really think they are coming into their own now and have all the potential to be a future clasic. look forward to more updates on this. Looks cracking in silver, my turbo S gets 15-26mpg depending on usage, I considering the 3.2 but as the fuel economy was similarly woeful I decided that having 521 bhp and poor economy made sense 😁It's great off road too.

@@itsjoel Between the 4.5 s and the 3.2 I think you made the right choice. The only major issue on that engine is the timing chain. The turbo would make a fun upgrade down the line, you’re more than welcome to try mine out if you fancy.
