Never had this before until recently. Did 100 push ups a day for 2 months. No issue. Joined football and lifted for about 5 months. No issue. Took a few months off. When I started push-ups again, towards the end of my first set I could feel something roll over and sometimes even a mini snap sound. No pain at all but just don’t want it to become problematic if I push through. It’s also annoying. Any tips???
I understand not wanting it to become more. Sounds like it might have been something that's developed over time and relates to the mechanics of your arms. Things I would be looking at... scapular position/stability, shoulder rotation, elbow and wrist rotation. If you want you can DM me an example of your push-ups on Instagram. I'd be happy to take a look and see if anything stands out (@jacksantorafitness)
Hi Jack, appreciate the video. Can i ask you a question ? Currently the moment i pull myself up on the pullup bar i start going down but my elbow feels like it is locking up when trying to go past the middle and it hurts, there is some big tension. It feels like a tendon is stuck or something. I can extend my arm when it is not tense but i can't do it when going down from a pullup or up from a pushup. My elbows have always cracked, my right one more severely, i play tennis as well. What could this be ? I am going to a physio soon but can you please tell me what you think, just worried. Thank you for the video !
Both elbows have been doing this for years. They snap on every rep of overhead press and most of the time during dumbbell press, but it doesn't hurt. My left does hurt if I let it snap on tricep isolation exercises though, I've been training around it by keeping to the bottom half of the movement. Will try these exercises to see if it helps. Never had tingling in my fingers until I heard it could be a nerve issue, but I'm super susceptible to suggestion like that so I figure it's just my body freaking out cause my brain is freaking out.
Definitely give these a try and let me know how they go for you. If you'd like to do some more troubleshooting with me feel free to shoot me a DM on IG (@jacksantorafitness)
If you have something this severe (not just uncomfortable but painful) and are hoping to find a solution to a problem this severe on UA-cam then you’re an idiot.
Thank you for the video. I get snappy elbow but also get a "crunchy" noise when I rotate my elbow joint, also the crunchy noise happens when I do puish-ups. would this also help with this issue?
This is why I say it sounds like it's more mechanical or possibly even tension related if it appears as the reps go on. It sounds like your tendon or ulnar nerve but also like your asymptomatic otherwise.
The first exercise really aggravated the nerve I think. I did it without a band and it still left my hand very numb and my elbow in more pain. I stopped here. Massage is painful also.
If you find they provide temporary relief then sure, but I would also suggest going after the mobility issues that are occurring along your arm from wrist to shoulder. Those will be the long term solution.
The resistance band work and mobility flossing can be done daily. You may need to give a day in between on the triceps smash and extensions to allow tissue recovery.
Ive had this issue in both arms for almost 2 years. I tried these and second session in, occasionally my right elbow doesnt snap. Thanks so much, it seems to be improving!
@@wesley.steves Still snapping but it's not as bad as it used to be. Almost as if the tendon is looser when it goes around. Sometimes my right doesn't snap at all for a little bit though.
It's snapping that is painful and usually does come with ulnar nerve symptoms. So if you're experiencing any numbness or tingling in your middle, ring, and pinky finger and you have popping also that might be an indicator.
I was never diagnosed with snapping triceps syndrome but did have snapping/popping at my elbows occurring and pain at the medial elbow which has been resolved now.

Bro during workout how to avoid this snapping, well don't have this but sometimes at some Angle it happens, I don't want to get injured,so started with low weight
The angle can definitely play a role in whether or not it occurs. If you'd like to troubleshoot it a bit more specifically shoot me a DM on IG (@jacksantorafitness) and I'd be happy to talk through it with you
That tendon didn't always snap. That's something that develops over time with poor mechanics and function of the tissues. Here we're working on restoring both through each of these so the soft tissues glide better and the system of the arm mechanically functions better.
Play with the angles that you do exercises with. Avoid the ones that snap your nerve hard and try to find exercises that do it less or not at all. I can do a dumbell bench press if I rotate my hands vertically (parallel) when next to my chest, and then gradually put them horizontal (perpendicular) to my chest when I push up. After doing this and other exercises that create a full program for 8 months I noticed that my snapping has been very manageble. It seems that doing exercise and growing muscle forced my ulnar nerve to stay in place during exercise. (or something, I dont really know) Mind you, I can still snap the nerve with specific exercises, but it is less. After having done a workout it even disappears when I am still pumped and I am able to do pushups, which I am usually not able to do at all.
I'm sorry to hear that it's been something you've been struggling with for that long now. Can I ask a few questions on Instagram to see what value or help I can give? My handle is @jacksantorafitness if you'd like
