Damn. Didn't know they had this in their quiver even before I started listening as a teen. Nana, Lyle, here's to ya. Life is finite. Thanks for making a part of mine memorable.
Holy crap - great performance from 7 years before its release on Letter from Home! Lyle with the solo improvising unisons on two keyboards at once - wow.
Wow! This is just Fantastic to hear... because he didn't record this until 1989 on Letter From Home. Awesome to hear it in the context of his playing in 1981. It just goes to show that some musicians' compositions are TIMELESS!! Thank you!!
I remember this show, I missed it but a friend of mine was there. I caught the PMG from this tour later in the Fall that year in Detroit. This lineup was truly remarkable and it was the best show I have ever seen Metheny play. I got to meet him, Lyle and Nana before the show.
Daaamn - had absolutely NO idea this gem originated that far back! Truth be told, I prefer the studio version from Letter From Home, but this is still phenomenal! One of MANY favorite Metheny and Co. pieces.
I wonder why they took that one down, and not the others. That song at that concert made a Lyle Mays fan out of me. After they play Offramp, before he plays the next song, a guy in the audience yells, "Play it weird!" That's me.
How fortunate are we to have been in the time of Lyle Mays?

Lyle Mays Rest In Peace ❤️
1953-2020
Beautiful improvisation from Lyle Mays.. RIP
RIP Lyle and Nana. I was fortunate to see this same lineup in 1982!! This brings back lots of smiles!!

Brilliant Most (good latin) jazz is timeless.
YES! at first I thought it was a mistake, lol. Then this could be the primigenious vesion, fantastic
Isn't this really significant because it features an actual "quasi" synthesizer solo from Lyle? A hybrid of sorts

Beatiful song. Anyway, I enjoy the same song with Pedro Aznar singing.
This is beyond beauty.

@@hankluvsdagny UA-cam is beyond arbitrary. I stopped trying to make sense of anything.
@@hankluvsdagny And did they indeed play it weird, sir?
@@mrbulkyc1 Hi sir, just wanna ask if you have the recording of James at some other platforms? Would love to have a listen to it.
¡Qué rico!
Sounds like Egan on bass.
look close, it's Steve
Pat Metheny was 27 years old on this video ... so young :-)
Lyle. Would have been 26.
@@markdavid3076 Uh wrong way; 28.
