  • Diving into the grid of 12 knobs known as Step Programmable Paramaters. An alternate title would be 'Sound Design on the Volca Sample'.
This is a LOOOOOONG video, it is OK to watch it in shorter chunks! The video is divided into three main sections:
    0:45 to 12:56 - Sample Row
    12:57 to 19:26 - Pitch Row
    19:27 to 25:40 - Amp Row
If you want to skip to a particular knob function, here's a list:
    1:10 - Sample Selector
1:20 - Start Point and Length
    9:02 - Hi Cut
13:00 - Speed (also see 35:25 for adjusting Speed by semitones, which is useful for melodies)
    14:19 - EG INT
16:29 - Pitch Attack and Decay
    19:31 - Level
    20:28 - Pan
21:34 - Amp Attack and Decay
One of the most powerful aspects of the Volca series is Motion Sequencing, which allows you to record and play back knob movements in real time
    28:26 - Motion Sequencing

Just got my Volca Sample 2 today! This is the best video series in explaining the machine. Helps me a lot to get the hang of it!

O man, thanks again! Slowly levelling up the creative potentials here. Now if only I could easily get samples onto this gd thing, it's excruciating.

It is a pain for sure, but once you get it working it should work for years to come. If you have the V1, Pajen has published his list of troubleshooting tips for loading samples and firmware: www.reddit.com/r/volcas/comments/h120n0/problems_with_volca_sample_data_transfer_im_here/
If you have the V2 then that doesn't apply, it should all be handled by the KORG librarian software, but that has its own bugginess too. This video covers a common issue with the KORG MIDI driver on Windows:

Superb tuto series, man. Applies to Volca Sample 2, too. Read somewhere that you can't hold a step button and tweak its parameter for only that step (like Elektron Parameter Locks)... oh, you definitely can. Don't know why people think you can't, with this.

Thanks for sharing. I was thinking the speed and egt int buttons should be considered as seperate functions. And I was thinking pitch attack and delay buttons would just position your pitch in your sample :-)
And boy, this device is addictive. Once you get to know the device and you're starting making your own songs you just cannot stop.

Sounds like Start Point actually removes from the end of the file

    • @minimal.camera
      @minimal.camera  2 роки тому

No, Start Point cuts off the beginning of the file, and Length cuts off the end of the file

I had the same feeling as Robert, as when you changed the starting point the sample didn't change the pitch up at the end anymore🤔

@@minimal.cameraand also I feel like length doesn't cut of at the end but the beginning. So it would be the opposite way than I was thinking for "start point" and "length. Thanks for the nice video, you explain very good and I like listening to you😁
