Dude, you could film on a toaster and I wouldn't care. We are her for you and your content. Thanks for 2023
Yeah 99% of people won't notice a difference unless it gets pointed out
That would be a fun project fixing a camera and toaster together
Can confirm
Depends on the toaster though
The kind of auto-focus that the toasted has.
The audio is important though.
love the low tech-end-of-year-video-from-room-in-parents-house set up. this must also be a tradition from now on too :)
I'd of course be very intrigued if Fediverse and ActivityPub take off, but I would bet squarely against that actually happening in 2024
2024 will be the year of the -Linux desktop- Fediverse
Nah
My predictions of @TechAltar's predictions.
1. Windows on ARM success - Green.
2. ActivityPub - Yellow.
3. Interoperable tech - RED.
4. Temu becomes the enemy - Yellow.
People like to hate on Temu but in practice, a lot of Temu’s cheap craps are also on Amazon with random brands for multiple of the price. I bought a table size electric grill a few months back for $70 on Amazon and saw the same looking on Temu for $16. I got curious and decided to buy it (just $16 after all) and I received exactly the same grill. No, it’s not a ripoff - it’s exactly the same thing with different brand logo 😂
But try returning an item to Temu in China, the buyer has to pay the shipping. At least with Amazon you can get them to step in. Shipping stuff to China is not cheap.
@@stuartedwards6996This.
@@stuartedwards6996usually they give you the money back, no questions asked
@@stuartedwards6996- why return, for $16, I just get another one. Still $50 cheaper than buying a new one from Amazon. The point is, TEMU live or die by the value they provided,. If consumers like what they got, TEMU gets to stay, if customers didn't like what they got, TEMU dies. No need to have a government coming in to come in and make sure they don't sell craps or make sure they do everything Amazon does. In fact, I think Amazon's cost is too high after their reluntless pursue of over night delivery. I honestly don't know which one is worse - instant gratification of buying craps vs. you have to wait for few days to get your craps.
Agreed. Temu has helped me elevate my apartment with the exact same stick on tile, wallpaper, hell even kitchen faucets that are on Amazon for double the price. In my experience it is literally the exact same.
Time flies. This is the 6th year watching you do a yearly prediction. Cheer to a great year !
Always look forward to your Friday Checkout! Thank-you for '23! See you next year!!
Oooo! 05:34 The first time I think I've physically been somewhere shown in your B-Roll. Thats the FOUP elevator/transfer stocker at the edge of Fab 42 on Ocotillo campus. Behind the camera are the stairs to 32
Oh nice, haha! We took it randomly from the Intel Newsroom page, hehe
You always come up with great videos and thanks for your research and advice from Australia.
your predictions are consistent, I agree /wish on the first one specifically
Elon can't sell Twitter because they have so much debt. He also has strong incentives to not bankrupt the company as that would make his assets much less liquid in the future. I think Twitter can recover however.
Becuase publicly telling advertisers to "go fuck themselves" is going to make them want to advertise with your platform. Without advertisers, there is no Twitter/X.
@@stuartedwards6996 I'm not going to say it doesn't make a difference, but they care less than you might think. A good PR person only cares about the bottom line and if advertising on Twitter benefits that then they're going to advertise on Twitter.
Right now it's not beneficial to advertise on Twitter, but that could change.
They might also find other ways to get money from their users.
Since Elon is basically non-political, I expect X to work with Chinese companies like Temu, Shein, Wechat to develop the All in one app. X real asset is its subscriber base and visibility. Which is why I find the name change very asset destructive.
Thanks for a great year bro. Happy New Year in advance!🫵
Thx and happy new year ❤
Thanks for the great content all year and I look forward to more.😉
Temu is also fantastic in ripping off Etsy / patron sellers
I prefer AliExpress for electronics, but hopefully Temu regulations don't make it harder to obtain electronic bits and dongles. I know their quality varies, but sometimes, I just need something that works short term. Dongles get lost easily anyways.
And if I need something long term, AliExpress has more trusted brands selling low volume items. Like adding a mini PCIE to m.2 wifi card adapter. It allowed me to upgrade the aging Wi-Fi card in my Dell desktop.
That "cheap and random crap" flooding the US is actually what people love. It tells you a lot about the US economy and the wealth and income inequality here. 75% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. We work more for less. So, things like Temu and all that chinesse stuff is extremely helpful, my friend. I got myself a very nice mechanical keyboard for $45.
Which keyboard? GMK67?
I mean it's not helpful at all. I'm not saying paying $200 for keyboard is worth it. But there is a reason why it's $200.
@@xiondFirstAnd there is a reason OP didn't feel like spending the $200, read the comment lmao
People want a bargine, but I think the honeymoon period will end soon. Unless TEMU decides to mature as a platform.
amazon sells a ton of mechanical keyboards for way less than 45$
0:53 hell yeah I did. only mistake was that I bought few of them
Thanms for blessings our Fridays
Please keep on doing your videos!
Happy new year!
Watching this in 144p automatic cellular in Vienna. So man, it's no problem for me you didn't take your camera!
Thanks for the vid
Elon is not selling Twitter until AFTER the US presidential election
Love this Series!
love your content.
Stay healthy & good luck in 2024🙂👍🙏
But TEMU is like the biggest helper with inflation though. No inflation reduction act could match the mights like TEMU who exports China's deflationary pressure into this inflationary world.
They sell what’s essentially garbage. It helps no one to basically export landfill
YEA!
@@EikuuluSinulle lol, I mean if you seek evidence, just google "China Deflation", and there will be plenty of articles mentioning this issue. I assumed it was not a very acedemic topic thus did not go further with the supporting materials.
Which is exactly why the US government will crack down on Temu. Temu like its parent PDD cuts out the middlemen. The middlemen in the US are the local retailers, instead of retailer, logistic companies are taking over.
It is also a lost opportunity for US manufacturers not to use these platforms to sell directly to Chinese or international consumers, they are so many great US products but no logistics infrastructure going out. The same reason why Amazon and Ebay is not very popular internationally except in countries with good/affordable logistics with the US.
I agree with your Intel prediction of $112 per share. spot on!
Great channel!
This windows on ARM prediction ... I do really like it. I was somewhat hoping for the Intel ULTRA architecture change to bring this Mseries competition in tho. But yeah ARM based Windows doesn't sound like a pipe dream either.
I just bought my first ever Windows machine in my life and I kinda like it. (probably it's more the hardware than the software tough) ... but a decent ... saaaay Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 with Qualcomm Elite X inside would be a fantastic Q1'24 upgrade for me.
Backlash against Temu has already started tbh, downfall is inevitable
Happy New Year ✨✨
Happy New Year!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow this is still pretty great for being filmed on a phone, what a world to be in
I'm curious about the upcoming EU markets laws. When iPhone knew they had to use USB-C, they did it about a year early (+ another year for actual design, probably).
But the chat interoperability regulation and app stores' opening up is coming on March 2024, we have barely heard any news (mostly rumors) and haven't seen any big companies actual implementations yet. So how would that work?
תודה!
I love your videos
Thanks!
Thanks!
My God Windows on ARM (and/or RISC V) would be a dream
It will flop.
@@thebeanstalker631 if not flop, it will still take years for ms to make windows on arm not suck
@@dariuskolbatrust me by the end of this year or Q1 2025 windows on arm will be the greatest achievement Microsoft will ever pull off reviving windows again.
I'm not sure about Windors on ARM. But the Linux communities are way ahead in the ARM regard. Maybe not the "Year of the Linux Desktop" meme once again, but (my prediction) we'll see Linux gaining some Steam (pun intended) thanks to (1) the ARM transition, (2) all the work Valve has been putting into Proton as a game-oriented compatibility layer and (3) all the work already done by communities like Fedora, Arch, Debian and Asahi to make a fully compatible ARM-based desktop OS (even using Linux on Apple silicon).
We're seeing now how Intel and Apple have been taking this open-source compatibility layer approach on things like ARC drivers (using DXVK to turn DirecX 11 and older into Vulkan to run with their GPUs) and the Apple gamer toolkit (based on Proton, Wine, DXVK and MoltenVK). If ARM is going to replace, eventually x86 as the main ISA, or even compete with RiscV in the future, all of this work on compatibility layers will become quite relevant and, maybe, come together into a standard framework for any OS (except Apple's because.... Apple).
Linux is becoming main stream here atleast for work related things. As most open source apps support linux and all the usefull apps.
The average person that uses desktops woudnt even notice the switch and would much rather prefer linux as it has higher customisation offers(they may be intresed in the GUI more).
I doubt that. Most of the schools and offices that tried to use it went back to Mac and Windows.
Stop trying to make Linux ha
Poe.
Thing is most people don't install their OS, unless OEMs make linux laptops with arm probably won't happen, and we'll still have to deal with windows domination for a couple of decades.
I think the transition from x86 to arm will be slow and companies will be ready to replace both with RiscV before the transition can complete
Excited about activity pub
I don't know if your genius mind is doing this on accident or you're doing it on purpose, but I'm noticing a pattern which is very effective: Your first prediction is always a very sound and solid one, little risk and I'm pretty sure it will turn out correct. This is then immediately followed by a very, very risky prediction. Very entertaining, people love to hear about mistakes and it's a good opportunity to be humble and boost sympathy. It makes you very likeable (which you very much are anyway, but yea) and it also boosts viewer attention, I noticed I was very attentive after that big success and a flop immediately after, and then this year you did the exact same thing again, sooo... 😅😅 Good stuff, keep it up Martin
Kellemes ünnepeket, és jah, a Win-ARM-ot leszámítva szerintem korrekt és reális elképzelések ezek...
I think it's a stretch to say the Meta Quest 3 can give you similar experiences as the Vision Pro. It's not even close. Maybe you were just taking things at face value.
Enjoy your holiday and home town. All the best for 2024. Camera is barely noticable
Temu has a very limited reach. For example, in South Africa we can buy from Wish/eBay/Aliexpress and soon Amazon - but Temu is limited to a small number of countries.
Another prediction from my sides:
Generative AI will be just there, nothing big from them.
It was hyped a lot, there are some use cases for it, but mostly it is just used for crap. Using the google search engine is better for most parts.
And I expect a privacy foused car to eventually be revealed/tested out by some form of Start Up.
the first one is my prediction too (i don't know anything about cars), lets come back a year later and see if we are right.
Thanks for assuming 2023 looking forward for more awesome contents in 2024
I love my quest 3. Id love to see some future qualcomm 2nm 24 gig ram version.
Thanks for the financial advice!
I hope you are right about Temu.
I've been expecting Windows on ARM to grow for a while now, but somehow it's been stubborn on x86. I think it will make a stride this coming year, but a longer while to really catch on. It is possible they will try to rush it when it's almost too late (as is typical of Microsoft) if Apple really hones in on thing like gaming.
The main problem still on the Windows side is their thinking, they still think that their name will solve everything, and developers will ignore the bigger markets just to make apps for the tiny market share (same as Windows Phone, the app store was empty for 3 years, once the apps started to grow, the users are already leaved the platform, and it was too late to keep it alive).
So basically you think windows on ARM is mature enough and we are just waiting for the next gen of SoCs to hit the market to be competitive?
Temu would just rebrand or have some other ways for sellers to not be impacted much by external regulations.
Thus I do not see much drastic impact on them in the coming 370 days.
Consumers are powering it by placing orders and might continue to be a big draw for the drop shipping businesses.
Ahh, see, that rebranding won't work. The reason TEMU is so popular is they absolutely carpet bombed every advertising medium under the son for many months. I probably saw dozens of TEMU ads every hour just doing basic web stuff. It was insane.
A rebrand would require that huge spend to be repeated. Not saying it can't happen, but it is a barrier.
I think you're half right. There is a new Chinese store every year (Shein, Wish, Lightinthebox, etc.) However they're always by different people and I think that is because if the same people tried a rebrand regulators would snap back much faster.
Temu's headquarter (Ping duoduo) is having some issues in China. PDD has actually moved part of its head office operation to Dublin.
I hope you're right about temu. I hate unnecessary consumerism, and the slogan "shop like a billionaire" activates some kind of primal disgust instinct.
Your phone camera did a good job.
I agree with predictions 1 & 2. For 3, I think the DMA will be effective in Europe, but there will be little, if any, more regulation in other areas of the world. And for 4, I think Temu will just lose steam instead of being cracked down.
Some of my tech predictions for 2024
Tesla will be valued less than it is today, mostly because other car companies are playing catch up, but also regulatory concerns will be more of an issue for Tesla.
Netflix will have a stellar year. Either they have more subscriptions due to password sharing, or they finally make a stride with gaming. Bonus prediction: Netflix will launch a hardware device that is powerful enough for casual games.
Apple Vision Pro will be a critical hit but a commercial flop. I don't know anyone who is willing to spend $4k on a computer, but when Apple releases its cheaper model, that will become a hit.
These predictions were so on point. I am honestly expecting TEMU to be cut down
Which camera are you using.. its pleasing to watch this...
The time stamps were damn messed up
I think the new Qualcomm's chips will be good, but Windows part of things will still suck for a quite a while.
Temu's parent company PDD is traded in NY so that majority owners are American funds. It is highly unlikely to have any significant damaging consequences.
See you in 2024!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yo why’s it look so good LOL. Phone cameras are too good now.
Haha now made me excited for the next year prediction 😂😂
Thanks for doing this rundown. Relating to chip shortages, I think we'll start to see GPU shortages take hold again late 2024 with AI demand and altcoin crypto mining becoming more profitable again, especially after the BTC halving this year.
I'm all optimistic for windows on ARM 💪
Happy holidays from Czechia, "neighbor". ✌ I ucerenntly use MS Laptop Studio and cant wait for the real Windows ARM revolution, if its gonna come. Maybe it will even help to resurect Windows Phone? Who knows.. 👌
Gpt 5 will be released in January with Gpt store etc. I think Gpt 4.5 will be free for users and 5 for plus users
Are you doing this for every year now?
So, last year it was TikTok who was about to get legal problems and this year is Temu, let's see what happens!
Nice
Payments methods in India have already been standardised by upi and it is so good. If u ask any Indian about upi they will have only positive things to say.
I hope the last prediction comes true.
i can't see ARM on windows working out , what's the incentive to make it happen ? Unless they are confident they can artificially increase PC sales ? Hardware and software companies have no reason to do it.
My hope is that the iDildo will finally be released. It's going to be an exciting addition to the Apple ecosystem.
rumour is it has bloodrate sensors to see how close you are
7 minutes since release. 🎉 And I'm in comments
If temu becomes the enemy then tick-toc would become an enemy aswell
Downloading TEMU now before they are gone
Temu isn't shipping to Africa... hope 2024 it will start
For a brief sec, I thought this video would be sponsored by Temu.
What are your predictions for AI next year?
i already know what people who dont shop at temu only think that this low prices are always like this. Well its not its only for new accounts.
I made my first purchase with them for an item that no local store offers. However, it seems Ali Express still offers better price and equally fast shipping.
@@user-wz8hp2ix9f i mean alie express offers better stuff over all temu is like shein but better and if you search good enough youll find gems there too.
I want Windows on ARM laptops so that I can install Linux on it. Fedora ofc.
Something went wrong with your timestamps/chapters in the description
To me the camera quality doesn’t matter at all, because I can actually hear you, so many UA-camrs have great cameras and then awful audio!
Any predictions on AI?
Oh man, I really hope WoA becomes popular. But I feel like the biggest issue is the crappy x86 emulation. Apple and Valve showed that translation layers are the way forward, but MS seems to be ignorant of this for whatever reason.
or x86 can improve
@@bhaveshsonar7558"N-n-no x86 bad!"
I don't think ARM will be a success on Windows. Microsoft has had a rough time supporting new features on x86 and ARM will take years to be competitive with x86.
Exactly. Microsoft is not competent enough to pull this off. You can't trust them. Maybe Google should shift focus with their Chromebooks and actually figure out laptops.
eeeh I don't know about that one. Microsoft is really putting in a lot of money into that. A lot of companies are either working on an ARM Processors for Laptops or already released one (NVidia, Intel, Qualcom, and so on). What OS would they use.
Linux is not an option for most users and I doubt Apple will help their competetors
@@thomasthereal4067 this is not the first time Microsoft has spent a lot of money on something. Fundamentally they are incompetent. They'll come up with something but it will be very subpar compared to apple.
C’mon guys let’s break those walled gardens!
Never heard of temu and surprised meta recovered, I know nobody using facebook, and instagram maybe passingly
My prediction: there will be a shortage in air conditioning units in 12024...
If Windows on ARM succeeds will Apple bring back boot camp?
I hope your last predigtion comes true 🤞
Cheap crap is somewhat better than very expensive crap. Temu gives you what you pay for unlike Apple. Louis Rossman has shown this to be true.
Enjoy your time in your home country!
Üdv itthon! ☺️
no AI related prediction? it's hard tbh. OpenAI is on a turning point next year. they might take off and they might sink.
Facebook considered a privacy nighmare , so can be a reason for meta headset not being that popular,I actually like macos even though I have grown and use windows,I only used macos few times 7:08,EU can push other social media to become interoperability right,I heard they are doing this with messaging
Indeed. Is quite sad HTC Has given up on consumer VR/AR hardware
I think the main reason the Quest 3 didn't take off was because it wasn't a big enough jump. Most VR youtubers I saw review it said it was a sidegrade and that is not the kind of review that gets people hyped to buy a product.
How did you miss A.I in your predictions 😅?
