It's not new actually. There was the Samsung Movies/Music store until Google convinced them not to copy Google Play Movies/Music, then there was Galaxy Waches using Tizen OS until Google convinced them to return to Wear OS, then there was Samsung Messages (which is still around) until Google convinced them to preinstall Google Messages. Google won't like identical services that they already offer. There's still Samsung Internet, Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, Samsung Android Phone Backup, Samsung Keyboard and probably lots more.

My concern is that Quick Share currently only works with PCs with an Intel Wifi/BT stack. This means either your PC has an Intel CPU, or it may have an AMD CPU but have an Intel-based WiFi card (it's a separate piece of hardware so CPU doesn't matter in this case). Hopefully they'd add Mediatek and Killer Wifi stack support.

That's not exactly true, what matters most is friction, as in "how much more inconvenient/hard is it to use an app vs a dedicated device that does this one thing well" ? If the friction is too high then people will still want a separate device, indeed game consoles are a great example of purposefully applied friction to create mental separation in users' minds between concepts like "mobile game" and "console game"

The rabbit thing could easily be an app. The company doesn't have its own LLM running locally on it and you need constant internet access for it to work. This negates the only advantage of a separate hardware. This is essentially just another AI wrapper.
In my opinion the only reason this is a separate device instead of an app is because the company can have complete unfettered access to camera and microphone without apple or google stopping them.

I would be all for the Rabbit R1 if it wasn't part of this crazy techbro obsession with voice controlled assistants. People NEED text input because they have needs that are detailed and complex, which are not easily expressed or recorded through voice. Also, the fact that you have to go set permissions for the rabbit to access your apps and accounts makes the product extremely vulnerable to becoming irrelevant if tech giants like Meta or Google refuse to play ball and make integrations with the R1's software.

I imagine this tech like a personal assistant for checking your emails for you; booking a ride; ordering food; writing message to someone hands-free; getting directions; and anything that doesn't need constant ui interaction.
This should be the future of smartwatch, not just a fitness tracker but a smart ai-assistant.

Example I got Samsung watch since version 1 Tizen then they killed Tizen and move to Android Wear OS. Also no easy way to share files easily between different manufacturers and computers. Apple ecosystem is awesome but it's a closed walled system. Can't move my Viber chat history from Android to iphone and vice versa.. insane.

At 5:00 when you're talking about booking an entire an entire vaccination. I just watched the whole demo and he told it to pick a hotel get them a car and book flights with the family and a child a 5 years old.
The rabbit came back with a list of options that he had to pick for each of those. However he did not show us those screens. So the device might have picked 20 different hotels and he had to select which hotel. Go to imagine that was with all the options including the flight and car.
The only specifics he gave were the estimated time of his vacation, who was traveling including the age of the child and that he wanted free Wi-Fi in the hotel.
He clicked through them pretty quickly so I'm assuming he just took the first option on each to make it look good.
I'm going to be watching this product for sure though it looks interesting.

I'm a visual person, so the Rabbit device isn't going to work for me. If it was designed not to replace your phone as the founder said, then why do I need this if I can just do the same thing on my phone and it gives me a better visual of what I'm working on. He was trying to say phone nowadays are not intuitive and he was getting somewhere with that point, but his solution wasn't strong enough to prove it. I felt like I am hit with a wall, blindly trusting a black background with a white rabbit in the center... idk it makes me feel uneasy, doesn't feel intuitive, it feels more like a hassle that I can't fully rely on.

There are quite a few red flags with the Rabbit R1. Firstly, it's apparent that the CEO is merely pretending to use the device in their demonstrations, with all responses likely added in post-production. They claim to have developed an LLM (Large Language Model) that surpasses anything created by OpenAI, yet they provide no evidence to back this bold statement. The hardware itself seems underwhelming, consisting merely of a cheap camera and a small screen. Additionally, the lack of a subscription model raises questions about their server financing strategy. Without a steady revenue stream, how will they sustain the servers? And if the servers go down, the device becomes a pricey paperweight. Lastly, I'm puzzled about its connection to CES. Many videos seem to associate the Rabbit R1 with CES, but from what I've gathered, it was merely a video released by the company during the event, not any part of it. This seems to have misled quite a few people into making a purchase. In my eyes, this is like 'The Day Before' scenario, but in the form of hardware - full of promises, but lacking substance. 😄

Amazing how the entire Laptop industry invents new stuff yearly and Apple still has its Macbook, with no real innovation that is modern.

    • @mikldude9376
      @mikldude9376 4 місяці тому

Yeah , but the MacBook does what it does very well , even when you unplug it from mains power which cannot be said for many many other laptops , and sometimes Inovation for new whizz bang features is just way over rated.
Look at cars for example , I bought a modern brand name conventional car that is known for its reliability , I have no doubt with basic servicing it will last me 20 years should I choose to keep it that long , it has very good range which will hardly ever diminish , I can fill it with juice in 5 minutes , it does everything I need and its a good car ,and I can have it serviced at any local corner garage ,
Look how we have progressed with the innovation of modern electric vehicles , the the good brand names are expensive to buy , the driving range is still mediocre and way worse when weather conditions are not favourable , , the range will decrease as time rolls on , and at some stage down the track when the EV is outa warranty it will require a balloon payment of probably a third to half the cost of the vehicles new price for that massive battery , and there are still a whole raft of other cons with the EV. I have not mentioned . Clearly , sometimes innovation or progress turns out to be fashion or gimmicks rather than just being a good solid basic product that just performs .
