Something I was wondering about (due to lack of any mention) was the actual field of view in the Vision Pro. The review on the Verge was the first (and so far the only one I know) to highlight that its field of view is pretty small and suffering from the usual distortions around the edges, as found in all VR headsets. As always, what they sell to you in the marketing is 50% bullshit.

To be fair, it's not really played. Once very hour does not constitute playable or even really running. It's at best a slideshow so you can't really verify that it's even running as Doom. Let's say I told you I can run Doom on PowerPoint but it's FPS is slow and you don't really control what happens, just can see the same thing over and over. Probably wouldn't constitute would it?

On the one hand, Google is pushing its subscriptions more and more brazenly.
On the other hand, I wish that more services could have a sustainable subscription model.

I wonder where the subscribers come from. Not a single person I know in real life and online pays for Google One or UA-cam Premium. Google One: Who needs that? UA-cam: They either watch with ads or without ads using uBlock Origin on PC, ReVanced on Android, and SmartTube on Android TV. I'm not sure what people with Apple devices do as most people around here use Windows and Android, whereas only a few teenagers buy an iPhone since their social media app of choice takes potato quality screenshots of the viewfinder on Android instead of using the proper camera API.

It seems that Apple chose to not comply - there will be no way to side-load an alternative appstore like F-droid. I wonder what will EU regulator do about it.
Kinda wish EU force apple to eat their own shit- forcing them to implement the same hurdles third parties have to jump through on apple's own store. Either apple yields and make sideloading practical or they are forced to ruin their own store.

The EU, as one of the most European things there is, won't comment directly on this issue but will act against it. It is clear that they don't like it mor accept Apple's interpretation of the law as when asked the EU industry chief Thierry Breto said "If the proposed solutions are not good enough, we will not hesitate to take strong action." Which fo an EU official is a very strong remark clearly simed at Apple but I'm sure there will be problems (although not on the same level) with the othe gatekeepers. Google started testing some changes and one of them is making the Google map on the search results unclickable instead of, for example, give each user the ability tochoose his favorite map service to appear in that box, which is the intent ofvthis law - preventing Googl fro using their search to advance their other services by allowing others to replace them, not to reduce the search usability. Meta is working on allowing WhatsApp to work with other messaging services and we'll have to wait to see how they'll implement it.
As long as premium is bundled with youtube music, it just makes sense to get it and cancel whatever standalone music service you might be paying for

As someone who discovered a lot of songs that I like through TikTok I think it's really short-sighted to pull their music from the app. TikTok isn't streaming it's advertising for songs because there are usually only snippets not the full songs. But I guess it has it's advantages as well because it gives smaller musicians & independent artists a chance to shine and take the spotlight in the next wave of viral videos.

Easy is an overstatement, but you can licence standard arm cores for your CPU and GPU at least. With modem ech you mostly have to start from scratch. Both are hard but modems seem to be particularly challenging

I'll never stop using ad block or pay for a subscription- happy to leave if my ad block stops working. Still works great though, no slowdowns/lag or any problems at all.
I wish I could pay to content creators (videos, online newspapers) by teleporting a few cents away from my wallet with no one else taking the cut. (Of course these requirements are as impossible as online voting) Ads and subscription fees are less than ideal. Pay per amount of content can change culture in weird ways for better or worse.

I'm on UA-cam Premium since four years, I would guess. Never had a bad experience. And yes, sometimes there are sponsor blocks in a video, but they are from the creators themselves, not inserted by UA-cam.
