  • Rocky Mountain Construction has created some of the worlds greatest roller coasters by taking an old, outdated wooden coaster and replacing the wood track with steel, allowing it to do more dynamic maneuvers such as steep drops and inversions! Lets discuss the 10 rides we feel would make perfect RMC conversions!

There were confirmed reports that Six Flags and RMC were well advanced in the conversion project for Le Monstre at La Ronde and this was meant to happen for the 2017 season which was the 50th anniversary of the park. Unfortunately, they couldn't figure out an agreement with RMC to align with Quebec/Canada laws and the use of non-local workers or something along those lines. The project eventually got parked and La Ronde added Titan (Giant Discovery) as a last minute replacement for that season. It really hurts to think that the layout plans of the RMC conversion do exist somewhere, that Alan Schilke worked on those at one point, and that we might never see those ever come to fruition. Maybe with the merger and new budget philosophy, this window will reopen for La Ronde...

    • @brianfoss571
      @brianfoss571 5 місяців тому

It's be great to see those plans, although I have a hunch they'd have cut out the second half to create a Mobius layout like Twisted Colossus. La Ronde just isn't big enough for 8,000 ft of wood coaster track, but hopefully they can make the best of a bad layout with Titan Track or GG EPT.

I dont know if you guys ever heard about Montezum, here in São Paulo, Brasil. A massive Wooden, signature ride at Hopi Hari, but it's been really rough for a while although it's an awesome ride! I really hope RMC would rebuild it!

  • @joaospegiorin7840

Guys, Montezum at Hopi Hari!!!! That thing is terrible! Its unbearably rough at a point that local coaster enthusiasts tend to not ride it, even though its the largest coaster in South America! It literally has fractured peoples' ribs a couple of years ago, it's at my top 3 of worst coasters out of 140 creds... Hopi Hari is a park that needs much more a rmc than parque warner, for example (I didn't really care about Coaster Express, it wasn't rough, just boring hahahaha), plus it would give south america an elite coaster, at last
Yeah, that thing definitely should be on this list

Sooo glad you included Carowinds' Hurler on this list. Could you imagine a RMC'd Hurler, Fury 325, and a GCI or Gravity Group woodie in the old whitewater ride lot. Back to back to back!!!!! With that lineup along with Copperhead, Intimidator and Afterburn it will put Carowinds at or near the top of the traditional Cedar Fair parks. As a bonus, make Vortex floorless. It would make a great 7-10 year plan.

RMC Le Monstre would be an amazing creation. LaRonde really needs another great coaster as they really only have 2 B&Ms. Goliath is amazing floater machine, and Vampire is the worlds most intense Invert. If they add and ejector machine with RMC Monstre, it would be a killer top 3. Honestly one of the best in the world. Goliath and Vampire are super underrated

They could build an RMC better than Steel Vengeance, and you STILL wouldn't have a "killer top 3", one of... what was it?... Oh. Yeah. "The best in the world". All it would be is a killer top one.

Wolverine Wildcat is actually on its way to being a great coaster.
It got Titan Track and Gravity Group track that both reprofiled the first half very well. It legit gives good airtime.
The untouched second half is underwhelming where you can tell it supposed to give airtime but doesn't. But if GCI & GG touch that section up too, it will turn Wolverine into a great wood coaster.

Now, they're popular for their innovative ground-up creations. BUT they still have that history of converting old, shaky wooden coasters into works of art. So down the road, say 25-50 years, when all the current wooden coasters getting built DO need some love? RMC will still be there to be like "pick me pick me!" RMC is not going anywhere, the way they built themselves as a company has really ensured that. I have no doubt we will see more conversions down the road. Who knows what they will have come up with by then!o

Went to the park and Coaster Express had the same wait time as freaking Gotham City Escape, the worst coaster in the park had the same wait time as one of the best coasters in Europe, meanwhile Superman was a walk-on.
But despite that, please, please, please Parque Warner RMC Coaster Express. It would be my wildest theme park dream right now!

Guys, I'm from Spain. And when you said Magnus Colossus in Terra Mítica, OMG!!! Literally YES, everyone here wants it. The park is large, with very good theming and the location is spectacular. The location of Magnus Colossus is absolutely incredible and is what would revive the park.
Regarding Coaster Express, I just loved you hahahaha. Everyone here asks about Coaster Express RMC. Coaster Express is really crying out for it, like you said. It's the perfect canvas for an RMC conversion. Enthusiasts who ask for it en masse and we make Parque Warner like the comments, Instagram stories and mentions hahaha. You know, we press it and the park ends up liking Coaster Express RMC's request. This doesn't mean anything, but we do know that both parks are aware of RMC's incredible option and will probably end up surprising the world at some point, especially Parque Warner Madrid, which is the most realistic for it to become a reality.

When RMC was converting so many woodies in the chain, Great Adventure being my home park I was FOR SURE that we were next, but then they kept removing more and more structure smh. There is a big problem with RMC and I wish @coasterStudios would talk about it more... the restraints. They are very claustrophobic on your lower half. That also means people don't fit well in them. Which means dispatches are slow and ride capacity is low. I get it, RMC's are aggressive rides that have ejector airtime unlike any other. But I suspect that was only made possible because of the restraints, and ride lockers etc etc which all affect capacity. Imagine if RMC could get trains and restraints like velocicoaster and pantheon!

Michigan resident here. Cedar Fair bought Michigan's Adventure to sink it in favor of Cedar Point so RMC'ed Wolverine Wildcat would never happen. It's also literally the park's first roller coaster so there's some history there. I grew up about 15 mins from MA and the previous owner seriously had plans to rival Cedar Point (he had a long way to go of course, but he was ambitious). MA has the land for it.
While I still live in Michigan, I'm southeast now and live closer to CP than MA but I still think about what could've been had the owner not sold.

It has some ferocious ejector in the front row now. That section rides like Mystic Timbers now. But with strong ejector. It really doesn't need RMC. It was better than Blue Streak in 23. If they keep adding new wood it's going to be absolutely incredible.

Add 2 or 3 more elements on the still existing footers from the original Colossus by what's currently the break run so dueling can happen more regularly (ie allowing a little bit more time to dispatch). It's so frustrating knowing that The Boss has the potential to be like Wildfire at Kolmården, but Six Flags would never prioritize 4,500 ft of I-Box track for St. Louis. However, if Zambezi Zinger gets Titan Track on its entire layout, I could see that happen for Boss. Cutting down those maintenance costs has to be a massive win-win for the park.

As far as Wolverine Wildcat, I rode it last year at the retracking did wonders for it. Those parts were a fine ride. That park needs something else besides Shivering Timbers but a fully retracked Wolverine Wildcat is ok. I think they need a RMC raptor. Roar and Hurler are both garbage. Only saving grace with Roar is it isn't quite as bad as Firebird and the SLC. Hurler has gotten rough. Both need the RMC treatment. Finally, Loup Garou is nowhere near as bad as you are saying. I would easily take it over Hurler or Roar. I have it as an average ride, so I do agree it would be better as an RMC. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Hoosier Hurricane could benefit from being RMCd.

I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this, but I'd like to see one of Kennywood's wooden roller coasters get the RMC Ibox treatment. The coaster I am referring to is Racer. Not because it's painful, which it's only a little rough, but because it's just so tame for a racing roller coaster. I know Kennywood is geared more toward families, and Racer is kind of a landmark, but they do have some intense rollercoasters, and I think RMC'ing Racer is within their budget. It wouldn't have to be made super tall, but I think adding about 25 to 30 ft to it would suffice, and then they add some airtime and banked turns and make it more dynamic. Also instead of the old mobius loop layout where you only ride one side of the track, make a new modius loop layout where after completing the first side of the lift hill the track bypasses the station and goes directly to the second lift hill. So, one train gets dispatched from the station and completes one side of the track and continues to the second side of the track, and another one gets dispatched sometime later, so you race two times. I'm thinking sort of like a Twisted Colossus, but obviously, it's a smaller and less dynamic version of that. This is an absolute longshot, and I don't ever think it will happen, especially with how old the ride structure is, but to me, it could really use an upgrade and become a more dynamic attraction. Even if GCI or Gravity Group came in and did a retrack and reprofiled some track to make the turns more dynamic, I think it would be worth it. Like I said, there is probably a 1% chance this ever happens, but I think an RMC Racer would be a cool addition to Kennywood.

@CoasterComedy, the ACE landmark is exactly why I believe it won't ever happen. What I can say though is that Thunderbolt and Jackrabbit aren't as good of a candidate for a good RMC layout like Racer is especially considering the terrain of those two rides posing challenges. So absolutely an RMC conversion of any Kennywood wooden roller coaster will probably never happen but Racer would be my candidate over the other two.

Yeah, Racer is definitely pretty tame by today's standards (which makes sense, as it's one of the oldest surviving non-side friction coasters, in the US). It's basically a fun but tame family coaster with a notably unique layout and racing gimmick to make it stand out, and I think something like a a little re-tracking and re-profiling some of the hills and turns to make them a bit more interesting, (while still keeping it in the realm of family coaster) would be very reasonable. (I mean, Jackrabbit is very much a family coaster, but the airtime you get on that double-down is actually insane.)
