I had the same thought, why bother asking. My conclusion applies to Wray, Garland, Mayorkas and ever other clown in the current Clown Car that is this administration. By asking questions that they know will not be answered that are pointing out to anyone with half a brain that this administration first sees its self not accountable to Congress and by the evasion that there is something that is being concealed.
So this isnt a fact finding hearing but rather a PR event. I believe in this case Senator Lee knew the answers to every question he asked regarding whether anyone had been punished/ fired for using governmental resources to spy on citizens.

Any other trust trustee accepting untradeable bonds from an entity already in technical bankruptcy in exchange for the trust’s hard cash would be removed and probably jailed for breach of fiduciary duty.
