The chain appears to grow faster if the target is moving in the opposite direction of the chain flying meaning that you may have been in range when the chain was fired by as the person moves away it appears longer as the chain doesn't move with the person chained.
Another tip if you have trouble hitting your Chains. Pick the level 7 talent "Chilling Touch" and AA before you try to hit your E. The 30% slow will help you to hit your first target way easier.
I knew most of this already (I bet a lot of people did if they were around when KTZ came out), however the sneaky spike combo, more notably the fact you can hide it behind gates, will be fun to toy around with.
A lot of my friends have been getting better by watching your videos, and one of them loves KTZ despite being completely inept with him, so hopefully him watching this video will finally let us win games :)
Some advice from a 160+ level KTZ main :) 1) There are some other good counters: a) Tracer, Illidan, or Genji - insane mobility that prevents you from hitting your skillshots, Recall (Tracer) / Metamorphosis (Illidan) / X-strike (Genji) as a mean to escape a full combo even if you've managed to chain this hero to anything, can chase you to death easily, b) Valeera - silence, can chase you, and you have no escapes, c) Stukov - AoE silence, talent for healing CC-d targets, burst healing. Heroes are listed in the order of decreasing counter potential. 2) There is one more combo that is very difficult to pull of, but feels SO rewarding when you succeed. If you are chased in a straight line, you can hit your chaser with a chain (to apply armour debuff from level 1 talent), press Alt + W on your way and then immediately cast R on your root. All these abilities have almost no cast time, so you don't need to stop moving. At least, you win a second or two to break away from a chase because your chaser will be rooted and may change his/her mind on runnig after you if you get him/her low on health. The best case scenario is you simply kill your chaser with W and R damage with an armour debuff. Be careful! Your Q has a cast time, so you will stop moving to cast it. Also it's too difficult to pull off this combo with chasers like Tracer or Illidan. If you are chased by Thrall, Graymane, etc., this combo may save you. 3) There is one sneaky trick I do when seigeing with map obj or my team (or both). Your glacial spike range is enough to put it behind an enemy wall, so I get closer to the wall from a flank and put my spike at the enemy territory. Because your enemies are distracted by the map objective (e. g., Punisher) or/and your teammates, they may miss your spike or see it too late to react. If you strike fast, you may get a kill (E, W, and R can be cast behind an enemy wall, Q will hit a wall, don't waste it) or, at least, cause one enemy to back off. It works with a zerg wave on Braxis, too: if you put your spike in the middle of the zerg crowd, it may appear unnoticed. Playing KTZ is often exploiting your enemies' inattentiveness and overconfidence.
I've found that I prefer Frost Blast vs most stealthies, and especially Nova. It really makes sure she doesn't get away. Samuro is my favorite hero to fight as KTZ because his clones stack Cold Dark and the disable heroes for spell power talent :D
I love countering KTZ with Tracer. If your ult is fully charged most of the time it's over for him especially if you poked him a little bit before using melee + ult. When you killed him or if you failed, you just use your recall.
You forgot 1 combo: get a friend to play murky with octograb and blow people up from anywhere with fissure. If KT is near the murky and can land frost nova and Q too, the target's pretty much toast unless maybe chogall. Very fun duo queue at least.
Or even better = Apoc + Fissure = Song of ice & fire :D Especially if/when you can convince one of the other guys on your team to take Arthas and go Sindragosa ult, then you get the full combo of Sinda + Apoc + Fissure, but can be debatable if you already have the other ingredients that maybe taking Frost Blast could be the better move :)
That can work and potentially be better, but we take murky because 1. Short cooldown on his ulty (like KT) 2. It's point and click, pretty easy to land and most of the time a garanteed kill. Apocalypse is 100 sec CD (i think), much harder to land. 3. It's murky, doesn't matter if he dies in a risky dive to take someone out.
These videos are some of the best you have made for specific heroes. They remind me of "mistakes you might be making" which were my favorite videos from you.
The most reliable combo is probably the spike combo. The Main reason why is you only have to land 1 chain, the next chain hits a non-moving target so it's nearly impossible to miss. But all 3 combos are important and have their uses. Be creative! And for the KTz build: heroeshearth.com/builds/NotParadox/simple-combo-build-with-video-explanation/

I brought him to 5 while the last match i ended last in hero damage -including tanks and healers. I think it's not the hero tailored for me and he will stay 5 forever :D
I'd add one remark. If you chain 2 people and bring them together, each of them travels half the distance and they get together fast, even if they were pulled at max range. But if you pull someone to the spike from max range the time of travel is twice longer. So in 2 people combo you place Frost Nova (W) first and then pull enemies into it. In spike combo you may want to try pulling first and then placing frost nova at the spike. Test it. At max range it works better in my opinion, because travel time is long enough to cover most of Frost Nova activation time.
I usually run Plaguelands. The wave clear and camp speed go up drastically. The only real weakness is vs mobility or immunity. It's more damage, but it's slower damage.
@@NotParadox thank you very much I was having troubles using kelthuzad but it's an amazing mage and wanted to learn how to use it so hard. Plus the little kitten is so cute💖🐈
I use Quick on everything. If you have to aim anything, it slows you down, and mere miliseconds can mean a kill or the target fleeing before your burst. Once you get the hand of Ktz, you full off the combo basically using muscle memory.

Thank you very much for sharing this, I tried him out in try, that of course was really easy so I took him out to play, ended up on alterac map...Didn't do very well with thebuild I put together, definitely couldnt get the chain to the block of ice to work right :| he is hard when coming in ignorant, now you have this video for us to learn from. So glad, I really like him. I was able to get Lunara to work pretty well since she made me have to stutter step constantly. I don't know if she's the best one to learn it on b ut I can tell you that its interesting that I couldn't get into the habit of consistently stutter stepping, until using her, with her I can do it very well. KTZ just looks way more fun once I get a good build and practice him much more with your information.
As a main KTZ player i must say a lot of newbie ktz' uses their second chain before they land their W which lets enemy run out of the center of ability before it explodes. So the main issue here is to know you really need to use your W just before you use your second chain and you'll definately get your full combo as you want. If you do this by more practice you won't even need to get lvl 13 %60 slow for 1 sec talent to guarentee your combos. Plus you can pick other talents like the 3rd talent at 13 which gives you a lot more chains if you hit succesfully each of them aaand boom. You are a cancer ktz for enemy team.
Did they rework how chains are aimed at some point or do I just not understand it? I have the problem that the second chain that goes off from the enemy hero, does not fire off in the angle I want it to. Sometimes it feels like it automatically aims to the closest heroes position. If that one moves, you miss behind it. However, sometimes it feels like the chains base is turning, thus overaiming I'm really confused and demotivated as I can't spot consistency.
Yeah, but one person changing his game settings vs thousands of other people having to change their settings? Makes sense for the media creator to make it easier for the viewers?
ok thats cool but how do you hit the chains on moving targets? i reached lvl 16 with ktz but mostly I'm still a negative for my team because I miss the combo each and every damn time and I don't know where to improve. When I take longer to hit my combo the enemies are already gone and nothing comes of it. It's damn frustrating.
Only reason you'd want to consider it, you first picked KTZ and then the enemy team picked nothing but counters to you. Frost Blast can force a team fight and if they have Tracer/Genji/Abathur your team can probably mop them up after you lock them down.
Best Stack Combo: Mouse Target, E, Mouse Collision, W , E, R , Q, AA Stack Starter Combo: Mouse Target, E, Mouse Collision, W, E Basic Spike: E, Spike, W, E, Q, AA Sneaky Spike: Spike (hidden), E , W , E ,Q ,AA Tips: Practice doing the combo fast Don't move your mouse too much.
A tip for tanks main that if you see an overextended backline that is about to get chained to an ice block you should try to catch the chain instead so it clings to you making him waste combo Edit: If he has the chain already on him , if the chain on ice block it should not matter.
Little tip: If u want to do max range pull on someone alredy chained who run away from you, put your spike on max range then chain. Spike has very big model and u can do pull ppl from fog, but instead of doing combo right in front of spike do them little far. Also if u play with "on relase" change option on second chain to instant, this will help you a lot with combo speed.
Not really. A decent ktz will get the armor at 4 and not put himself in danger of dying to a tracer. Just get anub/garrosh/muradin as main tank and some follow-up damage.
As a KTz player I very rarely (almost never) ban Tracer, Genji on the other hand is a 100% MUST BAN though Yes, Tracer kills KT but you leave her on less than 10% HP when she commits for the kill, which means if your team watches out what's going on you trade for one another (sometimes even you yourself can trade if she's a bit bruised before you two engage on one another) And most of the times your team without KT is less of a detriment than opponent's team without Tracer
Tracer is indeed a possible counter, though tracer is a counter for half the heroes in this game imho. Also kel can still get the stun and kill tracer before she knows it
As a Tracer main (level 35 since i play every character in the game, with 65%wr on her) i'm just going to Say that a good Tracer will beat a good Ktz. If you're fully stacked, you Keep healing yourself for a lot (like 20% of your hp without reloading), also with the improved rewind at 20 you can get back to full before you even get low or if you realize the kill is too risky. Also Genji is a 100% ban anyway so yeah.
Does Xul pair well with him? It seems to me that he would since he can clear waves and immobilize enemy heroes, both of which would make landing skill shots easier.
I like using tanks as pseudo glacial spike; instead of scrambling past the tank to reach backlane. Because you cant one shot him, doesnt mean you cant take him out of fight for a bit along with a backlaner.
I would recommend q build with crippling poison. Very high dmg and not reliable on her trait. I like both of her ults but imo CoF is better. Garrote is the most useful out of her stealth abilities but sometimes i use cheap shot for a combo stunlock or to simply blind an enemy(Tychus with his active trait for example or Butcher. Zul'jin is another great example - he doesnt have really strong basic abilies but Taz'dingo can save his freaking life. So if u see that Zul is high health i would prefer using stun so he couldnt dmg u. If his low hp definetely use garrote so he couldnt activate Taz'dingo or he will kill u easily).
Not talking low on you, but I find Valeera one of the easiest characters. It's all a matter of knowing when to, 98% of the cases, cheapshot, spam everything you have, and Cloak of shadows out... reapeat. She is the best counter for genjis, tracers, zuljins, vallas, butchers and others squishy mobile heroes, or blind countered like those. I use normally this build: www.heroesfire.com/hots/talent-calculator/valeera#l0Mc
Ive never used Kelthuzad (i kinda know how to play against him) but on ranked i try to "counter" kt by using chromie, since chromie has a long range i can focus my abilities on him when his casting his abilities that way i can kinda keep him away from battle. Btw good guide tough, i think im gonna start using him.
I'm a scrub and this was the only hero I was good at, so I knew the day would come that this video would show up. But as long as you do not change movement with click after your first E, you can spam all 4 abilities simultaneously between targets, and receive faster combo completions and guarantee a fast lock down. 😭.
Once I get my spike I prefer to do the 2nd combo: summoning the spike after I hit someone with my chain. That way I almost never waste my 30s cd spike when they dodged my first chain anyway
Don’t let them know it’s not that hard! Too many people will pick him up! Honestly, KTZ is phenomenal. Out of 45 games so far (not many I know), I have a 73% WR with him, only 3 being AI matches to practice his skills. Takes a bit to get it down but once you do I truly believe KTZ is one of the few heroes who CAN carry a game and completely change a losing game to a winning one.
You can actually kill 9 out of 10 tanks with your combo if you go shade of naxrammas on lvl 20 with a death and decay build. Your combo deals more than 6K solo target damage with this build, I have obliterated 2 tanks at once quite a few times ( ofcourse the healer was not nearby )
Another combo that makes it's way harder to play KTZ but WAY more rewarding is getting shade of nax on lvl 20. this way you actually one shot tanks! It's way harder because it's another keypress together with you needing better aim for double Q damage. But damn is it satisfying to oneshot 2 tanks in a perfect scenario
you know i always try to do e then w then e ...but for some reason i do e e then w and most of the times it works but not always ...its really hard to do e w e for me ..:(
The title should have been "easier". The crazy thing about this combo is that you have to hit two skill shots on two different targets in a very short amount of time.
I've seen it picked up instead of hard engage, it's a bad idea since it weakens you so much, but if you still haven't finished half your trait quest at L10 then maybe since it would allow you to setup an engage against a team of Tracer/Genji/etc. But really, if your missing that much your either in QM and just got outplayed by the matchmaker, or your new at him and probably still in AI/QM so you may as well keep practising the combo. If you first picked him in HL/TL and the enemy counter picked you entirely after that, then go for Frost Blast and fire it from out of line of sight to get an engage for your team, if they picked nothing but counters they probably don't have the greatest team for a forced fight. And they can't dodge while frozen.
Other ult is more about saving yourself from trouble, it's doable but not great Can be great as a followup CC (if timed right) though, but then if your team just CC someone, you can use Fissure GLOBALLY on the map, meaning your presence isn't even required for a blowup gank lol
Normal heroes E-W, mobile heroes E-R-W Or maybe if quest Nova on lvl1 as opposed to chains then maybe E-W would work always, alas though, noone picks that talent cause -10 armor is huge for blowup on the combo
yea but just to destroy zarya shield is not worth for total game either. i mean you can heal up great amount yourself with globe talent+ you can ressurrect yourself in a key moments especialy late games. even vs zarya i don't pick that talent %90 of my games as main ktz player.
You forgot a point that I thought would be really important: when you've got the chain on an enemy, and then shoot it toward another enemy to chain them together, if the chain hits it will drag them together AT THE POSITION OF YOUR MOUSE. if your mouse is closer to the first target, that one will barely move at all while the second will get yanked across the screen, and visa versa, and doing it in the middle will be inbetween the two. essentially just point your mouse in a line toward the other target and press all the buttons.
No regrets, but I quickly decided he wasn't for me, the delay on his abilities just rubbed me the wrong way so much. Funny though, I don't feel the same with Orphea, maybe I should try him again.
It's still impossible to pull off in QM against an enemy team that constantly dives and moves. He's a trash hero, never pick him ever unless you're a disgusting sweaty pos.
@@Waschlappen23 sometimes people with mobility ability can escape fissure even if they got rooted since root lasts 1 sec and ult delay is 1.5, most notably Tracer can avoid it pretty easily.
You need to land R + W at same time vs enemies that leave roots with abilities, RIGHT WHEN THEY GET STUN FROM THE CHAINS. You'll need to calculate the chain's projectile speed also, to make this works, in this scenario. Close ppl, you need to use the second chain ~1.5s after R and ~1s after W, while spread ppl, you need to use the second chain ~1s after R and ~0.5s after W. YEAH, IT'S HELLA COMPLICATED! (vs bad matchups, without mastering it, you will suffer)
Can you explain why the enemies Kel'Thuzads chain is always 3 times longer than mine?
It's the way Ktz welcomes Interlopers.
Genetics
It's just momentum. If they are dashing the animation makes it seem like it's longer
The chain appears to grow faster if the target is moving in the opposite direction of the chain flying meaning that you may have been in range when the chain was fired by as the person moves away it appears longer as the chain doesn't move with the person chained.

Plus you can pick other talents like the 3rd talent at 13 which gives you a lot more chains if you hit succesfully each of them aaand boom. You are a cancer ktz for enemy team.
Thank you Sir! I've been meaning to master this combo. and this helped a lot!
Did they rework how chains are aimed at some point or do I just not understand it?
I have the problem that the second chain that goes off from the enemy hero, does not fire off in the angle I want it to. Sometimes it feels like it automatically aims to the closest heroes position. If that one moves, you miss behind it.
However, sometimes it feels like the chains base is turning, thus overaiming
I'm really confused and demotivated as I can't spot consistency.
I mean in the try mode you can literally slow time so you can explain what is happening
it's not that hard, you can slow the video itself with the youtube tools if you want to
Yeah, but one person changing his game settings vs thousands of other people having to change their settings? Makes sense for the media creator to make it easier for the viewers?
sneaky spike is my fav, you are very clever/smart, nicely done , and thanks for sharing.
ok thats cool but how do you hit the chains on moving targets? i reached lvl 16 with ktz but mostly I'm still a negative for my team because I miss the combo each and every damn time and I don't know where to improve. When I take longer to hit my combo the enemies are already gone and nothing comes of it. It's damn frustrating.
This is amazing, thanks man
Can you upload an updated malfurion video with his recent changes?
Do you recomend quick cast, on release or normal?
Normal is 75% impossible to do comboes, this may be the very first (if not the very single) hero I started playing on On-Release mode for
@@VArsovski10 nope. as a main ktz player i never used quick cast and can do almost all my combos well. i only use R as qc tbh. rest is normal.
Do you recommend ever getting the other ult for some reason?
Only reason you'd want to consider it, you first picked KTZ and then the enemy team picked nothing but counters to you.
Frost Blast can force a team fight and if they have Tracer/Genji/Abathur your team can probably mop them up after you lock them down.
Best Stack Combo: Mouse Target, E, Mouse Collision, W , E, R , Q, AA
Stack Starter Combo: Mouse Target, E, Mouse Collision, W, E
Basic Spike: E, Spike, W, E, Q, AA
Sneaky Spike: Spike (hidden), E , W , E ,Q ,AA
Tips: Practice doing the combo fast
Don't move your mouse too much.
A tip for tanks main that if you see an overextended backline that is about to get chained to an ice block you should try to catch the chain instead so it clings to you making him waste combo
Edit: If he has the chain already on him , if the chain on ice block it should not matter.
Your channel is a lifesaver. Thank you
The channel is nice, but how the hell did he save your life with it?
Amazing video!! Loved it! Thanks for the tips on KTz!
Just for the records, another great counter to Kelthuzad is Tracer, hard to hit with his skills and she can also chase him down to death.
Not really. A decent ktz will get the armor at 4 and not put himself in danger of dying to a tracer. Just get anub/garrosh/muradin as main tank and some follow-up damage.
As a KTz player I very rarely (almost never) ban Tracer, Genji on the other hand is a 100% MUST BAN though
Yes, Tracer kills KT but you leave her on less than 10% HP when she commits for the kill, which means if your team watches out what's going on you trade for one another (sometimes even you yourself can trade if she's a bit bruised before you two engage on one another)
And most of the times your team without KT is less of a detriment than opponent's team without Tracer
Did they nerf his damage? I can't pull these numbers even while testing and replicating the combo.
I like using tanks as pseudo glacial spike; instead of scrambling past the tank to reach backlane. Because you cant one shot him, doesnt mean you cant take him out of fight for a bit along with a backlaner.
can you give tips for Valeera ? She's a wee bit hard for beginners.
He has a video of how to use her combos properly . Veleera is a hard hero so that video could help.
That first combo with shade and max ur q can del enough damage to kill a tank at lvl 20
Well done! An excellent video with great tips
How do i even enter this training battleground ? If i choose training i am on a normal map with bots.
collection/heroes/try hero(bottom-left corner)
Whre do you get in tht mode?? for training??
i know this is out of date, but could you please make a video of you in a masters game with KTZ? it would help a lot of us, i think.
I'm assuming all abilities are on quick cast?
Spike in Bush is visible to the other team?
no unless you are near of a bush and they see you cast something but not visible. so they might notice what you gonna do :p
you know i always try to do e then w then e ...but for some reason i do e e then w and most of the times it works but not always ...its really hard to do e w e for me ..:(
The title should have been "easier". The crazy thing about this combo is that you have to hit two skill shots on two different targets in a very short amount of time.
what about the other ult? is it worth it?
No. He has plenty of cc already and the 16 second cool down makes this combo available a lot more
I've seen it picked up instead of hard engage, it's a bad idea since it weakens you so much, but if you still haven't finished half your trait quest at L10 then maybe since it would allow you to setup an engage against a team of Tracer/Genji/etc.
Other ult is more about saving yourself from trouble, it's doable but not great
Can be great as a followup CC (if timed right) though, but then if your team just CC someone, you can use Fissure GLOBALLY on the map, meaning your presence isn't even required for a blowup gank lol
Yep...when I play him..I always hope the e to be a little longer...better as long as stiches old hook
Do a video on Malthael just acquired him after your solo landing video
Thanks for the great content
really hard to master but very rewarding
Great content, as usual
Sneaky Spike
Loving ur dedication to this game
im never gonna play this scumbag hero, but thanks for sharing his secrets.
FIRST !
Very nice I just started playing a lot of Kel'Thuzad too x)
Love your videos.
Is it EWRQ or ERWQ? people are arguing both ways.
Normal heroes E-W, mobile heroes E-R-W
Or maybe if quest Nova on lvl1 as opposed to chains then maybe E-W would work always, alas though, noone picks that talent cause -10 armor is huge for blowup on the combo
My fastest stack was 4.23 min but usually between 6 - 7 min.
i suck with Kel...this combos are so hard to execute in TL :'(
you sounded like you were in a hurry explaining the video XD .
the fastest i've stacked the passive with ktz was under 3 min
ktz is bae
oh my god you only move your mouse twiceeeeeeeee
My record was lvl 4 on braxis holdout fully stacked lol
Teaching KTZ combos without quickcast on OMEGALUL
Pst. Quick cast has two settings...
I prefiere to use first the Q Than the R but nice vidéo ;P
Kel'what?
I cant stand his chain animation. Its range is so deceiving and i find it very hard to get used to with quick cast.
i have 4k5 damage with this combo in the same conditions...
KTZ's level 4 talent makes his chains blow up zarya's shields, just sayin
yea but just to destroy zarya shield is not worth for total game either. i mean you can heal up great amount yourself with globe talent+ you can ressurrect yourself in a key moments especialy late games. even vs zarya i don't pick that talent %90 of my games as main ktz player.
Yo Can i have thebuild please ^^ ty a lot
Chain, Phylactery, Chilling touch, fissure, chains slow, rooted enemies take more dmg, damned return
heroeshearth.com/builds/NotParadox/simple-combo-build-with-video-explanation/
Ty a lot it was juste to confirme (sorry this english ) :p
You forgot a point that I thought would be really important: when you've got the chain on an enemy, and then shoot it toward another enemy to chain them together, if the chain hits it will drag them together AT THE POSITION OF YOUR MOUSE. if your mouse is closer to the first target, that one will barely move at all while the second will get yanked across the screen, and visa versa, and doing it in the middle will be inbetween the two. essentially just point your mouse in a line toward the other target and press all the buttons.
This is not hearthstone one dislike.
Holy shit
fckin op hero, insane range, insane dmg and stun ; wtf is this? pick or ban is only way
I hate this hero... perhaps the only hero I regretted buying/unlocking.
Use R before W ;)
disagree... w is more important because if w hits r will hit too
@@Waschlappen23 sometimes people with mobility ability can escape fissure even if they got rooted since root lasts 1 sec and ult delay is 1.5, most notably Tracer can avoid it pretty easily.
@@Waschlappen23 no true, if u get barbed chains which u should, people like genji and tracer can avoid the r if u do w first
Are we not abandoning the sinking ship yet? :D
i like everything sneaky
against bots seems easy... next time try on pvp
Press F, rip hots
the combo you taught is not the best. EWRE is the real best combo
