The movie was so..invasive it summed up everything, i was have existential crises when i saw it and idk it just made my existential crises..acceptable? It was a hug that it wasn’t supposed to make you feel better..but it made you feel at peace with all of that. It gave a strong message that life wasn’t supposed to be beautiful, it will never be, life is just life.
Love the original version sung by Elis Regina and Tom Jobim (our kings), but I gotta be honest: I might not like how some of the lyrics don't translate as nicely to english, but maaan, I love how melancholic this version sounds.
I think the English translation also just works really well for showing people Bossa Nova for the first time since the lyrics hit differently when you can understand them. I played the Spanish translation while my cousin was in the car and she didn’t care very much, then the English translation 1 month later and she loved it
The original is also a melancholy song. In Brazil, in the southern hemisphere, the end of March marks the transition into fall/winter. The line in the original, "fechando o verão" translates to the "end of summer."
Listen this version:ua-cam.com/video/7A0gVE65kIY/v-deo.htmlsi=WczA29lPGcszmhVR This is the first version of waters of march.I think that art garfunkel made a certain mix with this first version, and the version with elis regina,it was wonderful.
I heard this song in a bookstore last year and didnt know the name of it and it was killing me. I turn this movie on a few days ago and hear this at the end - man, lemme tell you, I've never looked up a movie soundtrack so fast in my life.
Such a beautiful fit to an incredible film!! I loved the soundtrack right the way through but as soon as this song played in the credits it really hit hard💜💜
A stick, a stone, it's the end of the road It's the rest of a stump, it's a little alone It's a sliver of glass, it is life, it's the sun It is night, it is death, it's a trap, it's a gun The oak when it blooms, a fox in the brush A knot in the wood, the song of a thrush The wood of the wind, a cliff, a fall A scratch, a lump, it is nothing at all It's the wind blowing free, it's the end of the slope It's a beam, it's a void, it's a hunch, it's a hope And the river bank talks of the waters of March It's the end of the strain, it's the joy in your heart The foot, the ground, the flesh and the bone The beat of the road, a slingshot's stone A fish, a flash, a silvery glow A fight, a bet, the flange of a bow The bed of the well, the end of the line The dismay in the face, it's a loss, it's a find A spear, a spike, a point, a nail A drip, a drop, the end of the tale A truckload of bricks in the soft morning light The sound of a gun in the dead of the night A mile, a must, a thrust, a bump, It's a girl, it's a rhyme, it's a cold, it's the mumps The plan of the house, the body in bed And the car that got stuck, it's the mud, it's the mud A float, a drift, a flight, a wing A hawk, a quail, the promise of spring And the river bank talks of the waters of March It's the promise of life, it's the joy in your heart A snake, a stick, it is John, it is Joe It's a thorn on your hand and a cut in your toe A point, a grain, a bee, a bite A blink, a buzzard, a sudden stroke of night A pin, a needle, a sting, a pain A snail, a riddle, a wasp or a stain A pass in the mountains, a horse and a mule In the distance the shelves rode three shadows of blue And the river bank talks of the waters of March It's the promise of life in your heart, in your heart A stick, a stone, the end of the road The rest of a stump, a lonesome road A sliver of glass, a life, the sun A knife, a death, the end of the run And the river bank talks of the waters of March It's the end of all strain, it's the joy in your heart
I used to listen to aguas d marco by elis Regina but this final broke my heart in a million pieces Now it is more valuable than this version I never expected to listen to this song in this movie it's such a masterpiece. At the end it's Life
Art Garfunkel's interval skips are flowing and accurate in pitch. Yet somehow, I don't feel the sense of the lyrics, the "meaning beyond the words." This song is challenging, because all of the lyrics are phrases, seemingly disjointed. So, it is important to look behind and in between the words at those things that are implied and unspoken (as a person would do who speaks Japanese and wants to know the true heart of the speaker). Mr. Garfunkel's voice is excellent. I wish him well wish his future endeavors.
@@kmm2442 I’d rather say it’s about people. The cycles we go trough life. How one can ,like the Norwegians say, feel like ‘the worst person in the world’. Decisions you make in life that can’t be reversed.

@Ties Boomstra: it’s a translation from a Brazilian song - ‘The Waters of March’ - in the Southern Hemisphere, March (our beginning of Spring) is the beginning of Fall - most welcome after the heat of Summer! This is not a literal translation - it suggests that your ‘real’ life can begin (or end) at any single moment...’just when you least expect it, just what you least expect’... In the meantime, we just carry on...it’s not about trying to make it ‘work’, but about enjoying what comes your way! 🙏🏻🌹🙏🏽
It's just poetry -painting a picture of the randomness of life unfolding through all these things you may encounter good or bad but without judgement because they will exist. Because that is life -a cycle with beginnings and endings and renewals from spring rain. No rain no gain. It fits the concept of the movie perfectly. She could be a sweet girl or the worst person in the world depending on perspective, but really she was just moving through life as it unfolded in all its randomness.
I heard that the original Bossa Nova song captures the death and loss of the disaster by flood due to waters of March in the Southern Hemisphere. Knowing this, I love Art Garfunkel's way of singing this song.
I heard this song for the first time while watching this movie. I've fallen in love with it... :)

Try Georges Moustaki's version 'Les eaux de mars'. In my opinion, the best non-Brazilian rendition of this beautiful song.
