2006-2016 Sant Andreu Jazz Band 10 anys Un sueño hecho realitat

The fact that they are not Brazilian but Catalans and sing in Portuguese with slight accent makes it even more charming. Congratulations!
They’re Spanish. And yes, we have such amazing talent in this country, from North to South
Let us not forget that right to the West of Spain (Catalonia is a region of Spain) is Portugal, where Portuguese originated.
It happens that the Portuguese from Portugal sounds quite different from the Portuguese from Brazil, where this song was composed.
Esse sotaque deu um charme especial ! 👏👏👏
Every once in a while I return to this video. I truly think this is my favorite rendition of any song, ever. They're having so much fun singing it that I shed tears in joy
agree
Truly

One day as a teen, I saw a commercial on Adult Swim. Sealab 2021. I didn't know the song, but i loved that commercial. Years later popped in my head and I hit the Google. Finally had the name of song and artist. Then found a video of Elis Regina & Tom Jobim singing it. It made me Smile. Came back years later while re-watching the episode of Archer when they go on a mission to a underWATER laboratory. This video popped up after Elis and Tom video in the suggestions. I can say 1. This made me wish I got to play this back in high school band(class of '03) 2. I smiled again.
I wish my high school concerts sounded like this
you can actually hear the fun they have in their voices.
Just like Elis Regina and A.C. Jobim when they recorded it. I love this so much.
This recording is beautiful; the song, the singers, and everyone involved created magic that night. Alba, with childlike earnestness and beautiful voice paired so well with Rita, who countered with a relaxed and benevolent sense of fun. Each girl was seen to influence the other's performance, in the moment, and beams of joy passed between them. The song was new to me until a week ago, and like so many others I fell in love with it. I love the 1974 version with Jobim and Regina for some of the same reasons: the elements of both contrast and rapport are present. They seemed like dear friends, but it has been said that she did not really like him.
This Is Absolute Pure Genius. These Young People Are Amazing!!! I Was Stunned The First Time I Heard This. In fact, I Was Busy Working, I Wasn't Even Watching. It Sounded SO Good, I Had To Drop Everything I was Doing To Go Watch The Video.
All I Can Say Is.......DAMN!!!!
GREAT PERFORMANCE.
BRAVO!!! 🥂
This is Joel Frahm here. I can’t tell you how proud I am of having been asked to play with Joan and all of his marvelous young musicians. This particular performance brings tears to my eyes every single time I’ve heard it. The attention to detail paid by the band and vocalists is second to none. The joy and emotion in tandem with the hard work they’ve put in makes them an ensemble like no other I’ve encountered. Bravo to Joan and all of the musicians that have gone through this band.
Wow Mr. Frahm. I am sure that for the young musicians of SAJB it was a privilege to play with you. You just have to look at their faces every time you deliver your fantastic music. They surely learnt a lot from you.
As for me, as a member of the audience, I can assure you that we enjoyed every note you played, either with the tenor or the soprano sax. A huge thank you!
saxnova thats a awesome opportunity you had.
Mr. Frahm, your playing is phenomenal. I would love be able to play sax only half as well!
Rapping but more like music. I've been a fan for a long time ,well long time for the young-ons.
These gals raised your game! :)
Who else got goosebumps while listening to this awesome performance?
Furthermore, the 2 girls were laughing all the time while singing in addition to the saxophonist behind them! So adorable!
This is the single most infectiously happy video on the internet, in every way. Seen it a thousand times and I still walk away with a huge smile on my face.
Did you know that bossa nova is something very different from this shit that is jazz?
@@gilberto2056 It's the same arrangement used by Tom Jobim and Elis regina . Could Tom be wrong ?
@@gilberto2056 Did you know that you come across as an opinionated snob?

Amo la Bossa Nova do Brasil! Jobim GENIO!! Saludos desde Argentina!

Sometimes I think the Portuguese language is the most beautiful in the world.
For me it's spanish! And i'm half brasilian (i don't speak portuguese 😬)
Gunga meats thinks so too
I tend to think it is, period.
I completely agree!
I'm brazilian.
The portuguese idiom is synonym of grace and pleasure to life!
It's certainly the most beautiful romance language in my opinion. And is especially beautiful when sung. I so think english and japanese are beautiful though.
This band brought me to a wonderful appreciation and exploration of Brazilian music and to the discovery of Rita Payes, Elisabeth Roma, Carminho, and many other beautiful artists. It is amazing that these musicians from Spain have taken me on this journey.
The Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation in the vocals is not so good, but not that bad for Spanish or Catalan native speakers.
Portuguese has a difficult pronunciation anyway and it takes many years of training to perfect it.
oh man that sax solo, every note is beautiful
Joel Frahm has contributed to a number of SAJB performances and always exquisitely appropriately!
This performance is one of the most beautiful things on the internet!
IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD has there ever been a greater concentration of talent than what was on this stage for this concert? It's like a Manhattan Project for music, good will and healing.
There has been, very many times. It's healing and amazing and emoting every single time.
Thank you to Joan Chamorro for bringing the next generation of brilliant musicians to fruition. I've been following the musical growth of Rita Payes on UA-cam, and her current collaborations with her mother are exceptionally good.
The saxophonist's face at 3:51 portrays what I felt listening to this master piece. The musicians are great, but these girls' performance is amazing
I've seen this video so many times, and every time it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for your beautiful work and art.
Same thing, so good it makes me cry!
3:54 the conductor has the smile of knowing all is perfect in the world at that moment.
After 2 years of finding this video, this is still my favorite sax solo of all time.
I don't know how many times I've watched this video over the past few years but it never gets old!!! Today, I just watched Alba's and Rita's latest videos and, boy-oh-boy, did they develop into wonderful musicians!!!
Imagina Tom Jobim vendo e ouvindo isso , show
I do not know who is the luckiest. The young people for having Mr Chamorro to teach them or Mr Chamorro for having so much obvious fun conducting these wonderful young people. Or me for being able to watch, listen and totally enjoy all of them.
Yes! Couldn't agree with you more!
such a fabulous band leader wit so much talent. Fabo
It's you listening. You're the lucky one.
Must be something in the water over yondah to have such fabulous talent
Iam the lucky one...
Absolutely amazing, the vocal duet and the tenor solo, the orchestra and the arrangements...the Barcelona school of Jazz...Viva Joan!
Elegance, a perfect minimalism, strikes us as beautiful because its clarity of form and purpose is apprehended at one go. Joel Frahm's solo is a perfect gem, elegant in this joyful setting of a list of everyday human delights.
The first time I listened to "Waters Of March" was in 1974, by Sergio Mendes. The second time was with Basia. The third time was with Akiko and Corrine Drewery (Swing Out Sister). And now this wonderful performance. There's something special about listening to an orchestral symphony. The sound quality of this performance is beautiful to hear, especially when they're performing "Waters Of March".
Two wonderful singers having fun, Maestro Chamorro directing the band, the muted trumpets in the background, Joel Frahm's classy sax solo, Magali working that bass! When you put it all together you get excellence!
SENSACIONAL!!!!!!
I don't think any place that cherishes music gives young people as much chance to advance and explore music like Joan Chamorro jazz band. I will never have enough of your music and excitement of amazing young players.
It makes me SO happy that young people not only remember and appreciate these classics, but breathe new life into them with their energy, enthusiasm and talent
I discovered Joan Chamorro a few weeks ago after watching one of Andrea Motis' songs on UA-cam (Lullaby of Birdland). I was totally blown away! The superb musicality of the youngsters and older musicians made me realise what true musicians are. Since then I've watched many of the videos, and I have found my love of jazz rekindled! This video is the best of them all. Everything id perfect. Two beautiful young ladies who are obviously having great fun, surrounded by their fellow youngsters playing at top, top quality. Accompanied by Joan and Joel they produce the most uplifting song I have ever heard! The faces of all of them show such happiness and pleasure, each appreciating the others talent. I always come away from this video saying "Wonderful, simply wonderful",. I have been through some hard times lately, and this video never fails to lift my spirit and remind me about how to appreciate what I have. When you see some of the trash paraded as talent these days, these ladies don't need to prance about the stage dressed like.. well you know what, they are superbly talented. Joan, you deserve a medal!!
Sant Andreu Jazz Band is high on my list of Things That Are Right With The World.
I can't imagine how incredibly proud their parents, teacher and community are. Incredible talent; much needed brightness for the future of humanity.
I loved this.
I found it for the first time a few days ago and now I cannot stop playing and replaying it. It's my new "go to" song for when I need a pick-me-up.
Wonderfully done!
Same for me but I discovered it about 5 hours ago from the Trader Joe’s commercial!
Check the '72 original: Antonio Carlos ( Tom ) Jobim w/ Elis Regina, or any of Elis performing this Jewel. Tom Jobim wrote the Song " Águas de Março "...

Yes! I checked it out and love it. Joan’s ensemble arrangement of Tom’s classic is sublime.
Woah! I'm from Brazil grew up loving this song.
This is one of my favourite performances of Elis Regina, thanks for it!
Thank you for you commenting in English. I really like the Portuguese, but I don't understand it.
I love both versions of the song. But I listen to this one a lot more. I love the youth, spontaneous singing of these two young girls here. Everything is put together so well and joyful.
They play really cool and i really love this song. Respect from Malaysia 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
muito bom from america! brasil has a special place in my heart, warm friendly people and an astonishingly beautiful language!!
Agree, but even more fascinating is it that these musicians are not Brazilian, but from Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), far apart on another continent. Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro are 5300 miles, or 8500 kms, apart. But that just makes this recording even more extraordinary!
Oooh yes! Amazing! Nice portuguese! Its very hard to sing this song in portuguese!! Thank you. Regards from Brazil.

It's marvelous to see young people playing and singing high quality music. 😁🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Perfeito!
You have to give credit to the professionalism and the joy that these young folks bring to a form of music that is dying in Gringoland. Seems these days you wanna hear good swingin' jazz music -- not the street noise jive & sheets of sound crap that people think is jazz today -- you have to go to Europe. I met so many talented musicians in Iberia . . . and missed this entire crew. Come the day the plague is not so oppressive, I hope I'm still breathing to go back find all these wonderful young folks crankin' it out.
The day Astrud Gilberto died I was listening to her music on my music app. This performance played after on auto-play. I've been hooked ever since. Not only on this piece but on the music of both Rita Payes and Alba Armengou. Can't wait to dive deeper into their music and the works of director Chamorro. Much love from California!
Eu.
Wow, just Fantastic !!
What a great tight song !! phenomenal tone and execution !!
I just love everything Joan Chamorro and the school does. I am a big Fan of Alba

As a Brasilian I feel very honored with this performance. Thank you! This is actually very hard to sing for non Brasilians.
Viva Brasil y viva por estos jóvenes
If I had a time machine, this room on this night would be one of my first stops.
It's so nice to see how proud the band leader about his young singer is - this band project is really great and lovely :-)
Um orgulho que ainda nos resta !!
Salve Tom Jobim !!
Maestro Joan Chamorro, thank you very much for providing us with such a beautiful performance. Antonio Carlos Jobim's work is beautiful and this song brings back very particular memories of the time when I was 10 years old, when I was with my father, in the car traveling along the roads of Brazil and listening to this beautiful song on the radio.
Thank you for bringing back such sweet memories.
God bless you!

This version is the first time I heard this song. It's now one of my favorites. And this version by a band full of, well ....apparently children! is most stunningly good. Really a great feel and the youngsters were clearly having fun but performing like pros. Great teachers and talent in Spain. I've listened to a lot of versions of the song and this is still one of my favorites.
totally agree. i first found this version years and years ago, and its 2024 now and im still coming back to listen to it.
Gracias!
The way he looks at them in the end is so heartwarming, he looks so proud of them~
Doesn't Joel Frahm sound just like Stan Getz....or are my old ears failing me?!! What a wonderful and delightful performnce from all....and what a classy bassist! Loved it....BRAVO!!!
This is probably my favorite version of this song... it is the sheer joy that comes through in the delivery of the song that supersedes all versions that have come before it.. It really does transports me to my "Happy Place". I think that this is the effect that music aspires to, and on the odd occasion, does. This is one of those occasions.
Brilliant!!! So lovely young people! Its heartwarming! 😢😢
Que maravilha encontrar essa interpretação! Lindas meninas cantando nossa Águas de Março 💚
When I heard this recording for the first time, I immediately fell in love. The band, the vibe, the tune. It's all on another level. I've heard Joel Frahm before, so I knew we would be in capable hands. Everybody who know his playing know that he can play just about anything on the horn. But then the solo started and my jaw just dropped to the floor. He can rip the band and the tune apart like nobody else, but being the musical mastermind he is, he just elevates everything around him, lifting the whole performance to something nobody could have expected.
I know the tune and solo by heart, and if I'm feeling blue, I just pull this stuff out. Thx mr Frahm❤
Joel was sensational through the whole evening. I think his artistry, melodic inventiveness and exquisite taste was the perfect counter to the frenetic showmanship of other visiting guest artists they've had. This is giving the SAJB students the tools for that Getz/Gilberto crossover into wild popularity that will surely come.
@@fliprim agreed 😉👍
This is Joel Frahm here- thank you so much for the very kind comment. It means a lot. I feel very grateful to have a relationship with Joan and his wonderful young musicians.
@@saxnova Joel, I've loved all of Joan Chamorro's big name guests (frenetic and otherwise), but I can earnestly say that by your example I think you have given the next generation of Jazz musicians the courage to strive for that open-handed magic and clean elegance of line of which you appear to be the master. Jazz is also the pursuit of beauty... Your time with the band is a legacy that will stretch far into the future.

No better player than Joel for this exact moment. Joy, innocence, energy, wisdom skill, musicianship.
Adoro sus voces y melodías os quiero!! Gracias por agradar.
During this time with the band Joel Frahm created many tasteful solos and each one was so appropriate for the song. A great example for the talented young sax players (and all the players actually) in the band.
@@robertvanruyssevelt7159 True! This was one main quality I discovered in their 12+ songs in this concert!
This is my first comment in more than 10 years of abstaining myself of giving opinions in Social Media, but this work is so special that definitely the world is going to be a better place when this young generation will grow up. Good job Conductor !!
Well... the sad fact is that most of the current generation are NOT like these young people...
@@martinet1985 This great success might only be possible for a child in a musical family in Sant Andreu, a neighborhood in Barcelona, with the participation of the other young people in the class and their incredible music master, Joan Chamorro.

I can't stop listening to these magically charming kids... I get teared eyed every time I do. This genius song has a lot of great versions recorded of it already... But these teenagers! They are having so much innocent musical fun with it that can't ever be matched by adults. Mr. Chamorro has created the most incredible musical playground and an education center for kids who express themselves musically on an astonishing high level. Where did he get so many talented ones, only god knows... And how he finds the energy to demand and achieve such high level, is unexplainable.

Really the best version of "Àguas de março" in hole youtube...! I love it...!
agree
Listen to the original with Tom Jobim and go learn what the genius of a people is. Idiot.
Mr Chamorro does an incredible job with these kids. At their age, it’s like trying to herd cats into a basket. Not a single flat note or a note off tempo. The two singers aren’t just cute but their frasing is great. They play like seasoned professionals. I grew up on the golden years of Bossa Nova listening to the likes of Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Astrud Gilbert and João Gilbert. That was before bossa nova became standard issue on elevator background music. I really love his band. Well done, kids.
English Lyrics: Águas de Março (English: "The Waters of March") is a Brazilian song composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim in 1972. The lyrics, originally written in Portuguese, do not tell a story, but rather present a series of images that form a collage; nearly every line starts with "É..." ("It is...").
The inspiration for "Águas de Março" came from Rio de Janeiro's rainiest month, March, with heavy rain that causes flooding in many places around the city.
The lyrics and the music have a constant downward progression much like the water torrents flowing in the gutters of Rio de Janeiro in March, typically carrying sticks, stones, bits of glass, and almost everything and anything.
Jobim also wrote this version of the lyrics in English:
A stick, a stone
It's the end of the road
It's the rest of a stump
It's a little alone
It's a sliver of glass
It is life, it's the sun
It is night, it is death
It's a trap, it's a gun
The oak when it blooms
A fox in the brush
A knot in the wood
The song of a thrush
The wood of the wind
A cliff, a fall
A scratch, a lump
It is nothing at all
It's the wind blowing free
It's the end of the slope
It's a beam, it's a void
It's a hunch, it's a hope
And the river bank talks
Of the waters of March
It's the end of the strain
The joy in your heart
The foot, the ground
The flesh and the bone
The beat of the road
A slingshot's stone
A fish, a flash
A silvery glow
A fight, a bet
The range of a bow
The bed of the well
The end of the line
The dismay in the face
It's a loss, it's a find
A spear, a spike
A point, a nail
A drip, a drop
The end of the tale
A truckload of bricks
In the soft morning light
The shot of a gun
In the dead of the night
A mile, a must
A thrust, a bump
It's a girl, it's a rhyme
It's a cold, it's the mumps
The plan of the house
The body in bed
And the car that got stuck
It's the mud, it's the mud
Afloat, adrift
A flight, a wing
A hawk, a quail
The promise of spring
And the riverbank talks
Of the waters of March
It's the promise of life
It's the joy in your heart
A stick, a stone
It's the end of the road
It's the rest of a stump
It's a little alone
A snake, a stick
It is John, it is Joe
It's a thorn in your hand
And a cut in your toe
A point, a grain
A bee, a bite
A blink, a buzzard
A sudden stroke of night
A pin, a needle
A sting, a pain
A snail, a riddle
A wasp, a stain
A pass in the mountains
A horse and a mule
In the distance the shelves
Rode three shadows of blue
And the riverbank talks
Of the waters of March
It's the promise of life
In your heart, in your heart
A stick, a stone
The end of the road
The rest of a stump
A lonesome road
A sliver of glass
A life, the sun
A knife, a death
The end of the run
And the riverbank talks
Of the waters of March
It's the end of all strain
It's the joy in your heart

This is a brilliant arrangement of a great song played to perfection, the girls are delightful and Joel Frahm's solo is beautiful!
What a treat to see Alba, Rita, Magali with Joel at one time together. This on e is the tops. Bill Burrows
Tom Jobim is smiling from the heavens above!!
É pau, é pedra, é o fim do camino
É a chuva chovendo, é conversa ribeira
É o pé, é o chao, é a marcha estradeira
Passarinho na mao, pedra de atiradeira
Uma ave no céu, uma ave no chao
É um regato, é uma fonte É um pedaco de pao
É o fundo do poco, é o fim do caminho
É o carro enguicado, é a lama, é a lama
É um passo, é uma ponte
É um sapo, é uma ra
É um resto de mato, na luz da manha
Sao as aguas de marco fechando o verao
É a promessa de vida no teu coracao
É pau, é pedra, é o fim do caminho
É pau, é pedra, é o fim do caminho
É pau, é pedra, é o fim do caminho
É pau, é pedra, é o fim do caminho
Pau, pedra, fim do caminho
Resto de toco, pouco sozinho
Pau, pedra, fim do caminho,
Music is the universal language.. even though I don't understand Portuguese it's a beautiful language.. I can't help smile when watching the girls perform along with all the gifted musicians..
So happy it brings tears to my eyes. maravilhoso.
