Chungking Express (重庆森林) [literally "Chungking Forest"] directed by Wong Kar-wai
Music: The Mamas & the Papas - California Dreamin'
Lyrics:
"All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown)
And the sky is grey (and the sky is grey)
I've been for a walk (I've been for a walk)
On a winter's day (on a winter's day)
I'd be safe and warm (I'd be safe and warm)
If I was in L.A. (if I was in L.A.)
California dreamin' (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day
Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees (got down on my knees)
And I pretend to pray (I pretend to pray)
You know the preacher like the cold (preacher like the cold)
He knows I'm gonna stay (knows I'm gonna stay)
California dreamin' (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day
All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown)
And the sky is grey (and the sky is grey)
I've been for a walk (I've been for a walk)
On a winter's day (on a winter's day)
If I didn't tell her (if I didn't tell her)
I could leave today (I could leave today)
California dreamin' (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day"

This actress kills the game. I'm sure the director was in love to shoot her like that.
i've heard that she was acting like a rockstar (in fact she was a singer very famous in china); she nailed the character without even rehearse; and once she shot all the scenes she had to do, she would then leave the set till the next day.
And the this story was better than the first one..Faye just nailed it

The guard actor is one of the most charismatic actors I have ever seen. He makes u wanna be friends with him idk
You're talking about Tony Leung? He was my celebrity crush in my early teens. I had a couple posters and a few pinups of him 😆. I watched him since I was a kid back when he was only a TV actor but nonetheless already a top 5 TV actor at the time. He must be the most complete Hong Kong actor ever. A star on both the small screen and big screen and known internationally also. Jackie Chan is a bigger star and more known internationally but not a complete actor. Jackie Chan was never a TV actor and his type of roles is limited. Tony Leung on the other hand can play anything from comedy, drama to action.
Ikr! I always said he's got a very friendly face
That's a police constable he plays though, not a security guard.
Yeah that guard actor is probably the most famous Asian right now thanks to Shanghi. He should win an Oscar for that performance in Shangshi.lol

I remember after I watched this movie for the first time, i couldn't get enough of it and kept searching and searching for similar movies. Before Sunrise, Midnight in Paris, The scent of Green papaya, Fallen Angels...I watched it all in pursuit of the same whimsical feel this movie so beautifully encompassed . And while all of them were extremely enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing, I never found in them the same feelings and sensations that chungking express evoked in me . And that's when I realised that there simply isn't any movie out there that has brings this whimsical, hopeful, nostalgic vibe quite as well as this one does. Chungking Express is a classic for that reason, it can't be replicated and there's no movie quite like this. Wong karwai's best work truly.

Not to compare these two movies, but I feel like you might like "Happy Together" as well. But there is definitely no innocence, mostly melancholy, so idk if it's your cup of tea. But it had it's own vibes for sure

I love Faye. She's not afraid to let out her little inner child and enjoy life a little. A simple thing that is hard to do but we all need
If your heart is as natural as faye you don't need to look for someone to being loved. you'll loved by someone who is very special one day. Trust me❣️
It was 07 or 08. I was 14 and we were on vacation in Malaysia with my parents and my brother. I was doing the rounds of rides in the amusement park in Genting Highlands when I spotted a girl at the bumper cars. She was really cute and I was completely smitten. I went on the bumper cars for 4 rounds just because she went too. During one round, we were going to collide head on, I saw her close her eyes and brace for impact. At the last second I veered right and narrowly missed her. (yeah simp whatever). That was the last round after which she disappeared somewhere. I still think about this dumb thing sometimes wondering what ever happened to her. Reason I'm recollecting this is coz she looked exactly like a younger version of the actress. The same almond shaped face, short hair, slim physique and a nonchalant attitude.
girls and dodgems. A vicious concoction
Sounds like something I'd do 💀
I have a similar story. In 1994, just out of college I was on my way to work riding the subway and there was this girl sitting adjacent to me. She's a black girl with radiant eyes and chiseled features. I was captivated by her look and I couldn't help it to dart my eyes back and forth on her face while avoiding eye contact. At one moment we locked eyes and we both immediately stared away from each other to avoid awkwardness. So the entire 15 minute ride we were playing eye contact hide and seek. The train arrived at my station so on my way walking out of train I turned around and gave her one last glance and noticing her looking at me too. I already stepped out of the train and the door was shut, through the train window I finally gave her a subtle hand wave and she waved back and even leaned forward from her seat as if she wanted to approach me. We were both looking at each other while the moving train continued to increase our distance. She was gone. Her slender frame and features reminded me of Faye Wong too. I too think about whatever happened to her and wonder what would happen if I had decided not to step out of that train. I probably would have made a new friend. . . or more. But I would have lost my job!
what is her race, chisnese, india, malay?

I saw this in an art house cinema in my hometown when it first came out in 1994. I loved the film, but can't now understand how I missed how beautiful Faye Wong and Tony Leung were/are .
Im only 15 years old, and my mom, who was born in the 70's, brought me to see this movie a couple months back. im so happy she did becase i dont know why but i love it
This movie takes me to a world that does not exist. I keep coming back to this movie and song every year since past 10 years. There’s something about this movie which is unexplainable. Innocence of this girl, sadness and loneliness of the cop and foolishness and hopeless romantic nature of the first guy all these things which do not exist today. Something is which cannot be remade!
they do exist
I like that way she dances when "California Dreamin" comes

If you willing to read this, thank you.
I'm an asian, and this song is making me want to go out there and chasing that american dream. I know, a lot of thing is happening right now. But the american dream never go away. In my country, going to america, even to open a nails bar or working in service is like the restart, a fresh start for every one who want to escape the old life and do it all over again in the states. We work, we saving money and we try to start a business or going to college in the states. A lot of our asian brothers and sisters do the same, if they are American Born, so their parents is the one fighting and sacrifice for their children life.
Why am I saying this? Is because when I have grown up a little bit and have chances to meet new people, lots of western people assume us as some kind of rich or extraordinary human being, which we don't. We just come to your country, settle down, try to work and hopefully we can make our life better.

And good luck on your decisions
Just go, you already know the language so it is a huge advantage already. Good luck.

Hong Kong and Tokyo in 90s were really amazing and special places
Wrong. Hong Kong in the 90's, Tokyo in the 80's and early 90's. Hong kong dvelopment would have been more balanced under Chinese rule from the start imo
