Okay guys in this video I go over the history of the Plesiosaurus in the Jurassic Park Franchise! Oddly enough this aquatic reptile has actually been in talks to star in a couple of JP stories for quite a while now. The most recent of which being Jurassic World! It is also about to get it's very own brand new Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom toy from Mattel! So that should be REALLY cool! The Plesiosaur has always been one of my favorite prehistoric animals so it's cool to finally see that life finds a way for it all these years later. Hopefully we'll get to see it in action in the next movie! :D

Irony is almost all pop culture depictions of "Plesiosaurus" are actually based off the look of its bigger cousin, Elasmosaurus. Plesiosaurus dolichodeirus was actually relatively medium in neck length and about the size of a typical bottlenose dolphin.

Plesiosaurus was always one of my favourite aquatic creatures. As a child, it even was my favourite aquatic creature. Back than i had (and still have) a blue, plastic plesiosaurus toy, unfortunuately not a JP toy but still. I used to play with it in open air baths...it was just the right place, haha. Thats why Plesiosaurus always remembers me of summer and vacation hence why it will always have a special place in my childhood.

My personal head canon is that a pod of freshwater Plesiosaurs inhabit Isla Sorna's river system. We haven't encountered them yet for two reasons, 1: they're very shy (except when snatching nearby land prey) & 2: they stay closer to the southern side of the island in order to avoid encounters with the Spinosaururs. Underneath that derelict genetics laboratory we saw in JP III there's a huge water tank where InGen scientists bred the long necked creatures. After Sorna was abandoned in the 90s the tank's inner walls began crumbling, granting the Plesiosaurs access to the island's river system. Initially John Hammond intended the Plesiosaurs to be used for an interactive marine attraction, where park guests could pet, swim with & even ride the animals, similar to the dolphins at Sea World. Unfortunately that wouldn't be feasible because the Plesiosaurs proved difficult to control. They were very unpredictable creatures, one minute gentle & friendly the next aggressive & homicidal, having almost drowned several divers who entered their enclosure. Also, they tried dragging people into the tank so often it became necessary to install an electrified fence above the enclosure ala the Velociraptor cage from JP1. Peter Ludlow was aware of the Plesiosaurs existence but understood that just like the Pteranodons (Aviary breed), Carnotaurs & Velociraptors they were far too troublesome, so instructed his group to stay clear of the larger rivers.

T-Rexes, Velociraptors, Triceratopses and Nodosaurs and you need to shoot them with a gun. In some of the levels, you would run away in a boat and you had to kill aquatic creatures like some sort of piranhas and also Plesiosaurs :)

The Plesiosaurus for me is one of the most enigmatic creatures that ever lived in the depths of the ocean. However, I personally believe relics like the Plesiosaur still roam the waters. I think that there is a possibility some of these creatures survived extinction. I think Nessie, Ogopogo, Caddy, Champ, Morgawr and Mokele-mbembe are only a few examples of such a reality. Also, not to mention the stories of pterosaur-like creatures in Southeast Asia and even the Old West. I may be in small fringe for believing this, but I believe it's possible. Anyway, I've always been fascinated by the stories surrounding these sea serpents, but Plesiosaurs are a personal favorite.
I'm a fan of the Jurassic Park franchise, but would have loved to have seen the Plesiosaur teased in The Lost World film. I think that would've been cool if it had made it over into the sequel of the first Jurassic Park movie. Perhaps even Jurassic Park: Trespasser could've had it if Seamus Blackley's vision came to full fruition. I think it's safe to say that Klayton Fioriti is perhaps one of the most die-hard Jurassic Park fans out there. Star Wars has Star Wars Theory and JP/JW has Klayton.

plausible? yes. is it likely? no. they are all dead. we find no fossils or even bones younger than 65 million years. sad to say that they are all gone from this world. Anecdotes and folktales are not evidence. Those folk lore monsters you mentioned. soem of them live in northern lakes. Loch ness for example was formed by the last ice age and the lake can not support such an animal and its to cold

Plesiosaurs and mosasaurs are among the most popular marine reptiles. I've always said if Frontier is to do an aquatic DLC for JWE next year, they could have plesiosaur pond as an attraction alongside the mosasaurus feeding show. It's up to them if they want or can also do Plesiosaurus and Mosasaurus as solo animals alongside their attractions. Another idea is that Ludia add the mosasaurus feeding show as the 11th arena in JWA for Mosasaurus and Plesiosaurus

I remember when all the rumors were buzzing around before JW came out, one of the stronger rumors was the plesiosaurs would break out of their enclosure and swim up that kayak river we saw in the movie, to attack the kayakers. Was really hoping that’d been in the movie.
You know what else is interesting. Mosasaurus are known to have been sea dwellers. So was that lagoon in JW that mosasaurus was enclosed in, freshwater or saltwater? Keep in mind, JWFK showed it had access to the open ocean but then that means the animals, after being set free again, would be drinking saltwater.

    • @Ninjake67
      @Ninjake67 Рік тому

I know I'm 4 years late here, but, to give future readers a thought. The lagoon probably is intended to act as a brackish estuary where the river flows in freshwater to meet the ocean.
This is supported from camp cretaceous when the kayaks go through the tunnel system and releases into the lagoon.

I would love to see the next Jurassic World include the River Raft scene from the 1st book and then maybe have it segue from that to a suspenseful Jaws-like scene where one of the characters falls out of the raft by accident due to the current or because it actually leads from a dam into a large pool exhibit where they keep the Plesiosaurus. The character tries not to panic because he thinks swimmimg rapidly would get the reptile's attention so instead he tries float instead of swim to a ladder out of the exhibit. It'd be nice to have so much more tense and terrifying scenes in the franchise again.

Really loved the Plesiosaurus. I first saw this creature in the 2002 Capcom's video game Dino Stalker. I hope they bring it into JW3.

It would have been cool to see the Plesiosaurus in Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom, seeing it (or them) escape alongside the Mosasaur and live naturally in the Pacific. Thankfully, mattel has made a nice toy version of this animal.

I think it got a mention in Evolution of Claire as one of the potential creatures Wu would be able to work on during dialogue.

You forgot the tiny reference to it in TellTale Game's Jurassic Park: The Game, where you can find silhouettes of it on the decorative banners running along the halls of the Isla Nublar Marine Facility that housed the Tylosaurus.

The Plesiosaurus or something related should make an appearance in the next or following film(s). The long necked marine reptiles are a popular representation of the Mesozoic's marine ecosystem in the public's eyes. I am sure the Mososaurus will be the star of the aquatic animals, and I think showing some prehistoric sharks like Cretoxyrhina or some large fish like Xiphactinus or Leedsichthys would help add to the atmosphere of it all.
Also, and this may not be the best video to ask but since you mentioned underwater action, have you considered making a history video about Deinosuchus or Sarchosuchus? I think having a large crocodilian like them would be a big thrill for audiences to see and to realize what other large creatures lived with the dinosaurs and to realize how massive they grew.
