Ultimate Spider-Man is easily one of the most popular comics to ever come out of Marvel. It took the world by storm in the early 2000s by being what seemed like a fresh and modernized take on Peter Parker's origin and early stories from the 60s Lee and Ditko run, and most spidey adaptations to this day continue to use its ideas in their own stories! Unfortunately, not everything from Ultimate has aged well, and today we're going to be talking about one of the worst offenders: Ultimate Venom. Sure, the video game version might be pretty awesome, but the comic counterpart to Ultimate Eddie Brock is genuinely one of the worst things the run did wrong.
Well, Bendis didn’t want to include Venom in the ultimate run. Editorial told him to do it. He never liked Venom as a character, not even the 616 version. So there you go. It’s essentially the same thing that happened to Sam Raimi for spider-man 3. He didn’t want to include venom, either, but was forced to do so, despite him admitting that he didn’t understand anything about the character
It feels weird how little Venom shows up in the comics. They could have just said the game’s story was canon because let’s be real…everyone thinks of game Venom when you mention “Ultimate Venom”.
Honestly that seemed to be the conscience as the game released after both the orignal Ultimate Venom and and Carnage first show already happened in IRL. Only for Venom return in the comics retcon the game from happening which by that point the game already been out for a few years. It feels ultimately Bendis just wanted to do his own thing. Which was basically nothing with the character
Whats worse is the Ultimate game was SUPPOSED to be canon to the comics, and in the end of that game he turned into the Venom we all know. Gaining the iconic spider logo, eddie gaining control of the symbiote, eating the one responsible for his parents' deaths and then becoming an anti-hero. He had a full complete character arc that was left open for him to team up with spidey/clash with him again. But the new ultimate writers completely ignored the game and messed it all up. They retconned sable, bolivar trask, carnage, and many more that had amazing set ups already. Its why after the venom arc in the comics i stopped reading. The writing definitely went downhill
What scared me about Venom in the Ultimate Spider-Man game was when the voice actor did Venom's growling. Made Venom genuinely sound like an animal. I also love Tony Todd's voice in Spider-Man 2. Dude sounded like a monster, but as a compliment.
MANDARIN.- A Crazy A.I. Fantastic 4 Powers.- NEGATIVE ZONE Galactus.- A ROBOTIC HIVE THE SYMBIOTES.- A lab experiment *WhyTHE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE REFUSED SO HARD THE USE OF ALIENS?*
Honestly even as a kid I thought Bendis didn’t like venom. And with how different Venom is treated in the game vs comic might come down to the developers than Bendis. As it’s most common practice that the story is made after the layout of levels. So wouldn’t be surprised if the developers approached Bendis with writing the plot of a Spider-Man game where the most story they had so far was Venom hunting Peter down. But the game would switch back n forth between the 2 characters. This Bendis suggested tying it to the ultimate comics.
Insomniac Harry Osborne is basically Ultimate Eddie in all but name with this whole spiel and how they handle the specifics, especially the "we just reunited recently" aspect
@@The_Blue_Otaku not really, he just got angry at Peter over one mistake even though they child's friends and completely changed his character after like 3 episodes
@@theamazingspooderman2697 Yeah I kind of forgot that it was 3 episodes. Honestly it felt like 8 episodes due to waiting for new episodes every Saturday morning (For context I watched the original airings of Spectacular Spider-man on TV back in the day... Fuck with the whole "back in my day" talk I sound like some 80 year old war veteran who fought in Nam or something)
Or like the symbiotes being artificially created. (I don't think it's bad when they are aliens but artificial symbiotes are a cool idea for different universes)
Really sucks they added that crap with Eddie creeping on Gwen, everything with Peter with the suit and the actual scenes with Venom at the football yard is genuinely good imo, even if it's just 1 fight, and what sucks is you're right, Bendis actually did not want to do Venom cause, he straight up didn't like Venom in interviews. Though I do admittedly like the angle that Venom was a lab creation made by Peters father, tying into Peters story and the sins of their fathers. Everything with Venom afterwards sadly as you said, sucked, pretty much alot of stuff after it is mid or just bad up till the death of Ultimate Spider-Man which I will forever say is a great end to the character. (Ignoring what happened later with him returning to life for, some reason.)
Yeah it still annoys me that ultimate Eddie Brock aka ultimate venom never got a proper ending to his story in ultimate Spider-Man comics in my opinion.
@@SynthVoice indeed he's still missing to this day, and honestly with this new ultimate marvel universe now happening with a married peter parker and Mary jane and they have there two children Mayday parker the future spider-girl and her brother Benji Richard parker I think its safe to assume this plot point with ultimate venom aka ultimate Eddie brock will never get resolve anytime soon.
I still can’t get over how Venom in Ultimate comics was a suit made to cure cancer but goes and decides to do the complete opposite and Eddie Brock is a pedo…… that ain’t the Eddie Brock I know. I do like the Symbiote Spider-Man suit and preferred playing Shattered Dimensions since the suit allows the same attacks like Venom in the Ultimate Spider-Man game. It’s out of pocket for Venom to be written but then again, Brian Michael Bendis didn’t want but Marvel at the time probably was like "if you don’t, then you’re out”.
@@robertkenny1201 I’d prefer not to. Venom’s dead and I think it’s better for him to stay dead. Though if the Venom game is in another timeline, I’m fine with that.
@@robertkenny1201 I’m quite fine with Harry being Venom, though I do think it should be Eddie in a solo game. I will say, one thing I notice and love about Harry being Venom is that he’s versatile as a character to the point that you can literally anything with him.
@brewmaster2912 I'm also fine with Harry Osborn as Venom as a antagonist and final boss for this game, but if they make a Venom solo I really think either Eddie Brock or Flash Thompson should become Venom next host, since naturally most Venom fans are going to want a Venom game to star someone who actually was Venom in the comics, I also see no reason for Harry Osborn to be Vrnom anymore in this universe.
I’m convinced the Ultimate comics only existed for the sake of making gross stuff. Quicksilver and Wanda have a, relationship, Wolverine tries to smash Mary Jane, it’s awful. Don’t get me wrong, the comics did some great stuff but COME ON.
Bro worst part is when you point out all this weird stuff from such a beloved comic universe or kind of like because of ultimate Spider-Man so I called people think you're the weirdo I wasn't the one who wrote this crap, just kind of saying people can write that and get paid, why the f*** can I get a job writing at Marvel?
@@MuggMen Yeah I think it’s difficult to talk about too. I just find it frustrating to have a comic series that’s so iconic and have that little part of the story that nags at the back of your brain. It’s not only uncomfortable but frustrating
@@Ismatic1906 yeah like Quicksilver and wanda, talking about that makes people uncomfortable; hell I got a twin sister makes me uncomfortable but I got to remind people yes I got paid to write this.
@@SynthVoice wow that's like finding out that the people behind that terrible drawn together movie are also responsible for teen Titans go, it just makes a little too much sense. Wells had it out for the web slinger's girlfriend this whole time.
I will never forget the time playing ultimate venom in ultimate Spider-Man video game and having fun because damn that story and gameplay in that amazing game was amazing in my opinion.
@@Virgo_man0409 indeed and that made me so happy to play as venom again in marvel's Spider-Man 2 game which was really awesome and tons of fun, and did brought back so many memories of ultimate Spider-Man game but now on new consoles which is awesome. :)
7:37 Yes! I don't get the ultimate universe, it's all so heinously edgy with really bad fights. I was told ultimate spiderman would stand out but *nooooo.* not really.
To add additional info, the symbiote would actually reappear with Ultimate Reed, The Maker, during his time in the Donny Cates Venom comic. What happened to Eddie? Hell i know, probably sent to the Shadow Realm.
Insomniac Venom is practically Ultimate Venom, right? I think the only difference is that insomniac version seems to be a little more aware of his actions
Insomniac is a blend of the two. He is an alien symbiote being used to cure a disease. I would still say it's closer to the original than Ultimate though, because he wasn't created in a lab and isn't driven by the desire to feed.
I especially hate how later on venom just devolves into a monster who doesn’t even talk. I love venom it takes a lot for me to not enjoy him, but by god I’m glad this version of venom is gone and never coming back.
I always assumed Eddie from the Ultimate Comics was a college freshman like in the Spectacular Spider-Man. He was childhood friends with Peter Parker (who was the same age as Gwen) so I never really thought their was that much of an age difference between them.
The best part of the Ultimate Venom arc was the artwork, the previous saga, Public Scrutiny was way better. At least the videogame ends with an implication that Venom becomes a Lethal Protector.
I distinctly remember going to my local library and seeing that there was the issue of Ultimate Spiderman that introduced Venom. I immeaditely borrowed it and went home to read it. What i loved from it was the detail of Eddie and Peter being childhood friends and how in a way, Peter was responsible for Venom's creation, putting all that hate into the symbiote and then having it go all into Eddie when he put it on. I also liked that this version of Eddie was a pretty decently smart guy and got to university (but friends, i will always prefer the disheveled look of Tom Hardy's Eddie. Full stop GOAT for that.) What i ultimately hated though was the whole...Eddie creeping on Gwen thing, the fact that Venom never got his redemption arc or his own series (Ultimate Venom as a title goes so hard) and the sheer fact that the video game seemed to have done his run better then the writers...*sigh* In the end? I agree with you on this video (not whatcha said about Insominac's Venom. Let them cook, the solo game could be GREAT) and to this day? I haven't read anymore of Ultimate Spiderman past the Venom arc. It became so mid.
Honestly it’s a damn shame that comic ultimate venom is such shit, not only because his design in my opinion is peek venom (I will always perfer the toxic purple over the blue) But because ultimate venom in the game is in general peek.
7:36 I also theorize it’s popularity inspired Marvel to go through with One More Day since it was clear teenage Peter was a popular concept in the early 2000s
I really pray that in Jonathan Hickmans new ultimate Spider-Man, we actually get a really good symbiote Spider-Man arc then when it’s venoms turn he actually fleshes out as character
Saying Ultimate Spider-Man is worse than the fucking Clone Saga has to be one of the worst comic book opinions I have ever heard. The Clone Saga was contrived, had a bajillion pacing issues, and with so much to follow that it had the cohesion of a pool full of maple syrup, and it was just as messy too. Ultimate Spider-Man wasn’t just a “oh it’s Spider-Man but with 2000s grunge aesthetic” it was a complete reimagining. Bendis took risks with the IP and I respect the fuck out of that, even killing off Spidey. They should have stuck with it but they didn’t, sad tbh. While it wasn’t perfect, I’d much rather more comic runs like Ultimate rather than more comic runs like Clone Saga or the most recent ASM run.
The fact that they had Eddie an adult college man flirting with a 15 year old Gwen Stacy makes other Venoms like Insomniac and Spider-Man 3's look look good. So glad the Ultimate Spider-Man game did Eddie justice
Honestly, if the comics took the game´s story as canon and expanded on Eddie´s journey as being in control of the suit this version of Venom would be a great interpratation of the character, and if the carnage arc didn´t exist, however a lot of weird decisions were made along the run, making Carnage a clone of Peter was awful which lead to the unecessary death of Gwen and turning her into a strange symbionte clone which also lead to the very underwhelming War of the Symbiontes arc, that honestly felt like a very contrivied way to bring Gwen back and left Eddie as almost non-existent character since his only motivations were to feed and survive, not get vengeance or anything, he was just a cannibal monster, very disappointing.
You know Insomniac's Venom could win my heart if he comes back in his own DLC or solo game with Eddie Brock or Flash Thompson as his host, this Harry Osborn Venom thing kind sucks plus it was already done to death in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.
@@pedroportela6476Regardless I'm kinda sick of the flanderized ooga booga venom we've been getting. It was better when it was basically eddie with spider powers
Danm, didn’t know how gross Ultimate Eddie really is?! 🤮 Totally agree with you on the Ultimate Venom is pretty “Wasted” and very unexplained of how’s symbotie works. You should make some Ultimate hot takes. Never read ultimate comics outside then Spider-Man. There’s a lot of weird stuff going around.
My take on Ultimate Venom is this: I hear a lot of people ragging in him for being a pedophile, but that’s kinda the point. Don’t get me wrong it definitely didn’t NEED to be the point, but it actively acknowledges that Eddie is an asshole for this and foreshadows his eventual villainy well when Gwen warns Peter of him being a creep. Also Spectacular Eddie was too. While you could say he was using her, he was trying to get with MJ (a high schooler) while he was in College. That show did the same thing Ultimate did, even with MJ warning Pete about him being a douchebag. As for Venom himself, I didn’t think the take was the worst per se. I think they absolutely WASTED him, but when I read it I thought it was alright for what they were trying to go for, a more monstrous take on him (before that became an insanely tired take on Venom and at this point almost the main one with how common it is in games shows and movies). Overall, I do prefer the 616 venom and the generally more antihero venoms, midnight suns did him great, and Ultimate Venom could’ve been done way better, but I still see what Bendis was going for. Do agree that Bendis could’ve stopped with him just being manipulative, didn’t need to do all that.
Eddie In the spectacular was a genuinely a good guy trying to do the right thing, Peter just betrayed his trust and send down that path he only was messing with mj and Gwen to get with Peter he didn't actually seek em out to hurt em only to pull Peter out. Ultimate yeah he's a asshole but honestly, so is Peter and every other Ultimate character somewhat is too.
Thank god with other adpations like Eddie from Spectacular Spider Man he was a much more likeable character than his uglyier counterpart. Sure yea he also ended up being a bad guy and could of had a second chance to be redeemed if the show carried on. Though he is a mix of 616 Eddie same with Raimi Eddie in some ways, but still again better than was they were based on. Overall I do hope when the new Ultimate Spider Man comic comes out Eddie is written less of a creep.
wait wait wait. did all of that happen in a single issue? wow or Bendis really really didn't want to adapt venom in ultimate or his writing style has really changed over the years.
I hate Ultimate Spider-Man in general. Any time they set Spidey in high school or otherwise don't make him an adult, I just mentally tune out. Also didn't help what they did with the Goblin, completely misunderstanding his character and making him a generic Hulk clone.
Nah, it was pretty great. There's a reason almost every adaptation of Spider-Man since rips off something from it. Disliking it just because it's set while Peter is still in high school is wack.
I'm in the same boat. I love Peter as an adult, and I'm so tired of new adaptations putting him back in high school. Here's to hoping Hickman's adult Ultimate Spidey is peak!
@@pedroportela6476 Rather than argue, which no one enjoys, let me meet you halfway and say that at the very least I DO love the artwork. They made some really nice stylistic choices, particularly with Venom. So I can see why you enjoy it!
Part of me wants to try and write my own mini-series that gives Ultimate Venom a conclusion and a way to to tie into the future incarnation that faced Miles. The only things that stopping me from doing so is A) I have no history of writing comics. And B) how to make the character of 1610 Eddie Brock into a root-for protagonist despite his _minor_ problem. There’s no dancing around the fact that he’s a creep. So I won’t bother.
This is a dumb take but I just wanna see a version of Venom where his whole life is made to make Peter’s life hell. I know people are more into the lethal protector side of Venom, but for me personally I like it when he’s a villain. Not where he wants to do some Web of Shadows BS.
I majorly disagree with you in preference, but that's not a dumb take dude. It's what Venom was originally created to be. I prefer him anti-hero to hero, but that's not to say his early roots aren't important or that they don't have an appeal. And I hate when used as a villain, Venom just becomes this conduit for symbiote invasions. You can already imagine my impressions of Spider-Man 2 because of it.
Spectacular spider-man basically did this. Eddie was so intent on destroying Peter's life. He was going to get rid of his powers with a gene cleanser and then reveal who he is on TV. Leaving him defenseless against all of his rogues that was evil.
Ultimate Spider-Man is my favorite Spider-Man and I have 10 comic of Ultimate Spider-Man. I’m getting more comic of Ultimate Spider-Man. I can’t believe I’m about to say this but I like Ultimate Venom I like the story that they were trying to through about Ultimate Venom
Eghads, my favorite Spider-Man adjacent UA-camr critically breaking down my favorite Spider-Man arc! I would love to present why this arc made me into a lifelong Spider-Man fan as a child. Eddie having so many negative qualities seemed to me to be the point. For me, the arc really laid in the "sins of the father" theme that the arc constantly hammered in, even though those "sins" were being overly trusting to a lifelong friend and doing your best to help the world without yet fully understanding the consequences. The recordings left by Peter's father are something Peter hopes will reconnect him with his lost parent, and they do! But they devolve into despair over the collapse of his friendship with Eddie Brock Sr., and a warning over people in your life who will always put themselves first blindly. This much wanted connection becomes a negative, not something to take solace in, and represents some of the hardest lessons a young self-styled hero could learn. This is even further hammered home with Eddie's own college roommate criticizing him top to bottom, from being a creep around women to being someone who got their cheeto-dust infested fingers all over their dorm room. You're trash, Brock. It is a destruction of his relationship and memories with Eddie, and even his father to a degree, seriously violating the good bits of his childhood he optimistically hung on to. To get personal I'll say that as a child, this preyed on my own fears of losing touch with the friends I had in my life, and seeing my friends go down a bad path where we could no longer stand one another and worse, where they were beyond my "help" as I felt it was my duty to do so. That time away from each other could cause me to "miss my chance" to fix things. None of this really answers your critiques, and while it is one of my favorite arcs of all time, I will grant everything past the initial Venom run IS trash. But I hope this speaks to the emotional core that resonates with some! Love your videos, and wish you well.
Yeah all admit 1610 eddie was meh if anything cause therenwas very little depth to him sure keep him as the manipulative ass that he was but come on they couldve felshed out his past post the death of his parents literally have him mirror peter. While peter had a loving aunt and uncle, eddie got into the foster system alone maybe had a few bad experiences wether be an abusive foster family or living in a oprhanage were he slowly had to learn to fend for himself and be the selfish manipulator out of survival maybe even lived on the streets at some point. I mean you couldve written him as a flash thompson proxy a jerk with some good intentions but ultimately chose to be selfish due to his personal issues and baggage. Then when he gets the symbiote he gains a full blown ptsd experience as the symbiote not only is eating him alive but keeps him subdued by using fake memories were his parents are alive and was genuinely happy only for him to be freed from the symbiote; he is utterly traumatized by the whole experience and blames peter for it. By the time carnage appears the symbiote somehow escapes the trisksellion and tracks down eddie who is now institutionalized at ravencroft asylum still having lingering nightmares and violent panic episodes due to his trauma. The symbiote arrives and and forcefully bonds with eddie but this time eddie aint backing down fighting with all his pent up rage he has he wills a measure of control to try and enact vengeance on peter little does he know that the true quarry inst peter this time its carmage whom has already assimalated gwen into itself and has been in hiding trying to bond with peter as well. Peter and gwen were hanging out one night when venom shows up and starts attacking peter; during the fight eddie goes on rampage with the intention to settle the score and decides to take gwen as a hostage only for the carnage symbiote to reveal itself and the two start clashing while carnage attemps to lead the fight away from peter to protect him as well as the civillains. Shaken out of his shock at the reveal of carnage being gwen peter races after the 2 hoping to get asnwers and stop the fight. They ends at the habor were ultimately carnage is defeated and absorbed by venom it is now whole once more but due to gwen's mind lingering in the carngae symbiote it helps eddie break free from the symbiote but then damage was done eddie was left in a shriveled corpse drained of everything; peter arrives to the scene only to ssee eddie's corpse and the symbiote sporting the iconic logo and went from a purplish black hue into a blood reddsih black hue; now only peter and the symbiote remain and the fight begins anew with a furious leter fighting tooth and nail to prevent the symbiote from bonding but this new venom is far more feral and inteligent than the previous once now with enhancing shapeshifting abilities creates blades claws, tendrils with thorns to wound peter enough to make the bonding porcess a lot easier it even manifest a dloning ability were it can split pieces of itself making drones that attack via hive mind. The fight seems lost but shield arrives in time to subdue the symbiote but not before secretly latching a piece that contains the core of venoms and now housing both the symbiote conscieness and gwens as well slowly dissapearing. Leaving peter with no answers, a no dead eddie brock and a mindless symbiote goo taken by shield, live for peter was rotten as his luck as usual. Sometimes later we see a missing person report for gwen stacy meqnwhile in the park the new "gwenom" ponders to itself if it should go back to peter or just leave to keep him save the entire conversation between the 2 halves of itself only fot it to say "he is safe for now "we" keep him safe and it cuts to black page with the words WE ARE VENOM. As for the nature of the symbiote its originaly intent was to be a living cure for incurable diseases cancer chief among its targets. Each patient would be bonded to its own symbiote and slowly imprint on its host dna help it boost the debilitated inmune system and create antibodies to fight the cancernogensin the body a none aggresive quimo therapy alternative if you will that would heal the host and leaves no life threatening nor heath complications but an un for kseen side effect is that imcomplete bonding or prolong bonding would lead to abnormalities in the host psyche and even its biology from separation anxiety to an addiction wearing it even the manifestation of violent eepisodes or a complete of inhibitions restraint meaning tye host would start to exhibits their worse personality traits and repressed emotions. It would get to a point were a complete disassociation between the symbiote and host would be present as they would refer to themselves as we and develop a feral almost animalistic behavioural pattern. Psychiatry therapy and close medical supervision would be mandatory in such scenarios alot with regular psychological clunseling during the process. As to why the symbiote wanted or needed to bond to peter well it had richrd's dna perhaps toit started veiwing peter as family or even as apart of itslef wanted to be whole it believe bonding with peter would make it whole.
For me, I hate ultimate venom because brian michael bendis didn't care for any of his passionate storylines in the original continuity because they wanted him to be different. I will say this peter parker in the ultimate universe, and miles morales from that same universe they are both better written characters then mister edward brock jr good video synth your the hero we need to call out this mid storyline.
God yes. I had a feeling you'd feel that way about Insomniac Venom. Half baked Tasm Harry is so apt. I wish Spider-Man 2 would have paced itself better or you know, used Venom at all instead of like 4 scenes I love Spidey 2 but man, how do you fumble Venom that hard. The concept of Harry being Venom was already a weak foundation and they still half baked it
It feels mind numbing to try and discuss the shortcomings of Spidey 2's story when there's so many Spidey fans foaming at the mouth about how it was supposed to be game of the year lol
It really does feel like Venom is an afterthought in a story he's meant to be the main villain of. It's so odd that Kraven is so well done in comparison, too.
@@SynthVoice so true. It genuinely felt like an entire section of at least 4 missions was cut in development or something. We get one venom mission and suddenly we're thrust into web of shadows with no breathing room lol
@@SynthVoicealso about your video, I have to agree. Ultimate Spider-Man starts strong and ends up like Bendis didn't give a shit anymore. I'm still slighted by how he just dropped the Daredevil storyline and pretended that peter never knew who Matt even was. I wish I knew what happened. Why Bendis just went insane with his writing, and not in a good way
Just wanted to point out something that was not accurate. Peter first dons the black suit at the end of issue 34, he gets it off at the end of issue 35, Eddie puts on the suit at the end of issue 36, with the fight ending at the end of issue 38. You said it all happened in one issue, but when I read it, it was five.
This has definitely been mentioned in this comment section before, but I can't resist sharing my thoughts. Your voice reminds me of a younger, softer rendition of Yuri Lowenthal's, making it perfect for Spider-Man.
Oh fuck i thought you were putting on the spider-man voice, but no that's actually what your voice sounds like normally. ... I can't believe spider-man is real
Another thing I hate is the symbiote has no character like 616 Venom, it isn't even a symbiote, it's a cure for cancer, which is kinda stupid, alien Venom works way better because it differentiates the host and the alien, the symbiote should benefit it's host but also hurt it mentally as in 616 I don't think the symbiote was established as eating the host from the inside, I think Ultimate Venom is a absolute disgrace besides the rushed Insomniac Venom
Dude. Ultimate Venom IS NOT 616 Venom. In fact Bendis didn't want Venom in USM at first because he didn't want to rethread the same origin story (or the same alien stuff with him) until they talked him into putting Venom in. But this being 1610 where people are screwed up to some degree, Eddie and thus Venom are arses here. Thus the Venom suit is not an alien but a man-made cancer cure-turned-monster that causes people to become psychotically angry (along with amplifying any negatives they have) and eat people unless they risk being themselves eaten by it, Eddie Brock becomes Peter's childhood friend but he also becomes a dark reflection of Peter if he didn't have any positive influences. Not to mention that this Venom essentially has no redeeming qualities compared to 616 Venom. It's a cancerous, shapeshifting, murderous monster of rage and hate. The design on the other hand is pure sex. Oh BTW, the kid eating part not many people were bothered about it since the voicelines the kid had were the same from the SM2 videogame adaptation where people were irritated by kids loosing their damn balloons non-stop. Edit: I mean it was said later that the Venom suit was turned by Trask into a bio-weapons. Edit2: Also the whole loosing the suit and wanting it back is something that was shown since 1610 Eddie debuted. His father and Peter's both worked on the Venom suit. For him the Venom suit is the one thing that is a connection to his late father thus it's a very emotional thing for him...oh and Carnage Gwen is bizarrely cute. Edit3: It's shown that the 1610 Carnage drains Gwen, but somehow its genetic memory got inherited by its last remaning sample. When that sample was remade into it, it somehow also inherited Gwen's genetic material and had her as a default human form which is...crazy and can't be normally explained. Edit4: Also Bettle was working for 1610 Doctor Doom because he mentioned Latveria in the last page.
That’s a common issue peopel have with 1610 where all the characters are needlessly edgy versions of how they should be kinda like punisher max but at least with max it works better
Yeah when it comes to adapting Eddie Brock/Venom, it never ends well (except Spectacular Spider-Man and the 90s Cartoons and PS1 Venom) and the only good thing to come out of the Ultimate Universe is Miles Morales
"Can I say Ultimate Spider-man is mid?" Had to pause the video to hi the like right there. I've seen many reviews debating if I should read Ultimate Spider-man or not since, despite the praise it gets, it always seem to come from people that read it as kids (nostalgia bias) aaaaand Bendis wrote (And I am not the biggest fan of his writting). Even when they praise how we wrote some characters, the things, he writes them so different they are their 616 counterpart in name only! And I knew Ultimate Venom was not quite like the original, but I didn't expect it to be THIS bad. Not only Bendis ruined him, he also ruined my boy Eddie :(. As for Gwen being Carnage, meh, could've been interesting. Never cared much for him, I see him like I see Deadpool, a one trick pony that gets old reaaaaly quick. Deadpool: "Haha, I break the 4th wall, funny haha" Carnage: "I kill because is fun and I like it, that's it"
To be honest? I love alot incarnatipns of Venom. BUT I enjoy versions of Venom that are completely monster who kills innocent people. Without Ultimate Venom my favorite game series Prototype probably would have never been made.
You have a problem with ultimate Spider-Man because it has horrible people I love ultimate Spider-Man because it has realistic people (Eddie isn't one of the realistic people I like)
Ultimate Venom is still my favorite rendition of the character honestly, I love the origin, the design and the powers, I prefer Ultimate's version over any other honestly. It being like a Lovecraftian monster is great and really fits the character.
I thought you were about to say the game sucks and the intro confused me cause of the title. 5:27 but I agree why the hell is venom rushed when a game you can complete in one day if you rush it literally has a better story in less of that time. Not only when I was little was ultimate spider man my introduction to venom but he has become my opinion of what I like my venom as. So it’s kinda sad they just went fuck you venom after introducing him in the comics and he just got worse in the comics as the story went on sadly.
Honestly, while I appreciate what the Ultimate Spiderman continuity *tried* to do and I even like a lot of aspects of it, I feel like the game is just a better version of the entire Venom arc. And the fact that it ends on a cliffhanger where Eddie/Venom becomes the version we know implies to me that the people who made the game *expected* the comics to treat it as canon and take the same route. I mean, the fsct that Venom symbiote is actually responsible for the deaths of both Peter and Eddie's parents, with the latter not knowing, is such an interesting setup. Only for the latter half of the comic run just completely go off the rails, ignore the game which did so much heavy lifting and basically put Peter out of his misery rather than letting him suffer in this continuity. PS: I also appreciated how Shatter Dimensions depicted Ultimate Carnage, not as an animal or even a monster, but as an unholy fluke of nature. A science experiment gone horribly wrong that now threatened to consume the world in its endless need to feed and reproduce
this venom does show up again ,it's after peter dies . It basically tries to kill miles and fails . Then it showed up with the whole venomverrse thing and gets taken by an evil mr fantastic.
Syn as much as your right about ultimate venom not holding a candle to 616 venom or Earth X venom,He didn't need to be but I expected them to follow The Ultimate Spiderman Game Venom with him finally having control of the venom symbiote and being an anti villain really not being a threat to Peter but when he shows up things will be taken up a notch on the danger scale
Bendis REALLY messed up his character. No wonder since he has always been more of a Green Goblin guy. Ultimate Venom's color and design though were pretty cool and badass and they were eventually given to the third Venom ( McGargan ) as well.
Well, I only played the video game, back in my teenage years, and never read a comic book. Heck I never read any comic book in my entire life. So when I found out about comic books and stuff, and now know that writer of the comic book simply forgot about Venom, I was a bit shocked because, like Spider-Man, Venom is one of my favorite characters. Heck, I would say that, if they make a Venom based game, without Spider-Man and with his own unique story then I would be very happy. That is how I like Venom. I also liked the movies about Venom just because I like the character himself. But, my favorite version of Venom is the original one, simply because I don't like the idea of Venom being a some kind of bio suit that is a cure for cancer. That just sounds stupid. Because, when I think about Venom, I see alien creature from different planet, and not a freaking bio weapon.
Agree 👍
Well, Bendis didn’t want to include Venom in the ultimate run. Editorial told him to do it. He never liked Venom as a character, not even the 616 version. So there you go. It’s essentially the same thing that happened to Sam Raimi for spider-man 3. He didn’t want to include venom, either, but was forced to do so, despite him admitting that he didn’t understand anything about the character
A lot of it is edgy 00s schlock but i like edgy 00s schlock sometimes

I guess this is what happens when you make someone who hates Venom write Venom
It feels weird how little Venom shows up in the comics. They could have just said the game’s story was canon because let’s be real…everyone thinks of game Venom when you mention “Ultimate Venom”.
Exactly, and both the game and the comic having the same writer would have helped that make sense y'know?
Honestly that seemed to be the conscience as the game released after both the orignal Ultimate Venom and and Carnage first show already happened in IRL. Only for Venom return in the comics retcon the game from happening which by that point the game already been out for a few years.
It feels ultimately Bendis just wanted to do his own thing. Which was basically nothing with the character
@@JohnWilliams-wl9px"Nah... Imma Do My Own Thing"

The guy who wrote the ultimate spiderman Comics at the time has said that the game is canon to the comics but I'm not too sure when it takes place
@@-tom-131between vol 6 and 7 it was later adapted into the war of the symbiote arc
Bendis was the only writer for ultimate spider-man. So he's the one who chose to ignore the game.
Snyth should talk the Ultimate Clone saga storyline.
@@mikeval1525 Didnt he also write the game? How can one guy be so cool and then so lame
What scared me about Venom in the Ultimate Spider-Man game was when the voice actor did Venom's growling. Made Venom genuinely sound like an animal. I also love Tony Todd's voice in Spider-Man 2. Dude sounded like a monster, but as a compliment.

Ooouuu you know what? That actually makes a lot of sense.
I might do some digging and see what I can find in Bendis' old Ultimate interviews!
I'm just glad other writers take better aspects from Ultimate Venom like Eddie and Peter being childhood friends.
Spectacular Spider-man did the "Peter and Eddie being childhood friends" thing right
Insomniac Harry Osborne is basically Ultimate Eddie in all but name with this whole spiel and how they handle the specifics, especially the "we just reunited recently" aspect
@@The_Blue_Otaku not really, he just got angry at Peter over one mistake even though they child's friends and completely changed his character after like 3 episodes
@@theamazingspooderman2697 Yeah I kind of forgot that it was 3 episodes. Honestly it felt like 8 episodes due to waiting for new episodes every Saturday morning
(For context I watched the original airings of Spectacular Spider-man on TV back in the day...
Missing to this day smh...
At least he had on the game, but not in the comic@@SynthVoice
@@SynthVoice indeed he's still missing to this day, and honestly with this new ultimate marvel universe now happening with a married peter parker and Mary jane and they have there two children Mayday parker the future spider-girl and her brother Benji Richard parker I think its safe to assume this plot point with ultimate venom aka ultimate Eddie brock will never get resolve anytime soon.
He did. He went back to his home planet.
@@armandotorres8962 lol I get the reference nice. :)
I think that was the point though, that's why the project was cancelled and stuck in Phase2
I wish Bendis would have just made Eddie a sociopath with Cletus Cassidy's personality instead of making him a pedo.
You don’t need to diss Insomniac Venom. He just needed more screen time.
We'll they might bring him back in his own solo game, but I'm not so sure Harry Osborn will be his host next time.
@@robertkenny1201 I’d prefer not to. Venom’s dead and I think it’s better for him to stay dead. Though if the Venom game is in another timeline, I’m fine with that.
@brewmaster2912 We'll the next time we see Venom in any video game his host bloody we'll better be Eddie Brock or Flash Thompson this time.

7:37 Yes! I don't get the ultimate universe, it's all so heinously edgy with really bad fights. I was told ultimate spiderman would stand out but *nooooo.* not really.
They tried to modernize the 60s comics and ended up making an even more dated story lol
Yes
Insomniac's Venom is also an actual alien, but yeah the two are basically the same.
Insomniac is a blend of the two. He is an alien symbiote being used to cure a disease. I would still say it's closer to the original than Ultimate though, because he wasn't created in a lab and isn't driven by the desire to feed.
Insomniac venom is more king in black than anything else
He's a messy mix of multiple venoms
Full stop GOAT for that.)
What i ultimately hated though was the whole...Eddie creeping on Gwen thing, the fact that Venom never got his redemption arc or his own series (Ultimate Venom as a title goes so hard) and the sheer fact that the video game seemed to have done his run better then the writers...*sigh*
In the end? I agree with you on this video (not whatcha said about Insominac's Venom. Let them cook, the solo game could be GREAT) and to this day? I haven't read anymore of Ultimate Spiderman past the Venom arc. It became so mid.
Honestly it’s a damn shame that comic ultimate venom is such shit, not only because his design in my opinion is peek venom (I will always perfer the toxic purple over the blue)
But because ultimate venom in the game is in general peek.
I LOVE PURPLE VENOM.
HE IS GRAHSOME.
7:36 I also theorize it’s popularity inspired Marvel to go through with One More Day since it was clear teenage Peter was a popular concept in the early 2000s
I really pray that in Jonathan Hickmans new ultimate Spider-Man, we actually get a really good symbiote Spider-Man arc then when it’s venoms turn he actually fleshes out as character
ultimate eddie's version of the time venom spends on the beach actually takes place on epstein island
Jeffrey and him are like 2 peas in a pod
Venom Gotta Be My One Of The Most Favourite Villains Of Spiderman 🧡
Venom IS a symbiote that needs a host to live, so it stands to reason that venom and Eddie would be a little fruity
The fact that they had Eddie an adult college man flirting with a 15 year old Gwen Stacy makes other Venoms like Insomniac and Spider-Man 3's look look good. So glad the Ultimate Spider-Man game did Eddie justice
So basically Eddie in the ultimate universe is a resentful jaded incel groomer, while Peter is a good person trying to change society for the better
Ultimate Venom really didn't do much in this series...
You know Insomniac's Venom could win my heart if he comes back in his own DLC or solo game with Eddie Brock or Flash Thompson as his host, this Harry Osborn Venom thing kind sucks plus it was already done to death in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.
If it was done literally just once in one cartoon that barely anyone talks about nowadays, how is it done to death?
@@pedroportela6476Regardless I'm kinda sick of the flanderized ooga booga venom we've been getting. It was better when it was basically eddie with spider powers

My take on Ultimate Venom is this:
I hear a lot of people ragging in him for being a pedophile, but that’s kinda the point.
I could never get over the art style as a kid 😅 but Bagley is one of my favorite 616 spidey artists 😂😂😂
I actually like how he was different and wasn't just the same 1:1 adaptation of the og
As do I.
wait wait wait. did all of that happen in a single issue? wow or Bendis really really didn't want to adapt venom in ultimate or his writing style has really changed over the years.
There’s always wattpad
They should have had this venom meet each other so we can have alien vs predator
I remember people preferring this venom over 616 on a lot of forums back in the day and i don't know why
Oh my god... Recency bias is a hell of a thing.
Yeah well his incarnation in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon isn't any better.
Definitely all of this. I like all the ideas
I would argue that almost everything outside of Peter Parker himself in the Ultimate universe is... not so good.
God yes. I had a feeling you'd feel that way about Insomniac Venom. Half baked Tasm Harry is so apt. I wish Spider-Man 2 would have paced itself better or you know, used Venom at all instead of like 4 scenes
I love Spidey 2 but man, how do you fumble Venom that hard. The concept of Harry being Venom was already a weak foundation and they still half baked it

Why Bendis just went insane with his writing, and not in a good way
@@RamChop451That my friend is what we call having different opinions. You better get used to it.
Ultimate Eddie Brock is literally EDP445
I like the ultimate comic design of venom but I hated the ultimate Spider-Man show what they did to venom was kinda dumb
The ultimate symbiote does return donny cate's run of venom
Eddie went down the same hole as Judy Winslow and Chuck Cunningham. Joining Poochie to go back to their home planet.
I just like the idea of a cure for cancer gone wrong instead of a symbiote
The entirety of Ultimate Marvel was a mistake. No amount of "Ultimate Spiderman modernised the character" is going to be enough to change my mind
Man, I really liked your video
Narration and editing are on point 👌
Thanks! I aim to please!
Ultimate spiderman comics fell off so hard
Speaking of that Venom gay thing, it was well done compared to what most of Hollywood and AAA can do.
@@CursedShinobiClown Agreed. If not downright psychotic. I mean you saw how much cannibalism stuff is in 1610?
i like insomiac venom. for me venom is a monster he dont talk alot but yea he need some more to make him perfect for me
Yeah when it comes to adapting Eddie Brock/Venom, it never ends well (except Spectacular Spider-Man and the 90s Cartoons and PS1 Venom) and the only good thing to come out of the Ultimate Universe is Miles Morales
Preach!
He tried getting close to a Probably 16 year old Gwen Stacy at one point, which was weird
Didn’t Bendis say that he didn’t care for venom? That could possibly be why his comic appearance is short lived and sporadic.
Deadpool: "Haha, I break the 4th wall, funny haha" Carnage: "I kill because is fun and I like it, that's it"
But in the game Ultimate spiderman game, he was an absoulte fuckin menace
Insomniac venom is waaay more terrible
To be honest? I love alot incarnatipns of Venom. BUT I enjoy versions of Venom that are completely monster who kills innocent people. Without Ultimate Venom my favorite game series Prototype probably would have never been made.
The comic peaked with the Sinister Six. Anyone who wants to read USM should get to that then play the game and never bother with anything else USM
amazing video nora
Thank you! 😄
Wait, wasn't the ultimate Venom symbiote found by Ultimate Reed Richards/Maker?
You have a problem with ultimate Spider-Man because it has horrible people
I love ultimate Spider-Man because it has realistic people (Eddie isn't one of the realistic people I like)
While i don't hate the origin of the Symbiote in the Ultimate universe, i hate eddies and the Symbiote's characterization
its crazy how one of the worst venoms has one of the coolest designs
Ultimate Venom is still my favorite rendition of the character honestly, I love the origin, the design and the powers, I prefer Ultimate's version over any other honestly. It being like a Lovecraftian monster is great and really fits the character.
it is because of gross edgelord trash like this
that i never got into the Ultimate comics
PS:
I also appreciated how Shatter Dimensions depicted Ultimate Carnage, not as an animal or even a monster, but as an unholy fluke of nature. A science experiment gone horribly wrong that now threatened to consume the world in its endless need to feed and reproduce
Bro could have wrote one of the most goated venom wtf
Ugh and I fought Eddie Brock was a scumbag in Dark Origins ugh.
Is it because he has No Spider on his Body or is it because that he created by the Late Richard Parker
1:20 honestly the reason why I take so much interest in him
this venom does show up again ,it's after peter dies . It basically tries to kill miles and fails . Then it showed up with the whole venomverrse thing and gets taken by an evil mr fantastic.
Neither of those were Eddie, actually! As far as we know, he's still being held by Doctor Doom in the original Ultimate universe!
Says you
Bendis REALLY messed up his character.
