I use a sock. Throw crushed/dried conkers in it, tuck it into a ball and I can use it for a couple of washes. Removes the need for personality g the conkers and gets the most use out of them.
We have buckeyes here in west virginia which has the saponin in it also. Best video ive found so far and just subscribed. My wife and I are planning on visiting England in 2027 for the world beard compitition in blackpool. Ill have to catch up on your videos. All the best to you folks.
Hi beautiful family. We have a family of 7 and I can tell you that the detergents generally was our enemy 🙁 as one brand would cause dry skin, the other would make my kids really itchy and so on with all the detergents I tried it was a struggle to find one that didn't harm my family. Back in September my little ones decided they wanted to collect all the conkers they found on the way home and I ended up with just over 150 of them. Yikes!! What to do? So as I searched "what to do with conkers" I came across your video. Since then I've been using conkers as my detergent and no whatsoever allergic reactions or irritations. Grateful you guys shared. I will run out before next year September but then I will collect ivy to use as detergent. Thanks to you guys now I know I can also use ivy to make detergent. Keep those videos coming. 😀
Really glad you found it works well with your family 😁 makes us feel proud of our videos when we hear such positive things! Fingers crossed the ivy works well for you're family too it's all win win using these natural soaps good for us & the environment 💚
@@homeiswhereourheartis God bless.. like I said keep those videos coming pretty please 😁😁 homeschooling the kids I take a lot of nature tips from your videos.
Absolutely love this 🌿🍂 I can't wait for the conkers to turn brown to make my own, eco-friendly and free detergent. I've just ordered your foraging book too. You are such a gorgeous family. Thank-you for sharing such inspiring videos 🐟🦭🦋🐛🍃🌿🌱
I’ve been taking a dose of horse chestnut every day for the last 30 years for Leg Vein Health. There are numerous of this product and supplements you can find online and it helps to get rid of the heavy feeling and the legs from varicose veins or blood clots doesn’t solve blood clots but it makes your legs feel better not so heavy, feeling reduces pain, but taking appropriate dose as it states on the bottle and it helps me a lot, it’s a great medicinal
Cutting conkers was easy but taking their skin off was the hardest thing i have done, for two bowls full. .i still have blisters on my finger after six weeks but i didn't give up .i found that after chopping them putting in the oven for few hours on low heat . This made the skin easy to peel off . Another mistake was chopping them too much on the board . My idea was dehydrating would be quicker .nevermind . I am happy with my washes .
Hello from Sweden 🇸🇪 my wife and I moved out into a cabin in the middle of the Swedish Forrest and we have a big horse chestnut 🌰 tree right in front of our log cabin. We’ll be trying this for the first time this year. God Bless ✝️🙏
I saw an abundance of conkers near my daughter's nursery and I googled what can I do with them and came across your video. I will be surely collecting them and using. Thank you, you're a very lovely couple as well ❤
I knew it was possible to make laundry soap but not how to. Horse chestnut trees within a five minute walk...l shall be there with my basket! Thank you.
It's such a great way to save money & be sustainable 0 waste plus we get to get out and enjoy collecting conkors in the fresh air 😁 If you haven't already subscribe to stay connected with us 💚
I've tried it! I found it hard to break them into pieces. I couldn't cut mine with a knife, they were too hard. But after passing that stage, the laundry detergent works nice! I added some essential oils and it was lovely!!! Amazing! Thanks for the video!
love this 🥰 once dehydrated & blended to a powder 2 years later itll still be usable, a friend yesterday got their powdered conkers from 2 years ago out, added to water & the soap was still very much there 🙏
Nice video, but did You know that you can make a nice cinnamon coloured dye from the husks of the conkers? Conker cream is also supposed to be good for treating varicose veins.
This is so cool. I've been using soap berries from India and although they work wonderfully I have been feeling lukewarm about it because they are shipped from across the globe. Next year when it's the season again I will use conkers. Thanks for sharing this valuable knowledge.
They are good but we've read that the farmers of the soup nuts don't get a fair price plus like you say the distance they have to travel is extreme. Conkers are our own free local version 😁
My grandma has a chestnut tree. She always said we were able to eat them. But after some research I've realized the type of chestnut tree differ. And her tree is a horse chestnut tree. So I'll have to let her know lol. I am going to try to make this soap next fall!
Hey family. This is amazing. I love that you don't even need to use that much each time and how long it lasts and the cost savings as well as environment. Another one to try. We just picked blackberries today and will be making a cordial. Thanks for sharing!!💓
Really nice to see your way to use conkers, I use to chop them, dry, put some in an old sock, knit sock and then put the sock to my washing machine. Works fine for me, but maybe I should try to do it in your way.. :) Thanks!
That sounds like a quicker method! My question is, how would one go about preserving the conker for use throughout the year? Can they be left whole, or should they be dehydrated in quarters?
I have a bit of a chestnut obsession. I just love the way the shell looks like the most beautiful polished wood grain. My neighbour has a chestnut tree on his front lawn. Hates picking up the bloody things. So we have an unspoken agreement, and he turns a blind eye in the fall when I scurry around in his yard. Having had baskets of them collected from prior years, if you leave them whole in their shells, the inside does dry nicely. I imagine they might be hard to cut, but easy to smash with a hammer. I might try throwing them in my blender or food processor.
I have been using the conker laundry wash for a few months. It amazes me every single load. 🙂 What do you do with conkers after you have done the laundry? I would like to put them in the compost but that's probably not best if being used in the vegetable garden.
I knew you could do this now I know how. Unfortunately we have no conker trees in this part of the world. Thanks for the education anyway. Really great video.
So trying this. Just wanted to say my kids and I are loving watching your family and all the wonderful things you make and places you go. I'm in new zealand so opposite seasons but I'll be rewatching some of your vids.
Just watched your video, was sent the link by a friend. I’ve subscribed and I’m going conker hunting! This is just fab, save money and the environment xx you’re awesome!
I am trying out conkers washing liguid . I have an idea to share . What if you make it in a french press , like you would coffee . You can find a used French press at the local thrift shop for a few bucks . makes the straining so much easier
Is it the inner and not the outer that makes the soap or do you need both? Im thinking after quartering if they went in the oven to dry a bit the shell will probably pull away from the flesh quite a bit and i could pull the shell off. Could powder it in blender then perhaps? Thanks so much for this. I buy the eco brand but cant really afford it now and neither that or the stronger brands seem to get out marks so might as well go with mother nature. Save a few for wildlife peeps ❤
That really is quite remarkable. I'm not one of those tree hugging hippies that believes in global warming tales but if we can save a few quid by making a perfectly good and natural washing detergent for free then I am certainly willing to give it a crack 👍
i really struggled with smashing the conkers, what type of hammer did you use? are they older conkers or fresher ones, mine just kept rolling from under the hammer in the tea towel
The kiddo and I just spotted some conkers on the side of the road during our walk. We collected a bag and we're excited to make some soap! Thanks again!
This is the first video I've seen by you guys. Subscribed! I absolutely love you both! Sorry if this has been asked before, but what sort of smell does it leave on the clothes? Also, have you ever made a fabric conditioner equivalent?
I have a question: so, one spoon for one cup/mug. 30 minutes. Then one cup for one load of laundries, right? Or may I use one cup for two loads? Another question: can you reuse the chestnuts that you left to brew in hot water, like with tea, for example, I use twice a same bag of tea.. Something like that =P Do you also use the softener and if not, what do you use instead of it?Thank you in advance!
Wow ive never heard about this before. Apparently spiders don't like conkers so maybe it might stop them from hiding in my clothes that I bring in from the washing line. 🕷

Thnx. I made the Ivy soap yesterday which worked well. Which has more saponins, conkers or ivy?
Not sure on the exact levels but the conker soap is more soapy when you compare them 🙂
Went to bushy park in Hampton and only found one from twenty trees .😢
Can you mix it with the ivy detergent?
Nice video with the children. Subbed you.
Thank you 😁

Zero waste of leftovers and zero plastic but can't afford the oven. Shame. Keep up the great vids
If you can find a nice sunny spot or a solar oven, you can dry them out there although it will take a bit longer 🙂
