Thank you for this recipe. My son is HE and loved making it. From foraging for conkers to using it on himself. Hes amazed how lovely it is and good it is on his dry scalp. Thanks again
We've just made two videos one on rosehips and how to identify them and 2 on how to make them into syrup 😁 check them out our kids love to forage and make syrups
I made the shampoo and it's amazing on Leon's hair. We don't often shampoo his hair as it makes the curls tuggy but this shampoo is brilliant alongside his usual conditioner 😊
Loved this video guys. Another great natural creation. So lovely seeing you use what nature provides us. I've always been interested in what we can make and how we can use what nature provides. Oh my god Brucy!! I can explain how excited I am to welcome him x
What a lovely recipe, beautiful family! I wonder, does it not leave your hair greasy or limp with the coconut milk? (As coconut milk it's quite fatty). I have very thin hair so I though.. maybe use the coconut milk after on the lengths only? But then you said about your mum... did it stay clean afterwards a normal time? I'm so intrigued! (BTW I've washed my hair only with Soapwort for a year now. Amazing!!)
Hi guys, I was sent this awesome video to my FB Timeline, and watched it, then subbed you! As a vegan, this is really as vegan as it gets. Looking forward to making the shampoo very soon. Thank you, much love to you all! X
We managed to get some conkers and are making the shampoo right now 😊 Leon has lovely curls and it's hard to find suitable hair stuff for him so I'm hoping this works well on his hair. We already use sls and paraben free shampoo/conditioner.
Yeah type in bird clock to ebay & it comes right up. There's a few different types but all are awesome! Ours fell off and broke need to get a new one too 😁
If your boys are very little natural soaps aren't like kids store shampoos and can be a bit stinging for the eyes. The conker Handsoap or laundry soap is just as fun to make the videos on how to do that are on our channel 💚
Hi guys, I ran across your video when searching for Hawthorns, you are the bomb, I've watched a few today & subscribed. It would be great if you could include - how much you yield, storage, shelf life for your lovely recipes. I feel blessed to have found you. Your impactful knowledge, style & creations are wonderful, simple & fresh. Inspiring for someone like myself who is new to foraging. Thank you for doing you
Thanks for the great ecofriendly idea!! What would you recommend to do after collecting the conkers? Re the self life, is it longer if not mixed with the coconut milk? Thanks
Best thing to do is dry the conkers like in our conker laundry soap video then make it as you need it 😁✌️ Because of the water it won't last too long without going funky. But people have actually been freezing our conker shampoo recipe and using it in cubes when they need it which is kinda cool too 😁
Does it need to be stored in the fridge and how long can it be stored for. This question has been asked a few times in the comments but i can seem to find a reply from yourselves please??
It makes bubbles then.... Also apparently it makes it taste better (in the same way that tea aficionados in the UK swear by putting the milk in first to make a better brew)..... says my ex mil and the rest of my kiddos family over there
Hi. Thanks for a lovely and educating video. (I also just bought your book!!! Amazing!!!!!) Question: Do you think I could make the shampoo from conkers that I have dried in the oven? Like adding hot water, like for laundry use, and then the coconut milk? This way I could make it all year long. Thanks again🍀🥀🤘🏼🦄👽❤️
Hello. Lovely ideas. Our conkers on process too. I understand with coconut milk in the fridge shampoo will stay around one week. Thinking will it stay longer in fridge just conker liquid?
I gathered some horse chestnuts from a tree at my parents. When I broke them open to get the "seeds" some where white, some where Brown and some where white with brown spots. Some of the brown ones were more hollow on the inside either dried out or had a liquid looking interior. Any idea as to the difference and if one is better to use than the others? Thanks
The ones that are solid white or brown or mixed white and brown are fine to use. The ones that are dry or hollow are probably too old. If you leave white conkers on your table for a day or two they turn brown too 🙂
Another amazing video. I have a growing list of things I want to after watching all these fab videos. The bird clock is fab. I saw chestnut cripsbreads in an zero waste shop we have here. Are they different to these conkers? Thanks for sharing!
I made this last night and used it tonight. I couldnt wait to try it but it was just like pouring cold milk on y hair, no lather at all. Is this how it is supposed to be or has it not worked properly? Love your videos by the way! :-)
Do you have any concrete sources on horse chestnut safety when applied to the skin? This sounds lovely but I can't find anything about the topical safety (or toxicity) of horse chestnut extract which keeps me from trying this. I know you said it isn't in your video but you know, always gotta practice extreme caution when foraging.
Again a nice video. Thank you for sharing! How long can you keep this shampoo? And if you can't keep it for long, can you use the same tactic as you used in the laundry soap recipe: drying the horse chestnuts?
From books and experiments. We make lots of things change them up swap things around and simplify them 🙂The horse chestnut handsoaps & shampoos are our own creations. We learned all about soap nuts and there uses but knew conkers can be used in laundry. So after much reading we learned conkers have been used in medieval times and beyond for cleaning.
