I am a gamer, for decades, but I don't do online gaming so I don't *need* a gaming router. However, when I needed to replace my old mesh system-which to be fair was still getting me a fairly consistent 400 or so Mbps but was having trouble reaching an exterior camera-I got Asus' GT6 gaming mesh router system. It reaches the outside camera *and* has been getting me a consistent 500-600 Mbps throughout the house *and* they look super cool. (I don't use any prioritization settings.)
Watching this video and thinking not many homes would need a router like this to be honest. But then you started the wrap up and I must say you did extremely well. Not for everyone, but if you tried everything else, time for this. Not forced Great video
I just sent this video to my boss, his family consists of 3 boys who game constantly and are always on their phones, they will likely have use for a router such as this.
I went cheap on my "router" a used full on enterprise server running a true firewall and a corporate grade AP. Kept it under $300 and now also have a cloud server with redundant drives.
Worth, especially in this context, is a subjective value. If your current setup is doing everything you're asking of it, it's hard to argue that it's "worth" it to buy a new router
Don't worry, your current router will soon no longer be supported and mysteriously stop working on the very day you receive the email. This happened to me with D link mesh router, coincidence?
@@Auguur I have been using my old router from 2009 for my iot projects and I have never got any problem with it still going strong in 2024 . And sir what kind of email do you get? And from who ? Router company ?

The internet provider in my area routinely cuts the connection for a minute or so about once an hour...for 11 years now. I suspect it's to encourage customers to "upgrade" to the same exact internet speed without the automatic service interruption. 😕
As an elderly home user who has no gaming requirement and currently stuck with the ISP provided hub which can be switched to modem mode I am looking for a router. I would appreciate a video aimed at those who do not wish to spend such a considerable sum on a router.

Not sure, but it seems when gaming D/L speed is more important than upload speed. What matters more is the ping on the upload and download side. More so on the upload.
Would be interesting to see performance for gamers on this router vs say a cheap fanless pc with similar ethernet ports running pfsense/opnsense and a decent wireless AP.
my internet mbps package is 1000, however my router is 150mbps? is that wrong, like should the package and router be the same mbps? and if yes, is that what causes lag and ping spikes?
They would not necessarily match. A million factors would affect the wireless speeds from your router to your devices. The biggest factors would be what wireless standards your devices and router support, as well as the distance and obstructions between them. The absolute fastest speed you could possibly see is 1000Mbps, but you'll likely never see that unless your router and device are both WiFi 6e and WiFi 7 standard.
Its worth it for traffic throttling and other features and less resets. And more tweaking of settings that can reduce headaches with a normal router. But unless your normal router has a lot of load it won't make much if any difference in isp speeds. I own and run a Asus 1909p 802.11ac Gaming router just for those purposes. Hi. Got an old tablet that keeps shutting after a few minutes. Is there anything I can do about this or should I just dump it? Old school guy here not too savvy. Thanks.
Depends upon the age; if more than a few years old, a decent tablet like a Samsung Tab S6 Lite is $185 to $300, nets you likely a better wifi, maybe a better screen and a better option overall. It's a choice. Similar to choosing to, or not, dumping $5K into a 25 year old vehicle.. Temper the equation by how much did you pay for it when it was new. Now, if your tablet is a tablet with a sim card , those are more expensive and might be worth fixing.

I'm glad I no longer live in an apartment in a city anymore. If you are concerned about the radiation from one device, well, mount it high on the wall or on top of a cabinet.. Many of these routers can also be set to run their radios at 25, 50, 75 and 100% power. You could even turn off the wifi features and run just wire..
