Even if you have to pay $1000, a PC offers so much more in the form of what you can use it for, longevity, uprade-ability, repair-ability, no online play subscription, more games, emulators, the option for an optical drive for only $20, and so much more that it's worth the extra $300
$1,000 is a low point to build something LIKE the ps5 (pro). The reality is games will be more optimized for console than for pc. Also the repair part is bullcrap for both, pc components AND consoles last for years even without proper maintenance/cleaning. The benefits of pc over console are the library of games and emulators. Most people only need a $200 laptop for their daily lives that's the reality. Also pc parts are MUCH more expensive outside the US
I built my first budget gaming PC years ago using one of your videos as a guide. Only spent 580 bucks. Was the best decision i ever made, made me confident in building pcs and was able to upgrade parts over time, now i have a 6950xt / 5800x3d build that does anything i need. Thanks jay
@pbj315 I know man, I get hate all the time for having amd parts but I just don't get it. It can play anything maxed out at 1440p, that's all I need lol
Don't speak for all people.... I like both but I mainly play on console more only because of is the PS5 controller 🎮 I'm so use to the Playstation style controller... I have to sacrifice that when using PC.
In EU the pro even cost 200 dollars more than US which means over 1000 dollars if you want the stand and disc drive. Thats when building a PC starts making more sense
The $700 is a bit misleading for people in the EU since the €800 price includes all taxes (I'm assuming it's not a pre-VAT price). Assuming a rough average sales tax the US one is $750 or roughly €680, so that makes it roughly $130 more than the US price. Looks like the UK's price is roughly $160 more.
@@Frankon81 So you mean to tell me that all EU countries should be paying the same amount of tax on the PS5 Pro but in the US you get special treatment based on which state you live in? Why would they announce EU prices with tax and US prices without tax?
@@ByTexify culture thing. In Europe (and rest of the world) we like to know that the price we see is final price. What we see is what we pay. In states they have multiple taxes that are put on the product - from like town tax up to the state tax -that sometimes are totally random....
Yeah but you don't get the actual game on a PS5 disc, you're just buying physical DRM. Every disc game I own just ends up downloading most of the game anyway. There's 0 preservation on PS5.
@@razingst0rmeven though you need to download the game off the license on the disc, you still need to have the disc to play I believe(unless they changed it) which means it’s still a “physical copy” and has some sort of resale value.
@@razingst0rm Demonstrably false. I live in an area without high speed internet. I am able to install large games (50+ GB) directly from the disc with no internet connection in about 10 minutes. There are usually patches after the installion if you want them, most of which are in the 1-5 GB range, but the complete games (v1.0) are on the disc.
@@1985EganPeter But what I said is true. The game IS on the disc, otherwise I couldn't install and play it without an internet connection. Your claim that it's not on the disc has been debunked. Personally, I don't buy any games that require an internet connection. The live service game model is inherently anti-consumer. It is designed to maximize corporate profit, while giving players as little as possible. I also don't trust Sony to not delist and/or remove digital games whenever they feel like it, or charge whatever they want because they have a monopoly on digital games, as there are no other digital options on their console. Sony is getting sued in the UK for that monopolistic business practice right now. Physical media gives you options, and having options never goes out of style. Fail to learn this at your own peril.
8K is already a thing, just games, computers, and consoles can't process it fast enough to be used, TV's / movies can. And unless you're super budget, basically every TV/Console/PC already support HDR/UHDR, and Ray Tracing is rapidly approaching being right there beside it. 8K is pretty pointless though, and if anything doesn't need to be developed any further, but tech/tv manufacturers *have* to, because if they don't once they make 8k UHDR OLed etc etc panels, and they all become so affordable people have them and aren't upgrading to the latest and greats yearly they will go out of business. So because of that Display tech will continue to be so far ahead nothing can fully utilize it, if someone bought an 8K + extras today, that display would be beyond usable spec for atleast 10 years.
Native 8k at 60fps will be talked about when the 6090 comes out. So we are less than 3 years away probably from a fully capable 8k60 GPU...The real issue with 8k is that Samsung is the only manufacture releasing 8k tv's, and they are not lowering the MRSP each year.. As long as they are the only ones releasing a yearly 8k tv, adoption rate is going to move at a snails pace
I think the PS5 pro will sell, because people with $700 would rather feel like they got the nicest possible PlayStation rather than a low-end PC. It’s about perceived value and fomo.

As someone who already owns a Series X and a PS5 and uses both on a 1440p monitor, I can confidently say this is most likely my final console generation and I'll be a strictly PC gamer after this current generation.
@@antftwx I'm the opposite. After dropping 1500 CAD on just a GPU and probably a other 2k on the rest of parts I don't think I'll get another PC. At least not from scratch. I'll go as far as am4 can take me. Hopefully by then my kids are town and can buy their own PC or have moved out.
Same here, though I'm not sure there will be another console generation, considering they are doing away with exclusives. By the time the current generation approaches the end of it's lifecycle, they will be facing stiff competition from mini PCs, handheld PCs and Steam OS, which Valve seems totally willing to share with any handheld manufacturer. Also, by then, I expect pretty much everything will be able to run on Steam OS.
The other thing that people often forget is you can hook up your PS or Xbox controller to your PC and play your games like that for a LOT of titles and you can have your casual gaming experience like on your console.
My PC auto boots into big picture. So it's very close to console. Let's be real, console are also closer to PC now. Gone are the days when you can just put disk in and play. Unless you ok with you console to be on standby, you have to sit through updates too.
Best of both worlds for me. Some games I prefer a controller. Others work better on keyboard and mouse. Whatever the case may be, I'm covered with my PC.
I claim "pc master race" but i strictly only use an xbox controller when i play games lol. I simply suck when using a keyboard and mouse even though i have decent gaming Corsair board and Logitech mouse.. I simply prefer controller and rly wish more if not ALL games had controller support!
@@neofloggin3687 to blur it more if you don't mind getting used parts then its actually cheaper to build a similar system with better performance and pc has more versitily and no extra subscription
Basically he's saying "hop on google on whatever device you can & do your own research before spewing out nonsense on what you want to happen rather than what is fact." @@xtremezone987 Well I'd argue, not really. Game launchers like Steam make installing games very easy and on consoles web browser and media watching are soooooooooo much worse than on PC and you're locked to whatever garbage media player they provide that doesn't ever support proprietary codecs.
@@acidthefurry6684problem is you have to actually install steam os. The people that want the plug and play functionality of a console probably don’t want to do any of the extra stuff. I can imagine someone that has no tech knowledge may have less tolerance for pc than myself.
6800 is not the PS5 gpu lol also you get 2 free games a month maybe 3 IDK. Inflation caused EVERYTHING to go up since the PS5 launched 4 years ago. people complain then buy a 4090 for $1750
The major upsell of a pc is the freedom to mod games, the freedom to add any controller, headset, steering wheel, flight stick, ext to the pc without proprietary headaches and locked out features…case n point, the psvr2 is only compatible with the ps5…yet i would love to also use it on my flight sims on my pc with my 3080gpu but I play mostly GT7 on ps with my wheel but I can’t uses top line wheel tech that is more budget friendly bc it’s only working on pc do to proprietary ps5 comms
I mean, specifically people are pissed that the price point went to $700 USD, and while there is a performance uplift (they didn't show it well), the main issue is that is 200 bucks more, with no disc drive included, and no vertical stand (which is whatever to me, but people did bring it up as a pain point). If people are spending that much (especially if they don't have really good internet), a disc drive is 100% a must.
Yeah the reason I have no interest in the ps5 pro is simply that the disc drive is a forced extra. No thanks. I actually use my ps5 as my blu ray player, and I like buying physical game copies on console often times, I need that disc drive. Paying 775 dollars just to get like 60fps ray tracing in some games... nah if it is a graphically crazy game like cyberpunk I will just stick to pc for that.
Note that in presentation they cleverly hid that actually it isn't fidelity and performance at the same time. Remember when he said "with somethin almost like a fidelity look" implying that you may not complete fidelity on 60 fps on pro.
Disclaimer: I am a PC player and long ago abandoned consoles (PS2 maybe? lol). I have long said and continue to argue that PCs are better for gaming in almost every way - even if you want to game on your nice TV from your couch with a controller. However, there is something console players get that PC users will never get - optimization. Because a console is locked down with proprietary software and even some of the hardware, every console should behave the same way every time. Yes, obviously there are outliers just like there are with literally everything, but in general that PS5 sitting on Jay's desk should behave the same as any other PS5 in anyone else's house. Because of this, games released on consoles can be ultra optimized by the devs all the way down to the most miniscule of tweaks in an attempt to squeeze the most performance or the best looking visuals on potentially lesser hardware - and it should be rather consistent from machine to machine. This is why a lot of console gamers believe they're getting the better deal because they didn't have to do anything other than plug it in, and turn it on Look, we ALL know more than one person in our lives that we just wish DIDN'T have a computer because they're so tech-illiterate that they're always asking for help. Do you want THAT person gaming on a custom gaming PC? Absolutely NOT. There's also just something to be said for the ease of use and convenience of a console - and for some people that's worth it even if they know they could be getting more with a PC Anyway there's something for everyone, and I truly believe that the argument of "which is better" is literally the stupidest argument ever because they just aren't made for the same people for the same purpose TY for coming to my TeD TaLk
its like the iPhones vs android comparison, all iPhones run on the same software and basically hardware, so that means that optimizing for all iPhones will be easier, unlike android, where each android phone is completely different
Well said. Good balance of pros and cons and pointing out the whole different strokes for different folks thing. I am also a PC gamer, (5900x & 3080) and love the high quality visuals and FPS I get @3440x1440. I'm still going to be buying a PS5 Pro. Why? As you said, optimization and plug'n'play. A benefit you left out are the few exclusive games (if you care about the exclusives, which, yes, I do). There are also some game publishers (Looking at you Ubisoft and EA) that have launchers and unoptimized/laggy games with Jedi Survivor being a perfect example of unoptimized/laggy a year and change after release, when my pc should have a smooth high FPS experience. On PS5, I've heard it plays a lot better, and bonus, doesn't have the stupid launchers. Also, I will be buying the UHD-bluray player for 4k movie night which is something my pc CANNOT do since I can't find a 4kBluRay player for PC (that reads 4k movies, ask my UHD-bluray read/writer for my PC on the difference *exasperated sigh*). FInal reason for buying the PS5 Pro, I have an OG PS4 with a ton of games for it (some on discs) which will benefit from the PS5 Pro's backwards compatability and uplift in visuals/performance. Disclaimer: If I already owned a PS5, I wouldn't buy the PS5 Pro, just like I didn't buy the PS4 pro because I have an OG PS4.
With a PC, you just brute force your way through the bad optimisations, I dropped consoles when they stopped making real mod chips for them, PS2 and OG XBOX if I remember, I much prefer to own my hardware and do what ever I like with it, versus this locked down eco system of consoles today, even if I have to pay twice as much for it, a powerful PC doesn't just play games, it has a crap ton of other uses, so much better investment in my opinion, I run a HTPC with Bazzite on there and it turns my TV into giant Steamdeck, very console like experience.
And the fact that for a casual AAA gamer or for kids console is just better, can't beat the ease of use and price in those scenarios. But the Pro is still overpriced, even if it's better value for the hardware.
The reason they said “67%” instead of “60 CUs” is because to 99.999% of people on the planet, “60 CUs” means absolutely nothing. They won’t have a clue how many CUs the PS5 has, or even what that means (“is that like 4K or something?”) But 67%… well, that’s clearly a more biggerer, betterer, more impressive number! You will obviously get 67% more graphics! (This is still a rip off, just explaining how marketing droids think)
I love marketing, its an entire industry where your job is to sell things to people that are the furthest removed from the item your pitching xD Your not selling ice to an eskimo your selling ice to a camel...
That's because the way they explained it in the reveal was very disingenuous, it is actually a change in architecture, the PS5 Pro is using a RDNA 3 Navi 32 Chip because it has a better upscaling performance. But even still it only barely breaks even with the Xbox's RDNA 2 Navi 21 chip
Of course it’s disingenuous. That’s by design. The entire gaming hardware industry is designed to confuse consumers. You think the average punter on the street understands that 4060 is worse than a 3080? And surely a 6700 is better than both, right? I pay attention to this shit and even I couldn’t tell you if an Xbox series X or S is better (partly cos I don’t care).

Consoles also are generally sold at a loss or close to it since they are subsidized by game sales. The PS5 pro not having some other selling point makes the $700 price tag not as bearable. For example, the PS3 being a $600 bluray player ON TOP OF being a console at a time when bluray players alone were $1,000 was it's selling point and I've heard that they actually cost Sony $1k to make. Of course bluray was Sony's format and it won, so they've made WAAAY more back.
It's a silly comparison. Someone on a budget can buy used components off ebay. An RTX 3080 is $350 and that will easily outperm a PS5 pro with older CPUs and cheap RAM. "a PC plays every PC, console and arcade game ever made" & "PS5 has a limited library and doesn't go back further than the PS4" Those are both flat out LIES. Where do you get your info from? Fox? Newsmax? OAN?
Remember, you HAVE to compare this to the PS5 digital (which is $399), because the PS5 Pro does not have the disc drive. It's actually $780 if you want to compare it to the $499 disc version. Thus, it's $280-300 more expensive. It's not $200 more.
Still a dick move my Sony for locking people's physical libraries behind an $80 paywall in the form of the separately sold Blu-ray drive. Actually you don't gain performance using GDDR on a CPU because of they way it is tuned/optimized for graphics which creates higher latencies when used with a CPU .... That's why you never see GDDR RAM sold by computer memory vendors ..... Believe me if they could just slap GDDR chips on a UDIMM and gain higher performance they would have done that long ago Another thing you got wrong is the PS5 Pro has AI cores and will use AI upscaling ( PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) like DLSS or XeSS although we can't say yet if Sony's AI upscaler will be as good as DLSS .... Frankly I think this is actually AMD's AI upscaling co-developed with Sony and will eventually be FSR4 and AMD is simply holding it back from PC users so Sony would have first crack at it. The reason I believe that is the 7000 series GPUs have the same AI cores but they are not currently being used. I suspect they won't be used until the next gen AMD GPUs are released and then AMD will also release FSR4 which will be an AI upscaler like DLSS
You can do it for even less than that if you go used. (And you really should consider it for any item besides the hard drive.) Highest priced item by far is gonna be getting a modern graphics card, though you can also get an older generation card and still do an awful lot with it. It also heavily depends on what games you want to play. If you don't care to play the latest bloated-ass AAA Unreal Engine 5 slop, you can get away with even more. Hell, you may even get away with using one of AMD's APUs depending on your use case.
I think the biggest positive for PC is the fact you can play pretty much any PC game in existence with a PC. You can also play the majority of console games on the same PC up to 360/ps4. You can also upgrade that system at any time and do not have to buy a whole new system every 3-5 years.
26:57 or buy your card used off the bat if you're getting last gen stuff. I got a 3070 Ti for $270 last month. According to the chart earlier that's 98% equivalent to the ps5 pro plus it gives the advantages of nvidia cards for upscaling.
I put together a list of parts for 838 euros, which includes a ryzen 5 5600, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, 650 watt psu, and a 7800xt, just for the sake of doing it. the PS5 pro is SO much more expensive than it's worth!
The PS5 Pro will have better performance than that build, especially in RT because of having RDNA 4 features (that's why they claim up to 3x RT performance over the base PS5). Not to mention it won't have issues with shader compilation stutter etc.. because it has everything pre-compiled as a fixed platform device and programmed straight to the metal without having to go through DX12. The last consoles I owned were PS3/Xbox 360, so don't think I'm just a console fanboy or something.
That build is not a small form factor and does not have WiFi 7, BT v5.4, a 2 TB NVME PCIe 5.0 (the fastest in the market), a wireless game controller, and PSSR.
I also put something together quickly and came up with 839.59€ (PS5 Pro 799.99€ with stand 829.98€): AMD 3700X, ZEN2 8core like PS5 Pro 7800XT, RDNA3 60cu like PS5 Pro graphics memory 16 GB 256 Bit GDDR6 624GB/s, ps5 pro 16GB 256 Bit GDDR6 576 GB/s (shared with CPU) 16Gb DDR4 ram 2tb ssd 7400MB/s read, 34% faster than the 5500MB/s of the PS5 (I didn't find any speed for the pro) 500W power supply Wi-fi7 like PS5 pro BT5.3, PS5 pro BT5.4 wireless game controller if you add a Blury burner it becomes 903,64€ (PS5 Pro with Blury drive 919,98€, PS5 Pro with Blury drive and stand 949,99€) I realize that nobody in their right mind would configure a PC like this. and yes, PSSR is not included. if AI upscaling is important to you, you'll go for NVIDA on the PC, but that would mean having a graphics card that is less comparable to the PS5 Pro. and yes, the PC is also larger 28.70l vs PS5 10.5l. but if you are willing to spend about 200€ more, you can also get the PC in 7.5l. I wouldn't class any of the parts as being great or reliable. This was just to show that you can get extremely close to the PS5 Pro's price, specs and performance. If at the expense of sacrificing some RT performance and build quality. In fact you probably could hit that $700, if you went even cheaper on lesser branded parts, looked around in sales, picked up a combo deal from MicroCenter or obviously bought some used parts.
@@promo130 Then 2 other options: Option 1: Change it for Gigabyte B550 M K and pay $4 more. Yeah, it gives you PCIe 4.0, which allows you to eventually upgrade it with a faster SSD and faster RAM. However, you lose out on 2 Ram slots, it's onboard VRM's are terrible and it's general build quality is poor in comparison (Did breifly consider it). Option 2: Is to buy a low-end B550M motherboard by ASUS or MSI for around $20-$50 more, instead. However, that then defeats the entire purpose of trying to keep it as close to the price of the PS5 Pro, as possible. Also, a B450 motherboard is more than adequate for the rest of the components that I listed. It's also more than adequate to be used in a build that equals or beats a PS5 Pro. Sticking the parts that I used into a B550 motherboard instead, would barely make any impact at all to it's output performance. It would only open up a few more upgrade paths. I personally wouldn't cheap out on parts for a build that at equals or betters a PS5 Pro. However, it's $700 overall cost was a major constraint. So I went for as cheap as possible components, while still using well renown brands. In doing so, I also wavered away some possible upgrade paths. But let's face it, the PS5 Pro is still far more limited in that regard.
I mean that graphic card isnt equivalent to the ps5 pro either, this in fact prove your gonna have a bottom of the barrell pc to not even match the ps5 pro, according to steam the ps5 pro is probably gonna perform better than the vast majority of ppl on steam.
@brotherdarknessgaming4479 The ps5 pro has rdna 2 GPU with so slightly better raytracing at best you better off just building a pc around a 7700XT which will run you $900.
Hey Jay, Always appreciate your content and analysis. One area I’m often curious about is the “Bang for your buck” build. I know this is subjective because it depends on where someone is willing to make sacrifices but I’d be interested to see what you would recommend for a complete build.
Add 300 and i just build a beast that will work for 8years easy for my wife 7600x cpu and a used 6900xt gpu and 32gb ram and 2tb storage in m.2 form factor.
A $700 budget is not what people on a budget usually have to spend on a PC. A budget build is usually around the $300-$500 range, and yes, that gives you a subpar gaming PC, but that's the point, as long as it works it's good to go.
13:07 why should no PC gamer play on a TV??? I wasn't even aware that there is a right and a wrong way of doing it. Just because having a dedicated desk and sitting right in front of your monitor is right for you doesn't mean it's the only acceptable way. I've been gaming on a 65" OLED TV at 120Hz for the past five years or so and I had a lot of fun with it. My TV is better than most monitors. It's color graded and I'm even editing all my photos on the TV. Claiming that people SHOULDN'T use a TV for a PC is just nonsense.
@@Caddi1985 Many TVs have game mode. My 65" 4K 120Hz VRR HDR109 tv has been measured to 8ms input lag in game mode, which is perfectly fine for couch gaming, and not much than most 120hz gaming monitors on the market.
It's a matter of pixel density that prevents most from using a larger display like a 65" 4k TV as a monitor. Sure they are much better now then in the past with latency. BUT I don't feel like sitting 10+ feet away from the display in order to not see the pixels. A 65" 4K TV is unusable when you are too close, and at a proper distance to prevent seeing the pixels, you're basically turning your 65" TV into a usable 27 - 34" display. SO for me I would rather just slap three 27" 1440p monitors in front of me. At the typical desk sitting distance (about 3 feet)a 27" 1440P monitor has enough pixel density to not distinguish the spaces between them. So as long as you are happy with sitting that far from your display, cool. Also If your TV was 4k and 40" or less then pixel density wouldn't be an issue, but then you would have to sit much closer, weight of a TV would be the main concern at that point, as most quality higher pixel dense TV weigh substantially more then a monitor. Since they tend to forgo the speakers, TV tuner and other things that add the weight to the TV.
@@JJ_ExMachina I Play on 42" LG OLED, 2 meters from screen. Pixel density is really good in 4K games. 1440p is a bit blurrier but still looks nice. My friend have 55" and 65". He basically stop using 65" one because of pixel density.
@@nerdrocker89You are not going to damage it, and you could also get a $10-15 stand from amazon. I really don't understand why people keep bringing up the stand when it never needed one, it was there on the first model because it was used for the horizontal position also, there's no need for that anymore.
The problem with everyone right now is they're all still guessing. We have the numbers Sony gave, but numbers on paper don't ever tell the entire story. Not to mention, it's going to be up to devs to actually program their games to take advantage of the PS5 Pro. I would bet my entire life that most studios will be lazy and put a basic toggle in the graphical settings that still just has a boost mode and performance mode, just like the base PS5 which will give an extra 10% performance over the base PS5.
“Pc gamers should not be playing on a TV” is such a condescending statement. PC gamers can play however they want: a TV with a controller, via Moonlight with game streaming to a handheld, on their lap with a laptop - it really doesn’t matter. That statement was so self-righteous and dumb that it’s put me off Jay lmao
I could be wrong, but isn't this because of latency/input lag and refresh rates? Obviously it's still a bit silly but I don't think he's just saying it for literally no reason, probably just something he's internalized lol. I've always heard you shouldn't do all your editing on a TV for the same reason

Don't forget to include dualsense controller price ($70) to PC budget.

@@speedforce131 Wifi and bluetooth are built into most motherboards options, but even if you get a low end mobo without it, a wifi/bt adapter is 20 bucks. Also, xbox based controllers have more compatibility with computers than playstation based controllers.
@@Avenge_Computers Is that what they call it ?! .... 😆. I'm just saying it's funny how much things have changed, they use to take a loss of the systems ( according to what Jay is saying ) and that loss was made up for in game sales ( which wasn't $70 but more in the range of $20 - $60 depending the games ) and there wasn't any subscription fees or at least that I was aware of. Last time I had a console when new was back when PS3 came out.
@@promo130 They don't sell the base PS5 at a loss. That is crazy talk. The CPU probably costs them close to nothing, it's a 5 year old architecture that isn't even sold in stores anymore. All of the components are old and Sony probably gets them at dirt cheap prices in bulk.
@@JunLudenwhen it comes to console vs pc i have never seen that happen, the only times that it comes close is when you buy used parts ( unreliable), buy bundles like microcenter ( if you have access). And even then its never the same. Is the pc better than the ps5 if you have the same or better performance? Yes, but at the moment making a pc with the same perfomance of a ps5 is more expensive. The monthly subscription argument can be made but not everyone uses it. But we will only know the total when the ps5 dies.
@@gordo05057 I can easily build a PC just as powerful or even more powerful than the PS5 Pro, for the same price or less, without using any second-hand components. The problem is that when people think about building a new PC that's just as powerful, they only consider budgets with the latest components or expensive brands like Nvidia, even though the PS5 uses AMD architecture. It doesn't make sense to compare it with Nvidia builds, which cost much more just to get a similar experience
I really think that the mentality of "Consoles vs PCs" has always been such a strange mentality for people to have. They serve different purposes, despite having an overlap in both offering a way to play games. For anyone who just wants something that they can plug and play (aside from setting up an account, now, I guess) and expect it to just work, without the relative complexities of Windows/Mac/Linux on top of whatever games services for a PC, and whatever potential tech support issues they may find with getting controllers/peripherals working on different games/services, and any of the other potential oddities that can come with PC gaming. I love gaming on my PC, but I would never suggest PC gaming to the less tech savvy people in my life, because I know it would simply mean constant headaches for me for however long it took to get things working for them, and whenever anything went wrong. Meanwhile a console just works. Obviously on the other hand, if someone wants more than just a gaming machine, then they're already not going to be looking for a console. Realistically, I think the PS5 pro is mostly going to be a very low-yield product, that is going to serve as a way to make the cost of the base model PS5 look less daunting by comparison for parents going to the store to buy Christmas presents, or people looking to get a PS5 so they can play the exclusive games/play online with their friends. The PS4 pro sold around 15% of the total PS4 sales, and it was a much bigger (or at least more significant) jump over the base model, at a smaller price jump (obviously at a very different economic time in the world as well). So I'm guessing Sony is expecting the PS5 pro to sell _less_ relative to the base PS5, which is why they've priced it higher, both to bring it closer to their cost (or even sell it at a profit) and to - as I previously mentioned - have it be the "big intimidating price" next to the (relatively) lower priced base model that will even be bundled with a game (or multiple) this holiday season.
@@gamerdweebentertainment1616 I don't even think it's that, it's more that there are older people, kids, and just people who don't necessarily care so much about getting tech savvy that want to be able to play games, and using PCs can seem entirely daunting to them, compared to the very curated console experience. It's also why mobile gaming is so popular, it has such a low barrier to entry.
I used to game on PC and build my own rigs, but most PC gamers often overlook is the main advantage of playing in a console: you can just turn them on, play for 15-45 minutes, and relax on the bed or couch without worrying about optimizations, compatibility issues, game-breaking updates, or background apps interfering. Every year, I kept upgrading my graphics card and evaluating other parts that bottlenecked performance, which only added more stress and caused me to overspend on hardware rather than the games themselves. When you're tired from work, busy, or not having enough time, you don't have to deal with any of that hassle on a console.
So you mean you can't just open up Steam and select a game and play it for 15 to 45 minutes on a TV in the Living Room. Holy shit I must be some kind of Miracle worker because I do that every day.
That is what Steamdecks are for, also you can easily use a wireless controller connected to a pc hooked up to a TV. My PC is hooked up to my monitor and TV so I can choose where I want to sit. You can even remotely turn the PC on if you so desire, all you are really showing is the PC has way more options and can be as casual or hardcore a setup as the user wants.
This is kind of my outlook, a bit different but close. The plug and play "you get what you get" of console gaming eliminates all of the stress i felt with pc gaming . Obsessing over settings, framerates, etc. killed the fun for me. That's just me though
@@ianmansfield8245 I think you are right, consoles are for the more casual gamers who do not really care too much about frame rates or having the option to upgrade their hardware at any point they desire. With a console you are locked into that system for the next 5-10 years depending how long the generation lasts, whereas I can upgrade my CPU or GPU at any point if I want the maximum a game can be. PC's can be used casually on the couch or not if the user desires and it also worth mentioning the digital store fronts on PC are much much cheaper because they all have to compete with each other. Even day one AAA releases can often be found minimum 10$ cheaper if you shop around the key shops, not to mention the weekly sales. Using bundles that a significant number of people won't have access to (with an asterisk!), a GPU that you forget to mention is refurbished, and conveniently don't include any way to control the system in your budget. Imagine if a console didn't get 'bundled' with a controller! Look, I game on PC, Series X and PS5, but trying to mislead the PC community into believing that you can create a build close to the PS5 Pro for the same money is deluded. Yes, a PC is a far more capable platform for many things, but we have to accept that if you want access to the latest games on a budget, it simply cannot compete with consoles as a value proposition. Anyone trying to tell themselves otherwise is misguided. I would have been genuinely interested in a fair comparison, but this is ridiculous.
Thanks for the summary, I wasn't taking the video seriously, not cause it was wrong. Just don't really see building a PC being cheap. At least not a high performing one. 4K gaming is just expensive, and even then I still notice that it's not perfect on PC.

I don't even think 8k will ever be a thing for a very long time. Just seems very unnecessary. HDR would have a much bigger impact on visuals I think.

As long as they are the only ones releasing a yearly 8k tv, adoption rate is going to move at a snails pace

"You look like a complete moron". Let'em have it Jay. I love it.
Basically he's saying "hop on google on whatever device you can & do your own research before spewing out nonsense on what you want to happen rather than what is fact." Yes PC will probably always trump console in overall performance but console will probably always trump PC in convenience & ease. If you have the patience to learn, buy a PC, but if you just want to game buy a console.
@@xtremezone987 steam os is practically the same as console convenience tho
@@xtremezone987 Well I'd argue, not really. Game launchers like Steam make installing games very easy and on consoles web browser and media watching are soooooooooo much worse than on PC and you're locked to whatever garbage media player they provide that doesn't ever support proprietary codecs.
😭
@@acidthefurry6684problem is you have to actually install steam os. The people that want the plug and play functionality of a console probably don’t want to do any of the extra stuff. Configuring hardware, finding a better os, drivers, the whole suite. I’m a tech guy, in my day job I’m a software engineer, so I have no issue navigating a pc, but sometimes if there’s a hiccup, I’m just gonna turn off my pc and play my ps5 simply because I don’t want to deal with it. I can imagine someone that has no tech knowledge may have less tolerance for pc than myself.
The extra money you'd need to run the Rx6800 comes from just 5 months of PS+ Premium....

Not just that, games are cheaper by buying the disc the majority of the time, especially used.
The PS5 Slim didn't come with a Stand or Bluray drive and was $450.
Ever since Ai introduce. Each gen performance uplift is very disappointed & expensive
This is why a lot of console gamers believe they're getting the better deal because they didn't have to do anything other than plug it in, and turn it on
Look, we ALL know more than one person in our lives that we just wish DIDN'T have a computer because they're so tech-illiterate that they're always asking for help. Do you want THAT person gaming on a custom gaming PC? Absolutely NOT. There's also just something to be said for the ease of use and convenience of a console - and for some people that's worth it even if they know they could be getting more with a PC
Anyway there's something for everyone, and I truly believe that the argument of "which is better" is literally the stupidest argument ever because they just aren't made for the same people for the same purpose
TY for coming to my TeD TaLk
I only keep my console around for its exclusives. Everything else is on PC. Steam Deck is the best console to date
its like the iPhones vs android comparison, all iPhones run on the same software and basically hardware, so that means that optimizing for all iPhones will be easier, unlike android, where each android phone is completely different
They won’t have a clue how many CUs the PS5 has, or even what that means (“is that like 4K or something?”)
But 67%… well, that’s clearly a more biggerer, betterer, more impressive number!
Percentages change. CU counts don't. For example, the 890m has 33% more CUs then the 880m but doesn't equate to 33% more performance. More like 15%
Of course it’s disingenuous. That’s by design. The entire gaming hardware industry is designed to confuse consumers.
You think the average punter on the street understands that 4060 is worse than a 3080? And surely a 6700 is better than both, right?

Actually you don't gain performance using GDDR on a CPU because of they way it is tuned/optimized for graphics which creates higher latencies when used with a CPU .... That's why you never see GDDR RAM sold by computer memory vendors ..... Believe me if they could just slap GDDR chips on a UDIMM and gain higher performance they would have done that long ago
Another thing you got wrong is the PS5 Pro has AI cores and will use AI upscaling ( PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) like DLSS or XeSS although we can't say yet if Sony's AI upscaler will be as good as DLSS ....
It isn't GDDR tho - parts of each chip are treated like CPU Cache, since the PS1 and Xbox.

I think the biggest positive for PC is the fact you can play pretty much any PC game in existence with a PC. You can also play the majority of console games on the same PC up to 360/ps4. You can also upgrade that system at any time and do not have to buy a whole new system every 3-5 years.
You can also emulate PS1/2/3 on pc very well now

I sure hope Micro Center opens a store in Spokane WA some day! They seem like the ultimate build yourself a PC store and I want to visit one so bad!
If you're going to build a new system, I would highly suggest going to zen 4 CPUs. You'll get your money's worth with the upgradeability.
I also put something together quickly and came up with 839.59€ (PS5 Pro 799.99€ with stand 829.98€):
AMD 3700X, ZEN2 8core like PS5 Pro
7800XT, RDNA3 60cu like PS5 Pro
graphics memory 16 GB 256 Bit GDDR6 624GB/s, ps5 pro 16GB 256 Bit GDDR6 576 GB/s (shared with CPU)
16Gb DDR4 ram
2tb ssd 7400MB/s read, 34% faster than the 5500MB/s of the PS5 (I didn't find any speed for the pro)
500W power supply
Wi-fi7 like PS5 pro
BT5.3, PS5 pro BT5.4
wireless game controller
if you add a Blury burner it becomes 903,64€ (PS5 Pro with Blury drive 919,98€, PS5 Pro with Blury drive and stand 949,99€)
I realize that nobody in their right mind would configure a PC like this.
and yes, PSSR is not included. if AI upscaling is important to you, you'll go for NVIDA on the PC, but that would mean having a graphics card that is less comparable to the PS5 Pro.
and yes, the PC is also larger 28.70l vs PS5 10.5l. but if you are willing to spend about 200€ more, you can also get the PC in 7.5l.
(shared with CPU)
😂😂😂 no its not
Here's an on budget and a more like for like build. Only from Part Picker:
CPU: R5 Ryzen 3600 - $89.99
Cooler: Stock Fan - $0
MB: Asus Prime B450-A II - $69.98
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw V 16GB DDR4 3200 CL16 - $32.98
SSD: Teamgroup MP33 2TB NVMe SSD - $96.99
GPU: Acer Nitro OC RX 7700XT - $379.99
Case: Cool Master Master Box Q300L - $39.99
PSU: ThermalTake Smart 600 80+ 600W PSU - $40.99
Total Cost: $750.92
However, I personally would upgrade most of the parts if I was building a PC in this region.
😂 wow b450 😂😂😂
@@promo130 Then 2 other options:
Option 1: Change it for Gigabyte B550 M K and pay $4 more.

Tvs usually have higher response time which creates input lag.
@@Caddi1985 Many TVs have game mode. My 65" 4K 120Hz VRR HDR109 tv has been measured to 8ms input lag in game mode, which is perfectly fine for couch gaming, and not much than most 120hz gaming monitors on the market.
LG C1 and current gen 55” tvs have 1ms look it up
It's a matter of pixel density that prevents most from using a larger display like a 65" 4k TV as a monitor.

The problem with everyone right now is they're all still guessing. We have the numbers Sony gave, but numbers on paper don't ever tell the entire story.
Well said, no idea what happened to PC education in my country, but god damn some people refuse to touch settings on fear of breaking something.
I had to scroll a lot to find a reasoned take. Well stated.
