I just want to say thank you for being so open and honest about having anxiety, and how you have found ways to handle living with it. You show me that living with anxiety is not the same as suffering from anxiety, a reminder I often need.
I am blown away by some of these rude posts! I hope you are learning to let them go and pay no attention to them! I am truly a planner nerd, I love everything about planners, organizing, rituals and our sacred planning time. Keep up the good work my friend!
Great video, thanks for sharing! I have 3 planners...and Erin Condren used for all of my children's appts and sports. An A5 that you inspired me to purchase 2 yrs ago and I just purchased a personal one for my handbag. Like you, I do much better when I write things down, I've tried the techy route but I always forget to look back at it and I have a harder time keeping up with it. Thanks for being such an inspiration!
I totally understand why you enjoy your planners! For OCD it helps us relieve that inner tension. I would even go so far as to call it a hobby. And we all have a total right to the hobbies we enjoy!! (AND just as many different hobbies as we enjoy, too!)

Great video. Love these updates to your planner. I bought the case as well, I put my Erin Condrin Planner on one side and my Vera Bradley binder for bills on the other side. I love this idea, I never do anything in the same place, so this keeps these two important planners mobile. Thanks for sharing!

This how I found you a year ago--your Filofax review. I wasn't new to day planners but was getting back into one after trying to go digital. Thanks for pointing me toward LePen (which I love) and the Martha Stewart dewdrops. I use them both all the time. I recently bought DIY Fish for a new pocket wallet and my established A5. I'll post a pic on your Facebook page. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a 1 dop in Fish's store.

Having multiple calendars makes total sense to me! I have two - one at my office and one for personal use. I like to keep business and personal separate and that works out well. I cannot manage my busy life without having a planner. Thanks for sharing...I think I might try Filofax next year. =-)
Great video Jen! I personally do not have the time for a planner , however I have a teacher's planner which I use to keep track of my work at school- at home I just do things as I go along. I really wished I could actually plan my day. I like how organised you are, and how inspirational you are. Maybe next year I will have a personal planner. Right now I was supppsed to be cooking but I am still in bed watching video! Oh no!:)

That's actually how I found you way back when you did a video from Utah with your old (large!) project planner and pouch carrier, which I believe you subsequently lost. :(. We moved at the end of last year and I still can't find my 2014 planner so since I've already missed 2 months and I'm working in a reactionary mode (which I don't like at all -- the Virgo in me is having a fit!) I need to find a replacement to pull my world together! Thanks for inspiring me to do so!

This was an awesome post!!! Sadly we're only two months into the year, and I needed to be inspired to use it again. :) a new habit I want to add, planing my weekly goals on Sunday and my goals for the next day the night before. I do it for work, I should definitely do it for my personal life!

I've just had small moleskins these past years, but I never got one for 2014 because I felt I couldn't fit everything in there. I'm not belittling housewives. What I'm saying is that people who are actually busy don't have time for 10 planners. If you're a housewife without kids and with a housekeeper you have a lot of free time. Time that women with children, with jobs, and without hired help do not have.
I'm a housewife who also homeschools three children, teaches online for a local college, and does not have a housekeeper (though that would be nice) and I have time to keep up with a planner, a work calendar, and a family calendar. It's a matter of priorities. In my family, keeping those calendars/planners keep us organized (and do their small part to save my sanity), so it's worth it to me to take the time to keep up with them.
It's recommended that leather is not stored in plastic because the leather can not breath. The mesh on the other hand would be better for leather. Just an FYI :)
Good to know!, I don't actually store mine in there, just use it to pack it up when traveling. From now on I'll keep the Filo in the mesh (breathable) side and the EC Life Planner in the vinyl pocket. TFS!
The A5 is a great size isn't it! I use mine for coordinating my full-time college classes, my son's college and high school classes, my full-time work from home job, my husband's job and his side business, my younger son's sports and music lessons, what nights I need to stay with my elderly grandparents, and what volunteer commitments either myself, my hubby, or my kids have made and the usual boring household stuff (grocery inventories, menus, coupons, projects). Would love to see a more detailed breakdown of your days (if you have a video up already could someone direct me? thanks!)

I have just started using a filofax and don't know what to do in order to keep the pages together for a reference years down the road. Thanks so much for all our inspiration!

I never thought of planners and planning as a hobby but really it is not much different than scrap booking. I have kept a calendar/planner for years but certainly not to the extent that others do.
Pretty much all the stuff you have in your calendar, you can make yourself by using the computer and some scrapbook paper. The plastic inserts you can purchase at office depot.
My favorite colour of the Filofax! I think next year I might make the plunge :). I am using one specifically designed for dog groomers right now that I printed at home but I feel kinda meh about it.
Is there another planner like this one that you recommend? I LOVE the pockets and zipper on the inside but can't seem to find any like this one, since I know that this one was discontinued.
Checkout the planner community, because it huge, and you would be surprise at how many planners some of these people have and use in their everyday life.
gmfuhlman1 I'm in some of the planner groups and, yes, there are some who have shelves full of planners. I have a few that I actually use as a wallet with a month or two worth of actual planner inside. Others, they decorate their pages and all that jazz. I guess it's no different than collecting handbags, shoes, or whatever else floats your boat. They don't use them all at one time but rather switch them out ever so often.
You shouldn't belittle a housewife. The title "housewife" entails so much more than the bon bon eating lazy sack of skin that you seem to think it does. Women who take their lives seriously can accomplish so much that you are missing out on by being at work 40 hours a week.
I wasn't belittling being a housewife since I am one. I was making a comment to the person that was saying that Jen was in overkill. Because that is all that she is one.

LOVED this video Jen. I have a couple questions if you get a chance to answer. Do you move the MS teardrop stickers from week to week? I find that doing that, then when looking back through my calendar I always wonder if I completed it for sure. LOL #2 Do you find the LePens bleed at all on the Filofax paper? Thanks Jen. Hey Jen... have you tried the DIYfish planner inserts in your Filofax A5? I love to track things and the spread is wonderful. If you haven't seen them just google DIYfish planner inserts and you will see. I really think you would love this and it would be a great addition to your Filofax

Well you can't get your head around this well there is a whole community of people, who have more than one planner, and they are housewife and some of them have home-based business etc.
I really don't understand the point of more than one planner. At all. If the planner was actually good, couldn't *everything* be kept in it? I guess I believe more in simplicity. Maybe writing in planners is like a hobby for some people? But I don't get it..
Personally I like having the two, because I can plan out my daily to-dos while looking at my posting planner side by side. I think it comes down to a matter of personal preference.
I recently narrowed my planner/binder workbooks down to 3 just yesterday!! I begin my year on my birthday (which is in March :) ) And I completely get it. I am a mom, and I have survived cancer though it has left me chronically ill, and I have a handcrafts business, and lastly I have a poetry blog and a book (or several) in process. NOT keeping those PROJECT ACTIVITIES (not hobbies) in their own space would be an eternal chaotic mess. It would be like a student keeping recipes in their backpack, and like putting jewelry tools in the diaper bag, and I can come up with a zillion metaphors, lol. Its a NECESSARY and a sanity saving one at that. ON THE OTHER HAND, and to agree with you completely, YES it is also an enjoyable activity, planning and decorating planner pages etc......at the end or at the beginning of all those tasks, and responsibilities, engaging in creative work releases DOPAMINE (a positive chemical in the brain) and not only does it help anti-stress but for me personally having trouble with memory due to surgeries etc... it helps me better remember both what I am planning as well as what I have already done, and accomplish. I remember things better visually and I have photographic memory so I can't imagine any other way. I have loved office supplies since I was a child, and Hello Kitty stores, my father is a dentist and playing office in his office was my favorite thing to do, Now I play office in my office :D (Sorry about the long reply, can you tell I am a writer :D hehehe
Have you tried decorating your weekly pages? It looks cute, but I tried it for one week and it wasn't my style! I much prefer just color coding. Thanks for the post!

Is there another planner like this one that you recommend? I LOVE the pockets and zipper on the inside but can't seem to find any like this one, since I know that this one was discontinued.
A little planner overkill for a housewife. Most of us with full time jobs don't have time to fill out 10 different planners. LOL.
Checkout the planner community, because it huge, and you would be surprise at how many planners some of these people have and use in their everyday life.
gmfuhlman1 I'm in some of the planner groups and, yes, there are some who have shelves full of planners. I have a few that I actually use as a wallet with a month or two worth of actual planner inside. Others, they decorate their pages and all that jazz. I guess it's no different than collecting handbags, shoes, or whatever else floats your boat. They don't use them all at one time but rather switch them out ever so often.
You shouldn't belittle a housewife. The title "housewife" entails so much more than the bon bon eating lazy sack of skin that you seem to think it does. Women who take their lives seriously can accomplish so much that you are missing out on by being at work 40 hours a week.
I wasn't belittling being a housewife since I am one. I was making a comment to the person that was saying that Jen was in overkill. Because that is all that she is one.

DIYFish also has day on one page. I find that fits my style better too!!
LOVED this video Jen. I have a couple questions if you get a chance to answer. Do you move the MS teardrop stickers from week to week? I find that doing that, then when looking back through my calendar I always wonder if I completed it for sure. LOL #2 Do you find the LePens bleed at all on the Filofax paper? Thanks Jen. I can only hope to be 1/2 this organized before I leave this Earth...I am trying.
I don't move the stickers - I just buy a few stacks of the tear drops. Also, I personally haven't had issue with the LePens bleeding. Hope that helps!

Hey Jen... have you tried the DIYfish planner inserts in your Filofax A5? I love to track things and the spread is wonderful. If you haven't seen them just google DIYfish planner inserts and you will see. I really think you would love this and it would be a great addition to your Filofax

Anyways, I love planners, organization and keeping my life on track, but I'm in high school! I was wondering if you had any tips/could maybe do a video on planner and life organization for high school/college students, since our lives aren't quite as complex as everyone else's with bills and as many deadlines. I literally cannot get my head around this.
Well you can't get your head around this well there is a whole community of people, who have more than one planner, and they are housewife and some of them have home-based business etc.
I really don't understand the point of more than one planner. At all. If the planner was actually good, couldn't *everything* be kept in it? I guess I believe more in simplicity. Maybe writing in planners is like a hobby for some people? But I don't get it..
Personally I like having the two, because I can plan out my daily to-dos while looking at my posting planner side by side. I think it comes down to a matter of personal preference.
I recently narrowed my planner/binder workbooks down to 3 just yesterday!! I begin my year on my birthday (which is in March :) ) And I completely get it. I am a mom, and I have survived cancer though it has left me chronically ill, and I have a handcrafts business, and lastly I have a poetry blog and a book (or several) in process. NOT keeping those PROJECT ACTIVITIES (not hobbies) in their own space would be an eternal chaotic mess. It would be like a student keeping recipes in their backpack, and like putting jewelry tools in the diaper bag, and I can come up with a zillion metaphors, lol. Its a NECESSARY and a sanity saving one at that. ON THE OTHER HAND, and to agree with you completely, YES it is also an enjoyable activity, planning and decorating planner pages etc......at the end or at the beginning of all those tasks, and responsibilities, engaging in creative work releases DOPAMINE (a positive chemical in the brain) and not only does it help anti-stress but for me personally having trouble with memory due to surgeries etc... it helps me better remember both what I am planning as well as what I have already done, and accomplish. I remember things better visually and I have photographic memory so I can't imagine any other way. I have loved office supplies since I was a child, and Hello Kitty stores, my father is a dentist and playing office in his office was my favorite thing to do, Now I play office in my office :D (Sorry about the long reply, can you tell I am a writer :D hehehe
Have you tried decorating your weekly pages? It looks cute, but I tried it for one week and it wasn't my style! I much prefer just color coding. Thanks for the post!
