In 2012 the team of The Watermen Project embarked on an expedition to Isla de Guadalupe, Mexico. For shark scientist Dr. Mauricio Hoyos, William Winram and Fred Buyle placed 11 acoustic tags on Great White Sharks in order to further study their migratory behavior. The goal of these studies is to understand long-term movements of Carcharodon carcharias to propose science-based conservation and management plans.

This video just proves that Great Whites are NOT the indiscriminate "man-eating" monsters they are so often portrayed as!!! These guys are doing a great job to protect these magnificent creatures. If I were trained in how to "read and interpret shark behaviour and I was a free-diver I'd totally love to do this!
Thank you for the positive feedback! Really appreciate it.
Hopefully one day people will appreciate sharks and have a more positive view of these creatures. Amazing video!
Un gran trabajo.
Wow. I believe I've just witnessed my dream job. Amazing work guys. The video footage was incredible.
Beautiful Video! Exelect Job! And I love the music that had been selected!.
I hope that one day I could join a proyect of this size as marine biology!
I Saw a 12' white shark while spearfishing about 12 miles off san diego, one of the most magical and awe Inspiring things I've ever seen or experienced, she cruised just beneath me and came by for a look then swam away back down into deep water
Great work. Amazing visibility. Maybe different choice of music? I'de like to see where the research gets published. Keep us posted.
Hi Cedrick, thanks for your comment. If you go to the website, check out the 'expedition reports' section. All info about scientific results will be updated there.
Nice video, enjoyed the music and editing.
good job guys ...well done ...good luck 👊
Awesome!!

WOW! great job guys! i love sharks although i am scared of the water(sea/ocean) because they might get a chunk of me :) but I see sharks as a very magnificent creature. Kudos to you The Watermen Project! keep it up! more power!!! BTW what is the title of the song used?
Awsome vid ;)
Amazing job! Great team! Great people! It is so much better than hooking those poor creatures and damaging them badly only to tag.
Have best of luck, guys!
Here is an apex predator. I have an idea lets poke it with a big sharp stick .... But seriously, excellent work guys.

What are you views on free diving with great whites. Do you feel in danger when your tagging ?
Wow
OK, how do I sign up for this?
This is awesome! Good job dudes, most people would shit their pants in the water with those sharks.
2019 April?
But why are they shooting at it with a speargun??
+princezog Traditionally tags are being placed using a hook and line. The shark is being fought to the boat and then the tag is surgically implanted or drilled to the fin. This requires a lot of manpower, time and funding and also poses some health risks for the animal. We are using a system we have modified and further developed that allows us to place the tags externally, by anchoring a small dart into the thick muscle tissue below the dorsal fin. The advantage is that we can tag many more animals, it requires a lot less funding, so we can help scientists in remote locations and poor countries, and also it only takes a few seconds, which is healthier for the shark.
