    10 Fashion Mistakes That Are Ageing You - How To Style
    I’m not one to highlight fashion mistakes because I really do believe that fashion should be fun and of course it’s a great way to truly express who we are. But there are some common mistakes that will always make us look older than we actually are. I’ve just turned 52 and while I don’t want to look like I’m in my 30s - I also don’t want to look too mature either. I suppose you could say I just want to look like like a more youthful version of a 52-year-old - without looking young and silly - if that makes sense.
    So if you want to overhaul your style for the better and stay looking youthful then this video is for you.
    By the way I'd love to hear what fashion faux pas make us look older in the comments below.
    Thanks for watching.

      ingrid Hi Ingrid. I do wear ripped jeans. I wear them with a classic top and point toe shoes in summer and ankle boots in winter. It’s about not wearing too many trends at the same time and not showing too much skin. And in the end it’s about what makes me happy, not anyone else. Love to you.

    I am 51 and I agree that being too trendy makes a person seem like they are trying hard to be young, but being stuck in the ‘80’s or ‘90’s, especially when it comes to hairstyles, is even worse!

I still have a lady that no matter how much I try to show her how great she looks with her hair styled naturally, she still leaves my chair and styles her hair like she did in the 80s.

      I’m 71..... it’s genetic but I can pass for 51 and keeping in shape, nice hair, “less is more” makeup and I can almost get away with anything..... however LOOK AT PICS of oneself now and then and if you are honest with yourself - you will cringe at how badly you look sometimes!!!! Self included!!!! I travel a lot and simple classy (even jeans with holes) can look great with classic pumps, etc! Just wearing “what you want” does NOT do much for your self image if it makes other cringe! I like being admired for the way I dress.... not laughed at Just my HUmble Opinion!!!!

    I will turn 54 this year and I have no problem wearing what is in style. I do see lots of women my age and a little older who got stuck in the 90s and it does age a person so bad. I won't wear a crop top, mini skirt, or very short shorts but if I really like a style I will try to add it in somewhere. No one ever mentions this but I think staying fit is another way to staying style, or age gracefully 💜💜💜

    I whish the title of this video was: How to look modern at any age, because the only thing that really ages us is time and there is nothing wrong with that. The most precious thing we get with age is that we can finally stop obsessing about our looks, stop trying to look younger (or not looking older), relax about who we really are, feel comfortable in our body (and our clothes) and concentrate to other important things in our lives.

    I wear a lot less make up now that I'm in my late 50's. I wear foundation medium coverage and dewey, but only very neutral/natural shadow only to cover light veins on my lids, a sweep of blush....a tiny bit of highlight on cupids and here and there. I've always dressed a bit bohemian/hippy even as a teen. Yet, I mix it up and have a lot of classic timeless pieces as well as a few age appropriate on trend items which are not at all hippy or bohemian.
    Shorts are always to just above my knee. I think maxi dresses look lovely on those that are over 5'8" or taller.
    I agree regarding not pigeon holing ourselves! Your video was appreciated and I enjoyed it!

      Fashion is aspirational. Take the details that work for you, your personality, and your body type and incorporate them into a style that’s uniquely yours. I’m only 4”11’ and I don’t expect to see women my size represented in fashion photos - that’s OK. I can still take ideas and fly with them.

I have been working over the past year to make some changes and expand my color palette (especially since my good friend threatened to come over and burn all my black clothing!!!) My advice: Taking care of your body (try to stay fit and lean) and hair (regular visits to the hairdresser, not getting stuck in an old style and trying to take care of the hair and also continue to style it at home) as well as good skin care are important. Also avoid using too much makeup but I do recommend to continue to make an effort to look your best by using at least some makeup products (e.g. lightly fill in eyebrows to frame the face, use some mascara, some local covering of strong pigmentation or scars and a little blush).

    I’m 53 and I’m having so much fun with fashion again. It’s a perfect way for me to express myself. I definitely don’t want to wear anything that’s going to age me but that’s just my opinion, at the end of the day I wear what makes me feel good. How I dress really depends on my mood when I wake up and the weather. Taking care of myself and looking good makes me feel great even when I feel like crap at times. Great video, I loved it! Good advice about the fanny packs. Dressing can be challenging for me because of a bulge on my side that I developed after my liver resection. I came up with the idea of wearing lots of different fanny packs to hide it. It gets very challenging with anything that’s fitted and that shows my waistline. I’m passionate about fashion so much and I’m always having to come up with ideas to conceal my arm and bulges from surgeries. Fashion is a great way to express yourselves ladies, have fun with it. Sending positive vibes to all the woman around the world. Remember, we are all beautiful!!! 🙌🏽✌🏼☝️🙏🏿💕

    I don't like leaving negative comments, but I feel the examples shown are now any styles I would want to copy, and some are a little ridiculous in my opinion. I like to stick to classy, well fitting flattering styles. I would never leave the house wearing super wide black pants with laces up the sides with ridiculous platform wedge shoes and oversize circle sunglasses. Just my humble opinion. So as long as I feel comfortable and feel stylish in what adorn my body. Leoni, you are my favourite style guru. Thank you. I always enjoy your guidance. There seems to be a lot of scope to have more images of older women illustrating your suggestions. Would love to see/find some. Even on Pinterest it’s limited. I really enjoyed the first still of the older women although the rest were depicted on younger women. I’m almost 58 and still very young at heart and mind and in looks. I wear whatever feels good and is current. The same as a younger person in her 30s or 40s but in my own unique way. It carries through well. Thank you again. Keep them coming. And wishing you a very happy birthday! X

    Dear Leonie: Thanks for your advice. As usual you nailed it. Wearing classy styles mixed with some trendy ones works well, at least for me. And I agree with you that black can be unflattering to older women. I see a lot wearing too much black and instead of looking fashionable they look older and as if ready to attend a funeral.

    Happy Birthday! You look fantastic! I will be 65 this summer, and though I look older, I am pretty sure I've never looked better! Super helpful color tip I learned somewhere online: take a color you are considering, and with pulled back hair and minimal makeup, drape your face. Close your eyes for a few seconds and open them and look at your face in the drape. If you see/notice your face FIRST, the color is good. If you see the COLOR FIRST, then it's going to steal your thunder! So much easier and cheaper than all the color consults! And you can do it in real time, while shopping. I see you follow the Accidental Icon, but who else do you follow? Fashionistas "of a certain age"? Cheers!

    I am a red headed New Yorker, a month short of 65. As I was walking through Times Square today, a rapper approached me and asked me where I was from. That's part of his sales pitch. I told him I was a local. He said "I knew you were a New Yorker. I like your look. You gangsta!". The gangsta part cracked me up. I had to go look it up to make sure it was a compliment. It was. (Terracotta moto jacket. Skinny-ish jeans. Tan backpack. Grey newsboy cap. Beige ankle boots. Gangsta. ;-) )

    I am 37 years old but I look better in the more classy styles designed for mid twenties to late twenties. Probably because I look a lot younger then I am because of great skin and short height. I couldn't believe it when some guy said women over thirty are over the hill and should cover up from the knees to the collarbone. He was shocked when he found out my age. He thought I was 25 ha ha. Explains why a younger guy was hitting on me. When it comes down to it age is only a number. Look at a lot of Asian women. They tend age slower then most people because of a combination of genes and good lifestyles.

    • @endeavouringit
      @endeavouringit 5 років тому

      Asian women have better/different skin, that's the big difference, their skin is thicker usually and often darker

    • @laurels52
      @laurels52 5 років тому

      Asian women wear sunscreen religiously and don't tan. That is the difference. Look at black women - no wrinkles. The sun/tanning is your #1 ager by far.

    I like a just below the knee skirt. A bias cut skirt with zero pleats looks chic and helps to hide lumps and bumps.
    I would add gathered skirts to this list

    Your make up is very nice done! The color choice is very good! I am petite and i wear maxi skirt, dress.. there is a way. V shape neck , long necklace ... ...and good fit! Go to a good dressmaker to make the necessary alternations.. that is always a good thing to do...

    I've seen some very trendy 60 year olds at work and they look absolutely amazing. They look trendy but not silly, probably because they don't try to hide their age and they act age appropriately. While they wear trendy clothing "meant for younger ppl". And I really admire them for that.

    Ahhhh thank you for the extra perk of confidence. I love the video and on most cases I pretty much already follow what you spoke on. Furthermore, II must say I must find some of those jewelry accessories shown in the video, love them. My issue when shopping is I look about 15yrs younger than my real age and I do have a hard time finding clothing so I spend most times mix/matching outfits without going overboard. However it's a job due to many women sections the clothes look like my mothers though my age supposed to suit that area, I don't get why it can't be easier finding clothing for women later in life without it breaking your purse. Again loved the video.

    True 💕. The best way to stay current and up-to-date is to change wardrobe to suit current trends (but not too trendy). I’m same age as u and I love to mix-up my wardrobe. I actually look much younger than my years so I can get away with many styles 🤗.

    I think one of the "dated" looks of right now, are the trend to giant dark eyebrows. They are the only thing I see when watching this lady's video. Very Groucho Marx of yester year. I know everyone loves them - I am probably the only one that finds them funny.

    • @debjax9241
      @debjax9241 5 років тому +2

      Seaside Mom, no you are not the only one! I have naturally thick eyebrows and I do prefer to keep them thick as opposed to ridiculously thin. The difference is I don't "draw" my eyebrows on!! I do try to keep them neatly groomed, however! Drawn on eyebrows look funny whether thick or thin because they're not natural. Would only draw them on if my natural eyebrows were lost due to medical condition/treatment.

    • @seaside2001
      @seaside2001 5 років тому

      It was Brooke Shields that made big brows popular back in the day, wasn't it? No plucking or shaping. I have started to do some shaping recently to avoid the current trend. @@debjax9241

    Here's My thoughts on current fashion trends...Been there, done that. The so called Dad shoe, the Checkered Van's, the florescent colors, the shoulder pads & it makes me laugh that these young girls are "raving" about THEIR Mom jeans, because, this Mom, isn't wearing the Mom Jean's anymore!!! Sure, I want to look cute & classy, but I'm all about being Comfortable!😉

    interesting video - I'm 67 and prefer to wear what feels most comfortable. Now that I've discovered capsule wardrobes, I've started wearing MORE black. I like the idea of a 'uniform' because I don't want to have to think about my outfits when I go out. I meticulously planned my weekly outfits for decades when I worked in IT Security. Now I just want to relax and enjoy retirement. I was a clothes horse when I worked full-time and am now purging my business clothes closets. I did find the tip on proportions helpful...
