    When I was a very unhappy teenager I used to go out in the early morning and snuggle into a particular beech tree. Very comforting.

    I love beech trees, they’re my favourite..however my partner, who is a tree surgeon calls them the “widow maker”’ as they have the ability to look perfectly healthy but can drop the most enormous branches without warning…not a great one to camp underneath. Still love their beauty though 💕

    Thank you so much--I just discovered you, I have a beech tree growing in my backyard (Plattsburgh, NY) and as far as I know, it is the only one in my neighborhood. Its girth 3.657 meetrs!! Calculating its age I found it was 350 years old--but that's hard to believe. I live on what was formerly a US airforce base and am amazed that the tree (whatever its actual age) was preserved when building base housing. I was especially pleased to find out that the leaves are edible in early spring and that the nuts are also edible. I wish you luck in all of your edeavors.

    Thanks for the knowledge and more. May I suggest a small clip mic? It's hard to hear your voice at times because your turning away from the camera and/or far, and you have a soft voice. I turn my cell fully up but still need CC. Same with turning up the TV but not too much so that the commercials and the theme song don't blast.

    When you talked about the flowers and that both male and female flowers grow on the same tree that is common but did you know the key word for that is "monoecious" and then you have trees that are "doecious" which means that male and female flowers are found on separate trees and some trees are "hermaphrodite" meaning that both male and female reproductive organs are found in the same tree.

  • @mugwamp1057
    @mugwamp1057 Рік тому +1

    Very nice but a bit anthropocentric. No consideration at all as to how the beech tree germinates. Do the nuts open on the branch? Do the seeds need to be eaten by rodents and birds in order to reproduce in their droppings? The huge carpet of nuts found under the tree is presumably not intended to reproduce as it gets the same spring smothering of late-dropping leaves that is characteristic of beech.

    Oh dear. You must invest in a decent microphone. Your videos are such a joy to watch but the sound quality lets you down. If you have friends who blog, ask them which microphone they use for outdoor videos. Maybe get a Go-Pro?

    • @homeiswhereourheartis
      @homeiswhereourheartis  3 роки тому

      It's a confusing thing we're trying figure out. Some devices we're loud and clear others quite. This is our 3rd new microphone that cost £70! 😱 It's a famous microphone too so might be an issue with our editing software.
      We'll have to keep brainstorming why it is 🙂
