I think it is better to draw a center line on manikin so it will be easy to know to correct place before applying appliqué

I'm a beginner in sewing, and I was given as a gift, a mannequin, but I really need a dress form. Does it matter the size of the dress form or would it be beneficial to purchase an adjustable one?
