Good video, and I’m glad to see others are thinking about this. I was SOOO excited when Apple turned on phone calling for iPad. I’ve been wanting to get away from having a phone and separate larger screen (that’s bigger than the Max series of iPhones), and they’ve taken one step closer to that ideal. I’ve been doing a similar experiment for about a month, where I leave my iPhone 11 at home while I carry my iPad Mini 6 with cellular, Apple Watch 6 with cellular, and EarPods Pro. I've found that for me, having the larger screen size with me all the time is a definite bonus. To carry it around, I use a small crossbody bag that fits the Mini perfectly in an external pocket so it’s easy to pull out when needed. When I have to use my slim backpack to carry my office laptop (which I have to do twice per week to be in-office), I still use the bag instead of transferring stuff from the bag into the backpack. If I’m running into the store to get something real quick, I’ll leave the iPad in the car, knowing that I have my wallet and my watch for payment and for a cellphone with EarPods if needed. If I’m doing major shopping, the crossbody and Mini come with me. Hardware-wise, I’m not a professional camera type person and I find that the quality of the Mini 6 camera is good enough for me. Size-wise, it’s been interesting how I’ve gotten used to the larger size and have no trouble using it. App-wise, I send and receive SMS messages to and from both Android and iOS people so I’m not sure what the comments of “no SMS texting” are about. (You have to set it up on the iPhone, so maybe people don’t know that?) I use FaceTime audio to call people (using the EarPods and not holding the iPad to my head) and if they have an Apple device, we can FaceTime video if they want. Of all the apps I’ve used, I’ve found that there are only two that don’t work so far: Apple CarPlay (which is a definite bummer) and the McDonald’s app (though the Burger King app works fine so I can scratch that occasional junk food itch). Occasionally I’ve picked up the iPhone and tried using it, but going back to that smaller screen is a real drag for me. I’m sticking with the iPad and my experiment for now.
@@jerome5969 In settings on your iPhone, select Messages. Make sure your iMessage is turned on, and right below that is an option saying Send and Receive. Open that, and make sure the options at the top have checkmarks in front of them. For the options at the bottom, I left my cell phone as the only one selected with a checkmark. Exit out back to Messages and scroll down a little bit. You’ll see an option for Text Message Forwarding. Open that, and you should see all of the devices on your account that can receive text messages. Turn them on for whichever device(s) you want to receive messages. Close the Settings app. For good measure, restart your iPhone, and the devices that will be receiving messages so that they can read the new settings from the server. When I send messages to Android-using friends, the messages auto-convert to SMS, while maintaining iMessage capability for my iOS device friends.
@@katyjones8268 Interestingly enough, in the past I have had to leave my iPhone turned on while it was at home since I never carry it with me anymore. Your question intrigued me, so I did a little experiment. I turned off the iPhone, and now only have an iPad running. I did a test text from my work iPhone to my iPad Mini, and it went through successfully. (If I remember correctly, it used to be the iPhone would relay messages to the iPads. I guess they have taken another step forward and removed the iPhone from the connection chain.) I then tried a phone call from my work iPhone to my to my phone number. The call went through fine! Even more surprisingly, it came through my car Bluetooth connection (I’m testing in a parking lot far from my home). This is not to say that you don’t still need an iPhone somewhere along the way to help with the initial configuration of the iPad. I remember on the iPhone I had to set up the text forwarding before it would appear on my iPad. Perhaps, as time goes on, the iPad will become more standalone. Also, I think I should find someone with an Android and have them try to call and text me to see if it still works. It just gets better and better, doesn’t it!?
This video really has me thinking about what I actually use my phone for that I couldn’t use an iPad and Apple Watch , like my phone bill would drop , still get my media content , only thing I would miss would be the convenience of the camera

I'm surprised there isn't a way to use a dialer app. Not sure if you have done the month challenge yet but one thing I would love to see/know is how well all of this works with just the iPad and the apple watch. I know you covered this a little bit but I would love to see you cover this in more detail - what gaps does the watch fill in that the iPad does do and visa versa. Things like NFC, payments, rewards cards etc? Similarly, what gaps would there be with just the LTE watch and a non LTE ipad? Great Video though!
Best video I have seen so far trying to use an iPad mini as a phone! Great real world uses and explanations. Also very thought out by apple on its limits so you can’t only have the iPad.
To be honest I used my iPad mini to take photos while traveling a few years ago. It lasted 5 years before I got an iPhone. My dad has poor sight and poor hearing, he has a phone which he uses for text and WhatsApp only (his hearing doesn’t allow voice calls and other stuff is too small to see) - would an iPad mini be a good replacement for his phone to help his sight knowing that he can’t use voice calls anyway and he’s too old for things like Apple Pay?

It looks like if anyone does not need to use RFID chip and don't care about taking pictures all time can use an iPad as an all in one device. It would work out for me because I don't need those two.
Bro there’s no way I’d ever take an iPad out in an NYC subway these days. Not sure why you would even pretend to be an average consumer after pulling something like that.
@@ShervinShares it's also free "if you use it once a month" if not you'll need to pay 6 dollars a year or risk losing your phone number. It also does video calls and I use it for 2 factor authentication.
Rather expensive and fails the objective? You need Apple Watch and iPad mini with contracts along side regular phone contract. You still use device which does pretty much everything iPhone does minus good cameras? Bigger screen sure but isn’t it just easier to carry bigger iPad if you need to work or even laptop?
Yes and the bigger devices creates a physical friction point to using the device. The whole goal was using the device with intention. it’s very easy to use iPhone to mindlessly scroll, but with an iPad it’s a bit hard because of the larger form factor. So the question was… can I reduce my social media & phone addiction by carrying a larger/ harder to use device?
Now that the Apple Watch Ultra is Out, you should do a video where you try to just use the Ultra and Mini to make it through a day without your iPhone for us lol

This was one the things that chapped me about iPad Cellular. The name is misleading. It leads you to think it can work just like an iPhone. When it's real an iPad plus Data...Which basically means if you can't get a WiFi connection. You can use the Data Sim card. Unless you have your iPhone some place close. "Then it works as a Phone"
I almost sent mine back Just because of that. As what use is paying the extra cost. As You can pair an iPhone with WiFi iPad and it works the same...
@@WizzRacing really good to know. Thank you
I just want to tell you that you need to keep going your work !! I knew you through the Apple Watch video and this is really good content
Thank you!!! What video do you want to see next?!
@@ShervinShares since you commented back to me, I’m thinking what could be the next video, I don’t know you enough tho but if I have an idea, I’ll comment on your next video for sure !
This is some high quality content! Currently investing at 6k followers, hoping to see you reach 1 million 👍
Thank you!!! I’m hoping you’re right. 1 milli baby
Waiiit... The phone he locked away was a 13 (look at the cameras while it's in the box) but his actual phone is a 13 Pro... He didn't really lock his main phone away... 😓
😱😱😱
I wish Apple would add the Watch App to the iPad. Or have a DEX mode of iPhone. Separating things is good for sales but it takes away from innovation.
Haha ! You got me with the " Hey Siri, teleport to Chipotle..." lol Very interesting video, would be a no go for me though, didn't realize it didn't have legit Apple pay, or full apple watch capabilities. Probably would work for many people though. Peace bro !
Yea leaving iPhone at home and using Apple Watch Exclusively is the best workaround it seems
What backpack are you using. Look rather good
Peak Design!
Oh damn, what the reason to have sim but cannot call or text
You seriously need more followers
I tryed to PAIR my Apple Watch with a iOS 6 and it’s out of date due to old phone
this video is chill
you’re chill bro
Nice video man! Just discovered your channel and I love it !
If I have my iPhone on, and at home, can I FaceTime with it? Also it’s lame that iPad won’t just mirror sms messages in imessage like why not. Love these vids btw new huge fan of yours!
yes if you're on WiFi or Cellular - you can use FaceTime. iPhone doesn't need to be one.
The SMS thing isn't great, it can forward. THANK YOU!!
Umm… the thing is that 256GB iPad mini in WiFi+Cellular modification costs more or less as much as iPhone. So it’s absolutely pointless to use iPad Mini instead of iPhone.
Could just get a folding phone. Alas Apple won't make one.
Can you do an updated “day with an Apple Watch only” video ?
I did one in December! I have these two video so far. Do you want another? I love making them:

It looks like if anyone does not need to use RFID chip and don't care about taking pictures all time can use an iPad as an all in one device. It would work out for me because I don't need those two.

@@ShervinShares I absolutely love your vidoes and can’t wait for more I’m excited for more
Bro there’s no way I’d ever take an iPad out in an NYC subway these days. Not sure why you would even pretend to be an average consumer after pulling something like that.
Amazing video man! It was like a breath of fresh air on UA-cam ;)
Thank you!!! Send it to a friend 😉. What other types of videos do you want to see?
Ha! 🐬 Let´s go Shervin 😄
I am an expat so I prefer TextNow over Googles calling service because Google Voice will not work outside of America but TextNow will. I 👍 your video.
Interesting! Do you have to pay for TextNow? GVoice is free. I’ll check it out!
@@ShervinShares it's also free "if you use it once a month" if not you'll need to pay 6 dollars a year or risk losing your phone number. It also does video calls and I use it for 2 factor authentication.
Love the content. I wish your channel grows quick for you to get the opportunity to create more great content.
Oh and 🐬🐬
THANK YOU!!! what other videos do you want to see?!

If Apple watch had Apple Watch Ultra compatibility I would use it as my main device.
i have a macbook, iphone, ipad pro…seem’s like with a watch I could ditch the phone…. Are any of you enjoying ditching your phone for the Apple watch?
I appreciate this video
Great editing, handsome fella, and a fun content idea! The future looks hopeful my friend 😸
Do 30 days of iPad for sure!
Thank you so much 😁
Nice high quality video
5:37 Ok you went to far there.
omg ooops!! haha finally someone noticed
@@ShervinShares 😂
Nothings weird in Washington square park except you asking if it’s weird.
To be less cost more money
The biggest problem is that it cannot receive phone call and texting! It could've been a perfect device, what a shame
yea... but who does phone calls anymore anyways?
That ipad with 256 gb costs 800 dollars.
What, where can I get that cool youtube shirt???
just need to go to a UA-cam conferece ;)
Love the vid❤️! But did anyone else see he was drinking prime
Yes I was 😉 🥤
They should seek to make the ipad mini more phine like so people can have a phablet
Now that the Apple Watch Ultra is Out, you should do a video where you try to just use the Ultra and Mini to make it through a day without your iPhone for us lol
I did one with just the Ultra! I can add the Mini into the mix too!
🐬🐬🐬🐬 do it. I want to switch to a mini
So much great work you put into this video you have a strong 💪 work ethic and you will be successful ⚡️⚡️👊❤️
Thank you thank you!! 💪
Great video!
Does having the Apple Watch make it easier to only use an iPad for you?
Great video, greetings from Mexico, new sub!
Ayyy welcome! Good to have you
