At abit over 60 I brought a ride on mower 2 reasons it is easier and quicker plus I got a trailer that carries approx 250kg of material over our 3 acres. Theres alot of mowing in the future love the vlogs
Thanks - the trailer idea is a good one too - we have loads of tree cuttings to haul around and take up to the barn when we trim trees (about 200!) from time to time. You have just pushed it slightly up my budget priority list!
Thanks a lot - the sit-on mower is an option for sure. They are quite pricey here though, and may be beyond our budget - possibly looking for a second-hand one later in the year.
Thanks! I'm presuming the name comes from the leaf shape. I've watched a few more videos about it - what a useful plant! I didn't know it is related to quinoa. I'll be stopping Phil from strimming it from now onwards (well maybe just a patch - it does go somewhat crazy)🌱🌿
Hola from Spain. Love watching your videos, such a lovely couple working so well together. Yes, hard work, but so rewarding. We are over 18 years into our adventure & much okder, but still finding things tough & challenging. Love the Gazebo, perfect spot for coffee or wine. Jane, your voice calms me, especially after another busy day in the Campo. Love to you both ♥️
That mower looks really heavy! Is it set with the cutting blades too low to the ground? That would contribute to the weight of pushing it around. You’re doing a great job. I love the close up of all that moss growing on the olive tree trunk. So beautiful. The infrastructure set up is going well.
No, the mower is just heavy! We had all sorts of fun getting it up ramps into the back of the car to return it. Thanks a lot for commenting on the progress, we are pleased how far we have come in a short time, and know the real work is still around the corner when we get the building projects underway. 🏡🌳🇵🇹😎
I am watching from New York State and as I sit here on a hot humid day watching you mow the grass and fill your trench in I can not get over the difference in equipment there is in the world. Around here the farmers would be using a tractor with a brush hog to mow the fields. I don't like you mower! It is too dangerous and physical to use. Farmers would also use a tractor to move the dirt and plow the dirt back into the hole. I guess what I am saying is to get a small tractor and attachment. You and your lovely wife will be much happier. It would save you a stiff back and blisters on the hands.
You are so right the mower is not ideal, but it was an experiment worth making. We are new here, and more established farmers have tractors - we are playing catch-up I’m afraid. We have paid a contractor to do the original trench digging with a big machine (a few episodes ago) and they will return to do the main fill-in. We just had to do the gravel around the pipe to be sure it was ok. Everything else will be done by proper big machines. At our age we know we can’t do everything like a 25-year-old, but it doesn’t stop me trying occasionally.
I agree, both Portugal It Is and Portugal Project have invested in small tractors with trays and mowing blades and they are hugely helpful. Neither were new on purchase.
I’m watching from Australia and really enjoying your journey on the land and watching the changes you are making. The mower ( slasher we call them here☺️) is brilliant and cuts a wide distance compared to a regular mower. We’ve had one in the past and the Honda brand is strong and reliable. Wide mowers can get places tractors can’t and it’s good exercise in the cool parts of the day. Well done and thanks for sharing.
So good to see neighbors helping. Makes a difference, doesn't it? North Carolina USA. 😊❤
It would have taken SOOOO much longer without them. We're truly grateful💪
From Nederland ❤

That’s going to wear you out! How about a small rider or a tractor if you could use it for other things.
Thats a great idea - have to balance the cost and budget as they are quite expensive here - may have to look for a used on later in the year.
hi guys,we bought a sit on mower, your doing a great job, keep up the good work, good luck.

4:40 This plant has been used as food for centuries and in our country goose foot is called Chenopodium in literature.

Thank you so much! I hope we'll still have the energy to be keeping on top of everything in 18 years time, but we're loving the adventure so far
Thanks for the cameos! Miss u guys xxx😊
And you too. Take care and we'll catch up again soon.

A no from me to the mower!
That thing is not adequate!
Agreed, too heavy and too hard to control on rough ground. Other options are under review!

You'll get by..with a little help from your friends😅
A project of this size definitely needs a community, and we've been lucky to meet so many lovely people round here😀
