Notching My Datsun 521 Minitruck Project - with Trick'd Toys

This 1971 Datsun 521 came into my life last year, and aside from getting it running and converting the front brakes to discs, it's mostly just been sitting out back of the shop waiting for some love.
Well, today we're taking it down to see Garrett at Trick'd Toys, and he's going to install a custom frame notch so we can start the process of putting this mini down on the ground where it belongs!
Follow along as we cover the design process, from measuring and making paper templates to cutting on a CNC plasma table, and finally welding everything into place.

@Twisted Images I can't wait to see it. Hopefully it makes it in time for the lmc show :). Let me know if you need an extra pair of hands. I am in a slight pause waiting on some parts to get going any further on the tracker right now.
@@anthoneyurtz5689 will do! Most of what I have to do is one-man stuff- measuring and figuring out what’ll work as I go. But when it comes time to put the bed on I’ll holler for sure!
Why do this? I don't understand.
@@danbasta3677 to gain clearance to lower the truck so the axle doesn't hit the frame.
What size wheels and tires are on the truck?
175/70-14 on stock wheels

@@kentuckyyankeeWhare ya been? I'm looking forward to seeing much more of what you are doing with your 520 series Datsun/Nissan trucks you have. I much prefer the 521 series Datsun/Nissan trucks much better though, however the 520's are nice to.

What exactly is the purpose of this?
I’ll be making a follow-up video soon that covers the air ride installation. The frame notch allows more clearance for the axle to travel so the truck can sit on the ground when the air is let out.
Why ruin it? Why? It looks perfect just the way it was.
@@danbasta3677 I'm leaving the exterior just as it is, but I like my cars low. Fortunately, there's still a ton of these trucks out there, so you can still get one for yourself and leave it stock if that's your thing!
