I was making some pen pots recently which involved cutting out accurate leather circles and I realised that I've never talked about how to do this in any of my videos. So in case it is of help here is a quick overview showing a variety of tools and tips for cutting small to large circles. I will have some longer videos coming out over the next few weeks, stay safe everyone!
Another excellent video sir! I just wanted to add an oldschool trick for anyone... If all you have is a circle cutter that uses a point to center it, you can take a small piece of scrap leather and double stick tape it to the piece you're cutting and put the point in that scrap piece. When you're done, the double stick tape will release the scrap piece from your circle and you will have no mark on your leather circle. The scrap piece will have the mark instead. I hope this helps if anyone runs into this problem.
Thanks Ian. Love our videos. I watched your knife sheath video about a year ago and have been addicted to making leather goods ever since; sheaths, holsters, belts, wallets, bags etc. Pleas keep the awesome videos coming!!! They’re a a lifeline!!
Hi Ian. You can use that black button integrated on Olfa plastic cover to avoid pinching the leather. It works as pad on other model and I use it for that. It is Japanese, they think that things...
yes you can that's true, I have used it but tend to use the other one to avoid marks. I should have mentioned it in the video though, never mind there's always something I forget!
Thank you for making this video! I plan on getting the Olfa soon. I appreciate you being part of the leather community and helping all of us learn from each other. Keep up the great work!
Ian, if you unscrew and remove the non-slip 'button' on the NT cutter tool, you'll be able to screw the brass sleeve up to reveal a central pin similar to the olfa cutter.
Enjoyable Ian... you're a skilled man at this and its a real inspiration just watching you... great stuff. I'm sure your upcoming vids will be of some really cool products. Hmmm just smashed my piggy bank on another buy...AAAAuuuuuggghhh I know your going to tempt me with 'stuff ' .... Best wishes everyone... be as happy as you can... UgZ LeZc @@
You could try anchoring a string with a knife at the end I’ve done that before. Be careful with the middle of your circle that it’s anchored into depending on your finished idea.

I appreciate your videos, this one was timely for me.

Ian, many of the NT cutters do have a center pin. You can find it by unscrewing the bottom pad.
so it does! I'd never noticed that before as it was all the way up inside the little brass tube
With the olfa style I cut from the flesh side to eliminate that pin prick
And thanks for the new content. We've missed you
Lol I just seen your comment on just that.
Thank you for sharing☺️☺️☺️
Good advice, thanks!
Hello ! I want to thank you for your video lessons and waiting for new ones)))
Great video. I've seen you. Use a metal arch circular jig out of metal. Did not see on your tool list on website. Do you have info on where sold?

Stay safe mate,,,,
All the best,,,
Would like some advice on cutting large diameter circles about 12 inches...any suggestions?
same techniques as shown just get a cutter that goes up to that diameter, there are larger ones than shown here
You could try anchoring a string with a knife at the end
I’ve done that before. Be careful with the middle of your circle that it’s anchored into depending on your finished idea.
The Olfa has a center pad in the blade cover mate.
Yes I forgot to mention it
I use my Cricut Maker to cut circles.
They can work for thin leather but are not designed for thick leather as in the examples shown. It’s a good solution if you needed lots though!
Olfa has another circle cutter, the heavier duty CMP-2
there are quite a few different ones out there, I only have those two available to show though
Super où trouver ces outils svp
Merci
