I'm currently working on a livery for the A2A Comanche and I'm using Gimp not PS. When I open the standard comp file that's comming with the aircraftt none of the channels are black and white colour. Instead the blue channel is actually blue the red one red and the green one green. I tried painting over them but I can only paint in the colour the channel is named after, blue in blue red in red etc. Am I missing something? I also couldn't find anything online. I hope somebody can help me altough im not using PS.
Thanks for the info on this. Unfortunately have CS5 so I can't open those files, but am well adept enough to see what you were doing and understand the explanation I just created my own COMP file and was able to save it with the maps. GGs man thanks again for the good explanations.
Greetings, thanks for that nice video. I've got a question. I use the NVIDIA DDS plugin for photoshop, and i would like to know what option to use when loading the DDS in your example ? I got three choices : "Load alpha as channel instead of transparency", "Load Mipmaps", and "Flip vertically". Which one are the one to choose, unless no need of any ? Thanks a lot
For whatever reason, my .comp files will not display correctly in Photoshop. Every channel just shows as sold Black. Other .dds files show up fine though. Any ideas?

When I click on my colors with tolerance at 5 the entire file gets selected. Went as high as 77 and still doesn't exclude the rest of the file. UPdated: Figured it out. The background layer needs to be changed. I noticed yours read Mig0. Skipped that in video but thanks, for a great tutorial!!!
I getting into repainting for msfs2020 I used to paint for fsx..and I use PS and the PMDG paintkit could this same procedure be used on the PMDG paintkit for metal textures..also how do you add colors to the metal textures ?
@@ImpulseSimulations I also was looking for that answer. I am assuming just skip the whole magic wand tool part? I didn't hear any mention of gloss fuselage in the video but I'm an old fart.
Nice video. I was trying to create my own livery but as a beginer it look complicated for me. Is there anyone who can create a livery with my travel agency logo?
Thanks for this I am going to give it a try. Strange that GIMP will open DDS files, but for some reason all the COMP ones won't open for me, so while it sounds like I can create them, I can't see the original for a particular plane. Curious to know what the NORM files are. Initially I thought those might be something to due with specular/reflectivity, but I guess not.
Normal maps are used for Reliefs and Divets in the surfaces. think rivet heads or slight dents. Simple lighting tricks based on texture so you can "add detail" without adding more polygons. With PBR workflows im positive it still applies but theres more color channels for different parts of the rendering. Hope this helped a bit :>

Glad I could help!
Really useful, thanks! Was struggling to work out before i checked the layout json file and added the comp file
no problems
Do you know what the Red channel is for?
love yo homie, nice vid!
thanks man!
Where can i find the Airframe?
Where I get the information date and size to layout.json?
That stuff is no longer needed
@@ImpulseSimulations But its the same to Fenix and PMDG aircrafts? I just need to declare there the files without the date/size info?
@@PedroHenriqueGS if you use MSFS Layout generator from Github it all should work fine

check that all layers in channels are turned on
What if the Repaint your doing, doesn't have _comp files? How would you go about this?
the comp files should be available from each aircrafts default texture location. :)

hi legion, u worked on croatia airlines ? or coming in pack v8 ?
I have not myself, but it may be in progress.
When I use the magic wand set at 3 my whole image lights up like a Christmas tree. That's my biggest hurdle.
