Thanks appreciate that. I was just watching one of your videos on your Tacoma and keeping it safe from thieves. I learned something new . Hope all is well and the black flies aren’t getting ya yet
That tow bar accessory for the Lewis winch is a winner. I'll bet it will work great on the back of the tractor. With the weight of that, you'll be able to winch out some good sized logs or several at a time.
A pointer for the Spencer tape. Get a carabiner and loop your belt through it then attach the tape clip to the carabiner. It will save belt loops from ripping out with the weight of the tape.
Hey buddy how are ya? Wow that looks great I gotta get me one of those for sure. So I’m looking at the growing pile of wood and wondering what your gonna build? Quit a few 4x4 so look like it’s gonna be big hehehe. Thanks for all ya do.. God bless you and yours
@@sawingwithsandy you will like those hooks. Looks like the same type as I have been using. Btw I sent an email to you the other day at the gmail address you use to put in your video description
I’ve seen them but haven’t really looked into it too much as I have a small utility trailer infuse for that sometimes. I normally just try to skid logs when there’s snow in the ground to avoid the mud
I have a Husqvarna 395xp (3rd generation...95cc engine) but the Lewis winch website only shows compatibility up to about the 372xp saws. But i guess if i'm using my husqy for cutting, i'll need another saw anyway for running the winch to pull logs.
Can you send me a link since I can’t find it to that steel cone on your cable and the auto release pulley please. I bought one a while ago and I just wanna buy another one.
Hey Brother. I’m a very satisfied subscriber. Question. How bad is dirt on your blade when cutting? Or is it the stores in the soil ? Just curious. Thank You. Craig. Pa.
How do you pivot the winch on the receiver extension arm under a load. Been pulling logs sixty to hundred feet from the winch. Been struggling with keeping the cable even on the drum. Got any advice.
Question/concern for this setup. I recently bought a Lewis winch which I just attached to a [clone] MS660 .... the exact say you use is this video. My question is regarding running the power head without bar oil in the tank. The Lewis winch obviously doesn't need it, but will running the saw with a dry oil tank hurt the saw? Any intelligent comments would be appreciated......
the oil in a saws oil tank is only for the chain. I would empty it out if using with a winch so it doesn't leak out and get messy. 2 strokes are internally lubricated by the oil in the gas!
I was only pulling 1 log here as there was only 1 log in this spot that I needed. I do pull multiple logs assuming my anchor is secured. I likely wouldn’t have been able to pull multiple logs with my atv as an anchor unless I secure my atv to a tree
can you do more than one log at a time, say you get 3 12' logs out of a tree can pull them level with each other and pull all three at once? ever find the limit of how much itll pull? secondly why not rev the chainsaw up a bit more, make sure its going fast enough that the clutch wont slip cause it can slip at low speed, and just to get the winch moving faster because it seems like a kinda slow bottle neck to the process especially if you need to winch each log one at a time and multiple times to an accessible trail
Hi Andrew, I haven't been able to stall out the chainsaw due to pulling anything heavy yet. I have however found the weight limit of the cable and snapped it before in the winter when I tree was frozen to the ground i was trying to move. I could for sure move multiple trees at once with this as it's got a lot of power. Reason I don't want to rev up the chainsaw is because it has so much power that if the tree snags something it will load up the tension on the cable very quickly and I"d hate to break it
@@sawingwithsandy yeah i seen the video of the cable snapping after making this comment, i see the cable is the weak link not the saw, got the tractor winch now aswell, if you go back to using the lewis alot id love to see some 1/4" or 5/16" cable on it and pulling a few logs at a time as fast as it can manage, the clutch slipping on the chainsaw should be the weak point in the system
That skidding cone is the tool I need that I didn't know existed. I've tried using the bonnet of an old Land Rover (aluminium) with only partial success. One of those would definitely be a time saver, not to mention helping protect roots, streambeds, etc.
It's called a skidding cone and this one I bought is made by the Portable Winch Company. I bought mine from a motorcycle shop of all places in Whitby Ontario.
@@sawingwithsandy cool ..idd like to get one ..how much does it cost ? ..I've seen a metal ski plate for that purpose before but never seen the cone .. I think the ski plate was from Finland or somewhere like that ....cheers from BC
That works much better than I expected. I figured that at would be going back to the log.
Yeah sure does work well. If the log ends up heavier than the machine I’ll have to secure the atv

I do alot of thing's with my 4 wheeler so this kinda blows my mind! Add it to my wishlist!

Yeap. I am doing the same thing. Thanks for the input.
That is a lot of leverage on the frame of your ATV. I would put a 'foot', stiff leg, down to the ground under it to take a lot of the load.
That tow bar accessory for the Lewis winch is a winner. I'll bet it will work great on the back of the tractor. With the weight of that, you'll be able to winch out some good sized logs or several at a time.
It sure has been a great addition. You’re right about the tractor. Going to give that a shot soon

Good to know! Thanks Leon
That really worked well Sandy
Absolutely!
I have front and rear winches on my ATV ..its super handy having a rear winch
I can just imagine. I've often seen the need for a rear mounted one when stuck deep
I use an ATV LOG HAULER to haul all my logs, hauled 12 foot pine up to 30 inch no problem
Another cool tool! Enjoy!
Thanks Chet

Have you ever considered tracks for the four-wheeler?
I’ve seen them before but never tried them out. It would allow me to use the atv in winter which would be nice in addition to my snowmobiles
The new setup looks great
Thanks! Working out well for sure
Have you looked into getting a log trailer for the quad to try and keep the logs out of the mud?
I’ve seen them but haven’t really looked into it too much as I have a small utility trailer infuse for that sometimes. I normally just try to skid logs when there’s snow in the ground to avoid the mud
Do you have to belay the front of the ATV to prevent it from pulling backward?
Sometimes I do but as long as the tree is less than around 500 lbs I find I don’t need to

I think you can fit up to 100cc saw
Ill have to build me one of those mounts for my lewis👍🏻👍🏻

Definitely
That is a smashing idea!
It's a great addition for sure

Would it be possible to use a big steel carabiner and a sling and hook it to a tree? Or is it only made to hook into that hitch setup?
It can hook on anything
Where did you get ( or what is ) that plastic thing
Awesome vid, thanks!!
Cool idea but that is one dddddaaaannngerous place to stand and operate it!!
Thanks for coming along for the video Scott
Hey Brother. I’m a very satisfied subscriber. Question. How bad is dirt on your blade when cutting? Or is it the stores in the soil ? Just curious. Thank You. Craig. Pa.
Glad you tune in Craig. I find the dirt pretty much dulls the blade right away if the chain hits it.
How has the Holzfforma power head held up?
How do you pivot the winch on the receiver extension arm under a load. Been pulling logs sixty to hundred feet from the winch. Been struggling with keeping the cable even on the drum. Got any advice.
Sometimes if it isn’t spoiling evenly illl stop and pull the cable out and correct it before pulling again
Nice
I pulled out a hung up ash with my set up. If you get a chance UA-cam it😁👍
Sure does make like easier eh. Glad you tuned in and all the best
That set up, you could pull an F150 up a tree if you wanted!

Do you set your hand brake so you don’t stress the transmission when you pull ?
Yeah I put it in park and set hand break
Thanks for another good video.

Not if you turn the oiler off, there’s usually an adjustment screw

I can't believe that you're still pulling only one log at a time. That winch setup should be able to pull several logs at a time.

Must not take very much force to pull that log. I would have thought you'd have to tie down the 4 wheeler.
