Pulling the brand new cable from the side of the coil instead of unROLLing the coil means the entire length of it has a full twist about every 2 feet. In the future those twists will turn into kinks, basically ruining the cable. To compound that problem the entire drum was filled with no load. The first time you unspool just part of the cable and pull a heavy load with it, you’re gonna end up with a winch that requires a wrestling match to deal with it. And the cables life will be short. Next new cable, unROLL the new coil ALL THE WAY out across the yard. Before you attach it to the drum, grab the hook end and drag the totally straight cable about 30ft. This will guarantee it is fully relaxed and twist free. Now anchor the winch and load the drum by pulling a vehicle with the emergency brake set to just one click. The cable will live longer and be much easier to deal with.
If in fact the saw WAS a genuine Stihl and not the Chinese Nick off POS saw, They start in two pulls max, one pull with choke in(It pops) second pull and they are running ! Note, I still have all 4 different size Stihl saws from an awesome top handled arborist saw to a beast I can hardly lift anymore and they all start just like I said.
If the saw has not been used for a long time, two pulls are definitely not enough. I have an MS261C (from new), and it's not as easy to start as you say.
