He missed his mark here badly. That's what he should of been pushing. This actually looks a lot better than the usual garbage on the hotel doors.

Chains are the weakest for this purpose and the most vulnerable (they designed to let the door open ajar, through that opening it can be cut), then it's only a matter of bolt vs this. Making portly people drag all their junk up those stairs to arrive breathless and gasping was sneakily sadistic. As for his product, all you need is a double-cylinder deadbolt.
I think the screws for this one are in the inside of the door frame, which would make them harder to push out than a normal lock. Still kinda pointless though.
It's actually a reasonable concept, he's just marketing it all wrong. I'd rather use this than a bolt, I would even use it on my back gate if it was adapted to accept a padlock. Instead of marketing it as a replacement for all locks it should have been advertised as an alternative more tidy option for secondary locks to doors
Now I'm no physicist, so someone can feel free to correct me... but the A frame principle he's talking about is when load is pushed down onto the A from the top, that's why roofs are built on a row of wooden beams that look exactly like A shapes (layman's terms, they are actually called trusses). Workman tables are sometimes built like it too on top of 2x A shaped legs each side so it's super sturdy. The strength comes from applying force at the top of the A, downwards. NOT when your just pushing the A structure from the side. The wooden A frame would just fall over 🤣🤣🤣 🤦♂️

You've mistaken Theo with Toucker! Theo (with the cockney accent) is the crier of "children inheritance" And Theo (,the old chap, with TM cufflinks) is the guy with "office spaces" Theo appeared on the show more recently. This is an old series.
A frames are strong under compression and the A frame on that isnt even pointing in the right direction it has no support in the direction of force infact if it was a real aframe you could push it over and look wouldnt you know it when given a sheer force it essentially bent out the way and the mighty a frame fell over
They said it doesn't work when you leave the house, but neither do all the chains and bolts people have on their door. It's for when you are home to feel more safe. I can see this being helpful for people with disabilities who can't operate small bolts and chains. I think he genuinely had a good product but he sold it terribly. All the dragons criticisms could have been addressed. Maybe he was nervous. What a shame
@@mauharley that's why front doors have mortice locks and not bolts these days 😉. Internal bathroom/bedroom doors would benefit more as they are where you generally put bolts. A much bigger market than adding security to a mortice locked door
I'd be interested to see this explored more with the recent increase in production and research of compliant mechanisms. The gadget is a lot cooler at a cheaper production cost and I am not a physics person but from the looks of it it'd translate over well to a non-machined version.
Also for people with disabilities or dexterity issues. I really think he has a good product but he sold it terribly. There is for sure a market for this
Hypothetically it's not a bad idea, but you could also just put in a dead bolt and ensure the frame is reinforced and you're using long screws and good gear.

he left because he understandably wasn't willing to do things like baking shows and strictly. The man is a seriously businessman, not some media puppet. Respect to him!

I like Richard Farley. He always gives great advice and is polite
He should stick to singing for E.L.O and stop messing around with door locks.
i thought it was nigel from eastenders, years ago
HAHAHAH
Its a dragon thing what terrible thing to do
Making portly people drag all their junk up those stairs to arrive breathless and gasping was sneakily sadistic. As for his product, all you need is a double-cylinder deadbolt.
The strength of his product is also Limited to the strength of the two screws that hold it to the frame. This is no different from any other lock
Solution: just invent tougher screws
And the robber already having a key to the door.
I think the screws for this one are in the inside of the door frame, which would make them harder to push out than a normal lock. Still kinda pointless though.
To be honest, I didn't quite understand how this product works. Shitty explanation and camera angles
Aframe screws
It's actually a reasonable concept, he's just marketing it all wrong.
I'd rather use this than a bolt, I would even use it on my back gate if it was adapted to accept a padlock.
Instead of marketing it as a replacement for all locks it should have been advertised as an alternative more tidy option for secondary locks to doors
I'm surprised none of the dragons and the inventor didn't mention people who travel a lot as a target market.
I 100% agree.
Makes a great alternative lock to replace slide bolt and chain locks.

Now, if he sold this as a bathroom door lock, I'd be a little happier as it's easy/quick to install. But it still lacks an emergency open..
Bruh i feel sorry for the dude, he looks like he tried his best when making this thing.
Like my father invested in a great iron gate and a lock and the burglers destroyed the fence next to it to get in :)
Peter Jones: *three punches* ‘Mate your doors fucked.’
just recently got back into dragons den after a few yrs now bindge watchin all day everyday. forgot how great it was
I like how Richard actually gave him advice
I like how in the end the host said "Well done, anyway" and he just went "okay". He doesn't like condescension, who does?
I have one of these on my bathroom door
Where did you get it from?
I want to buy one
It's supposed to stop burglars entering your house not relatives that want to use your toilet! 😆😆
"This is not a door this is an example of how the mechanism works."
His face is like "Ok. And. It. Didn't. Work."
The wooden A frame would just fall over 🤣🤣🤣 🤦♂️
Exactly what I was thinking. lol
An A is a triangle and a triangle is the strongest shape whichever way you apply pressure to it
@@Jmannyn not from the side it isn't... 🤦♂️
@@Jmannyn A ladder is an A frame. It can hold a lot of weight on the steps but If you push it from the side it will just tip over or close.
@@dkhockey98 no once it's locked out, you could definitely apply pressure onto the side of it and it would be strong
Thank you for keeping these clips coming
I'd like to think that there's an alternate universe out there where Peter Jones is still punching that door 😅
Lmao they said the guy who stole the frames put it on his door so they couldn't get in
then he installed the steplock on the outside of their office and the dragons couldn't leave
Duncan‘s face after Peter punches through the door is meme worthy 😂😂😂
"Well done anyway"
"Ok" LOL

That test door frame (that wasn’t a door frame) was shabby as hell
Just fit a flow signal to your door and then the burglar will know they're not suppose to break in

You've mistaken Theo with Toucker!
Theo (with the cockney accent) is the crier of "children inheritance"
And Theo (,the old chap, with TM cufflinks) is the guy with "office spaces"
Theo appeared on the show more recently. This is an old series.
A frames are strong under compression
and the A frame on that isnt even pointing in the right direction it has no support in the direction of force infact if it was a real aframe you could push it over
and look wouldnt you know it when given a sheer force it essentially bent out the way and the mighty a frame fell over
They said it doesn't work when you leave the house, but neither do all the chains and bolts people have on their door. It's for when you are home to feel more safe. I can see this being helpful for people with disabilities who can't operate small bolts and chains. I think he genuinely had a good product but he sold it terribly. All the dragons criticisms could have been addressed. Maybe he was nervous. What a shame
That prototype wouldn't even keep Jenny campbell out.

Ian: "this is just an example of how the mechanism works"
Peter: 👀 *looks up holding an obvious example of how the mechanism doesn't work*
Should of marketed it as an internal door lock for bathrooms/bedrooms etc. It's never going to be a security device for a front door
Why? His selling point is that it's a more secure lock when someone is trying to kick your door in. It's not required for internal doors.
@@mauharley that's why front doors have mortice locks and not bolts these days 😉. Internal bathroom/bedroom doors would benefit more as they are where you generally put bolts. A much bigger market than adding security to a mortice locked door
Usually bedroom doors don't have a recessed frame to attach this kind of lock to
I can imagine his marketing slang being "the best step-lock you could ever ask for!"
The best part is when he admits you can’t lock it when you go out.
😂
10:05 "Well done anyway."
Savage!! 🤣🤣🤣
There is for sure a market for this
Hypothetically it's not a bad idea, but you could also just put in a dead bolt and ensure the frame is reinforced and you're using long screws and good gear.
wow gotta love Richard and Theo, at least them both offered the man some actionable business advice for free :)
The bolts are only as strong as the two screws
Brings in a test piece supported by only 1 screw

Deboroah with Shrek.
That's also screwed in just like the good old bolts

"It's unbreakable"
"No, not like that"
I actually like this lock and I believe his idea is pretty decent but they misunderstood the purpose of it and even though he said the mock up wasn't built for this, Peter destroyed it unnecessarily
There are better versions of this that have been around for years, just search for "prime-line security door lock".
@@sarkedev you know this was like 15 years ago tho
I think the guy giving the pitch misunderstood the purpose of it. He shouldn't have said "I've built an unbreakable lock system. Not this one, though. This one is breakable." Doesn't really help his point.
This can be defeated by a strip of metal in between the door and the frame lifted up.
The dragons look so much younger here
It's almost like it was recorded in 2007.
Yeah and I never knew Peter was a Kung fu man. That palm strike, definitely southern style.
