- Grab a cuppa as this is a long one!!
Ever thought to yourself, the lighting looks poor on my Bachmann models? I certainly have...
Well look no further as Richard from Garforth let me dive in head first and tear his lovely pair of 37s apart!
We change the speaker setup from a pair of iphone speakers to a iphone/EM1 combination for added bass
Install an aux amplifier to allow use of a Loksound V4s aux 3&4 for tail lamps
Change all of the LEDs for more realistic colours
Seperate the cab lights
And have it all mapped to be easy to use - with the use of my Lokprogrammer.
Please check out Garforth model railway on Facebook/Instagram
Also WWW.AGRModelRailwayStore.co.uk for all your railway needs, as well as findin them on the usual social media platforms.
Happy modelling!
Eric
Thanks found it very useful. Just a couple of notes, for those wanting to yellow the high-intensity only (I know the video is doing something more detailed), to avoid prising off the nose end, a slip of kapton tape can be put down the crack between the board and the nose. Also when I jumpered pin 5 and 6 for the cab lights, I didn't notice that the pins next to them are the motor connections and I allowed them to get loose, perhaps better to solder them.
You have great modelling skills
Great video Eric. Very talented. Wish I could do it.
The sound, before the upgrades, was pretty good but the change of speakers made a huge difference to the second 37 - fantastic sound, best I've heard on an OO scale 37.👍👌😁
Yes indeed! Its not quite as loud as the original but a much better range!
Watched all the way to the end
I was very impressed with the finishing job well done
Fair play for making it all the way through! Haha.
Thanks!
Eric that was a fantastic tutorial! Can’t wait to implement it on my tractors. Thanks very much for sharing.
Thanks steve! Best bit about our hobby is just ‘having a go’!
Think I've found my next lighting upgrade project. As always Eric you make it look easy! Nicely done
Nice one! Its worth the effort! 🙂
I can hardly wait to hear what you’ve done to that locomotive!! Very pretty locomotive and fitting the DCC Sound chip was very interesting. I shall have to chip up some steam locomotives before I return to my club.
Hi Eric, fully agree with you the DRS class 37 has more depth to the sound. I am still DC but found this video very informative and interesting. Love the running shots with light and sound functions by Richard. Stay safe hopefully only a few more weeks of lockdown to go..
Thanks Barry, yes i thought Richard did a great job for his first attempt at a voiceover/vid! Will try to encourage him to do more!
Really enjoyed that project Eric, think I might have a go with one of my 37’s I’ve got to put sound in , thanks for the informative video, will put up a video as soon as it’s done, cheers Darrell
Thanks Darrell, hope you get on well with it!
Great prototypical sounds!! Love it!!
a round of applause to you eric that was so helpful ,ps i also went to harefield infant and junior school many years before you though ...............tony
Thanks Tony! Small world! I went to nursery/infants there 🙂
Thanks Eric-fascinating stuff expertly presented.and well worth the 55 minute watch
Cheers Mike! Glad people enjoy this kind of stuff!
Cool stuff mate , looks so much better . Bachmann will employ you soon
Cheers pal, i doubt they could afford me! 😂
@@UndergroundEric 😂😂
Great work Eric. Very informative video.
Thanks for watching it!
Been reading in various places this was possible and been trying to find a "How to" video for ages, thanks for putting this together. Not sure i'll be brave enough to attempt it myself though! Maybe the Accurascale 37 will be the way forward.
Only one way to learn my friend 😄
Only one way to learn my friend 😄
Hi Eric I have a Bachman 37/4 with bad driveshafts have got some new ones and fitted them thanks to your superb vidio. stupidly i forgot to photograph the PCB for the wiring positions. Any help you can give me would be wonderful. Thank You Regards Alan
I can confirm, Eric, that the DRS locomotive sounds better than the BRA one.
Oh for sure! Even better in person!
Amazing! The lighting is fantastic, I just wish the manufacturers would automatically do this! Can Eric do this upgrade with all loco, 66 and 47 for example? Cheers Lawrence
I dont see why not!
@@UndergroundEric Omg if you could do the 66 first, I would be so grateful! :D :D
@@alexndroogs ive already done a 66 check my other vids!
excellent work..can you do me one please mr ?..
hi could you help would you know where them wires go from the switches reason i ask i upgraded a old 37 to a new pcb which would have switches going to it as the old 37 loco did not have switches i have no cab light or rear red lights
so i was thinking if i could bridge the connections so i get my cab and rear lights back please
@@philkyle8919 hi mate its been sooooo long since i did these that i couldnt tell you im afraid mate, i obvs dont use the switches as my layout is dcc anyway so didnt take much notice of them
Hi Eric,
ESU don't make them speakers.
Depending on how many you want to order the Manufacturer is TangBang
EM1 = T0-2008S
EM2 = T1-1925S
Thanks for the info James, they are sold through ESU though so 🤷🏼♂️ tbh repackaged products are a common thing in this hobby!
how did you get the couplings and the plows on at the same time
The ploughs are attached straight to the chassis if i remember
Fantastic video Eric. Just curious why you didn't add any resistors between the lights and the decoder?
I retained the standard lighting PCBs just changed all the LEDs and seperated the negatives onto individual aux outputs, so there are already resistors on there 🙂
Hi Eric, excellent video/tutorial, I would just like to ask how do you tell which is the positive terminal on the iPhone speaker as I have read that not only should they be wired in series but also in phase. Cheers.
Thanks! For twin iphones i have them one on top of the other the same way round, then you can bend one speakers terminals down onto the other to save on wiring and then a single wire from each side to the decoder.
Polarity then shouldnt matter really
Hi Eric
Would you be able to fit direction lighting in some class 158's please
Regards
Mick
Hi Mick, im far too busy im afraid tbh mate
@@UndergroundEric ok mate, thanks for getting back to me
Great video. Where do you get your Leds from. I have 34 37's and would love to upgrade them, I will be watching this again, well done. Mick
They are t0402 prewired SMDs from ebay that i buy. For this i just removed the wires to mount them direct
@@UndergroundEric Thanks Eric will look them up. You have a great collection of underground stock, you don't see many of these layouts, well done. Mick
I’m absolutely shocked that one has to wreck the front of a locomotive to change the front lights!! I think that it’s slightly older technology!! Am I right?
Annoyingly you cant get the screws out to remove the PCB without removing the front end.
They are designed to come off but annoyingly have glue on from factory which makes it difficult
how did you do the snowploughs?
They are glued onto the chassis mate
@@UndergroundEric ahh right, cheers
