I'd say Clayton's death by hanging is much more disturbing than Ursula's death. As a child I remember being scared by Ursula's skeleton being lit up when she died. But seeing the shadow of Clayton's lifeless body hanging from a vine? That's pretty dark no matter what age you are.
KingAdrock420 I think the way it was showcased was perfect. A very eerie and gruesome death yet subtle and still in taste. The way you never get to see the actual body but the shadow against the tree was very clever, as it gets across the idea very clearly.
whatupguys1 I'm not saying it was out of line for Disney to do, but I think it's the darkest of the lot by far. Sometimes less is more, and I think leaving his body unseen, showing only the shadowy silhouette of him hanging lifeless actually makes the scene MORE disturbing, not less. Don't get me wrong, the scene isn't bad in the least, quite the opposite. Everything UP to the flash of lighting makes for a good "Disney death". But once that flash reveals the profile of his hanging corpse, it takes a HUGE turn for the macabre; especially for Disney.
It's weird. Before this video, I knew Gaston ended up falling to his death. What I didn't know was the skull symbol in his eyes through a paused moment. Thanks, Watchmojo: now it's even more messed up!
I never did until later in life. I was shocked to see his shadow. When I told my sister about the shadow she was shocked as well. Edit: The scene in the video was a bit different the scene I saw. The scene I saw still having Clayton hanged from a vine but you could see his full body and the vine that hung him in the shadow.
Disney: We like to maintain a family friendly image. Also Disney: *Stabs, shoots, hangs, mauls, pushes, tramples, decapitates, and drags their characters into Hell.*
Clayton's death was most definitely the best death of them all. Not the best Disney villain going, but his death was so realistic which always adds to the horror. Something like that can happen in real life. The lack of magic was also brilliant. Not to mention his body being hung from the tree, now that was fucking disturbing.
Clayton was pretty much #1. It's just creepy because even YOU realize what's about to happen before it happens. When the shadow pops up and you see Tarzan's reaction.... shivers man.
Theory: the reason why most of the antagonists die by falling, is probably because the creators didn't want the protagonist to commit the same crimes that the villain did.
Well, it can also be "woman's career". Like The Evil Queen, Zira, and Mother Gothel's deaths are. And sometimes (though rarely), it is gravity that actually could save your life. Like in Scroop's case, in which there is no gravity, leading to Scroop not *falling* but instead *floating* to his death. If there was gravity, he might still be alive by now. All thanks to B.E.N. taking all gravity away and making everything float, he instead *rises* to his death, which he, btw, absolutely deserves.
I love how a lot of the villain's death happen at their own hand. Scar, Frollo, Gaston and Clayton to name a few. The hero spared their life as long as they fucked off. Hell even Tarzan and Quasimodo tried to physically SAVE Clayton and Frollo. All in all that's just ironic. In the end the villains greed and arrogance fucked them over.
Clayton's death was a clean kill, and definitely scary, but he was killed clean by his own recklessness. Not really scary for everyone involved. Ursula's death was more brutal considering she gets impaled. We're talking Vladimir Teppes level brutality! Imagine being a kid and seeing these deaths. Back in the 80's, I saw Ursula's death and wasn't phased, but it was still BRUTAL! To this day I wish movies would replicate that sort of graphic brutality for a villain's death!
This has nothing to do with the video... but does anyone remember that scene in toy story, where the old guy was fixing up woody... *BRUH IT WAS SO SATISFYING*
To be honest, Syndrome's death in _The Incredibles_ was pretty brutal, maybe not on-screen, but the dude got sucked into a jet turbine, scrabbling fruitlessly as he's choked by the cape around his neck, pulling him in more and more, before being shredded to death in the spinning blades, and then on top of that, the jet engine explodes. He did have it coming though.
Edna foreshadowed his death when she denied Bob’s request for a cape by reminding him about other superheroes who perished when their capes caught in said objects
2phone I first saw Tarzan in my teen years and still I thought that he simply fell to his death in the big jungle canyon because he was So Dumb To Have Cut All The Vines. It was later that I realized "Oh whoa he actually hanged to death on the last vine around his neck!"

Clayton's death was especially disturbing because of how realistic it was, no magic at all. Breaking his neck from the fall off the tree? That can very much happen in real life.
Frankly, Ive never understood why so many people get so upset by his death, but that's probably just because I have seen like 2 Disney movies, so I don't know the baseline for the violence.
Clayton definitely wasn't the best Disney villain in comparison to the likes of Frollo and Scar, but his death was the best of them all. That was all kinds of disturbing. That shadow of his body propelling from the tree was graphic for a kids movie, also because his death was so realistically possible. Neck snapping from the rope? That kind of thing can easily happen in real life.
Trotmaster15 but not the most terrifying, which Is why I consider lists like this more as jokes as as serious top 10 lists because if its coming to disney its literally play 10-8 falling to death and 2 and 1 the only ones where Disney took a risky step.
For me, Clayton's death definitely took the cake for me, just the fact that we're able to see his hanging body gives me the chills, children who don't really understand it probably won't even bother to think about it except rejoice for the villain's death, but when you *do* understand *those* things, it's really creepy and scary
Vrixienn Same for me, when I watched the movie for the first time, I didn't think of his death, but now I do. It's not as graphic because it doesn't show his upper body, but still, pretty grusome
Notice that in the scene it didn't show his head. If you think about it, if someone fell from that high up in the trees with vines wrapped around their throat, their HEAD would literally rip off upon getting hanged. That is way worse than just the hanging itself. That's why I like Tarzan's villain death better. Lion King's villain death is second.
Fun Fact: Scar’s death was originally Gaston’s death, while Scar was meant to die laughing as he burned to death. Pretty dark stuff, but that’s what I love about Disney. It can get pretty dark. 😈
Clayton's should be #1 because it is the most realistic. No magic, voodoo, Shakespearean backstabbing with animals, etc., just plain ol' evil bastard getting his just desserts. Also, showing that he's hanged via shadow from lightning strikes is a nice, macabre touch. Plus, the fact that the Disney hero (if you will) tried to save him, yet failed, also makes it all the more scarring. Tarzan was a REALLY great movie.
Allegedly after the scene where Dorothy and Scarecrow meet Tin man for the first time, as the three of them are skipping down the road if you look way, waaay in the background you'll what looks like a small body swing into view.
See I was fortunate. I learned at a young age how to command my dreams. See dreams are of the mind and there is nobody more powerful in one's mind than themselves. I can morph my dreams to suit what I desire now. Nightmares are no different. I merely force them into being something pleasant.
The same used to happen to me with the Horned King’s death scene. I already thought that “The Black Cauldron” was a really scary movie. I would always dream that some monster was lurking around, and that was enough to freak me out. Sometimes, I would dream that the Horned King was after me, and I could barely get any sleep. Dreams about his death we’re the worst. I personally never liked the feeling of losing my flesh, catching on fire severest times, exploding, and then getting sucked into the cauldron.
@@Thijminecraft02 Probably some of the vines soften the fall, preventing it from decapitate him, however as it was around his neck when he finally found ground it was a direct neck snap.
Clayton's death terrifies me, I'm surprised that I forgot that death when I was little because I loved watching Tarzan, including the thing that Tarzan warned him, but he didn't listen
Personally, I find Clayton's death to be the most terrifying. I mean, as Rebecca said, they might as well have shown his hanging body...how the hell did that even get past the censors?
Mikasa Ackerman That's because seeing them get their head loped off or being impaled or crushed is really going over the line. Letting them fall out of sight to die is less... gruesome.
I was always terrified of claytons death for that reason O.o The maleficent dead and alive generally gave me nightmares. Even now her voice haunts me..... *shudder*
Yall sydome got caught in a blade and chopped up,that's horrifying but we didnt see the end result. Clayton got caught by a vine and chocked to death we see him at the end hanging there. That's terrifying
@@quinnycat5109 now that I think of it, Tarzan has a lot of deaths, If there were more people on the ship, then the non-survivors, then there is the baby gorilla, with the baby gorilla, Tarzan's parents, there is also the death of the jaguar, we also have big daddy gorilla (ok, I'm sorry), and Clayton's death of course. I most likely missed some, but there really is a lot of deaths if you think of it.
It is for Disney. Other than that movie, Disney movies were notorious for never depicting blood even when the death would've been bloody no matter what. Example, Kocoum getting shot and Ursula getting impaled.
Disney really enjoys throwing people off cliffs, don't they... Maybe that's why I do all the screwed up things I do in video games. It all makes sense now *gasp*
Other kids movies:the villain gets defeated and goes to jail Disney:DEATH Edit:OMG... SO MANY LIKES I THANK EVERYONE WHO LIKED THIS (No seriously though I’ve never got this many likes on 1 comment before)
So, my dad Phil Young worked on many of the films in this list and actually animated a few of the deaths listed herein. Mainly, Mufasa falling and Clayton getting hung. So fun facts on both of those deaths. I remember seeing some of the animation he was doing, as he would often bring it home to work on. Originally, in Lion King Mufasa was going to fall and I saw a follow up scene which was cut. The cut scene was a side view long shot of Mufasa falling and the wildebeest stampede hitting him and his body rolling to a stop. Which was very powerful, but as they rightfully guessed, WAY too intense. Bad enough he gets killed in the first place. Clayton was even more graphic. The scene plays out as it does in the final release, but instead of the shadow of Clayton flashing in the lightning, you actually see his feet jerk to a stop, and dangle. My dad even added in a final twitch on his foot. Again, the editors decided the shadow would be effective enough. It was amazing the amount of work that goes into any Disney film. I'd see him work on a scene for a month or so, and then on screen, it's only a few seconds.
The Incredibles had a scene where Syndrome's cape is snagged into the plane turbines. He is pulled inside, screaming and madly clawing for anything, ANYTHING to hold on for dear life. The blades chop him to bits, and the plane explodes with him in it.
StryderK What about when Oogie Boogie's skin gets twisted and peeled off, and his insides, completely made out of bugs, fall into burning lava (The Nightmare Before Christmas)?
StryderK Turbo from Wreck-It-Ralph had two personalities, battling each other, while burning away into nothingness in a soda volcano. That type of mental anguish is pretty horrific.
I don't realize for so long that Clayton hanged himself. I always just wondered as a kid: "what happened? The rope tightened and he's dead now?! What?"
Black Cat2300 Clayton death was scary but being eaten alive, dragged to hell to burn eternally, body being torn to shreds and you're body disintegrating...... those seem much more scary to me.
The thing with Facilier is for whatever reason he just seems like a really likable villain to me. When he was LITERALLY M dragged to Hell, I felt just.. empty. It didn’t feel like a happy ending
My theory has always been, if you're a Disney villain, and you don't have any magical powers, you fall to your death. However, Queen Grimhilde from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is an exception to the rule--although she also got crushed by a boulder, and mostly likely devoured by those vultures in the end.
That's because it's one of the very few ways a person can die without directly showing a dead body on screen. It's violence and death without gore, allowing it to be "child-friendly". You'll know they died, but not have to see it as it happens.
The scariest part of Mother Gothel's death (to me) was her reflection in the cracked mirror. It made it look like she had 50 eyes, and the way she pulls her hood over her head is just very unsettling. Ursula's death is scary too. The way she wraps her tentacles around the boat gives off a Kraken vibe.
The death from the villain in Atlantis (forgot his name) scared me the most, honestly. He turns into blue crystal, then gets run right into a whirring propeller, letting out a distorted, agonizing scream as he does so. I'm surprised he didn't show up in this list.
Yes! I was absolutely devasted when he didn't show up in this list since I was so terrified by his death! Came to the comment section to see if someone else was my opinion lol
Gravity is the real hero in a lot of Disney movies Newton has discovered gravity Newton is the real hero in a lot of Disney movies Also, Tiana has destroyed Facilier's talisman. so Tiana is the first and only Disney princess who managed to kill the villain. Also, all this characters have 2 eyes, so Illuminati confirmed x2.
um......Mulan obliterated an entire army. sure, not the villain (that was mushu), but she still managed to pin him down so he wouldnt escape the blast. so Mulan is more brutal.
In my opinion, Dr. Facilier's death was the most terrifying. You can just hear the demons singing and Dr. Facilier is screaming and begging for more time. I found it the most scary.
But what makes it even more terrifying is afterwards when the fog clears you see his face on his own tombstone, still screaming as if he’s still being dragged down the fires of hell itself I guess that was the final nail in the coffin both figuratively and literally
Fascille's death in Princess and the Frog was horrifying. Watching his claw into stone and screaming for his life as his voodoo "friends" drag him off was horrifying
He got dragged in his “friends” from the other side’s underworld. (Let’s just call it voodoo hell.) After you could see Facilier’s horrified face in the grave signifying his death.

but not the most terrifying, which Is why I consider lists like this more as jokes as as serious top 10 lists because if its coming to disney its literally play 10-8 falling to death and 2 and 1 the only ones where Disney took a risky step.
75%?? So 7,5 out of ten deaths? Was someone cut in half before he/she fell?
So pretty much if you're a Disney villain, STAY AWAY FROM HIGH PLACES
And Fire (Scar and Frollo), Things that can stab you (Maleficent and Ursula), Vines (Clayton), Cliffs (Evil Queen), and more.
Giana Williams And friends on the other side (Facilier).

For me, Clayton's death definitely took the cake for me, just the fact that we're able to see his hanging body gives me the chills, children who don't really understand it probably won't even bother to think about it except rejoice for the villain's death, but when you *do* understand *those* things, it's really creepy and scary
Vrixienn ikr because I dont remember being creeped out until I knew what hanging was
Vrixienn Yeah when I was 3 I didn’t understand on that part I thought he died from the masahte Or Lost Him
Vrixienn Same for me, when I watched the movie for the first time, I didn't think of his death, but now I do.
Once my teacher put Tarzan and then she sees the hanging body and immediately clicks out of the movie XD

Fun Fact: Scar’s death was originally Gaston’s death, while Scar was meant to die laughing as he burned to death.
Pretty dark stuff, but that’s what I love about Disney. It can get pretty dark. 😈
Just imagine scar laughing while he was malled to death, dear god.
Bruh he was eaten
That would be a pretty dark but cool scene actually. I mean, imagine Scar laughing among the flames as he dies
That's like something Joker would do
I read that he was supposed to commit suicide after stabbing the Beast, but Disney thought it would be "too graphic".

Clayton’s seems scarier than Ursula’s.
The really sad thing about Clayton is that Tarzan tried to help him,but he was to prideful to stop chopping the vines
I think Clayton should've been #1 man; that one still gets me
Yea its pretty messed up for Disney, probably cuz of the shadow and how the scene was set up
All the deaths in Tarzan were pretty traumatic. I still have a tough time watching the opening song. The poor baby gorilla :(
I laughed at his death
Clayton's should be #1 because it is the most realistic. No magic, voodoo, Shakespearean backstabbing with animals, etc., just plain ol' evil bastard getting his just desserts. Also, showing that he's hanged via shadow from lightning strikes is a nice, macabre touch. Plus, the fact that the Disney hero (if you will) tried to save him, yet failed, also makes it all the more scarring. Tarzan was a REALLY great movie.
Clayton death made me have nightmares because people think that's not so s Ray but when you think about it that is scary.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I NEVER NOTICED CLAYTON'S HANGING SHADOW ON THE TREE STUMP! THAT JUST ADDS A WHOLE NEW LAYER OF FUCKED UP TO THAT SCENE!

people notice the small things when someone mentions them, like the hanging man in wizard of oz

Allegedly after the scene where Dorothy and Scarecrow meet Tin man for the first time, as the three of them are skipping down the road if you look way, waaay in the background you'll what looks like a small body swing into view.

@@kristenswanepoel1449 Lucid dream
The same used to happen to me with the Horned King’s death scene.
I already thought that “The Black Cauldron” was a really scary movie. I would always dream that some monster was lurking around, and that was enough to freak me out. Sometimes, I would dream that the Horned King was after me, and I could barely get any sleep. Dreams about his death we’re the worst. I personally never liked the feeling of losing my flesh, catching on fire severest times, exploding, and then getting sucked into the cauldron.
Meanwhile, Dr. Facilier is literally being dragged into hell..
Clayton’s death is just so disturbing! He was strangled and you saw his shadow, wich made it more terrifying!

Personally, I find Clayton's death to be the most terrifying. I mean, as Rebecca said, they might as well have shown his hanging body...how the hell did that even get past the censors?
Maybe because most of the time, no one really notices the shadow until someone points it out.

Ya know,
The majority of Disney deaths are them falling to their death...
Mikasa Ackerman That's because seeing them get their head loped off or being impaled or crushed is really going over the line. Letting them fall out of sight to die is less... gruesome.
Well Mikasa your world is more terrifying
Venom Quill well it doesn't need to be that gruesome. There are many ways for the person to die than falling.

Zamn, that's disturbing as all halcandra.
dang
That's amazing!
The Incredibles had a scene where Syndrome's cape is snagged into the plane turbines. He is pulled inside, screaming and madly clawing for anything, ANYTHING to hold on for dear life. The blades chop him to bits, and the plane explodes with him in it.
+Golam, In Brackets That belongs in a Pixar movie...Yes, Disney owns Pixar but for Watchmojo, Pixar and Disney movies count as separate entities.
StryderK What about when Oogie Boogie's skin gets twisted and peeled off, and his insides, completely made out of bugs, fall into burning lava (The Nightmare Before Christmas)?
That's not Disney. Nightmare Before Christmas is Tim Burton through and through so of course, does not count!
StryderK Turbo from Wreck-It-Ralph had two personalities, battling each other, while burning away into nothingness in a soda volcano. That type of mental anguish is pretty horrific.
Actually, The Nightmare Before Christmas was licensed by Disney or something like that so technically it is Disney

Clayton (Tarzan)
Doctor Facilier (The Princess And The Frog)
Black Cat2300 Dr. Facilier freaked me out SUPER bad. Maybe more than Clayton.
The Thing Is I'm Now Scared For People Living In Louisiana.
Traci Helton ont be afraid..... Come to lake charles, la. As boring as it is! Im leaving for Nashville TN.
Ursula: Im number one!!!!!
Syndrome: Allow me to introduce myself
Clayton: Wassup
Funny guys but kinda dark and also Syndrome is Pixar not Disney even tho they're the same thing but Disney owns Pixar
Clayton: hold my beer
what the hell is with Disney and and people falling to death?
My theory has always been, if you're a Disney villain, and you don't have any magical powers, you fall to your death. However, Queen Grimhilde from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is an exception to the rule--although she also got crushed by a boulder, and mostly likely devoured by those vultures in the end.
How many Disney villains do we need to change a lightbulb?
Even if we had infinite, they would fall of the ladder and die.
That's because it's one of the very few ways a person can die without directly showing a dead body on screen. It's violence and death without gore, allowing it to be "child-friendly". You'll know they died, but not have to see it as it happens.
Jack Mehoff
It's the least visual death they can conjure up.
I think that if someone fall to death they won't have to show the body to the kids
That Tarzan one was definitely embedded in my mind for a long time. Just the whole spooky atmosphere of Clayton’s shadow 😵
Kinda weird watching hunchback of Notre Dame when a couple of days ago the Notre Dame was caught on fire from arson.

I made a comment in Shrek the 3rd got some sleep song about that.
Ya
We can't be sure it was arson. But did the cause of the fire come out yet?
The scariest part of Mother Gothel's death (to me) was her reflection in the cracked mirror. It made it look like she had 50 eyes, and the way she pulls her hood over her head is just very unsettling. Ursula's death is scary too. The way she wraps her tentacles around the boat gives off a Kraken vibe.
For me it was the fact when she hit the ground it was just freaking dust- showing how long ago she should’ve died
