THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I just happened upon it when searching for "short vintage hairstyles." I was disappointed because all of them had bobs, but I saw your thumbnail and clicked it. I have similar hair to yours right down to the color, and I can't wait to try this!!
Thank you! I let my 9 yr old shave my head in and am loving it, but wanted to see some retro styles and you're so darn approachable and easy to understand! Trying this tonight!
This looks really pretty . When you started doing the brush out , I found it was looking almost early 80's , but you kept brushing , and shaping and working with the curls , and it became a beautiful classic vintage style . That really showed how important the "brush out" is . I think sometimes we can get discouraged too quickly , and think it isn't going to work for us , when really we just have to keep working with it , and brushing and shaping . Pin curls are so great . I love how they can be brushed , and molded in to so many different styles . I am really looking forward to watching you do different styles , while growing out your pixie hair cut . This style looks really great on you too . Thanks for posting this tutorial
That's so adorable! For a second it was looking a bit Sharon Stone-esque and then in the next minute you shaped it into something completely different. I love that you're just experimenting and being playful with your hair as it grows. It almost makes me want a haircut, as my hair would go completely curly if I cut it into a pixie, haha!
Very cute! I actually looked for a tutorial like this to figure out how to set my thick bangs. All the tutorials I find with bangs are about making faux ones so I am going to see if this short hair method helps me to set that area. Thanks!
You're in your forties!! Holy moly! I've subscribed to your channel as I am also growing out a pixie cut. I've got thicker hair than yours, but the length is pretty similar. And just FYI, I am truly crap at hair!!
OMG!!! I'm so glad I found this video!! I did the same thing! I got a pixie to grow my hair out!!!! I 'm more glad that you mentioned the way you're going to trim it. That is a huge help!!!!
Cute! The next time I get a wild hair to chop it all off again I will reference these videos. When you were running your hand through your hair it reminded me of that episode on I Love Lucy where she mussed up her hair trying to impersonate the Italian actresses. Love it!
I can't thank you enough! Thank you. I've been so frustrated growing out my pixie. I'm 44 and certain phases have been quite unattractive, not the same carefree experience as it was at 19.
very cute.I remember when madonna came out with her rain video.her pixi was so cute.I ended up getting it.loved it.growing around the ears was pain.just loved this video.
I grow out a pixie every other year or so, right now I'm about four months out and it's a layered bob, I loved some of my pin curls when it was short so much that my " new rule" is never go to short to pincurl. Also small Velcro rollers is an awesome option they actually catch all the little short hair
I'm growing out my hair too, but I have one side shaved off and I'm keeping it like that.im going to try and do my hair like this soon too, at least... half of my hair, lol! it's gonna look great, I'm sure!
thank you so much for making this video. I've been doing rockabilly hairstyles since I was about 15 and I've always had long hair. I just recently got a pixie cut where I shaved the sides of my head pretty short like what you have but the top is little bit longer. and I really really struggled finding myself I feel comfortable doing a pin up style. but was at a loss for how to do it with short hair so thank you again!
No problem! If you have any advice for doing rockabilly or pinup styles for plus-size people. I'm kind of shaped like a pair if that helps. That's actually what got me into liking pin up style because the women were a little bit curvier.
Thrilled to have found someone that does tutorials with a similar hair thickness and quality to that of my own. I've been a hot roller girl for years (it's the only thing that would keep my hair curled for longer than ten seconds!) but, after trying a few of your looks and following your tips and tricks I'm finally getting the hang of foam rollers and pin curls. My hair thanks you for saving it from abuse! :) P.S. The hair and make-up gave you a whole Roxie Hart/Velma Kelly from Chicago vibe going on!
question, I have thick wavy hair, I want to cut my hair short for the summer heat. and do it 1930's to 1950s short style so I can do vintage curls. how should I go about this and how should I talk to the hair salon.
My grandma quite literally got stuck here. She cut off all her hair in 1959 & then kept it short until her death in 2001. She'd perm, then use bristle rollers, then brush out. It wasn't structured once the 80s came around though, very fluffy. I used her nylon head scarf (to cover rollers) as baby blankets for my dolls.
I love this... I tend to get fustrated when I do a new hair style on myself and end up giving up. but this seems easy to do. this would be my first time doing it. so I'll let you know how it goes. but first I need to buy the pins for it. what kind of mouse should I use and hair spray?
Yaaaas! Thanks for this vid. I've been growing out a pixie (buzzcut, actually) for quite some time now. Do you think you could do a finger wave tutorial?
Hi love your videos! I cut my hair in a pixie and I really want to style it like Audrey Hepburn. That soft wavy look. Can you PLEASE make a video tutorial or maybe give me some tips. I'm desperate. 😱😱😱
Lisa, I'm a new subbie and just learning about vintage hair styling. Can you tell me how to keep this look looking good to wear the next day too? Thanks!!
Everyone is different but when my hair was short, I could never do a second day style. It always lost its shape while I slept. You’d have to redo the curls I think
When I was growing out a pixie, I didn't want to deal with an awkward phase and I didn't yet know how to curl, so I knew straight out I wanted a mop top. It was awkward for maybe a month because it was such a short cut (almost friar looking) and then the mop top shape took effect and it just grew and grew until it was too long and then I could chop it into whatever cut I wanted. #wedontneednostinkingawkwardphase
Love the look! I have to say, I honestly thought you were in your early thirties, so I have a feeling that you'd have to dye your hair grey in order to make yourself look older! ^^
I'm Guy and Dolls the musical and just found out women didn't have short hair in the forties, but this hairstyle saved me from having to buy a wig, thank you!!
+Rachel Beaton Yeah, Guys and Dolls was set in the 30's I believe, but most productions have 1950's styling. Either way, you're absolutely fine with short hair! In the 1940's, mid-length hair was more popular but short hair was also seen on top actresses and models. The popular short hair cuts of the day were called The Shingle and the Baby haircut, both of which can be seen online. :)

She's in her 40s?! Wow!
Great video, I have short hair and was wondering how to achieve a vintage look. Thanks!!!

I love this video
So freaking helpful during quarantine 😂

Those styles were based on the 50's too actually....see the late 50's styles of Elizabeth Taylor and others for examples! 😁
That's really cool . I hadn't thought of that :)
I look forward to seeing how to style all the stages of growing out a pixie cut. It's going to be interesting and informative.
Thank you so much!!! I just got into this vintage style and always had short hair so I didn't know how to style it. This really helped!
You look adorable. I cut my hair short and I can't wait to try this. :)
I found you because I need to look like someone from the 1950's in my school play, and I'm totally subscribing to your channel! this is awesome!
This is a classic video. I want to try pin curls tomorrow. I am growing out my pixie and this is so helpful.

+Lucy's Corsetry I know...it's a fine line between 80's Nagel and 50's short hair. haha
I absolutely LOVE this video! THANK YOU!
I really like how it came out in the end

Thank you SO MUCH, for posting this. I also have a pixie cut, and i love that i can now style my hair this way.
I love how you are showing that short hair can be fun. I am a big fan of short hair. I just subscribed to your channel.
I’m growing out my hair too and this looks super cute I can’t wait to try it!
Absolutely impressive!

I never thought i could do this with my short hair but I am so happy now 😁
You look so gorgeous!!!
gorgeous hairstyle
I love it. Especially with the flowery accent

+Dizzyclockwork I' ve always been afraid of them but I might have to break out the velcro ones myself.
As long as your careful taking them out they are genius! I use the green and yellow ones
Looks very nice

Pin Up Girl clothing has some beautiful clothing especially for plus sizes!
Thank you
I wish I'd had any concept of how to do this when I both had short hair and wore vintage!

Haha wish you had made this video about six months ago when I was growing my hair out. Very cute.

Thank you for this! You're one of the only UA-cam channels to do pin curls for a pixie cut! How long did it take for the wetset to dry?
A couple of hours at the most, I'm sure. It's been a while. Haha
@@LisaFreemontStreet thank you so much for replying!!
What should I do if I don't have setting lotion? Should I spray it with hairspray before I put it In the pin?
How long did you keep the pins in? Did you spray setting spray in your hair?

Can I do it the night before and sleep with it in? Will the results be the same?
Yes that’s what I usually do.
this is very god for someone who's passing for capilar transition
Liz Taylor had a very short haircut at one point.
Beautiful :)
I have wavy hair, my question is what do you recommend a pin curl or curling iron? Reason I ask my hair is in a pixi cut , growing out.
Pin curls work best on wavy hair and are less damaging
+LisaFreemontStreet thank you so much for responding. Going to sharpen my skills so I don't damage my hair so much.
The "oh I just ran my fingers through my hair" Debra Paget I think.
Yes lots of ladies had that one...
Yep that is for me.
I've tried it and it doesn't work on my hair 😧
sweet. lovely.
dovima used to have that. just combed my fingers through it look
Yes she did!
You are beautiful and you remind me of Jean Patchett!
Wow...huge compliment! Thank you.
you are in your 40s?!?! no way
Just saw how old this is. Kindly disregard.
Loretta Lynn's version of Harper Valley P.T.A. is better...
I wish I'd had any concept of how to do this when I both had short hair and wore vintage!
