The idea of sonic using a sword at ridiculous speeds is novel and interesting, but in practice the pacing is poor since sonic can't attack that fast which is the main appeal of sonic. Also, the story is lackluster though the opening cinematic with sonic falling out of the sky was pretty funny. And yes, I have actually beaten this game

I'd always think that the knights (blaze, shadow, knuckles) and blacksmith(tails) are like ancestors of the original characters
So, just to clarify
In the previous storybook Sonic game, Sonic had a few of his friends in that world, except they weren’t actually his friends, yes they were mirror images of his friends, but they were actually the characters from the stories Sonic was transported into, which is why when he sees Tails in THIS game, he says it’s Tails only to immediately go “No wait, you’re the Blacksmith aren’t you?”
Here’s the list of the characters in Sonic and the Secret Rings
Tails = Ali Baba
Eggman = King Sharyar
Knuckles = Sinbad

Just realized something. 2:20 Arin actually uses the block mechanic in a video game.
And the latest mechanic this game has introduced and not really explained: You use soul gauge most efficiently if you wait for the target to fully form on the enemy before you slash, which restores some of the gauge that you use to do the attack. This is a pretty important mechanic, but the game doesn't think to tell you.

I'm not saying that these people are wrong for saying this game is good. People are dumb by saying that these guys are just morons that don't know what a good game despite the fact that they make a living out of playing them.
I think it's just a matter of having some childhood connection to a game, of which gives some people the need to defend it when a couple of guys play it for the first time and don't necessarily play it "correctly" (like taking the time to understand the controls and whatnot) because they're trying to do improvisational comedy.

I am a rare breed of GameGrumps fan that actually enjoys all of the videos.
The good part with youtubers, is that since you're not actually friends with them, but just look at them have fun from way over wherever you are, you have the upside of feeling like you're apart of the group, their fun is shared with you, and you never get the downside of having them judge you, since they don't know you. It's actually a really, really good feeling. I'm glad we can count of the game grumps to have funny content for us everyday.

I could understand if Arin was bashing Sonic Colors or Sonic Rush why you guys would rush to defend it but this game is not good. For the people who said "the counter is on the screen, just to the left", why would he look there if there are enemies coming at him from mostly the center screen while moving relatively fast? Why couldn't the mission title/description say "kill 10 fucks with the Soul Surge" instead of saying "Finish using Soul Surge on the ground"? That mission title is so fucking misleading and you're bitching at Arin for not paying attention to the counter? I don't get why you guys get your panties in a twist when Arin bags on Sonic but any other game he bags on is fine.
Why would one bother to look at the Motion Tracker in Shooters and First-Person titles? Why bother to observe the Sprint meter in Action-Adventure titles? They're part of the game where ignoring them is a matter of life or death, and a quick glance to the left is all one would need to see what they can do.
Sprint meters in action adventure games are absolutely stupid and arbitrary. Motion trackers are only sometimes fun. Having additional meters in fast past game need to be implemented in well, and Sonic and the black Knight just doesn't do that. Get over yourself.

Except ignoring the counter to the left is not a matter of life or death. Ignoring the enemies at the center of your screen, however, can kill you. Especially when Sonic is mostly a fast paced game.
At the pace Arin plays this game it's hardly fast. And if a ten year old is able to spot things like that easily then you really have a lack of awareness.
But Colors and Rush are amazing games.
Yknow he is actually giving this game a pretty fair chance, like he's actually reading the dialogue and exploring features. A sonic game, of all things...

Man, 8 year old me loved this game, but looking back on it it really was just the fucking worst. I got stuck on the King Arthur battle for 3 months, so that's really all you need to know about my skill level

I was thinking the same thing, like I fucking loved this game when I played it at the age of 10 I believe. Looking at it now, as with every Sonic game, it's quite terrible!
Sonic Unleashed was easily my favorite but since I played that around the same age I'm afraid it's also just as bad of a game too haha.
Erazor Djinn in the Secret Rings was worse.

I never played this game before but it doesn't seem THAT bad actually. I bet that if they'll bother to actually play the game and not just say the same thing in the same voice over and over again they'll have alot more fun, and actually tell jokes.
A bit late, I know, but the gameplay itself isn't...bad? It's a Wii game that heavily uses the motion controls, take what you can get.
Other than that, the controls are extremely simple to use. Swing the remote to use the sword, push Z to block, A to jump, B to use the Soul Gauge, and Nunchuck control stick to move. It's extremely simple.
