Very interesting. I always thought, not being from the area, that maybe it was something to do with the soil composition or elevation level. It's nice to know that folks are usually able to return for funerals if they want and to be buried. I thought the shunning was total and that people would have no knowledge of their loved ones.
Thank you for always being respectful when sharing all this stuff. It’s a tricky balance but you do it well! I like learning new things and I can always rely on you two to present the information without bitterness. I wish more podcasts could follow your lead.
You do realize that is because Sam had a good family and childhood free of abuse. Others were not so lucky. Their anger and frustrations are valid and justified.
In most cemeteries there’s a mind of dirt when you first burry the casket but then cemetery crews come out and lever the ground.

Wow, I see headstones for Merril Jessop and then three stones down his first wife Foneta. I don't think she had a headstone until recently, it looks new. Glad to see some flowers left there.
Quite a few headstones for children.
When my husband was a kid, he would do this to his dad’s grave, with his grandma. They would redo the mounds and put rocks around it. His dad is buried in Cleveland Utah.

Could it be the graves are not dug deep because the ground is rocky and hard? I would think in the early days of the cemetery, machinery was not available, and digging a 6 feet deep plot was hard to do. And mounding dirt is now a tradition.
I always thought the mounds were also to divert the water around the grave during flash flooding to keep the headstone and grave from getting washed away and lost.
I am sorry to have learned you have lost 2 of your 4 mothers. Also sorry to hear about your brother and his family. Losing people we love is so hard. I was wondering if your father was able to ever return to his family and church? Was another man placed in charge of your mother and the 3rd wife? I am so privileged to learn from you both and it’s fun to see how you are able grow your channel. Love you both

This is very interesting for me. My daughter studied religions and cults in university. I used to sit with her and read the literature and books. FLDS was highlighted as a CULT!
1. Does LDS and FLDS have the same belief system, i.e. Book of Mormon, etc?
2. Is the FLDS and LDS allowed to associate/friendships/marry non-FLDS/LDS people?

Isaac Spencer Carling is my great grand uncle, been trying to find more history. My great grand aunt Lydia was one of his wives and sounds like her sister wife Sylvia was a midwife. My Grandpa Mack Adams did not see his family much since his mother Verda did not live polygamy. She joined the Lds church and a few of her siblings practiced polygamy still. Vera Johnson Black my 1 cousin twice removed, found out about her and the raid at short creek and sounds like she had a son who was on America's Most Wanted. Anyway would like to know about these mysterious baby and other deaths, very interesting.

Does the FLDS have a temple similar to LDS?
Are you related to, I think his name is Jarred, from diving with a purpose? Or adventures in diving? He searches for missing people that may have driven into bodies of water.
