Beautiful restoration I enjoy watching old tools put back in good working condition. Have a Happy and Blessed New Year I'm looking forward to watching you in 2025
Thanks so much Michael and I agree - seeing an old, forgotten and neglected tool brought back to proper condition is such a reward! Lots more to come in 2025 👍 Take care and Happy New Year 🎊
Hey there bigfootscave! Good to hear from you and yes, the oak and dark walnut helped to make up for the surprisingly poor condition of the blade. Happy New Year 🎊
My old dad spent most of his working life as a house painter. He’d have called those ‘broadknives.’ I think he’d have admired the oak handle and the reinforced blade on the larger one. Nice work. Happy New Year.
Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate the sentiment about your dad! I've never seen the reinforced blade like that before and thought it was the coolest looking putty knife. Happy New Year! 🎊
Nicely done Matt. I also enjoy restoring old putty knives. I have way to many of them but i just can't bring myself to leave them behind when i find them. I'm glad you started putting videos out this year and I've enjoyed watching every one of them. Happy New Year brother 🎉
Thank You! No putty knife left behind! ( esp. the wooden handle ones ). I really enjoy seeing the true character revealed when the paint and rust is scraped away! I'm excited to see what restorations 2025 brings, and the growth/expansion of the garage shop! Thanks again Ivan and Happy New Year 🎊
Hey there OJ! those sanding wheel brushes are great because they are narrow, have different grits and last a little while 👍 Music = relaxing shop 😁 Take care! 🛠
I have a couple of those that need some love also. Great job they look great. I have enjoyed your videos and look forward to the next year of quality stuff. Happy New Year Matt.
Hey there Mr Dale, thanks buddy! Any lost and neglected wooden handle tool is likely to follow me home! Next year promises to be exciting. All the best to you for a great New Year Dale 🎊

I can't believe that you have SLIPPERY ROCK DAD CUP! I knew you were a fellow Pittburgher, but I've had a SRU Dad cup on my desk for almost ten years, since before my daughter graduated in 2015. I'm an alumnus also. Very nice restorations by the way. Many more years of useful service for both putty knives. -Tom
Ha - thought my accent would give it away! Yep, almost an entire Rock family here. My wife and I met on the band field there '90, and my son and youngest daughter went there also. Cool! Thanks for the compliment and stopping by the channel! Happy New Year 🎊
Great job on those putting knives. The larger one you have is an old Red Devil brand. I have a size smaller than that and a size larger than yours. I think they’re really cool. Thanks so much for sharing and happy new year.
Hey there toolscouter! Thanks for the info. So it's an early 1950's P103 red devil scraper....how cool! Appreciate the visit 👍 Take care and Happy New Year 🎊
Great video! If I may make a suggest wear face protection using your wire and buffing wheel, also dust protection scrapping off the old finish on the handles. You don't want that old stuff in your coffee Mug either.
Good job on the restoration. Being a Safety Guy I would suggest safety glasses with that wire wheel. Those things shed wires at high speed and can cause great damage to unprotected eyes. Happy New Year!!
Thanks. And you're absolutely right on the glasses. I've picked enough of the wires out of my shirt and socks . . . Appreciate it 👍 And Happy New Year 🎆

Thanks so much David! The damaged blade was a surprise, thankfully it was still usable( and shiny ) ! Looking forward to seeing your projects this year 👍
Those look great all cleaned up. Another amazing restoration job, and these are probably way better than the plastic junk they sell now. Congratulations on 1000 Subs Matt, Chrissy noticed you were at 995 yesterday and then over 1k today, super happy for you guys.
Thanks BigFamily! Old and restored much better than new, imported plastic for sure! 👍 The channel has really taken off the past couple months and it's exciting to think about what the new year may hold. Thanks so much for your support...happy to be associated with such great folks as yourselves! Take care and Happy New Year 🎊
nice job on the putty knives. I agree that you arrived at a good balance with the blade on the first knife. thin metal reduces your options. as an aside, I have noticed that vintage putty knives have blades with rounded corners. I like this because rounded edges reduce potential for gouging. newer putty knives have sharper, more square corners. your channel is growing, imo, because your projects are within the abilities of many people who don't have access to a lot of expensive tools. at least, that's my case. thanks and happy new year.
Thanks Pat! Good observation on the putty knives. Sharp edges are only asking for trouble 👍 As for the channel growth, you folks made it happen. it's people like you, with your perspective and encouraging comments that are a reminder of what the channel is all about... sparking fond memories by seeing old tools and other items brought back from history's scrap yard to their former 'glory' and instilling confidence in others that they can do this too. Thanks again and Happy New Year 🎊
The metal was a surprise on the one knife. Both turned out great!!
For sure! It reallt looked like just a bunch of goo! Ah well, still shined up and is completely usable, Take care Ash 💪
As always Matt you never disappoint us! Another great restoration.
Thank you!! Appreciate you guys always stopping by. Happy New Year 🎊

Came out well, always nice when there is good wood underneath it all.

Thanks for stopping by Rob. Proper suggestion, I have the eyeglasses nearby just have to be disciplined to put them on 👍🛠

Those look terrific Matt. Nicely done!
Thanks so much Bill! My weakness, wooden handled vintage tools. Gotta catch up your your shop work too 👍
Wood handle looking great whit out paint 👍
Thanks!! I agree. I have a small aversion to painted wood( sometimes metal too ) 😁
Great job! I'm new at restoring tools and love the way you explain things. It's very helpful. Happy new year!
