My great- grandmother always ate a half of a grapefruit for breakfast every morning with toast. I love her and miss her, she is always one of my true joys.
I read the book one summer when staying with my grandparents...I can still hear my grandmother...quit laughing and turn out that light 👀 They went to bed with the chickens 🤣
Actually, many women worked. Ricky made good money. So did Daren from Bewitched. This was the fantasty for many women. To get to stay at home. But the reality was you needed the money. My mother worked. My grandmother worked. I worked. Split shifts, 10 on, two off. Would have loved to have stayed home and did the first few years when my children were young. Then my husband had a 400 dollar a month drop in income. So I needed to go out and work to cover luxurious like food, toilet paper, soap, gas, electric bill, etc. My mother and grandmother wrote housewife on the census, but they still worked outside the home. My dad could cook, clean and even unravel a sock and sharpened two pencils to teach me how to knit. My best friend growing up remembers her Dad braiding her hair before school, as her mom was at work and cooking suppers. We are both Boomers. The men back then really stepped up and helped instead of pretending to be incompetent.
@@dawnelder9046so true. My parents worked as a team. My dad didn’t make much money and my mom cleaned houses so she could try to be home after school. My dad did our house cleaning on Saturdays and liked doing some of the cooking. Their focus was on making sure they provided enough to their children and family.
I loved this episode when she gave him the "treatments"😊😊

Remember the underlying theme of the I Love Lucy - she wanted to get into Ricky's show. Ethel worked in helping Fred as the Landlords of the building.
