Magnifico e commovente. Peccato che adesso abbiamo l'UNIRE che invece di sostenere gli allevatori, li affossa. Il cavallo italiano, dal purosangue a quello da sella non sono più ormai nessun orgoglio.
Exactly. What a horse Ribot was. Secretariat - also a great one. Why compare these magnificent creatures. As a New Zealander and unbiased, Phar Lap, our greatest horse had a heart weighing 13.6 pounds, whereas a normal horse's heart weighs 8.5 pounds. I was utterly astounded to hear that Secretariat's heart was 22 pounds. Eclipse's heart was also around 14 pounds, the size of Phar Lap's heart. For me, neither of these two great horses should be rubbished.
Mr. Hartford, are you talking about times? As Einstein said (SIC): "time is relative". And please, let me correct you: Ribot is not an Italian legend but a world legend.
Buon tutto 🤗
It's obvious you did not check RIBOT's record before your comment's here and pls do not compare times on turf and dirt.RIBOT is a legend and you better do some research before commenting who he beat at the arc and the king george.
Sempre Italiano, sempre ignorato
yea yeah his last race was filled with many horses that were worth something. I already gave credit for the 5 year winning such a race. it was his best race over his career because of the competition. But i still have a problem with 16 races over a 4 yr period. and u compare him to a 2 and 3 yrs old for Sec & MOW? S and M would have eaten him alive at the same age. but i will say 1 more time so you get it: I still think Ribot in Best 5 horses ever.
okay here's a factoid for you: Ribot ran 2:35:6 and 2:34:8 in the ARC, his most famous wins in 1955 and 56 respectively. Exactly 10 seconds slower than Secretariat at same distance on turf.
It's a comparison that doesn't stand up. Ribot didn't let any horse get in front of him. He has never missed a race. Comparing two horses fed and bred in two different eras makes no sense.
Secretariate was good at getting beaten. Needed everything his own way. Ribot was never beaten.I'd have won some races if you'd have given me the drugs Secretariate had.
yeah what you basing that on times???? times don't mean shit in Europe sec an mow never ran on anything but easy flat tracks. try running on the Rowley mile or at ascot. not saying they wernt great but NO horse would eat ribot alive.
yea I did and wasn't impressed with a field of horses that ran slower than 2:34 for 12 furlongs and lost by 6 or 9 lengths to boot. they may have been champs elsewhere but i seriously doubt their quality with respect to speed and endurance.
one more item 5) he didn't seem to have much in the way of competition so who are the other horse racing greats he was challenged by? I mean: who did RIBOT beat that was noteworthy. Example - MOW trounced Sir Barton the first Triple Crown winner in 1920. Secretariat blew away Riva Ridge who won two of the Triple Crown races in 1972.
He beat everything that ran against him, what else do ya want, not only did he beat them, but he absolutely anialeted them, It does not matter, He was the best of his time and generations, and he won over 5f first time out as a 2yold... and became a 1m2f / 1m4f Champion beating the best in the Irish, UK and France had in their combined Stables at that time... A truly Great Horse and a Great Champion...
Now His record isn't in question, nor the opinion of his greatness but there are a few holes in comparison to other Greats: 1) Where are the times for his distances - it isnt very impressive to win 1.5 miles race by 10 lengths when your time is 2:32, so what did he do? 2) he raced over 4 yrs; 3) 16 races in 4 yrs is not a challenging schedule is it? 4) which means 1/2 his career was as an adult 4 and 5 yr old. the greats did it all in 16 months,20 races and retired as 3 yr olds.
Non hai capito niente. Al galoppo i tempi non contano nulla. Quando sei avanti di 6 o 10 lunghezze non ha nessun senso spremere il cavallo per fare un record sul tempo.. Don't speak of things you can't understand....
no times can be located for Ribot. And any dumb cluck knows not to compare turf and dirt. I merely question the performances because there are no times available to give relevance to the performance. What I can tell you for example is that Secretariat ran 2:24 on dirt 12 furlongs and then 2:24 4/5ths on turf. What i want is a time for Ribot on turf for 12 furlongs. Everyone knows Ribot is an Italian legend, fine, i get that. I even agree. But i want to see how he did racing the clock.
It doesn't matter.....Shergar won the 1981English Derby by 10 lengths, his winning time was 2.44.....one of the slowest Derby times ever recorded....and Timeform gave him a rating of 140.....2 lower than Ribot.
