I highly relate to your experience, I fried a model 1 SMS when I was 13 while trying to do some basic mods to it and I've resorted to just using it as a parts machine. Underrated channel, subbed
Thanks, that means a lot to me. Yeah, I made mistakes in this field when I was younger, but I have so much more experience now that I can look at something I broke years ago, try it again and get it going again. :)
Great Video mate! You deserve more subs. I've just spent the last months attempting to fix 3 SMS2's. These are what another repairer couldn't get working. What a nightmare. All chips swapped/replaced, capacitors checked/replaced, even checked the ceramics! (Yes you can get bad ceramics too - I had one previous SMS which has a bad ceramic on the video ram bus). Turned out that all 3 had one of two corroded traces. I didn't find this out until I got the oscilloscope out and checked all the I/Os. A couple of bodge wires and they worked! One tip though, if you go to the trouble of removing ICs, definitely put a socket in. Saves time later, assuming you're keeping it.
Love it. I've trashed working consoles just to get another one working. It seems pointless to others but tough it's your kit, do what you like. Do the 60hz mod, it's a piece of piss and makes all our slow pal systems feel like they can actually be played!
Yeah, I believe we should be able to do whatever we want to the stuff we own. It's funny that you mention the 60Hz mod. That might come sooner than you think.
Awesome again C and holy moly 2 in a month??? For what do we owe the pleasure...i love that sonic tune at the intro. Still got a mega Cd I want u to fix haha
Haha, productivity has gone up a little bit. I would love to have a look at that Mega CD, but I get worried about tinkering with other people's stuff, especially if I don't know what's wrong. You know, I don't think two videos will be enough this month... ;)
I have a mega drive which I tried to pry open the expansion port open with a knife, and I ended up scratching the motherboard, and the mega drive would only show a black screen. :(
Aw, man. That sucks. Those expansion covers can be unnecessarily difficult to open. Trick is to push down and pull at the same time. Sounds like trace damage, which is fixable.
GREAT VIDEO! KEEP GOING!
I intend to keep going! Working five days a week makes that a little bit more difficult though, haha.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I should really get into uploading again.
It sounds like you know more about this stuff than I do!
Hey, that's really cool. Great video mate.
Nice vid man, love the effort as always
Thanks, I appreciate it.

@@JoystickDivision lmao I have no solder experience, im only 13!
I think it's a really valuable skill to have if you're interested in this sort of thing. I love it, but it's up to you what you want to pursue.
@@JoystickDivision I have an upcoming mega drive video, so maybe I can learn to solder after that? Btw I don’t have the correct environment.
By "the other day" don't you mean "the other month"?
Shhhhhhh...
Nice.
